The producers are all relatively local, many are organic, and all are happy to discuss their means of production with you (which is the main attraction of buying locally, I think). You can often get some decent fish, some excellent pies, some nice sausages (they grill some up to sell on a bun, too, if you skipped breakfast), and several good cheeses. Of course there are also breads and plenty of veg too. Roughly 10 to 12 stalls in all, probably, and they vary a bit from week to week. Edit: 10-May-08. Just back, and this market's better than ever. Had a huge meal with fresh juice, followed by a Colombain strong coffee. Than just enjoyed the vibe. Often pop in when passing. Top tip go on saturday for a hair cut, a meal, stock up on books, dvds, music for learning the language. Or just pop into for a coffee or frozen juice on a stick. And if all this eating and drinking gets too much there is always the suit and corset maker to hide the sins.

Make sure to check out the underground vintage market halfway through the street, because if you're into shopping at all, you'll find tons of second-hand designer clothing and accessories. The food options literally left my jaw dropped, and the same will happen to your Instagram followers. The crux of it is geared towards Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi cuisines and dollar stores (hence the unofficial nickname, Curry Lane), but you can find all sorts of shops on the street, like chocolatiers, donuts, a world-famous cereal bar, Lithuanian food, Ethiopian food, Middle Eastern food, and more. I had a delicious Buckwheat gallette (a kind of crepe) with spinach, French brie & cranberry sauce while enjoying the sunshine. Everything was prepared from scratch, so I had to wait patiently. Other stalls were offering fresh coffee, Ethiopian, Indian, North African and middle eastern foods...plus a gluten-free cake stall. There are burgers and other food items cooked on the sight, so you can eat while you wander, and it's ideal if you're looking for good, honest food without the stress of supermarket shopping. The stallholders are mostly friendly and keen to chat about their produce, and prices are reasonably compared to health food shops and similar. A great thing to support that adds to the traditional feel of the more independent aspects of Oxford shopping and makes the big town seem more like a local farming market.
