It is really fun if you are just watching the races. If you go on a busy night EAT BEFORE YOU GO! The food's not bad but I stood in line for 90 minutes to get some chicken fingers and Gatorade. I thought I was going to pass out. Fortunately I had a friend in line so I could take a break and go sit in the shade. I was waiting for him, but would go back every 15 minutes & he barely moved. I've stood in line before behind 20 people, but it has never taken me 90 minutes to get through. I'm being generous saying 90 minutes. It was a nightmare and ruined our whole night. You can go on the track and it is a great experience. Bathrooms are really accessible and I've never had to wait. read more

In my 62 years of life and someone who grew up in the race circuit, I've NEVER seen such screwed up operation from the moment we drove onto the premises. Monkeys could have organized the parking coming and going better than what we went through. My husband literally stood in line for OVER 1 1/2 hours for 2 hot dogs, 2 waters and soggy fries (which he had to wait for and barely filled the tray they came in). And the concession employees were scrambling trying to calculate large orders on scratch paper, which was pretty basic math since food items are straight forward $3, $5........ After standing in a lengthy line to get in we were told cash and checks only! Who the heck doesn't take plastic?!?! Let me add I'm disabled and was told disabled parking was full and would have cost $2.00, but we had to park in the farthest back lot. WTH!?!? We clearly saw where we could have parked closer but the young girls wouldn't let us. Upon exiting at end of races there was NO ONE patrolling traffic. Owners and management of South Sound Speedway should SERIOUSLY look into these issues, as it was the topic of conversation amongst many hard working, race fans in bleachers and lengthy, long concession lines. On a positive note the flag guy was extremely entertaining and the boat races were AWESOME! BRING Cash!!! My hubby had never been to a demo derby and had a blast. In fact we had so much fun that we will be going back in less than 2 weeks. We ate nacho's and onion rings and they were reasonably priced. Great place to take the kids if you have them. read more

This place is pretty cool. We hit it on the 4th of July. They offered free fireworks show after the final race. Pretty cool. The one thing that does bug me about here is the fact that the track is so small. It's nothing more then a circle with slightly longer portions. I mean, as soon as the drivers hit that gas hard, they had to back off right away, or they would spin out off the track. So, tiny in my opinion, and not even close to the real NASCAR. Fun though to check out once in awhile. We rarely get down to this area, but on the way back up to Seattle from Seaside, OR a friend of ours told us to stop in and join them for the firework. Admittedly, you have to have some interest in cars in order to enjoy this venue. But if, like me, you kinda love cars that go fast, or cars that are special in some way, or silly men trying to go fast in cars banging into each other all over the track, sometimes crashing or igniting, then you will love it here. And I am a dyed in the wool city mouse who is such a reluctant sports fan. I eschew the overuse of fossil fuels and overburdening our environment when we have a choice; I like to plan out my days so that I am WALKING to my destinations as often as possible. I try to eat healthy with some semblance of fruit and vegetables at each meal. I think Saturday night is amateur night and should be avoided whenever possible. I go to the country in order to enjoy peace and quiet. But I met Larry from Rochester in March, which is the first month of racing season, and I have been a car racing fan ever since. Now I make allowances for some of its somewhat objectionable traits because, come on! it's fun . It probably helps considerably that the first time I went to the South Sound Speedway I got to be in the pits with my new man and his pit crew. This is akin to sitting in the luxury suite at the Sonics only not quite as, um...comfy; a thrill is derived from being some sort of insider. Plus, when in the pits with your exclusive wrist band, you have your very own snack bar and (exceptionally clean) bathroom. And no lines. Hate to stand in line. Oh, and everyone is so friendly you want to adopt them all and take them home with you. Anyway, I've been a regular spectator several times during the 2007 racing season, and it never disappointed. Not once. First off, although festival seating, there are always plenty of great places to sit. And what a magnificent setting, nothing but a great expanse of grass and sky against nearby rolling hills with an eventual setting sun. The races are deafeningly loud but so exciting, and there is always some featured race or class that is a novelty. The cars in the Bumblebee class, for instance, must consent to honk their horns and flash their lights every time they pass the flag stand (the start/finish line). Silly, right? One night in April I was thrilled by the Midgets - souped up go-carts wtih wings like the Batmobile that zip like hell around the track (often on just two of their four wheels when cornering) and that make a droning, high-pitched insect noise. And then there were the Big Rigs racing in July. Could anything top this - over a dozen Semi-trucks bombing around the 3/8's mile oval, air horns blasting at the start? Priceless entertainment. In Rochester, this is considered recreation for the whole family so lots of cute, pint-sized fans are in attendance, contributing to the festive atmosphere. Parking is free and plentiful. You can get a micro-brew on draught and a truly delicious sausage dog while watching. They actually have an espresso bar, too, but I dunno, drinking beer just seems more appropriate. Take earplugs, and be sure to dress warmly and have a blanket for when the sun goes down. It can get downright chilly out there on the prairie. WooHoo! read more

Fun place to watch races. Short 3/8 mile track. Plenty of free parking. We went for the Big Rig races. Haven't been for a couple of years. We got to the track an hour before race time. The stands were already pretty crowded but we found seats near each other for our group and our friends who were coming. I will say that the benches are packed in together and you don't have a lot of room to move around. Add to that people that bring bleacher top chairs for their comfort, that are too big for the benches and end up encroaching upon your leg room. Annoying and very rude!! It is seriously almost a claustrophobic experience sitting here. The races are run well and were enjoyable to watch. Restrooms were clean. There was always a long lime for concessions and for beer. It seems that they have one line to purchase beer tickets and then another lime to actually buy your beer. Not sure what the point in that is, but glad I wasn't drinking beer. You can pack in your own cooler here with food and beverages - as long as no alcohol or glass. This helps keep your outing affordable. Ticket prices were $22 for adults. I think 5 and under are free. Fun time watching races. read more

Rusty Wallace Race Experience was a great time, I had a blast. Avid race fan for decades and this was my first time behind the wheel of a race car. The venue was clean and well organized. The staff was great and made it easy to get around. The driver meeting was great, Larry did an awesome job setting down the law and added a lot of humor to the experience. The track is small and has short straight away's but the cars are still awesome. The time behind the wheel has given me a new respect for any level of race car driver. Much more too it then i thought. Paying attention to the track, the spotter, and the flags takes a lot of concentration. Great racing but one small section for non smokers.... if you a smoker best place to come but if you not go to Gray Harbor Speedway in Elma better track better races and no smoking in grand stands. I'd give this place no stars if I could... Guess owner must be a smoker..guess won't be an owner for long herd smoking causes lung cancer or facial / throat cancer seen and taken care of alot personnel that smoked who cut there life short.... smoke away at least you all are keeping me game fully employed... read more

Got a 5 lap experience package for hubby for his Birthday (57) He thinks he's 23. LOL The South Sound Speedway was very easy to find even though we were 200 miles from home. Very important to a woman...the bathroom was easy to find and it was clean. The racing experience was great and exciting although track is quite small. Everything was organized and there were lots of memorabilia to purchase. I bought the video, plaque, insurance, sweatshirt, and 3 hats. So so much fun! Next time I think I'll be the driver! I recommend this to any and everyone no matter the age or sex. Go in June if you can much cooler weather is the best! Have fun we did!! read more
