Beware of unauthorized charges and ignored paperwork at Golden State Humane Society (Artesia) I brought my kitten in for a spay procedure, which was quoted at $250. I brought a $100 voucher, bringing my expected total to $150. During intake, I explicitly signed off stating that I DID NOT want the optional flea control and dewormer added to her care. When I came to pick up my kitten, they had performed both treatments anyway without my consent and forced me to pay an extra $63 for them, bringing my bill up to $217. Ignoring a pet owner's signed refusal and tacking on non-emergency add-ons at pickup is incredibly predatory and unprofessional. Title: Terrible service and 6-hour wait - avoid On August 6th, I called at 8:00 AM to ask if I could bring my cat early for her second round of vaccines. Her appointment was on the 13th but I called and asked if i could take him a week earlier because they told me I had a window open meaning they could take him before or after they weren't very specific so that's why i decided and called The person on the phone said YES, come in. I arrived and they made me wait from 8:00 AM until 1:59 PM - almost 6 HOURS - with my cat in a carrier. When it was finally my turn, they checked and told me "No, it has to be exactly on the appointment date." This is the opposite of what they told me on the phone and in their message. When I asked to speak to the manager, one specific person who was calling the people were very rude and mocking she even smiled/laughed at me and said "oh sorry" in a very hypocritical way. I'm so glad I found Golden State Humane as I was searching for low-income animal clinics. My puppy was due for her first round of vaccines so we decided to give this place a shot as they're located very close to home and had reputable reviews on Yelp & Google. Vaccinations are walk-ins only and their hours are currently Tue-Fri 8-5, Sat 8-2, and closed Mon/Sun. It was very easy to register my pet and get in line for vaccinations. This place does get very busy so we had 7 people in front of us and waited about 2 hours before we were seen. The wait was absolutely worth it though as my Daisy got de-worming, the 4 in 1 shot, and a flea topical oil for just $56. The price was only for the vaccine as the de-worming was fortunately free. The staff here at Golden State Humane were also very professional, friendly, and patient. I should note that this is not classified as an emergency pet hospital but rather a low-income animal clinic that offers your standard procedures. They do however offer spay/neuter surgeries. Overall, it was a great bang for our buck and we will be back in 3 weeks for round 2 of vaccines plus a first time check-up. Low key this place felt like an efficient DMV. Got an appointment through the phone to get the kitten spade. 8am on a Tuesday right when they open. I get there at 7:50 and there was a line of people already. Some had appointments, and some didn't. When the doors open, they split up the two groups of people. I hear people in the no-appointment line arguing about who got here first etc. When I got up to the front, I signed some papers and waited 10 mins get called into the room with the vet. 5 mins of talking. Then I left. Instructions are to pick it up between 3-4pm. I get there and there's no wait. They gave me my animal and went over post-care instructions. Quick and easy. $285 to get this done. My vet was trying to charge like $600-800. read more

If I could give no stars I would... I've been here since 8am/8:32am checked in and they called me at 10:40am. I came inside before 10 min later to find out they have a 5 min grace period. I was never told that and stated but the employee that checked me in says she told me about the grace period she did not. I have been coming here for decades for my animals and I don't understand why the attitudes from staff are so rude and especially Zamira (the one that didn't tell me about the 5 min grace period). All while the office manager Kenzie keeps telling me to walk in is optional to stay and I could leave. The manager Kenzi told me the doctor went to lunch but 10 min later she still never went to lunch and now I have to wait until she gets back. You can go to Huntington Pet Vet if you want a low cost veterinary that doesn't treat you like a free clinic. I'm waiting only because I have appt on Tuesday with Huntington Pet Vet but concerned for my pets health and that's why I'm here. They need more compassionate caring staff for the animals and owners. The manager let me know her name isn't Kenzie but Kelly. These two are something else and go out their way to be confrontational as play victim. I was told I'm fired but was never hired and then extradited. I never planned on coming back here anyway because nobody should come to place for help with animals for this kind of treatment. For low cost pet vaccines and spay/neuter services I highly recommend this place. The tech assistant who helped my cat wasn't friendly. My personal conclusion is that it's a job and who doesn't need a job, right? But I would think employees who work with pets of others would be animal lovers themselves. I found that this isn't always the case. The wait is very long and there's no parking in the lot until an employee reports to work and unlock the gates. Thank goodness the service you need, once completed doesn't take long. I was there at 6:00 am for usually there are pet owners who arrive even before 6:00! Called to see if we could squeeze in a neuter for Kumo and luckily they had 1 appointment left for the next day! We took it. Drop off is between 8-830am. When we arrived there were a lot of pups waiting for vaccinations, we got to skip that since we were just dropping Kumo off. The vet did a physical check up on him, they gave him 2 shots and took him away. We got to pick him up by 2pm and he seems to be doing just fine! Just adjusting to the cone, normal. I want to just say that every staff that we've encountered here from the front desk, to the vet assistants, and the vet herself gave exceptional service! I BEG THAT YOU PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU TAKE YOUR FUR BABIES HERE. !!!!!!!! I received a call this morning saying that my dog had some sort of rash, or allergic reaction. So I called. I waited over a month in order for this appointment to take place. She is getting spayed today. (She is currently there). The line stated that I was the next caller it would take about 2 minutes in order for someone to pick up the phone. (I'm at work) I was on hold for over 17 minutes. A girl named April picked up and was giggling and laughing while she was answering the phone. She asked if I could be placed on hold. Told her no, I have a quick question. Than she proceeded to lie and said that there was another call in front of me. How if I was next? I told her that I've been on hold for 17 minutes. She didn't care and put me on hold. I waited another 5. Then I asked what her name was. SHE LIED AND SAID PAM! (She was hesitant to say her name) When I can tell the voice! It was the same voice! I explained to "Pam" that I was on the phone with April, and wanted her last name. She said she couldn't do that. I said why? And she said because she didn't know it, and said one moment. PLACED ME ON HOLD AGAIN! (Another 4-7 minute) She finally picked up again. I asked once again who I was talking too she said Pam. I asked for Pam's last name. She didn't want to give it to me until I finally told her that my dog was there, customer service is horrible, and I wanted her last name. She finally told that it was Aguilar. I told her that at this point I wanted to speak with a supervisor because this was not okay. Alonzo picked up. I told him about the voicemail o received, we cleared it up. And then asked him about this "Pam." No one with that name works there. But APRIL AGUILAR does. This girl lied about her name, terrible customer service, and doesn't take her job seriously. I am not okay with this type of customer service especially when it comes to my money, and my fur babies well being. Not a good look, and it doesn't suit right with me. This spot has received a one star review on my end due to the staffs inefficiency. My cat was scheduled to be neutered at this clinic and there were complications. I signed a document informing me that I would possibly pay additional charges given that my cat may have a retained testicle. He in fact did have a retained testicle and I paid in full, but the staff did not inform me until my arrival which was unexpected and unprofessional. I even called the day prior in the evening to check on my cats status, to which nobody informed me of his situation about his retained testicle or that I would be paying more. Upon my arrival home I did notice my cat to be missing a nipple, which was seemingly ripped off when they were shaving his stomach to perform surgery. This to me indicates the clinics lack of respect to my cat and what was a "rushed" surgery. Please I inform everyone reading this, be aware that this clinic does in fact see many animals a day, and your animal is by no means special to them whatsoever. They just want their money. My family and I did reach out and explain our status, we are currently awaiting a response to further discuss legal action that will be taken on this clinic. read more

