There's a market that happens only on Sundays til 4pm, so try to go then, but even when it's not happening, Brick Lane is such an adventure to walk through. It has a serious Brooklyn vibe - thank you, hipsters of the world. If you're at all into vintage clothes, arts, jewelry, maps, antiques, home decor, and bric-a-brac, this is the mecca for it. I've never seen this much vintage merchandise in one location! Make sure to check out the underground vintage market halfway through the street, because if you're into shopping at all, you'll find tons of second-hand designer clothing and accessories. The food options literally left my jaw dropped, and the same will happen to your Instagram followers. The crux of it is geared towards Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi cuisines and dollar stores (hence the unofficial nickname, Curry Lane), but you can find all sorts of shops on the street, like chocolatiers, donuts, a world-famous cereal bar, Lithuanian food, Ethiopian food, Middle Eastern food, and more. There is so much personality and eclectic energy to Brick Lane - I can't recommend it enough that you add it to your itinerary!

Long lines did start forming around 9:45am when the hot foods were ready but moved pretty quickly. With so many tempting options, it's honestly hard to decide what to eat. One thing I really appreciated was that many vendors offered samples, so you could try before you buy. During our visit, we sampled the famous chocolate covered strawberries, paella, and wild mushroom risotto. I also bought the Black Pig Honey Truffle Parm sandwich. The chocolate covered strawberries were exactly what you'd expect, fresh strawberries coated in chocolate. If you enjoy that classic combination, you'll probably love them, but they weren't anything particularly special to me. The paella had great flavor, but the rice was a little undercooked for my taste, so I wasn't a fan of the texture. The wild mushroom risotto was the standout. It was rich, creamy, packed with earthy mushroom flavor, and had an excellent texture. It was easily one of my favorite bites of the day. I also tried the Black Pig Honey Truffle Parm sandwich. The bread was fantastic, crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, and the fennel apple slaw added a refreshing crunch. Unfortunately, the pulled pork was very dry. I think it would have been much better if the pork had been kept warm in its own juices instead of continuing to cook on the griddle. That would have kept it moist and tender. As it was... the pulled pork was dry as hell. :) One thing every vendor had in common was friendly and welcoming customer service. Despite how busy and crowded the market gets, the atmosphere is lively, energetic, and full of people enjoying great food. It's definitely a must-visit for anyone who loves trying a variety of foods in one place.

I'll splash out on a cab from here instead (it's my little £5 luxury every now and again). The farmers market is right next to Blackheath station in the car park. The usual suspects are here. So the fresh fruit and veg, the organic sausages. All the typical stuff. But then there's the bakers and cupcakeries and I think that's where the place comes into its own. They're lovely. The stuff they sell is great, and it's fun to walk around. You wouldn't spend more than an hour here, but if you're in the area, it's a good place to drop into before strolling to Greenwich for Sunday lunch.

However I found the rice too hard, cooked with too little water which really ruin the fluffy stick onigiris I'm used to, It could have just been a bad day for them. Still it was a refreshing alternative to all the other burger street vendors. I would suggest you pop your head in if you are in the Broadway market area and then maybe Netil market next door for a more busier street food scene.

There are stalls selling pies (sweet and savoury), meats of various types, cheeses galore, sausages to die for . . . and much else besides. Being a farmer's market seasonality is the key. It's a pleasant change from the stress of the over-subscribed Borough market - full of sample tasting oiks who just crowd the place without buying anything that isn't ready made for fear that they may challenge their plastc world view by actually cooking something with taste and flavour . . . . If you like good quality food, want to know more about where real good food comes from, how and why it is the way it is and how to cook using real ingredients then go to your local farmer's market. With Bermondsey Farmer's Market you will be spoiled for choice.
