Seaaca is such a miserable, unhelpful place. Every time I call them to help with a stray dog running through busy streets they say they aren't taking stray animal calls or tell me to call a different number for a different animal control. Then what do they help with? They seem like they genuinely don't care for animals. Every time I go inside, the animals cages are dirty with poor lighting and hard floors to lay on. they say it's required by law for an examination for vet/animal relationship and charge you $35+ vaccines. I called two other vets and it was only $20 for a rabies shot and no examination required or fees to be seen. Vets HELPERS got offended because I questioned the $35 exam fee and told them o didn't want to talk to them and would rather speak to the licensed/Certified veterinarian and even called security and voided the transaction. Thanks to (After Hour Animal Hospital) in Norwalk for a cheaper price by over 50% cheaper and didn't have to wait four hours. No exam fee, faster, and cheaper. read more

Wow... such an inefficient system and process. We came yesterday to adopt a dog. Paperwork was quick but was told we could ONLY come to pick up the pup BETWEEN 4:30pm and 5:00pm. Imagine: a half an hour window to register for picking up. So of course, we came back today to pick up the pup from SEAACA. We arrived at 4pm just to be early and there were a ton of people already here, lining. It's 5:20pm now and we're still waiting. What do you expect ? When you force every adopter to come during a small window of time, there would be a bottle neck and inefficiency. I work for a rescue and have been to many shelters around LA and OC counties. No other shelter forces EVERYONE to come during a small 30min window before :-( read more

i'm highly upset with the seaaca in downey,ca this seaaca in downey is responsible for adopting 3 of my dogs out, they said we never claimed them, after we paid them money and claimed them as ours, we have the proof, we have the paperwork from them! then our other 2 dogs (junior 3 yrs.) (chewy 11 months) they gave them back with kennel cough, and junior was neglected to the point of death!!!! first off, they told us they vaccinated them, they did not! they said they neutered them, they did not!! then i find that they filed juniors two bottom canine teeth down to nothing! they didn't even maintain their personal hygiene, they didn't brush them, they came back to us dirty, ears were dirty, their nails were very long, they both lost a considerable amount of weight. junior was so sick that his kennel cough turned into pneumonia and he died 3-4 days after coming home to us from seaaca!!!! i intend to sue seaaca for everything they charged us for and did not do and for the horrible neglect causing my junior to die!!!! from what i understand they are not supposed to have kennel cough in a place like this. they are supposed to shut down and quarantine all the dogs that have kennel cough and treat them if need be. but none the less, they are supposed to get rid of it. instead they had us sign something stating that we understand that our dogs have been exposed to this kennel cough crap, they made us sign this in order for us to get our dogs out. my chewy is still sick, but because he is so young he is getting better, and only because i gave him some antibiotics myself. unfortunately my junior was already too sick and he died in my arms just this last monday. read more

