He is extremely knowledgeable, truly loves animals, and you can tell he genuinely cares about the well-being of every dog he sees. What I also really appreciate is that he never overcharges or recommends unnecessary treatments -- he's honest and knows exactly what he's talking about. Yes, the wait can sometimes be long, but it is absolutely worth it. There's a reason he's so busy -- he's one of the best. I actually moved to Upland and ended up taking my Frenchie, Matthew, to multiple veterinarians and even a veterinary neurologist trying to find answers for an issue he was having. No one was able to help or provide a solution. Finally, I decided to bring Matthew back to Dr. Shargani, and I'm so glad I did. Thanks to him, Matthew is now doing amazing. My stepdad previous wife who passed away from cancer had a dog Name, Abby, who now I call Sister. She's not officially my dog, but it does feel like it. She does sleep with me and follow me around. I definitely give her the most attention because I am a dog lover! I definitely know how to communicate with dogs, Weather it from a wink or a nod, I get all their social cues . As much as I love her the truth is I don't know her history. The Housekeeper had told me a couple times that I needed to go with her to the vet. Telling me that the vet did not like her . I figured the vet didn't like the Housekeeper. That she was the feisty one. When we finally got into the office, Sister did not look stressed out at all. Most dogs get fearful. Not my Sister. I was told to put her on the scale and the nurse told me to hold her. I put her up there and lovingly cuddled her into my tummy. Be good girls, Sister. Next thing you know, the doctor comes in right away. He said I remember this dog. Let me get the muzzle. I realize at that moment I don't know if she needs a muzzle. This is a new situation for the both of us together. He repeated Maybe. I don't need the muzzle. Then I hear the nurse say doctor. Very seriously. You need the muzzle. Shocked, I looked into my sisters eyes and said Sister. Did you bite him she looked at me very seriously and blinker eyes which means. Yes ! Oh no Sister. I couldn't believe it. My sister is a bully dog. After the muzzle. Everything went smoothly. You just never know ! There's a morning session for surgeries. Then after 3 o'clock. Luckily, I was early an hour and saw a man standing there. He let me know that you have to wait in Line . They only take eight patients. So stood there for a while. Just chatting with the community. It was nice. I give this experience. Five stars. Definitely learn some stuff about my Sister. Hopefully I can teach her to behave better within time. read more

I have been bringing my pets here for years I was already feeling sometype of way about this veterinarian. But this previous visit was just horrible. I brought my dog two days ago but since the doctor is always in a rush he didn't do a detailed check up. My dog started to get worse overnight I took her back to the doctor waited outside for two hours,once my dog was seen I started to explain to the doctor what had happened throughout the night and explained the symptoms she was having. So basically he got upset because he had his notes mixed up. And when I was trying to remind him of why I brought her in the first time he started to raise his voice at me yelling that if I was going to let him talk or what! And when he seen his notes he realized he was wrong his demeanor changed. But to late I will never go back here again I dont care if his prices are lower! Not worth it I am not a child for him to talk to me the way he did. It is extremely sad the way this vet clinic has gone downhill I rather pay more but be treated with respect! Wow! My kitten was very sick, vomiting with no energy. Vet felt his stonach and knew what was wrong. Gave him a shot of antibiotics, more antibiotics to take home and some special wet food. Said to come back Monday if he was still vomiting. By Monday my kitten was back to his normal self, running around. We got there at 7am on a Saturday and were 3rd in line, out by 9am. I use to love this place! I was going here for years for my pets care. I moved to OC a few years now and since then it's been awful to bring my pets here. I've waited in line before with 3 pets since they don't do appointments, just to be told they did not have the vaccines my cats needed and that I would need to come back a different day. This was a huge inconvenience as I'm driving from Fullerton and already having to wait outside for a while for my pets not to be vaccinated. I asked if I could call ahead to make sure the vaccines are made available to avoid driving back and this happening again and they said yes of course. Well, I've tried calling this facility numerous times, have left more than one voicemail and have yet to receive a return call. I also no longer receive post reminders of vaccines needed as I was getting those from them before in the past. read more

The veterinarian was very gentle with my dog. Prices are fair. I will continue to take my dogs there because Dr. Shargani knows what he is doing and doesn't waste your time or money on unnecessary tests. My dogs deserve quality care. Staffing is an issue. Dr. Shargani needs help in the form of an additional veterinarian, clerical, and an assistant. I have seen him fill in for various positions, billing, seeing the animals, etc. Customers stand in line for two hours or more before the clinic opens. This is a testament to the quality of the care. The line is unfortunately cut off shortly after the clinic opens because there are too many people. The clinic would easily service twice as many patients if there were an additional veterinarian and clerical support. I took my dog on a Saturday once at 7:40 A.M.; they don't open until 8 A.M.. The line had already been cut off at 7:30 A.M. Best to get there early and bring a portable chair. read more

