A year ago we bought a fixer-upper with two broken HVAC systems. I researched what an HVAC system should cost in Palmdale, CA in 2023 (last year). Then I scheduled 4 companies to come out and give us estimates. The first guy came in a suit with a fancy portfolio full of pictures and told us he'd need at least 90 minutes for the estimate (this is a yellow flag). He bragged about his company and finally gave us a quote of $55,000; I could not stop laughing. Then the second candidate showed up and put us through a similar show and tell of all they would do for us. He came in at $27,000 but my research told me that was still too high and he could not answer many of the questions I asked him. Both of these guys used scare tactics and put everyone else down in order to get the business. The phrase "you'll get what you pay for" is their favorite line. Don't buy it. Neither of these guys really knew about HVAC systems...they were just trained to sell, sell, sell. The other 2 companies were Oscar's SoCalMechanical and another local company. Their quotes were nearly identical and right in line with my research of fair prices. All 4 companies were quoting the same brand with the same specs. We choose Oscar of Southern California Mechanical because he was straight-forward, knowledgeable, and totally honest. Oscar explained exactly what we needed for the size of our home and also what would not make any difference. Yes, he knows about all the high priced bells and whistles, but if you don't need them, he's not going to try to razzle-dazzle and upsell you on things you don't need. He has a gift for educating people about HVAC systems and if you pay attention, you'll learn so much. This home needed everything; at times it was over-whelming. In the midst of the remodeling project that is finally approaching completion after a year, it has been extremely refreshing to find someone who is not just in it for the money, but who truly cares about the long-term service he can offer his customers. Our units have been working fine for a full year now and we've been very comfortable. In fact, we're going to sign up for the maintenance/cleaning package so that Oscar and his team can keep our new units working efficiently for years to come. After a very careful review of licensed AC contractors in the Antelope Valley, I selected 3 companies to provide quotes. I started with the state CSLB site to find licensed contractors as there are a lot of unlicensed people doing this work. I then read many of the yelp reviews to assess that the reviews were real! Of the three companies I selected for quotes, Southern California Mechanical had the lowest price. All of the companies quoted similar equipment, although some provided higher prices for options that I don't think I needed. When I mentioned one of these suggested options Oscar came out a second time to make sure my duct size was OK, and the option was not needed. He was also flexible in that I chose a different brand of heater than the initial quote. The installation was complicated because the new heater is smaller than the existing one. I'm not qualified to evaluate installations, but everything looked to be neat and well secured. Everything works well, so I am very happy! read more

For heater or furnace issues, the place is good. Oscar was concerned and helpful. I hope our A/C unit doesn't go out soon, even though we got it about 5 years ago but this company did not installed it but they installed the furnace, he recommended that he will check when it's warmer to see if both are synchronized and we didn't mess up the A/C unit with the old furnace we had. As a family owned business owner myself. I understand the importance of honesty integrity and customer service. Sometimes with big name companies there's no recourse for dissatisfaction and they know this so performance is sub par!! I can say with absolute confidence Oscar is a master of his craft. He knows what he is doing and gives u the best price and service in the AV. Our AC unit went out after only 10 years because it wasn't installed properly by the builder. We always knew this would happen but just waiting till when. One issue even before the unit died on us was one side of the house (2 bedrooms and a bathroom) never got air because of the shortcuts they took. Oscar investigated the problem thoroughly and presented us with several options to stay within our budget. He found several inexpensive fixes we can do rather than spend additional thousands of dollars to redo all the vents and ducts on top of the costly but fair replacement of the ac unit. Over the years advice was given that we would possibly need TWO units to cool the total square footage of the house, 2012sf with vaulted ceilings. Oscar didn't feel this would be necessary if the unit was installed right and we added a buffer blower going to the other rooms. We own an older home that we purchased a couple of years ago, and we had never tried the older style heater that was in a closet of it's own in the home. I called Southern California Mechanical after reading many of the positive reviews on here and kept hearing people mention (OSCAR) the tech whom had provided service praised by so many. I was scheduled for tomorrow Thursday, however I was pleasantly surprised on getting a call from Oscar himself, advising me that there was an open time today if I would like him to come out. I was more then happy have him respond and service my heater not even knowing if this thing would work or not. Oscar was right on the time he said he would come out, he was very polite, attentive to details, and made sure I was going to have a working heater. I highly recommend this fine service provider. I tried to get a company to service my air conditioning unit and two said they would send someone. One didn't keep appointment and never called and the other arrived later than appointed time and wanted $1200 to "fix" clean my unit.
