We discovered South Loop Market at 2340 N. California. They carry everything from fresh to frozen food. If there is something that you forgot for the meal that you are making, or when company arrives unexpectedly, this is the place where you can get everything you need. There is also a well stocked fridge where you can select the perfect chilled wine or champagne for a byob restaurant or for sushi at home evening. Visit South Loop Market stores. You will be pleasantly surprised at what you find.

We found one of the best gourmet neighborhood markets in the city. South Loop Market at 2340 N California This is a family owned business with 5 different locations. Each location has a deli with cold cut sandwiches and salads, but this is the only location where they sell hot food and burgers (more on that in another post). They carry everything from pet food to chips and salsa. They offer fresh produce, groceries, organic and vegan food as well. They also have a full liquor store with a good selection of wines, both domestic and imported. You should definitely check out South Loop Market stores.

So we stopped in the other night to grab the acclaimed Windy City Burger club double smash burger. We came in on ad day where the whole building just lost power and kitchen was closing up. The person behind the counter was still welcoming despite the situation. He took our order and closed up shop. The burger was outstanding! Definitely in my top 10 maybe creeping up into my top 5. It was really well seasoned and a great all around burger. My wife ordered the chicken Caesar wrap and she was really pleased with her decision. I'll definitely be back. Please note the kitchen closed at 6:00, so make sure to get here early.

Recently discovered South Loop Market on instagram for their Windy City Burger Social club. My boyfriend and I got the January special of the frisco melt and the chopped cheese. Both sandwiches were divine and the frisco melt also came with fries. My boyfriend said that the chopped cheese should be a staple on their main menu. We got our order to go but I'm definitely excited to try more of their lunch and breakfast sandwiches. The staff is also very friendly!

The cheeseburger is great and so is the chicken Caesar wrap! They also make one of the best chopped cheeses I've ever had!

OK selection of produce and dry goods, but WTF do they not accept SNAP? Classist and there's truly no excuse. You are a grocery store?

As waiter came to the table we received dirty napkins and spoons. When food finally arrived, it was cold so we had to wait a couple more minutes. Just my worst experience for my first time here. My burrito LITERALLY didn't have meat Also! The owner was a table behind us and I bet he was hearing us talk shit about this place and didn't say nothing. He was giving the VIP service to his buddies and the buddies were selling perfumes. He kept spraying cologne and perfume while customers were eating. I was eating at a Macys. HORRIBLE!!!

They rather stand around and say self-checkout is open. People know about self-checkout, clearly guest will rather go through the regular check out. Those males they have over there in the deli have ruined the quality of the hot or cooked items over there. I've heard a customer request the $1 item and they said there wasn't any more they'd have to cook them, THEN turned and said they wouldn't have time. They stand back there moving so slow it's unbelievable. The one guy with the real thick glasses has a real nasty attitude. Every time a woman asks for something he's speaking under his breath about them. I hear because I stand a wait for another guy to come available because I never want to deal with him and he speaks negatively of the customers because they have request. Personally, I decided to just go to other locations or other stores, if I want something from the deli. The store is clean, but it be so crowded.

A line for grocery store fried chicken? Absolute cinema. People have been recommending I get into fried chicken reviews, and I've resisted as I really don't want to get fat, but this was the perfect storm to start a grocery store fried chicken review journey. I got to the front in the line and felt like a fish out of water. I sheepishly asked the employees, Darius R and Damariea J, what the move was as it was my first time getting fried chicken from here. I thought they'd be annoyed, but they were so helpful and welcoming. "Today is actually wing bucket Friday! A whole bucket is normally $17.99 but today it's $9.99. I can give you some of everything so you can try, but the spicy wings are my favorite." Hell yeah. Darius was the MAN. I took my tissi and wing bucket to the UIC campus for consumption. The tissi was a brick and landed at a 6/10, which currently ranks it 71st out of 94 grocery store birds I've tried, but the fried chicken was INSANE. Darius wasn't lying, the spicy wings were next level. The best grocery store chicken I've ever had. Boomin the Publix fried chicken. Shoutout to the Darius' and Damariea's of the world. Good people. As always, I am looking for new fantastic restaurants, and stores to try out, and share with: family, friends, and on Yelp. As you walk in it seems like a common corner store, groceries in the front, meat towards the rear. When I walked to the back I had a pretty good hunch this would be a great one. The fresh smell, it was very clean, and the amazing eye catching signage. You could feel like you just walked into in a sweet little store in Mexico. When they handed me the food I ordered I knew was on the right track. When I took my first bites I smiled, and knew, I needed to share this place. I was intrigued by the Pozole Verde sign out front. I had never had it before, so I placed my order for that and zero regrets. It comes out in a quart container with a plastic wrapped foam tray with: chopped onions, cilantro, radish, shredded cabbage, and mexican oregano. I added mostly everything but went easy on the oregano. The chunks of chicken were tender and not overcooked. The hominy and vegetables were just right as well. They have this to a science and it has to be near perfect. Now to the tacos: As you often see in neighborhood grocery stores the chorizo was hanging in back above the meat counter, so a house made chorizo taco was a given. The Al Pastor was reccomend by the one of the butchers, and I had a steak taco to round it, and myself, out. All I can say is that like the pozole everything was superb. Even the salsas.. I wish I knew of this place when I worked and lived in the area. I would definitely have known everyone there by name. I still smile thinking of it, and next time I'm in that hood, I will be there. I look forward to trying out a few more menu items, and picking up some of the fresh meat. So maybe don't slap Grandma... but you should at least pick her up and take her out to lunch here. Enjoy! #AlfieEats
