I wandered into this tiny little spot not really knowing what to expect, but I'm glad I did. What looked like a simple sandwich shop turned out to be a hidden gem with bold flavors and a surprising variety of choices. My taste buds were definitely not bored. The menu is a lot to take in. There's so much packed into a short list of sandwiches and lunch items that I actually wished they had an online menu to look through ahead of time. It would've made choosing a bit easier, especially since everything looked so tempting. I didn't check if they're open for dinner, and I think they might be closed on one weekday, so it's probably a good idea to call ahead. As for the food, it's genuinely delicious. It is a bit on the pricey side for lunch, but when you're in the mood to treat yourself, it's totally worth it. I'll definitely go back when I have a little extra to spend. If you're planning to visit, try going during off-hours since it can get pretty busy. And if you're short on time, calling in your order is an easy option too. This place really is a great little find, and I'm happy I stumbled across it. If you enjoyed this, give it a thumbs up and if you're curious about places that offer something a little different from the usual dinner spots, check out my other reviews too. Feel free to give those a thumbs up if they help you out.

Daymn. Why are their sandwiches so sexy? I think it's intentional. They give you a literal side peach. So first they lure you in with a salacious Instagram account and then lock you down and romance you with a softer, smarter, conscientious side. They know their ingredients and want to talk to you about them. Make you feel real special. And have you seen their cookbook and grocery collection? Like a love story to ingredients and Chicago chefs. Putting the heat back in the kitchen. Total package.

TL; DR: Sandwich is good, but would love to see more meat on it for the price I came in on a Sunday and ordered a Dante and B Franklin with bacon. Between these two, I liked the B Franklin the best. It was sweet and crunchy, but I think both of these sandwiches should have had a little bit more meat on them since they were over $17. As a side, you get the choice of chips or fruit. The chips were delicious, but the fruit (a peach) was solid as a rock, so you couldn't eat it. I would go back here, but would not be a destination for me

Great sandwich, salt acid fat balance is perfect Staff is so warm and kind, and they have veg sandwiches too. They also have a lot of good and interesting beers from Marz brewing, crossing my fingers they get some of the n/a bevs from Marz too

Stopped into Tempesta for lunch today, and it definitely hit the spot. Right off the bat, the guy working the counter was awesome, super friendly and in a great mood, which was impressive for a Sunday afternoon, especially the day after St. Patrick's Day. The welcoming vibe definitely set the tone for a good quick meal. We ordered to eat in, and there was plenty of seating inside, plus they even offer some beers if you're dining in, which is a nice touch. The sandwiches were on the pricier side, and while they weren't huge, that's understandable for a smaller deli. I went with the Hey Dante, their take on a classic Italian, which came on French bread, while my friend got the Franklin B., a turkey, avocado, and bacon sandwich with great sauces on classic square bread. We split them in half to try both, and both were really solid I think I liked the Hey Dante just a little more but I'm biased to Italian style sandwiches. My only gripe is that the portion sizes were a bit small for the price, so if you're looking for a heavier lunch, you might need to order extra. But for a lighter meal, it's perfect. Overall, great food, great people--definitely a spot I'd come back to!

The SouthSide Johnny was phenomenal!(5/5) Close your eyes when you bite good! The porchetta is flavorful and moist. Sandwich has a nice crunch and the perfect hint of sweet as well. One of the better sandwiches I've had. The sandwich is on the small side and is a bit pricey, however you get what you pay for. And in this case I absolutely did. I also tried the B. Franklin, solid sandwich 4.25/5. Nice staff, again one of the best sandwiches I've had. Will come again!

The food was below mid, for the sandwich you couldn't taste the ingredients because the bread was to over powering

Great sandwich from Tempestra! Thick and loaded with flavor! Comes with either a side of fruit or chips. About 5 tables inside and a couple outdoors as well. Fast service and friendly staff.

    Meatball sub

Visited old post office location for a work week lunch and had the best meatball sub I've ever tasted (plus loved my sandwich last visit), certainly worth a visit

This place has been on my go to list for the longest time and I finally had time to visit their location in West Town. I got the #1 The Dante and their special of the month which was a super juicy burger! My partner and I shared the two sandwiches and agreed that this place is really good! I love myself a good Italian sandwich every now and then, holy cow this place nailed it for me! The bread was a bit hard to bite into, but other than that everything was perfect! I love the meat and the spices that put this sandwich together! The burger was probably the spotlight because it exceeded expectations. The smelled of the burger was so good when I opened it up to take pictures. After I cut it in half, I just wanted to devour the whole entire thing. I can literally see myself eating this burger every day even though I know it's so bad for me. I can't wait to come back to try other sandwiches on the menu!

