I posted this revues on Google and also sent an email to the restaurant explaining how frustrating our experience was. They neither responded to my email nor the review with any sort of explanation or apology which suggests that they don't really care. So I'll share this on Yelp too so others are aware of their poor customer service. We visited this restaurant with a group of seven and were excited to try it, especially because the outdoor seating area looked like a great spot for dinner. Unfortunately, the experience ended up being very disappointing. Service was extremely slow and disorganized from the start. About 15 minutes after ordering, a different waitress brought food to our table that we hadn't ordered, then quickly took it away without much explanation. From there, things only got worse. Our meals came out slowly over the course of 30-45 minutes, just one or two plates at a time, with no communication about the delays. Our four-year-old waited nearly 45 minutes for a simple order of fish sticks. Even basic service was lacking. We had to ask multiple times for something as simple as an apple juice refill, and it still took far too long to arrive. Toward the end of the meal, our waitress stopped checking on our table altogether, which made it difficult to order dessert. The food itself was pretty good, which is the only reason this isn't a one-star review. However, the poor service and lack of attentiveness completely overshadowed the experience. Overall, it was frustrating and disappointing, and we don't plan to return. read more

Great drinks and really nice atmosphere when the weather is perfect to sit outside. The food is also very good. The beignet was very dense and was not exactly like the ones you get in New Orleans but it was still amazing as a dessert on its own without the comparison. read more

Okay my previous review of 4 was because my kids aren't a fan... and to be fair they are not trying for that age group so I get it. I took my dad here today and he confirmed all my warm fuzzies I felt over the good food. This IS what my dad made for me in Elementary school. Now that I'm on they heavly weighted 40's and my father's in the mid 80'sssss we both appreciate how it makes us feel young for no other reason but for my memories of my dads cooking as the youngest of 4 in a Navy house. My partner and I had a great experience here. I ordered the catfish sticks and fried okra, my partner ordered the fried shrimp and a side of Cajun fries. While cornbread breading isn't my favorite, the food itself was so fresh I didn't mind. Coming from Florida, I am very picky about my seafood and this was amazing and fresh seafood. This was an awesome find here in Charlottesville! Everything from the ambiance to the service to the drinks to the food was amazing! We had originally made a reservation for inside but the woman at the bar let us know we could choose a seat outside and I'm glad we did. The weather was perfect and the lights outside as well as we sat at one of the fire tables made it so nice. Also the music playing and sitting in a garden really made me feel like I had been transported back to New Orleans which is one of my favorite cities for food and the overall vibe! Food wise we ordered quite a few dishes and had leftovers but we were excited to try all the good New Orleans inspired foods and it did not disappoint! Stars of the food: Jambalaya Red beans & Rice Gumbo House salad Hush puppies Chips-good but should have skipped these to have more room for the other goodies. Would not order again- the beignets. Not light and fluffy. Drinks- The mocktail was absolutely delicious and my husband loved his zombie drink and hurricane. Came for a double date on a cold day, so sat inside. Definitely more of a warm weather place as there's a lot of porch and outdoor seating, but we still enjoyed our meal and ambiance very much! To start, I love Cajun food. I know Cajun food and what it's supposed to taste like. I love Cajun food so much, I wouldn't mind paying $22 for jambalaya. What I got though was bad service, a small portion with what seemed like rice mixed with stewed tomatoes and a few pieces of unremarkable sausage and chicken. To say it was a disappointment is an understatement. If my 8 year old threw these ingredients in a pot and stirred it together, I'd think the same result would come out. Everything is over-priced and not very good. They shouldn't even label it Cajun. read more

Came here with my dad, a New Orleans native. We both LOVED the food- especially the conch fritters and po'boys. The vieux Carre was a favorite of mine, perfectly flavored and the right amount of strength. This was one of the better po'boys I've had north of South Carolina, and I made myself save half so I could enjoy it the next day. There were 5 in total which I thought was kind of a small amount, the fritters were mainly batter not much "seafood". 2.5/5 stars I got the Catfish Po Boy because the fried oysters were sold out and it was a pretty tasty! 4.5/5 stars My best friend got the gator-andouille sausage po boy. There was WAYYYY too much creole mustard and the flavor was overwhelming. They ended up eating just the filling because the bread was covered in mustard. 1/5 stars Finished off the night with two beignets! They were COVERED in mounds of powdered sugar. Had to shake off all the excess and the beignet itself was super super small. First off, this is the CUTEST and most beautifully decorated place restaurant I have ever been to. I was BLOWN away by the decor and atmosphere. The restaurant literally transports you to another place when you set foot inside. It's indescribable and magical. As for the food, the po boy was pretty good. I love how I got to see the entire soft-shell crab on my sandwich which was juicy and perfectly seasoned. The bread was delightful, buttery, and crisp. The gator bites were a bit of a letdown because the fried batter was very overwhelming with very little gator. The beignet was undercooked and nothing special. I will definitely be coming back to try their other items and enjoy the decor and atmosphere! read more

