I have used Southeastern Jewelry for years but this time had a very bad experience. I brought in a ring to be enlarged to give to my granddaughter. clerk said it would be $200.00 to enlarged it which I thought was very expensive but because I had been pleased with their work berfore many times I agreed. when I picked it up I noticed the band was much narrower than before. it looked like they had just stretched the ring and not added any gold. Clerk took it back to the jeweler who denied that. I pointed out that at the top of the ring the band was much larger and then narrowed dramatically. Clerk asked if I had taken a picture of the ring before i brought it in. I told her I didn't realize I had to photograph my jewelery before I had it repaired. She took ring back to jeweler who said they would redo it but it would cost another $175.00. I told clerk how upset I was but she said maybe I should find another jeweler. My husband bought the first piece of jewelry he gave me from them 60 years ago when they were downtown. I can't believe how I was treated or how shoddy the work was this time. if you use them for repair follow clerk's advise and photograph your jewelry and compare prices before you let them touch your jewelry, then pray for a good result because it you don't get one they certainly won't make it right. read more

DO NOT get your diamond mounted at this place. They mounted mine crooked & the diamond came loose within 1 month exactly. I had to take it to a new jeweler where they then told me the person who originally did it was an apprentice because the cuts in the prongs were messed up, then recut poorly. This business wouldn't even pay for shipping for the ring to be sent back so they could fix their mistake. Horrible experience & customer service. I might eventually have to get a whole new mount because this place butchered mine. Do not go here unless you want to loose money. read more

We have been purchasing jewelry and have had jewelry made from Southeastern Jewelers for several years. Today we took a pair of earrings in that were made by Southeastern Jewelers in February 2019, we supplied the gemstone, which were opals passed down from a great grandmother and the jeweler supplied the gold studded earring piece with prongs. The gemstone fell out, but the prongs were not broken, they were intact., so the gemstone wasn't set properly. Well the young girl that was assisting us told us it would be $50.00 to repair, a fault of theirs.... Nothing was broken, the prongs were loose and the gemstone fell out. We bulked at the repair price and the presumptuous girl assumed the earrings were worn all the time, which wasn't factual at all, finally the young one went and asked someone in the back office about pricing and we got it to $35.00, which is still absurd that there is no guarantee from their work which is under a year old. Then the sales girl proceeds to say that you have to come in EVERY MONTH to have the prongs checked. Which I have never heard of in my life! Every month?? Ridiculous! Which we told her just that, then the cocky attitude sets in with the juvenile. She told us "maybe you should go use your own jeweler" ....which from this point on we will definitely use another jeweler. And so will my other family members. The banter went on as we went round and round about policies and no one ever told us to come back every month to check the prongs, no one ever mentioned you will have to pay a repair fee if a stone falls out from an improper setting...Nor will the honor the workmanship they have done. My parents have known the owner for many years through church, and it's a shame to have unpleasant people working in a customer service position when obviously they aren't customer service respectful. I would not recommend this jeweler in the future as we were severely disappointed that a young disrespectful sales associate can act like she did and not have any professional service rendering. Through my own clumsiness, I unfortunately snapped a link on my favorite necklace. I brought it to Southeastern Jewelers to seek help. The ladies behind the counter were very motherly and made me feel right at home. They repaired my necklace for $30. It took about a week to get done. Maybe a little steeper than I would have thought a simple link repair would cost, but it was not a job I could have done myself with my sausage fingers. Plus, the necklace looked identical to its original condition, and I would be losing considerably more money if I was not able to wear the necklace, so I have no real complaints about the cost of Southeastern Jewelers' high quality work. My fiancée and I stopped in SEJ to purchase his wedding band. The store has a nice selection and we were greeted and helped immediately. However, the lady that helped us seemed very disinterested and almost annoyed in the process of picking out his ring. She was quite indifferent throughout the whole experience and overall just not very friendly. The experience was quick and painless enough but the saleswoman is why I can only give 3 stars. The clasp on my gold necklace was broken, so I came in for a jewelry repair. I was attended to immediately after entering, and the repair took less than five minutes! The staff was very sweet, and they even thanked me for visiting them. That's new! The cost was about $5 to fix the clasp, and the woman who checked me out even gave me some pro-tips about purchasing jewelry in the area (because of the lower tax rate relative to other Jefferson county cities). We had been to four different chain jewelers, and they all took their part in ruining this experience. We stopped here as a last ditch effort, and I'm so glad we did. The lady showing us rings was absolutely amazing. She was genuinely excited to show me rings. She wasn't rude or dismissive because of our age, appearance, or budget. She was a breath of fresh air and put the excitement back into ring shopping. They also had so many beautiful options to try on. I have went to Southeastern Jewelers twice and 2 times Ive had issues with them. The first time they made the ring wrong that was special made and wouldnt fix it and then I ordered something and when I changed my mind about it and didnt want it they said there was a 20% restocking fee that wasnt mentioned to me and wasnt printed on my receipt. When I tried to talk to someone name Renee and mention I worked in retail for years before college and have heard of a restocking fee but only when mentioned upfront or printed on the receipt she was over talking me and saying something like yea, yea like she was dismissing what I was saying. Extremely aggressive and disrespectful on top of trying to steal my money. I know from working retail for years that if you order something you can just send it back for normally free of charge if it hasnt been engraved. This place is a money grab place. If they keep my money and my item I will be out both or the 20% is 70.00. I right now dont have my piece of jewelery or my money for it since they have not refunded my money. I wouldnt want anyone to go to a place like this and get took advantage of. read more

I went into a few stores around birmingham and eventually settled on a few settings. We ended up choosing to buy the setting from Southeastern because they seemed to be the most trustworthy and genuine of all the shops. I wanted to buy it from a place whereI will feel comfortable getting my jewelry serviced in the future. They were honest with us about certain things and spent a ton of time with us before we made the decision. Then they had my ring back to my in less than 48 hours. It was incredible. read more