Every time my mini Schnauzer goes to emergency on the weekends for vomiting and diarrhea with blood they never give me a diagnosis and they do tons of tests and I end up paying from $3,000 to $5,000. Then I take her to Thomas Veterinary and the doctor only touch her and he can tell she has an inflammation on her intestine, he put her on medicine and an antibiotic shot and in 2 days my fur baby is great and I only spent less than $100.00. I always give him copies of the emergency report and he laughs because he knows they take advantage, even though they can resolve the problem they always overcharge. I referred 5 people already to Thomas Vet and they are very happy with the treatment DR gives their pets. I've been a customer for a very long time and after today I won't be coming back here. They have a horrible way of checking their customers in You basically have to stand in line outside and wait to be checked in. Normally the receptionist will tell the last customer in line that the line is closed and The receptionist Robin was very good at it but this new receptionist says "she gets busy" and doesn't do it. Today I got there and stood in line for 25 minutes to later find out they stopped taking customers. This office is so blessed because their office manager Robin is amazing. She is the sweetest human ever. I came in with my 3 children and our dogs. My dog needed an allergy shot. We were lucky that there wasn't a long line outside but it was still cold. My kids begged to sit inside and she allowed us too. I feel like this place is hit or miss. You like him or hate him. Is he PACKED AND BUSY, YES! No doubt, prepare to come here & wait 1/2 hour to 45 minutes to be seen or longer for your pets. No appts just wait. Located in Downey on Downey Ave, limited parking. Park on street. Wait on the side wall to prevent dehydration and exhaustion. I came Friday I was #4 in line and waited 45 minutes. I brought my golden retriever for puppy vacc's & was easy breezy. There's 2 rooms, so due to covid only 2 guest with animals go in at a time. He is very busy, he cares for animals as I can tell. Now, may not have the best bedside manner BUT be prepared knowing that. He is very direct with you- so try not to be offended. Cost- affordable by far from where we originally went for. Vaccinations cheapest around. Robin and the young guy & girl are super friendly. Overall I'm satisfied. read more

VCA had convinced me my dog was on her deathbed and the only solution after spending thousands and getting into debt for our dog, they told us we'd have to euthanize her. It's been 5 months now and our old girl is still kicking thanks to Dr. Shargani & Ms. Robin. Both very knowledgeable in pets, very straight forward, incredibly generous in the sense that this vets prices are the ONLY reasonable prices anywhere near LA County. I only wish clients would be a little kinder to the establishment & their hard workers. The hours are posted on Google, & Yelp and I'll clarify in my review as well: Mon-Fri: 9-11:30am,& 3-4pm Sat: 8am-12pm I'd suggest getting here early--right when they open otherwise you might show up to the line already cut off. Keep in mind they handle 50+ clients a day and are a very small clinic with limited space & staff. Be on time, be courteous and listen to the doctor when he tells you to do something different with your pet. He saved ours. He'll care for yours. Be patient. Tired of the entitled folk bad mouthing the clinic while I stand in line. Other places make you wait 7 hours, this one has you in in under an hour. Deal with it. Truly, a hidden gem. I used to take my senior dog here until he passed away and am now taking my remaining dog here until its her time to go. What I love most about this place aside from its affordable prices, is the fact that they do not take advantage of you or your emotions. I have been to other vets thinking I could find better elsewhere, and I regret ever bothering to look in the first place; (ex: Economico charged me $3 for my dog defecating on their table when she was scared LOL?? & they didnt even clean her butt right, they left so much poop smudges on her fur) Other vets have charged me an arm and a leg for unnecessary medicine/procedures or over-exaggerated the ailment/health condition as if she was near death if I didn't cough up the money to fix it. I feel like people who say that Dr. Shargani is "disrespectful" or has a "rude attitude" are a bit sensitive to other mannerisms and don't take into consideration that different cultures and the way people are raised are not always going to live up to what we expect or prefer. That doesn't make them horrible people; some are just more blunt and can come off as belittling or dismissive. I (unintentionally, but respectfully) butted heads with him on his diagnosis once because I too want the best for my pet, and I just wasn't getting what he was explaining. He's said things like "I will not explain to you any further." or "You are done, give him this medicine and goodbye! Come back if further problems" and I can't help but giggle because I know what he means to say. At the end of the day, it is up to us to trust his treatment plan and monitor our pets' reaction to it, or simply find somewhere else that better suits our needs because sadly, no vet is a miracle worker. I have grown to love the staff. I adore the fact that the vet is not so quick to pump our furbabies with x amount of medicine that can damage their kidneys, stress the heart, etc. Overall, I love this place. I truly believe with all the years of hard work, studying, and practice, Dr. Shargani is a knowledgable man. And I know he loves/cares for animals!! The vet has horroble bedside manners and diagnosis your pet in a few seconds without letting you ask questions. The one time I went by myself to get one of my dogs nails trimmed was not the best experience. The place was empty so I got placed in a room quickly. Now when I first interacted with the vet his tone and demeanor were not welcoming. He saw my dog and roght away in a critical tone was asking why i have a shock collar on my dog (I DONT). I calmly responded "that's a tracker in case he runs out..." but then cuts me off and asks me to hold my dog while he trims hmy dog's nails. When he finished, he said "okay done, bye" and practically ran out of the room. Usually vets see you out, but I just thought whatever, paid and was on my way. The major issue was when my mom and I took my other dog. She had a mass on her belly that we really wanted to get removed since it had started bursting and bleeding and had no idea if it could be cancerous. This dog hasnt been fixed yet since she had a litter about a year ago, so we were going to do that this year. We brought her in mainly for the mass and were also going to see how much it would cost to fix her here, and it was the same story, rude tone and demeanor, and only told my mom and I (after only glancing at my dog's belly for 2 seconds) it was some kind of mass and that she was lucky that it wasnt inside our dogs body and that this was all because we havent fixed her. Before we can resond he then explains (in a very condescending tone) that he wont remove the mass unless we let him fix our dog, and if we dont let him, then we can find someone else........ And that's exactly what we did! Like sorry, you just don't talk to clients like that, he didnt even ask if we were interested in fixing our dog, just almost scolding us and telling us its our fault she has this mass. No one likes to be challenged and guilty like that. We got a second opinion elsewhere and they calmly explained to us that yes it is a mass and no this doesn't happen because you didn't fix your dog, and then told us in great detail what we can do to remove it and if we wanted to also run more tests. So overall, this place doesn't strike me as trustworthy and they will no longer have our business. We dont like the fact that he was rude, and lied to us to just push us to have him fix our dog. TLDR: This vet has horrible bedside manners, seems to be arrogant, and lied to us just so he could push us to fix our dog. read more