I give 3 stars because communicating with the staff about hours, reservations, etc, was quite pleasant. The one thing they did not tell me... there is no parking lot! As a single female dining alone, I drove around for 20 minutes trying to find street parking. No such luck. It wasn't even the weekend. I would LOVE to try this place. We placed our orders on their website early Sunday afternoon, requesting a later pickup time. When we arrived, we called and they said they'd bring the food out to the front porch. Not too sure why they asked for the car information. We got 5 shrimp poboys and a potato salad. The poboys were the real deal. Delicious and had the right bread. The potato salad was very eh. This place has a quirky, funky vibe. You order from the bar and they bring it to your table. The food seemed to be served in no particular order. The other couple ordered ahead of us but we ordered right after them. They got their food first both appetizers and main dish. Then came my husband's entree and about 10 minutes later our appetizer arrive along with my main dish. The conch fritters were very good. The conch maybe got a little lost in the fritter but they were really tasty with a little kick to them. My jambalaya was a disappointment. It was mushy and bland with scant little disks of sausage and lots of chicken. The flour-less chocolate cake almost made up for it. read more

Initially I went to Southern Crescent because they serve conch fritters. Happily, that was just one of the many items on the menu I came to like - the oyster po' boy and muffaletta are probably at the top of the list. The cocktails are tasty; the obligatory, delicious Sazerac and the Saturn are favorites. While their beer selection isn't extensive by Charlotesville standards, it's solid and I never lacked for something good to try. I found staff members to be friendly, helpful, and professional. Southern crescent was the perfect spot tonight for a gorgeous summer evening dinner out. They have perfected the lux summer patio mood with warm twinkle lights, lush greenery, big fans, porch swings, and candle light at every table. The back patio has comfy couches, outdoor bar and ping pong. Perfect place to score a mint julep and enjoy the summer night at the renovated old southern home. The food has a Louisiana Cajun flair with a wide po'boy menu, jambalaya, and creative appetizers (like homemade pimento cheese!). My friend got the veggie tofu po'boy and raved about it. I had the gator-andouille sausage po'boy and didn't love it (the casing on the sausage was tough to eat and the mustard drowned out the other flavors) but mad props for being the only place in Cville to have GATOR on the menu! I would absolutely come back but more likely for drinks/appetizers on the patio and less so dinner. This place is clearly winning in atmosphere and charming southern hospitality! read more

Incredible. Can I give Southern Crescent six stars? We sat outside for New Years around a cozy fire pit, and originally intended to have one drink a piece. Ordered a Mai Tai and a Chi Chi (a citrusy vodka-based drink), and they were so good that we ordered two more. Two turned into eight drinks (favorite was the Cognac-forward Master of Ceremonies), and nearly one of every appetizer on the menu. A+ for stellar beverages. Food-wise, holy cow. The Pimento cheese and Gator bites (think chicken nuggets for gator tails) are insanely good. The biscuits with ham were some of the best I've ever had. Favorite entrees were Lobster Etouffee and a delicious Shrimp Po'boy. Dessert was also stellar. Key Lime Pie was tops, and the Fall-in-One pie was really interesting. Pumpkin, pecan, and apple crisp in one. Only the beignet was a let down, but that's because we took it to go with the others and it was cold by the time we bit into it. So, we went for one drink a piece and ended up rolling out of there so happy three hours later. Highly, highly recommend! read more

Southern Crescent is currently outdoors only due to covid, but they have a wonderful outdoor space. You order everything at the bar and they then bring it to your table, and you are responsible for bussing your plates and silverware. They offer delicious cocktails and a wide selection of drinks. The gator bites were good and came with a yummy side sauce. The oyster Po boy was delicious with huge fried oysters, but the chips on the side were lackluster. Wonderful experience every time! Beautiful setting that feels right out of the Garden District with amazing food and cocktails. My go-to is an oyster po boy with a Vieux Carre. I've had 2 birthday gatherings here (now it is a tradition) and they are so accommodating. The staff was wonderful and had everything set up so lovely. Food- awesome 5* flavor and quality. I had the fried okra, gumbo and he had smothered catfish. Our little one joined and had red beans and rice. All were delicious and nicely presented. Portion size- 3* because it was quite small for the price. I'm talking maybe 8 total okra (cut in half lengthwise) and small cup of beans and rice, a tiny scoop of rice in my gumbo. I'm happy paying the rice but there are easy ways to increase the size and not lose the bottom line too much. Service- 3.5* for speed and knowledge of menu. In her defense, it appeared as though one waitress had all the tables with someone helping run food. But it wasn't her fault the food was slow to come out (and it was quite slow, despite arriving before 6pm when only two other 2-tops were present. She did ensure the shrimp allergy wouldn't be an issue for the smothered catfish so I am appreciative of that. Ambiance- 5* I loved the feel of the place and the decor. If it was warmer we'd be outside in a heartbeat as the patio looked awesome. Will we go back? Maybe in the summertime so we can enjoy the patio and flavors but probably not again soon. read more

We love Southern Crescent. Great service & great food! The dressed po'boys are just right - from the classic bread roll to the delicately fried filling & remoulade. Other favorites include the fresh gazpacho, cold asparagus soup, red beans and rice, and rum punch. We have enjoyed several dinners and brunches here is the past and have been so glad we've been able to pick up some treats with call-ahead orders during shelter-in-place/semi-shutdown. The customer service and the food are as good as ever (you can even get the rum punch now ;-)). We look forward to when we can enjoy a delicious meal on the lovely side porch again! read more

Great outdoor space with lots of heaters! The sign says to pick and table and order inside, but I had my dog. So I picked a table and called them on the phone. They were so helpful and accommodating.