Hello to all animal lovers, I just want to pass along my experience with SEAACA today. Today we found a stray female blue Pit, beautiful dog. So we called SEACCA and began to explain to the representative about the situation with the blue pit. The representative responded with "since the dog is in your care, it's your problem there's nothing we can do about it". Very unprofessional and disrespectful. We explained to the representative that we were not able to keep the dog because we already have 3 dogs of our own. We again advised the representative that we were not able to keep the dog, and got the same response. We asked if the right thing to do is just let it go and the representative replied with "you do what you have to do". So if anyone supports this place financially with donations or you take your pets there because the prices are affordable just know that your pets will be taken care of..."I think". Definitely expect the staff to be disrespectful to your needs or requests for assistance with an animal that has been abandoned by their supposed owner! The three stars is only to not discourage anyone from adopting an animal from here. The staff is atrocious, and the animals are sick. But you are TRULY rescuing an animal if you get one from here. I personally wish this place would burn to the ground (with no animals in it of course.) I also wish the city council members from each city would come experience what they are subjecting the most vulnerable strays and abused animals to before renewing any contract with SEACCA. VCA in Lawndale hid the criminals that stole Stella for days wasting precious time - whereas these folks stepped up, scanned Stella's chip AND DID THE RIGHT THING - contacted Stella's owner immediately so that a happy homecoming could be possible!! When it comes to euthanizing shelters like SEAACA, it's difficult to walk away without a heavy heart. So who starts bawling as soon as she walks away from a shaking German Shepherd in the same kennel as another dog? Yep, me. She was so beautiful. Looked healthy, but I have a suspicion she couldn't stand the loudness of the dogs around her. It's so loud in the dog kennel area!!! My husband started smiling at me because he knows I'm a big cry baby when it comes to animals. If our children weren't nearby I would have sucker punched him. We have only ever adopted our furbabies, though. Of the ten cats and dogs that the hubbins and I have owned (some of which are now deceased), two of them came from this shelter. A few things to remember when you visit ANY shelter: * The employees may be a bit jaded - please don't hold this against them. * It might be difficult for them to receive donations, so remember that they are working with what they got - and this place takes in SO many stray, lost, and unwanted animals! * If you're considering adopting, please be prepared for an all day affair. Tell your boss you are in therapy. That's right, pets are therapeutic when you know how to take care of them. I know there is someone somewhere thinking that there are no animals worth adopting here, but you're wrong. These animals need you and you probably need them more right back. I adopted two puppies, they are sisters and came from the same litter.. Less than a week after bringing them home I had to rush one of our babies into the ER and she has been there for 5 days with severe pneumonia from a bacterial infection and virus that she got in the shelter. While I am picking up my puppy from the hospital today and she is doing better...her sister had worms in her stool so I have to take her to the vet as well for treatment.. Wow! I came here for the vaccination clinic and got there 30 mins before open. This worker with short bleached streaks in its hair didn't even bother to tell us that they weren't taking us. It just put a sign IN FRONT OF US that the clinic is closed, so I assumed we were the last ones. I was like "oh we're the last ones!" And the worker told me "no, the line ends here. come at 6:30 like everyone else." ??? I apologize for not being aware that they only take 35 animals and that I had to wake up 3 hours early to get in line. It seemed like it didn't want to talk to me. Girl seriously, if you're going to have a stick up your bootyhole 24/7, don't work at a clinic, work at the dmv or something. From this behavior I can already tell that it wouldn't have treated my dog with care, so thank you. I recommend Golden State Humane Society instead--their workers are much much sweeter and will treat your pet nicely. read more

Quick to help and kind dispatchers and officers! I was sitting in my car outside with my windows open and I kept hearing this dog whimpering. I had been sitting for an hour and a half before I decided to walk around. I found a car with its back windows half way open and a husky inside with not food or water! It was 92 degrees outside and it seemed hotter inside! No one was outside and I reached out to business owners but no one came forward. I called 911 but they told me to call SEAACA and to google their number before hanging up on me. Finally found their number and called, the dispatch person was so kind. I gave them my location, info of the car and the dog, she told me an officer would be sent out. Officer Wright was the officer who arrived and she was so nice! She took a look at the car, took a temp of the inside of the car and it was 105 degrees inside the car! She was gentle with the dog and even poured some of her own water for it. Another officer arrived and he went to investigate the businesses to find the owner while Officer Wright stayed with the dog and me. Owner was located and I heard them giving him a good talking to as I was leaving. Poor dog had been in the car for 2 hours! Yes, there are things that could be improved at SEAACA. But they have good people working there (Deena) that are going the best they can under tough circumstances. To be fair, the real problem is they face is a constant stream of the most neglected, uncared for and abused surrendered/abandoned dogs I've ever seen anywhere. Anywhere. They should be able to charge people with cruelty to animals. And those are only the ones that are surrendered. I shudder to think about the suffering of dogs in that area that never get help. 04/01/2021 TERRIBLE SERVICE when calling 562-803-3301 for an animal emergency. Called today because a stray dog w collar on was running towards traffic. Had to wait on a long drawn out, 3 min auto information message about covid and other non emergency related services. No option to bypass for a animal emergency. Then when I selected to wait on hold to talk to someone another 10 min went by. Finally hung up (as I am sure SEACCA expects) given what they are offering nowadays. Awful service. I do not see the value in this government ran service anymore. Hopefully someday government centers will stop using covid as an excuse for terrible service and attention to those in need - including dogs. read more

