I wanted to update my review as it's been over six years since the install. Nothing has changed in all of this time; their service is always courteous, prompt and efficient. I had an issue with the blower and even though they had been here recently to clean the chimney, they came again without cost to me, and fixed the problem. They were unbelievably thorough. Absolutely shocked I was quoted $295 per fireplace to come out and measure and discuss needs in order to get a quote. If we went with their quote then the money goes towards purchase but if not, we were out $600 (for 2 fireplaces) just for seeking them out as a fireplace resource. All we needed were 2 gas log units plus boxes that vented out the side of the house, no chimney involved, no roof involved. Not to mention that their website states they do work in Upstate SC yet on the phone she said it was a bit of a drive so they were including that in the charge. Absolute rip off! I do not write reviews on Yelp b/c I have a small business and I like to support other small businesses. However, if I charged potential clients to come out and quote a job I wouldn't have any business. This is ridiculous and I cannot and will not support this company. They relined our brick chimney, cleaned everything and put a stainless steel chimney cap/damper on top. The work on the firebox, chimney were great, the guys were friendly, neat and knew their stuff. My BIG problem is with the $1200 cap/damper. It will not close properly. After we have a fire, let all cool and close the damper, the whole house soon smells like a smoke house. The damper will not close properly, letting air in from the top. We have had 2 service calls on this and it is not fixed. There seems to be a design flaw in the close mechanism. We are waiting on a return call to see if they will come out and, once again, try and fix this. If they can't, I will be asking for a refund on this expensive item and will try someone else. DO NOT buy this item if they do work for you. I will update my review pending a service call. read more

We had a fantastic experience with Southern Chimney! Our project was pretty huge all the way around. Big demolition that required throwing sheets over furniture and other surfaces, then fitting and framing in a much larger fire box and ultimately rebuilding the hearth and chimney stone 17 feet high. All of the crew, no matter what their roles, were intent on getting it right and did not cut any corners. We are very glad we had them for our project. read more

This is an update to last year's rating which was 3 stars. After fixing the closing problem of the damper, it appears that it is the design of the chimney cap damper that is bad. Even when the damper is closed, the house smells like smoke even when the fireplace doors are closed. This is apparently because air from the entire chimney is able to move down into the house. There is no way to prevent this with this type of damper. DO NOT GET A CHIMNEY TOP DAMPER!! Not only are they very expensive, they will cause your house to smell like smoke, even if you keep the fireplace clean. I am waiting on a response to 2 calls about this to see if a traditional damper can be installed. I was happy with the other work that was done but this is negating all of that. If they fix it, I will change the rating. Not happy! read more

Southern Chimney Sweep was fantastic. About two months after their inspection and installation of new chimney caps, we discovered a leak near one of the chimneys. They offered to come back at no charge, even though we are over an hour away, to re-inspect the new leak. The fix will require a roofer rather than chimney pro, so I'm having it fixed elsewhere, but the fact they took the time to come out and inspect again at no charge, just in case it could be an issue with the new caps, says volumes about their honesty and reliability. Note that this business also cleans out dryer vents and does a great job. They also installed an exterior vent device that I purchased on the internet as a better functioning upgrade. They also sell stoves and gas logs. Great operation. read more
