Southern Coop in Oxford has some of my favorite fries in the area! My partner and I usually share the Western Ranch Fries, which come loaded with bacon, cheese, ranch, and BBQ sauce, and we add a fried chicken tender on top and remove the jalapeños. The portions are HUGE, so it's definitely something we can share and have plenty to eat. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. I've also ordered the kids' chicken tender meal before, and honestly, it was more than enough food for me. They recently moved to a new location and now have an indoor golf simulator that you can reserve, which is a fun addition and makes it more than just a place to grab something to eat. The southern coop, located on the outskirts of Oxford. Private parking lot and ample parking that's well lit. Stopped into the souther coop tonight for dinner. It's a small place, seemed someone chain-sequencer I don't know that. I was looking for a local owned place and thought this was it. Dunno if it was the right choice but here goes. Started out with a coors light and bbq chicken nachos. The entree was bbq chicken and bacon sandwich with fries. The nachos were delicious. Sweet bbq sauce, good chunks of chicken and the chips were light and airy. The cheese sauce was legit and full of flavor as well. A 10/10 for the nachos. The sandwich was good, as were the fries. Plenty of meat and the fries were hot, just how I like them. The service was good, nobody actually waits on you, you order at a counter and they bring you your food. That's it. You police your own trash when you're done. Overall, this really wasn't what I was looking for. I was looking for a locally owned mom and pop type place. Something that didn't have the chain vibe. This is kinda a sports bar with food ish. They have some golf simulators and televisions. While the food was good, for me, it's a pass on a second visit when I come back to Ole Miss. A true wings staple here in oxford with delicious wings and everything else you could possibly imagine a wings place selling. Their menu is vast with plenty of different options of good food, although I've never had the pizza. An added bonus to this place is the hospitality and kindness of the staff especially Liz, she helped me decide on what wing sauce flavor to get that was delicious (something Bourbon). So many different flavors that all taste great. Only complaint is it is a bit overpriced but that we can thank Joe Biden. read more

Informed server that I wanted to switch sauce dip that was untouched for a different sauce, for a 12 piece meal, was told the sauce costs more so she would have to charge me. Honey BBQ sauce seriously?! The restaurant is clean, which is the ONLY thing going for it. No smile, no thank you, no checking to see if we needed anything else. Phone rings, no one answers. I was in the N. Lamar area on Saturday, and decided to go to Southern Coop after finding that a nearby establishment had closed early for the day. This was my second visit there, and everything hit the spot: casual ambience, super friendly staff, and overwhelming chicken possibilities. I ended up ordering the Asian chicken sandwich (with Tiger sauce!), along with a side of okra. Very tasty, and I will definitely come back soon. read more

Tried them for the first time last week and was very happy! I got the honey gold traditional wings extra crispy with fried okra. I got take out- and usually with wings covered in sauce and the fried okra, I expected some mushy ness from just natural condensation/packing. Very good chicken wings, Southern Coop has so many flavors to offer!! It's a bummer that you have to order atleast 16 wings just to get two flavors.. On the other hand, my favorite is the Honey Gold. Sweet & Sour is good as well, but the Parmesan Ranch Romano is very tasty. Lemon Pepper is usually my go to flavor but here it's way too salty for me. Getting the Potato Salad is always a must for me. It's sour cream based instead of mustard, which is way better. It has real bacon and chives, it's perfectly balanced. If you want wings with a variety of original flavors then definitely give this place a try. You will not be disappointed! read more

I can't say enough about this place! Amazing service, atmosphere and the food was off the charts delicious. We had the mushrooms as an appetizer. We split the wings 3 ways; Mango Habanero, Kickin Bourbon and Honey Cajun BBQ with a large fry. The wings were super fresh and crispy. The sauces were on point and so flavorful plus there were enough fries for 6 people. I can't forget the homemade Ranch - it was outstanding. We will be back - you should go too! read more

Great food but not so great service. When we went to the register to order, the girl was smacking her gum and blowing bubbles in our face. She also had no clue as to what any of the flavors tasted like when I asked what she would recommend. I understand there is a lot of sauces for the wings but if you work there, at least be able to tell me the basic things. There were also 3 kids running around and disturbing tables while people were eating. I assume they were the kids of someone who worked there because employees would give them food to bring to tables (absolutely disgusting since they were also playing on the floor of the restaurant). Wings and fries were fantastic but lack of professionalism was a bummer. EDIT: I've gone in an additional time after this review was posted and I noticed a difference in professionalism from the moment I walked in. Different employee at register who was super informed and knowledgeable. Food came out promptly and was just as great as I remembered. First time there and Holy cow I just finished my meal....I'm physically in pain but I regret nothing!! This place is absolutely fire! I'm actually sad I can't keep eating. I got the dry Cajun and Oxford Hot and both were amazing. I got halfway through my meal before I realized I hadn't touched the ranch or Coo sauce cause the seasoning and wing sauce was more than enough. I hate soggy wings and these were perfectly crispy while not being dry or over done. I got mine to go but the interior looked pretty cool and the staff was very friendly. I love wings and a friend referred me to Southern Coop and I thought I would have a very good meal. Instead, I'll order it online and I was given a 20 minute wait and I showed up 10 minutes early and my food was ready and I walked inside to get my food and the lady made me go get my ID from my car to confirm that I wasn't doing credit card fraud for a $13 meal. I don't know if they thought I was trying to take someone else's food, I've never had that experience and I've worked as a server and never witnessed that. I went home and ate the wings and they didn't taste like dry rub Buffalo, really greasy, like greasey for wings. It's a couple hours later and my stomach isn't feeling too well. Went here in search of a solid wing spot in Oxford and we definitely found one. The hot wings were the perfect amount of heat, the fries were solid and the ranch tied everything together nicely. The only small thing that could be improved was that the ranch cups were a little too small to dip some of the wings. Yesssssss yesssssss yesssssss. This might be the best chicken wing spot I've been to in a long time. I'm visiting the area, just drop my daughter off at old Miss university and i was looking for some good food in the area. I decided to try the southern coop and can i just say that i found a jem. The staff was awesome and the food was even better. I order a 24 piece wings with the fried okra, which came highly recommended by the owner. I also had a salad and 2 kids meals, 1 chicken tenders and 1 grilled chicken sandwich. Can i say that we polished off ever single bit of food. We selected this restaurant because it was local (as opposed to a chain restaurant) and we wanted some good chicken. From the moment we entered the friendliness of the staff and cleanliness of the restaurant was top shelf. The appetizers were served hot and everything we ordered was unique, flavorful and reasonably priced. Our main courses were also tasty, hot and the portions were abundant. We shared a piece of the homemade cake fir desert and it was a perfect end to a perfect meal. When in Oxford MS try this place you will leave with a full belly and a smile on your face. read more

Never again! Southern Coop used to be my favorite wing place...not anymore! The last few orders I have gotten from them have been less than pleasing. Yesterday, they finally struck out. I called in an order. I was told my order would be ready in ten minutes. Try 50 minutes! I am understanding about a lunch crowd but at least be honest about the pickup time because that was almost an hour I could have spent doing something else. I get home...and I had to question if the wings were even done. I am not a fried hard fan but these wings were soft and pink inside. $20 down the drain. Ordered over the phone and was told 15min. After getting there and waiting people that ordered after me(when I first arrived at restaurant) received their food before me. This is extremely disrespectful and the staff is to busy to get orders to their current customers because they kept taking calls to get more business. My order 40 min later sat for 10 min at the counter to just be put in a bag. As someone that owns a business in this town that's in the service industry I am at a loss of words.
