Nice Chinese market with tons of seafood options and other Asian essentials. I like checking out different markets just to see what they've got. Plenty of parking around here. There are plenty of Asian grocery stores planted near or in Chinatown and they all sell almost the same items and for most people you choose the store that has the most of what you need. J Freshmart is one of the stores you come to with the freshest seafood that I can buy. You can say they are a bit pricey but they have the seafood you want and not sold out. I usually come here to buy blue crab or Bass. They also have frozen meat and a large selection of alcohol. Parking is limited but free. Highly recommend. read more

VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE We are loyal shoppers at Shop to Park around the corner. We saw this place have their grand opening months ago but we never stopped in. Today as we were heading over to Shop to Park we decided to check it out. They have nice covered parking lot but very limited spaces. Shop to Park's lot is bigger but it is always packed. When you walk in the store you'll see the fresh seafood counter and when I say fresh I mean they have live fish swimming around ready to go. It doesn't get any fresher then that. I was a little turned off by the clams and mussels because there were a lot of flies on them. I couldn't buy these at all. They need a better design because the front door is not keeping the flies out from the shellfish. The prices seemed good. The store was not very packed. Shop to Park was really crowded on the same day. I believe that the Chinatown shoppers are very loyal and it's hard to embrace change when it is a new or unfamiliar. We bought some Dan Dan Noodles here because they were a great price. We tried finding our sauces but it was hard because we do not know the layout of the store like we do around the corner. It was a little frustrating for us. We also couldn't find bean threads either. They did have some nice fatty ground pork for dumplings at a great price. I'll definitely come back for that. The store is smaller then Shop to Park. It seemed very clean inside except for the flies on the shellfish. I hope they figure out how to fix that. It wasn't very crowded which was nice but it was hard for us to find our products that we usually buy. We had to go around the corner to finish our shopping. We had a good first experience and we will come back when we have more time. It is great to have more authentic shopping options in the Chinatown neighborhood. It was hard for us to shop here for the first time because we didn't know the layout of the store. We will have to come back and conquer the aisles one by one. read more

This is THE cleanest & well organized Asian supermarket in Chinatown. It's right by the powerhouse, Park to Shop, where its known to be the best place to get the most variety, best and freshest Asian groceries. So it's quite daring to open up a market right by them but I love the competition! It promotes improvements and a fairer price. They have plenty of dry food, meat and seafood but vegatables and fruits are lacking. I think it has most of what a normal shopper needs, but I have yet to compare the price. This will be my bottom line, but for some, cleanliness may be a higher priority. read more

We needed raw oysters to add to our seafood gumbo so I searched online. Found J Freshmart in Chinatown and there they were, large and fresh. It's a big store so I'm sure they are a go to Chinese grocery. Park right in front too. read more

This was our first real visit here.  And actually we only came here because Mayflower Food, an old favorite located in Chinatown Square on Archer, was found vacated and had a sign pointing to this address.  I'm not sure if Mayflower is now part of this chain or not, but that's neither here nor there.  This grocery store has, uniquely for Chinatown, an indoor parking lot, but it is small and accommodates only maybe 16 cars.  The other reaction I had was that after our last Asian grocery stop at steroid sized 88 Marketplace, this store seemed like a little mom and pop corner grocery store, but that was just a psychological aberration.  It's actually a full sized and well stocked Asian grocery.  It's also located virtually right next door to a formidable and popular competitor, Park to Shop, so I guess they will just duke it out.  We actually shop a lot at Park to Shop, but I just have never bothered to review.  I didn't really check, but I assume the prices must be competitive as the wife bought stuff and didn't complain. The only difference I really noticed was that J Freshmart may have a little larger seafood selection. read more

I'm honestly rooting for this cross between a new place slash hole in the wall. It's got that new car smell cause it just opened. I was going to write a yelp review on it earlier but it hadn't even been listed on yelp yet. It's got that hole in the wall feeling based on their prices. It's also not a slowly growing asian monopoly grocery chain with locations in Chinatown, Uptown and Aurora...looking at you Park to Shop! I bought some tea at Park to Shop, a block away and probably the most popular grocery store in Chinatown with a parking lot and decided to stroll over to J Market and see the same tea for a dollar cheaper. Damn you asian man with a top hat! Damn you and your thimble and shoe. Damn you to bankruptcy/jail. Anyway, J Market has a covered indoor parking lot. You can always park on the street to avoid their parking lot (same with Park to Shop). I go there regularly and it's barely filled. Really sad to see so little foot traffic. This place deserves the crowds you see at Park to Shop. They stock certain items I will keep secret for my own personal gain at a really cheap price. One hint, it's a seasonly chocolate not much people have heard of... It's a smaller place but worth a walk over since you're probably in the area shopping at the competitor. This place is a rip off. They don't offer you the price as listed. Watch out for the dead fish that's covered in fresh red blood which came from another fresh gutted fish to coverup stale-ness or rotten-ness. They mixed the live swimming shrimp with the dead one when weighting. read more

This place has amazing seafood and parking - very important in Chinatown. It's is brand new but very clean and well organized

When you first walk in, it smells like a dirty fish tank. I've shopped at many Asian grocery stores, but this was the first Asian grocery store that I felt the smell was overpowering. There were plastic open containers with live eels slithering around, close to the entrance. I asked two employees where I could find kimchi and nato and they couldn't communicate with me. When I finally found another employee, she wasn't that helpful, just pointed and said nato and walked away even though I still couldn't find it. My rating is based on my experience with employees and the overpowering smell. read more
