Would avoid this jeweler. Went into "Anthony & Co Jewelers" to get a citizen watch sized and some links removed. The lady at the front desk sized my wrist and then took my watch back to be worked on. Never quoted me any price. While I was waiting, my wife and I were pricing some pearls. (A wedding gift i intended to purchase from their store) When she returned from removing a couple links, I was informed that the cost of service was $50. $50 to size and remove links! No thank you, unfortunately have lost my business. I would avoid this shop. read more

My fiancee's gold necklace broke about a week ago, so he dropped it off here for repairs. Since it's so close to my job, I came by to pick it up. I'm not someone who enjoys going to jewelry stores (the people always seem shady and smell blood in the water when they see an inexperienced customer like myself). Here was different. I walked in and was greeted kindly, and asked for my brief patience because all associates were helping other customers. Then, when I was assisted, it took less than 5 minutes. The person helping me was personable, friendly, and enthusiastic to help. The customer service here was top-notch, the environment was clean, homey and inviting, and the displays were organized and visually appealing. Now, let's cut to the chase--I got to meet GUNNER. There are so many qualified jewelers in the Birmingham area, so I implore you to go somewhere else with your business. I had gone to Anthony & Co. Jewelers to fix my wife's engagement ring and was terribly disappointed with the results. I had dropped off the ring to have a single prong fixed and when I returned to pick up the ring, the entire setting of the ring had been changed. I spoke with Bryon directly and after showing him before and after pictures of the ring setting, he agreed that the setting was different but denied any wrongdoing, claiming that he had not altered the setting. The ring had originally belonged to my wife's grandmother and now, because of the work Anthony & Co. Jewelers, the ring will never be the same. Let me save you some time researching the process. Unscrupulous parties are notorious for taking advantage of the average consumer who is green to the precious metal exchange. I did my due diligence educating myself on the process and at first was a bit confused with the weight exchange conversion to penny weights (DWT), although some jewellers weigh in grams like Anthony & Co Jewelers. Nevertheless, to obtain top dollar for your gold, follow these easy steps: 1) Decipher what carrot you have (14K, 18K etc). 2) Weigh items pertaining to same carrot weight separately on an appropriate scale 3) Add the values of total amount you have of all 14K items, 18K etc. 4) Search online for a gold value calculator & enter your numbers to obtain the daily market value of the weight. Expect to receive purchase offers of 70% to 85% of the daily market value, less than that is not a valid offer. 5) After you do a little homework, you can call local gold buyers and inquire what they are paying that day per gram or per penny weight for 14K gold (or whatever carrot you have). Something like stone removal may alter that figure, be sure & ask if applies to you. I'm in the Riverchase / N Pelham area and called several businesses from Pelham to Inverness to Homewood to inquire what they were paying. I got answers from 28% of the daily market value to no answer at all, telling me to bring in what I had (red flag). My search uncovered Anthony's & Co Jewelers, right down the street from me on Valleydale Rd, to be the highest payer, hands down & no contest! They actually offered more than 85% of market value, over the usual standard industry highest offer. I had all pieces pre-weighed & separated by carrot value. They were so simple & great to work with, you can request cash or a check on the spot. Beyond having to reign in myself to avoid shopping their exquisite, impressive, sparkling inventory to avoid spending what I just made on the trade, the experience was really great, truly a breath of fresh air.