    Dante today. Awful.

What happened to this place? I've been a frequent customer of Tempesta since they opened. Week one. Shouted their praise from every rooftop and loved seeing them get the accolades they truly deserved. But that was then, the following review reflects now: In 2020 the price of a Dante was $15. In 2023 it was $16.50. Fair price for a delicious, abundantly packed sub. Happy to pay it. Today (Oct. '25), the price is $21.50 for, what I can only describe as, pittance in comparison. The meat ratio is 1/3 of what it used to be, and I'm being generous. Not to mention one, single, paper thin slice, of cheese? Why even bother? Listen, either keep the price reasonable and cut the portions, or raise the price and serve something that's actually worthy of it. The cost to value is nonexistent. This is an embarrassing excuse for a sandwich. What they're doing is genuinely a joke. Added before and after photos for reference.

Tempesta is arguably one of the best sandwich shops in the city. They make a lot of their meats in house and use high quality ingredients so you know you're getting the good stuff. Not only can you get a great sandwich, you can purchase most of their meats to go as well as other small artisanal grocery items. I have tried almost every sandwich they have on the menu but my top two choices would be the #1 The Dante and the #2 Yo! Vincenzo! The Dante is their version of a classic Italian sandwich but a bit on the spicier side. The Yo Vincenzo is a chicken parm and I personally think it's the best chicken parm sandwich in the city. The chicken is perfectly crispy, and they use just the right amount of sauce where it doesn't get soggy. Both of these sandwiches come on their fresh baguette which helps set them apart from other sandwich spots in Chicago just because of how good it is. The B Franklin is also a great option, and if you're starving get the Wagyu Pastrami but be warned it is a very heavy sandwich because of that Wagyu. The last pro tip I'll add in here is order your sandwich ahead of time if you're doing takeout. This is a very popular spot and is always busy during the lunch rush so if you wait to order until you arrive you may need to wait for 10-15 minutes. That should speak to how good this place is because it's in such high demand, so if you're in Chicago make sure you stop in!

The wife and I were starving and wanted a sandwich and try something new. Well, we found Tempesta and it did not disappoint. The portions were a healthy size and the sandwiches were packed with flavors! We will definitely be coming back!

Tempesta mortadella fried up and in a toasted sandwich with corner store pickles, cheese, and mayo. Sublime. 26JUL24

This is probably the most overrated sandwich shop in the city. Very basic. I don't understand all of the hype.

I'm currently on vacation in chicago and was exploring the Chicago French Market when I came across a big sign that said something about pastrami. It was a still a while before Clinton Street Smoked Meats opened, but the guy (I'm sad I never asked his name) was super helpful and just told me that the meat was already done and just to come back in a few minutes. So I did. I ordered a their half pastrami sandwich on rye with the potato salad. Oh my ever loving goodness! This was so good I actually started tearing up at the table. Since I got the first slice, they asked me if I wanted a fatty cut or lean cut of meat (I'm not sure if they ask everyone, so I just added this tidbit of information). I got a fatty cut of meat and added Dijon mustard. This meat was so soft and moist that it really didn't need anything else. It held together so well. The potato salad, I'm sure was made with some addictive substances because, holy cannoli, was this an amazing side to have. It stands up on its own but couple with the sandwich, was mind blowing. In the ingredients list, they add bits of the pastrami into the potato salad which was an amazing touch. I will absolutely need to come here again each time I'm in Chicago. We ordered the steak fajitas that came with beans, tortillas, and a little side of guac. The tortillas are apparently handmade and fresh, but I was a bigger fan of the corn ones instead of the flour ones. Both still very good though! We also got the shrimp skewers, and it paired so well with the free chips and salsa they gave us. I'm not a huge fan of bell peppers, but they made them so flavorful and tasty here that I couldn't stop eating them. The service was great with the servers and busboys since they brought out the chips/salsa right away and made sure our waters and drinks were always full. The only flaw I have for the place was that we waited nearly 40 minutes even though we put our name and phone number down in the front. The host claims she called us but might of dialed the wrong number, so it was a little bit of a bummer to have to come back and check in when we could have been seated earlier. However, one of the managers stopped by our table to ask how our food was and packed up our food for us at the end. The ambiance was very packed and lively in there! There were so many people celebrating birthdays that they would have signs and cake and even sing to you for your special day. It's BYOB, so there was a lot of people making their own drinks. Additionally, I'd make sure you have cash since it's a cash only place. I definitely want to come back again and recommend it to others; however, you better be prepared for delicious food and an exciting environment!!
