We stayed at a hotel on Pac Hwy and had the wonderful opportunity to walk down to the beach and entertain restaurants and shops along the way. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean everything was, and the friendliness of all the people I encountered. The beach was well kept and the lifeguards very attentive, you can tell a sense of pride by the people who frequent this beach, as it didn't seem the typical tourist destination. On a clear day, you can see Palos Verdes Peninsula in one direction and the Malibu coastline in the other. The surrounding promenade is lively and well-maintained, perfect for a walk, bike ride, or just relaxing by the beach. There are plenty of great restaurants, cafés, and shops nearby, making it easy to turn a simple visit into a full afternoon or evening outing. Parking can be a bit tricky, especially during busy times. There are metered spots available, along with nearby lots and street parking if you're willing to walk a bit. The pier itself is also home to the Roundhouse Aquarium at the end. Dogs are not allowed on the pier.

The little aquarium at the end was small but really cute, and it's free (I LOVE free!!). Nothing over the top, just an easy stop while you're out there. The pier itself has plenty of room to walk or sit and zone out a bit. I spent some time just leaning on the railing, reading a few pages of my book, and taking in the ocean. I even spotted dolphins in the distance, which honestly made my day. Watching surfers paddle out toward the waves...and in the direction of the dolphins... it felt like such a classic California scene. I left feeling lighter than when I arrived for sure!

It is located at the side of soon to be open Fantastic Cafe (previously a Carls Jr) in Redondo Beach and it features Kobe Bryant, Ice Cube, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Shohei Ohtani and his dog Decoy. The left side of the mural depicts Kobe's amazing celebratory victory against the Denver Nuggets in the 2008 playoffs. A neat touch in this depiction is Kobe is wearing a Dodgers jersey with his number 24. The whole mural is tribute to the Dodger's 2024 World Series championship - hence why Kobe is wearing Dodgers blue versus Lakers purple and gold. I love all the details of this mural. The facial features of Kobe, Ice Cube, Mookie, Freddie and Shohei are spot on. The addition of Decoy is a heartwarming touch. I also love the unique twist they did with Kobe's jersey. With a touch of Lakers and Dodgers, this piece of art really screams "We Love LA!" It's awesome to have this new mural in the South Bay!

It was a nice leisurely stroll snd seeing some shops probably closed for the down time, I was a little sad. Hoping it's just temporary because of the lull. I remember when we were kids, during summer we'd go to Redondo Beach on the weekends & have a picnic in the grassy area where now sits a playground. Great memories. I like going to the pier & watch people fish, most catch mackerel. Best time to see more action is around Lenten (Easter) season. Great little visit & a walk down memory lane.