I wanted to thank Dee from the Golden State Humane Society she made my day last week. My Teacup Shih-tzu went missing for 6 months. The person who had her new she was chipped but did not call me until she was taken to your clinic. I can't thank Dee enough for checking for a chip on my dog. She stayed on the phone with me for a long time and she informed the person that the dog belongs to me. I was reunited with my 13-month-old puppy after 6 months. It was my first time here and I brought my Pomeranian due to the issue of her having bloody jelly like poop and diarrhea. I actually liked that they were actually concerned with her health, they were really friendly, my Pom loved them, and they literally help my Pom literally overnight after their medication and recommendations. I've been too many vets and at one point recently I was charged 941 for just a check up, one medication, and blood work. That experience felt terrible mainly because my senior dog still passed. That veterinary didn't help and he was also so concerned with the prices. I went from 426 to 941 at the end of my visit. They also didn't let me get my invoice due to the fact they were charging my visit as surgery. This vet was called Bellwood Animal Hospital, a bad experience there and literally the only doctor there only cares about money. Does not care for anything else just money, this vet left a bad taste in my mouth. I ran into so many of these vets but this vet was THE worst. I let a friend know my situation and she told me that there's an actual good vet in Long Beach and she recommended me Golden State. She explained to me the process so I came and did it. Yes it's a long time of waiting and standing especially now that it's hot, it can really suck but I'm glad I stuck through it and I gave this vet a chance because they actually cared. My Pomeranian seemed happy to be with the staff, and they did any exams that actually seemed necessary for her. The doctor sounded concerned for her and she explained what was going to happen and what they can do for her. The bill was inexpensive, we did blood work and they did an exam to see if she had any parasites along with a medication and a note with recommendation. Gladly enough what the doctor explained and recommended us to do literally is working. My Pomeranian is having healthy poops. I would totally recommend this place, you just have to deal with arriving here as early as 6:00am and wait in line until 9:00am. Don't bring your pets for this part since this part you'll only be filling out information and signing. After this they'll ask you to come at a later time, that's when you bring your pet. Make sure to bring an umbrella, bug spray, and water to keep yourself shaded since it's really hot out and to prevent mosquito bites. read more

Took my pet in here for some bloodwork & a urinalysis, the nurse that did the Cystocentesis to get his pee & grabbed the pooped out of his butt with her index finger this is what was told me, I believe her name is Mary; she's an asian woman. She left his anal hole very swollen and he was licking at his penis area alot since he came back from getting everything done, he never licked his genitals as much before. It's like he was licking because it was irritated or hurting him of some sorts..I would never bring any pet here again for any type of Bloodwork or test, the only thing this place had going is very cheap vaccines compared to others. Anything else please go to an actual walk in vet if you need real services other than vaccines! Don't put your pet at risk trying to be cheap like me cause I'm pretty sure they hurt him bad after doing all the bloodwork & everything Cystocentesis is done with a needle and I truly belive she poked my boy wrong. read more

I had read some of the reviews on here & honestly I almost cancelled my appointment but I had it for 3 months so I went ahead & kept it. I was having my fur baby neutered and honestly I thought it was so unnecessary because he didn't exhibit any signs of why they recommend but due to peer pressure I did it. I arrive about 7:30 and there was a long line that was backed up into the Carl's Jr. parking lot but when they opened the gate there was plenty of parking inside. I waited in line & 8 they opened up & everything moved pretty quickly. I was met with a very friendly staff. I asked the questions I had they answered then I left my baby with them. I was told to come back between 2 & 4. I arrived back at 2 again met with very friendly staff got my baby and home we went. I can not even see the incision on him. They did amazing job. My regular vet wanted between 600 & 1000 for this same procedure and the humane society was 175. I mean that's a huge difference for the same thing. But I feel like this place deserves 5 stars since they are an affordable vet care place after all and although the lines are terrible, it's worth the wait! The staff was kind, I had no issue with any staff here, as soon as I went into drop off line, they helped me check in and drop off my little fur baby!