The drop off process was easy and free. Go in and get a white ticket and then meet at the canopy at the end of the parking lot for drop off. In 2018, I went in person to renew my dog's license and update our new address because we moved out of Lakewood. They told me they don't cover Cerritos area, so that was the year I did not renew with seaaca and licensed my dog with Cerritos instead. 3 years later in 2021, my mom got a notice on her door (where we used to live) with a warning that we have not renewed our dog's license. So for the 3 years we did not renew our license with seaaca (because they literally don't cover Cerritos area), they did not say anything until now? Even though we addressed the license and address change back in 2018? Why is this still a problem 3 years later? And of course, they post this warning on a weekend when they're not even open to pick up phone calls. Yet, the answering service said their officers are out on duty for emergencies only. How is a supposed overdue license renewal an emergency on a weekend 3 years later?? The address/license change was addressed in 2018, it had seemed the person I spoke to in person that day cleared my dog from Lakewood in their system, and it certainly continued to seem that way since no one went after us to renew our license until 3 freaking years later?? Are you kidding me?? So unorganized and incompetent. read more

Absolutely horrible. If I could find a way to sue for emotional damage I would. We found a beautiful puppy on their website. We went to see her in person. We went the day to see her and were told they weren't letting animals out for viewings (during their schedules viewing times) because they were understaffed. Ok fine. We saw her through the gate. She seemed cute and lively. Someone was ahead of us to view her/adopt her. They didn't show so we got her. We had to come down one day (a second trip there) to sign a handful of papers. We couldn't go back and see her because it wasn't viewing hours yet. Fine. We went 3 days later to pick her up. When we got there to pick her up, they said they didn't spay her because she "has a small cold." And sent her home with antibiotics. Ok, no big. It's a shelter, it happens. We bring her home and she's not the typical puppy. Sleeping 24/7, appetite is questionable, not really into playing. We figured it was the cold and adjusting to a new home. Nope. We are on day 7 of having her and have dropped $206 at the emergency vet. She has a SEVERE upper respiratory infection, pink eye, she is extremely dehydrated AND they said she was too young to receive a rabies shot, which SEAACA administered. We got more antibiotics from our vet, as well as a probiotic to help even out some loose stools. We thought it ended there and that we would start to finally See her improve. We were wrong. Tomorrow we will be taking her back to the vet as we now believe she has parvo. She hasn't eaten, is barely drinking (only if I give it through a syringe) and had dropped probably 6 or 7 pounds since we adopted her SEVEN DAYS AGO. If she has parvo, at 3-5 months old, she will need to be put down. She is a "big boned" dog, and she is pure skin and bone right now. She's refusing to eat, vomiting up her medicine, you can see her ribs. How RIDICULOUSLY IRRESPONSIBLE is this shelter to let a dog leave the facility actively SICK. And to LIE about her status. It was NOT a small cold. It is a severe infection. For it to be this bad, our vet said they knew at the time of discharge. They are negligent. So now I have a traumatized 3 year old, I'm in tears 24/7 trying to keep her alive, and if we take her back they will just euthanize her no questions asked. So I'm probably going to pay close to 1k total to have this dog as a part of our family for a few weeks before she passes. I essentially brought her home to die. This place needs to be shut down. I am absolutely sick over this experience. read more