I really wanted to give Dr. Shargani the benefit of the doubt. He is blunt by default, you can't ask him to change that. I prefer bluntness over surgarcoating. Two years ago, my maturing, athletic, and agile 85-90# pit bull boxer started limping. I looked into it on my own and I knew it was most likely something in relation to his knee or hip. I took him to Dr. Shargani for X-rays, and he let me restrain my dog for the procedure. Was it because of his size or his breed? I'll never know. He said there was a torn ACL. Ok, I can live with that diagnosis. He wanted to perform a surgery meant for small to medium breed dogs. I just had this nagging feeling that this wasn't right. All my research showed otherwise. A different procedure is recommended for large breed dogs. He kept reassuring me that the small dog surgery would be okay and my dog had a good prognosis. I went through with the surgery, and I had my regrets. It was an abnormally painful recovery, but I was brushed off and told that it was normal and okay. A few weeks later my dog was limping on his other knee and based on the X-rays Dr. Shargani and I performed, Dr. Shargani said he was okay, that his ACL was intact. My research showed that when one ACL goes, most of the time the other ACL will tear as well. I didn't want to put my dog through this procedure a second time with Dr. Shargani because it felt so wrong so I looked for a second opinion. I found an orthopedic surgeon that could perform my dog's surgery. She guided me through pre and post op procedures, lifetime supplementation of glucosamine and omega 3 & 6s, and the surgery itself. Her colleague was able to pre-diagnose both of my dog's ACL tears, which were verified through X-rays. The orthopedic surgeon performed on my dog's so called "healthy" knee per Dr. Shargani. Her RVT took pictures to show me afterwards. My dog's knees were grinding on each other causing my dog unnecessary pain because of Dr. Shargani's misdiagnosis. After a long two month recovery and X-ray recheck, the ortho surgeon cleared my dog for an increase in exercise. I knew I wanted to fix my dog's original surgery so that's what we did. When she went into that surgery, the material Dr. Shargani used was just sitting there, not supporting my dog's knee like it was supposed to. She stated that most hospitals will perform this surgery because it's cheaper than buying the metal required for the large breed dog surgery. After another 2 month recovery and X-ray, we were cleared for exercise again. Each surgery has a 4 month recovery after clearance to allow the dog time to rebuild muscle and begin walking on that knee again. Now my dog can run, jump, and play without limping even as he's getting older. He loves his glucosamine chews and will lick his bowl clean for the omega 3 & 6s. I blame Dr. Shargani for allowing me to go through with the original surgery knowing it is not meant for large breed dogs. I should've stood up for my dog and left then. I don't ever plan on returning. read more

My dog got stung by a wasp we found a hive we didnt know we had, ran to the vet because my poor dogs started to throw up, and his face was so swollen he was not looking well.. I call ahead and they took us right away. I was scared to death my dog was not going to make it he looked horrible. But right away dr took care of him and my puppy went right back to being him self.
