edit: here is my proposed fix: Help the three employees (at the time of this original post) to start an LLC for management of the property, with oversight by an agreed upon third party. I say this, because I believe that they would be able to better-structure business patterns due to their proximity to the business and personal success in managing the difficult requirements. This would allow you both to succeed to the best effect, in my view. Thoughts? Send them to SouthStreetStorage@matthewhouston.net Draconian, heavy-handed tactics. "Cover Your Ass" contracts and then no notice of a missed payment until 22 days afterward when fees have already been assessed. I'm in a very difficult financial situation and dependent of the help of others, and now I find that my property is being held hostage, without my being able to prevent it in any way. I'm sad to say that this is on or for the industry, which is why I'd stated that I would never use one of these type businesses again. I hope to never be involved in a live-in relationship again. The fact is, after a long 15 year, off-and-on courtship, I had planned to get my llfe together and propose this past January, but unfortunately the relationship ended a month earlier. On December 3, 2008, I left my life and within a night, moved blindly to North Long Beach with little more than a Bible and a blanket. Over the following week I'd stop by to pick up things like clothes, our turtle Fred (he's 9 now), and my Magic Mic so I could karaoke songs like Walk On By or More Than Words with a comforting friend (thanks René) and a few Heineken Lights. With little chance of fitting everything into my Honda, I left a lot of larger items like my bikes, a couch, my patio set, a bookshelf as well as a lot of electronics like PCs, printers, a fax machine, etc... I hate going to that house now, I'm uncomfortable there...memories of simple things like making her breakfast on a Sunday morning...but it had to be done. I know it's been 8 months, and that's too long so last week, I made arrangements to pick up my crap. Still in a small Honda, I needed a plan so I looked at www.UHaul.com. With my zip code, I was able to make reservations to rent a truck at South Street Self Storage (not too far). I received a call in the early evening confirming my truck reservation for the following morning. When picking up the truck, I found the staff at South Street Self Storage to be polite, putting up with me being Ivan, etc...They even suggested that I could call if I was running a little late, and they would wait for me, so I wouldn't be charged for an extra day. That seems really generous to me. I gave them my driver license and a credit card and was out of there within 10 minutes or so and on my way to OC to get my stuff. It all worked out really well...When I returned it, they did the math, calculated the mileage and I was good to go... _____ Notes: 1) Looking back, Mike McManus's "Living Together: Myths, Risks & Answers" seems like it would have been a worthwhile read... 2) Rates: 10' Truck=$19.95 + $0.79/mile, 14' Truck=$29.95 + $0.79/mile, 17' Truck=$29.95 + $0.79/mile...optional $14.95 insurance covers the truck and your goods, $29.95 covers everything, including the poor sucker that you backed in to...$75 deposit and don't forget to fill the tank... 3) If moving a distance of greater than 50 miles, it makes sense to rent the truck "One Way" and drop it off near your destination. It's more cost effective. 4) When renting a truck, I believe it's worth it to spend the extra money and go larger than what you think you may need...it's better than making an extra trip at $0.79/mile read more

Do not rent here - The low star hype is true and I should have listened. You'll have better luck with the Uhaul that's around the corner, or even someone's home garage and pay them. The only compliment I have is for the only lady that's helped me. I'm sorry I forgot her name, but she was always helpful when I had questions. ..other than that Horrible customer service. Even when they're right there in front of you, washing their personal car on the other side of the gate (inches away) nothing. You know when you walk in, you see someone upset and think "oh man they're probably giving the workers a hard time"...no , rent here and you will see why. Why did I not move to another storage you might ask? Well, I had just moved 300 miles (in a short time for a new job) and they had a good promotion going on... but now you know why. We needed a storage unit for a few months as we closed down our business. South Street Storage had a good deal going (50% off the first two months). There were no hidden fees, it was just like the ad said. The unit was clean, reasonably priced and the staff was on top of it. We had forgotten to lock our unit one day, and they called to alert me. I appreciated receiving that call, and will be back if I ever need a storage unit in the future. read more

My dad went to auction here, the manager told him that one of the units had a lot of good stuff, once my dad won the unit, it was nothing more than a lie. The unit was staged, all the boxes were empty, new boxes had no items inside, my dad lost 3,000 dollars on that unit full of boxes. I hope the owner sees this comment, and takes action. These managers are stealing whatever is inside the units to make profit on the side. We are looking into getting a lawyer. read more

The staff onsite provides excellent customer service. I have an issue with a response by the corporate office in resolving an issue. I received a notice to pay my storage unit fee prior to February 2, 2017. I arrived to pay the bill on January 28, 2017 and was told that my lock had been cut off of the unit and was charged an additional auction $60.00 fee. I EMAILED THE CORPORATE OFFICE REQUESTING THE $60.00 FEE BE ELIMINATED AND A FREE REPLACEMENT LOCK . I RECEIVED A RESPONSE THAT THE $60.00 FEE WOULD BE ELIMINATED HOWEVER THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE MY LOCK. THERE RESOLVE IS UNACCEPTABLE. read more

1 star is 1 too many. I rented this unit less than 2 months ago after my relationship ended, so this storage is not filled with junk or a side business, it contains my life. Today I went by to look for something and was shocked, mortified, angry, hurt, dismayed, pissed off and down right scared! There was rat poop all over everything. It looked like there had been a rat party from the time I rented the storage until today. Every box was filled with feces, the items in the box that were on top are completely destroyed with rat pee, it was utterly disgusting. And, I'm not talking small poops from mice, no these are giant turds and thousands of them. When I rented the unit I specifically inquired if they had a pest problem. I was told they maintain strict pest control and have traps in place. There are no traps and from the look of things, this facility couldn't have enough traps to catch all the rats in my storage unit alone! All this said, I would not recommend this facility to anyone. Not even for junk! Here's the best part of all...as I'm driving from the facility there is a dead rotting cat in the back driveway on the storage property. I bet the rats killed the cat and the employees just left the dead cat rotting on the ground as a deterrent to any other cats that think they can handle the rat situation! I'm joking about that part, but totally serious about the dead cat. There is another storage facility directly across the street, and another down the street. I'd recommend them as opposed to South Street Storage, unless you just don't mind rats having a party all over your personal belongings, peeing, chewing, pooping. Please share this with anyone you know even thinking of renting a storage unit here. I'm moving my things out, I will not stay here another month. It's just that bad. My next move is a letter to the corporation. read more

Antonio at this facility was very courteous, helpful gave us a tour and the place looked clean. So far were impressed.

I highly do not recommend this storage place. I experienced rude employees and bad services. My storage unit was filled with rat poop all over my furniture. Even though i paid for the insurance they did not give me any kind of money to pay for all my things that were ruined by the pee, poop and chew marks.