I had a very good experience with Seaaca. My dog had passed away and for a reasonable fee Seaaca was able to take him for me. The women in the front office were all nice and helpful & Lance at the receiving gate was awesome, great customer service. I would recommend taking your pet to Seaaca when it's that time. read more

They do not help anyone to recover lost pets! A stray dog came to me in Downey with only a SEAACA tag. It was after business hours. They would not even take the number on the tag and contact the owner. I had to let the dog wander off as I can not have pets in my apartments. I hope he finds his way home. Honestly the worst place you can come to. To get vaccines on a Saturday, you have to be there by 5AM even though doors open by 9AM. It took us 7 hours just to be seen and get our dog vaccinated. Some of the staff is nice and polite but they need to fire the blond bitch who had a nasty attitude in the Vet department. They charged us again for a vaccine our dog had gotten two weeks ago at a different place because the doctor didn't accept vaccines from different places or where the vaccine was administered by someone who wasn't a doctor. Overall, save your money and time and go somewhere else to get proper care for your pets. read more

Absolutely horrible people and by far the absolute shittiest experience I've ever had with a shelter. I had an appointment set up to pick up a dog for adoption, but my roommate who was headed there in my stead ran into dead stop trafffic on the way. Called them 15 minutes before the appointment telling them that she, who is part of my household, would be late and the woman on the phone said it was fine as long as she called them to let them know when she was there. She called them 20 mins before her arrival that she's almost there then got denied at the door because they "weren't notified beforehand and that whoever told her that over the phone was wrong" after a 2+ hour long drive just to pick her up. When I called to complain they put me through to multiple lines before sending me to voicemail, then had the guts to tell me that I must have called the wrong number and that it was my fault that I didn't ask for the person's name because no one in the office got my call (lying to cover their backs btw). I have the call logs on my phone and saved their number as a contact. I've been prepping to adopt this puppy for almost a week and their response to my being frustrated was "It's too late she's getting adopted out to another family tomorrow morning and there's nothing you can do about it." 1st the animals here are all wonderful and the staffs inexperience and attitude is not there fault. So I do encourage you to check out any animals they have. Lots of variety as far as purebreds/ mixes. If you watch the website I guarantee you'll see something you want come through! We adopted our husky last summer. She's beautiful, smart, and energetic. But I feel they did a terrible job here for the following reasons: 1. They double up the dogs & half of them that are available are not in the public area! She had kennal cough and ticks. Which she probably passed on to all her kennal partners( she was there for a month so she had a few) 2. They barely examine the dogs upon intake. All the county shelters at least know if the dogs are fixed they have no clue. And you won't find out if your pet had surgery until you come to pick them up the next day. 3. It feels like they don't want you to adopt the dog you want. They offered us a pregnant dog they had in the back even though we loved the one we picked? It made no sense. 4. They have one play yard that is pathetic. It's a ting concrete pen in the parking lot with a 4 ft tall fence that our dog could jump without a running start. 5. The veterinary staff is incompetent. They did not know our dog had ticks, I made that fun discovery at home. They were unable to take our dogs temperature? I also don't understand there the time table they give shots on. Kennal cough given on intake. Parvo/distemper/adneo give after 2-3wks. Rabies was given after adoption so the day before she came home. 6. They don't have a vet there on Sunday. We called to see if our dog was in a normal amount of pain post op. We did not want to bring her in, we just wanted to talk to a vet or experienced tech to ask. But ones not there, so dogs coming in aren't examined and have no one there to help them if there's a kennel fight. This shelter is great of your an experienced dog owner. If your not make sure you've got a friend to call if you have questions. Your dog will come home with antibiotics and you'll have to bring them back to be fixed. Every one comes at the same time slot to pick up pets to expect to be there for 2 or more hours. We waited 2.5 hours to pick our dog up after her spay. If your dog gets fixed before you pick them up after you adopt them then they can't have a bath. The water ran dark brown when I gave her a bath so it's almost better to bring them back. read more
