My husband and I visited Devils Grill on our three day weekend Covid getaway to Wintergreen Resort. We ended up dining her for both Friday night and Saturday night dinner both at 815 pm. And then returned for a delicious brunch on Sunday morning before heading home. The wine selection was not what my husband or I would like to drink with a nice dinner, but when we asked our waiter if there was a more extensive list she was able to check the back and came out with a delicious wine (Caymus) that we both love and were so glad they had on hand. The pricing for the bottle was also excellent, not an extravagant up charge. Julia was our waitress both evenings and she was absolutely fabulous, excellent taste in meal choices and so attentive. With covid having made some of the dining options at Wintergreen close it was so nice to have this location available for a nicer meal. Our first night we enjoyed the chefs special broccoli/cheese soup, Pear & Goat Salad, chefs special of Duck, and the Classic New York Style Cheesecake. All were FABULOUS. The second evening we enjoyed the Soup De Jour, Pear & Goat Salad, baby gem Caesar, Sea scallops, and the Creme Brûlée. All our food was absolutely delicious and cooked exactly to what we ordered. 10/10 would recommend this place and we will most definitely return on our next trip to wintergreen. read more

Great location, nearby the condo we stayed at and right by the greens as we have golfers in our family. Wished we requested to have seating outside when we made our reservation, the views are quite nice. Great atmosphere upon entering - nice, cozy and quiet. We were greeted by our waitress who was very sweet, did not remember her name. Started off with menus and a round of water for each person. Some of us decided to order drinks as well. As our waitress went off to get our drinks, we looked at the seasonal dinner menu. It did look rather pricey, but seemed fair for that they were offering. If you are on a budget, the dinner menu will turn you away. After about 5 minutes, our waitress comes back with drinks and we proceed to order. We all skipped appetizers and went straight for entrees. I ordered the double lamb chop, unfortunately I had to ask for it to be cooked well-done because I am pregnant. Everyone finishes ordering, our menus are taken away and we are now just diving into conversations and having a good time. While waiting, a table next to us received their orders and oh my, it all looked delicious and the plating was beautiful. We could not wait until we got our orders. It finally arrives roughly over 20 minutes later. Every entree looked great. My very nice sized double lamp chop was coated in stone ground mustard and parsley crust, with a side of seasonal vegetables and polenta. It looked so good, until I cut into the meat and saw that it was too rare. I ate around it until I could flag our waitress down. The vegetables and polenta was seasoned nicely. I informed the waitress who was kind enough to let me know they will start on a new order. Moments later, a manager appears and comes to apologize and tells me that they will make sure it comes back out correctly and if I would like anything else. Not wanting to wait any longer, I opted for a different entree and I know it could be cooked sooner. I ordered the shrimp and scallops. About 10 minutes, my entree arrives. Again, very nice presentation. I have very decent sized shrimps and scallops on top of a bed of dill rice and vegetables. It was great, the sauces complimented each bite and the vegetables were delicious. Next, the rice. The aroma was fragrant of dill. I took one bite only to chew into the hard bits of the grain because it was undercooked. The only other issue was of the refills (for water and for alcoholic beverages) which took longer than it should have. My boyfriend did order a vodka soda, but instead came a vodka tonic which has a very distinct taste to it. Overall, the dinner was mediocre at best. I would not mind trying the restaurant again as this experience would not turn me away forever. The staff handled everything the best that they could. Maybe next time I will just opt for lunch instead. read more

Walked in with a family of 4 and got seated right away. The server was super nice and accommodating. The drinks were delicious. I got the baked chicken with potatoes and succotash and it was delicious! Had so much flavor in it. My husband got a crab cake sandwhich and he enjoyed it very much so. They had a kids menu and the price was not bad at all. If we come to wintergreen we will definitely eat here again. read more

Had high hopes for this place. Came here with our family of four for dinner with reservations during a stay at Wintergreen Resort. Setting is nice at top of the mountain. Unfortunately, it was a bad experience from beginning to end. Drinks from the drink menu were awful and had to be sent back twice, food was bland and totally forgettable. Worst service we've had in a very long time--he forgot 2 different drink orders, took forever to bring anything, and brought the wrong dessert. $150 meal that wasn't even worth $50. They even charged for the drink I sent back. The server didn't even bother trying to make up for the many things that went wrong. Very disappointing experience overall. read more

For our one dinner out during our a COVID vacay, we ate here. The reviews were very mixed which made us nervous. However, the food was really good and the service was good. Our poor waitress was serving us and a bunch of tables outside but she handled the chaos well. We asked the manager for a wine selection and he brought us 4 bottles to choose from. When we didn't finish it and asked for the rest to go, he gave us a whole new bottle. Two of us ordered filets which came out cooked to order. I got the chicken which was good. These types of resorts restaurants tend to be bad and overpriced but this was a solid meal during a pandemic and at 50% capacity. Good job Devils Grill read more

Really the only serious dining option at the top of the mountain. Good service but dont expect it to be quick. You also have to order well. Pork chop, filet, and fish usually very good. Patio in the summer is really nice for lunch or dinner. read more

Devils grill is considered one of the only 'nice' restaurants in the Wintergreen area. It is adjacent to the main golf clubhouse. The restaurant is spacious and rustic as would be expected for a mountain restaurant. The atmosphere is pleasant. The service is quite slow, from being seated to being served. This is fine if you are interested in a leisurely dinner but if you are in a hurry or have kids, may not be a good place for that. The food is fairly average- not particularly gourmet, but decent enough. Cost is a bit too high considering this. read more

We recently dined at Devil's Grill and were pleased to find it to be - mostly - as we recalled. Once again we scored a table on the terrace overlooking the beautifully manicured 18th hole. The atmosphere outside is casual. One sees lots of golfers from just-completed rounds as well as families staying at the resort. We befriended the table next to ours who were enjoying drinks and appetizers and discussed giving a mock "get in the hole" cry for the golfers approaching the green. Our waitress was both friendly and chatty and eager to share menu selections she thought the kitchen did especially well. She was, however, a little quick on the draw in inquiring whether we were ready to order. OTOH, we were quite content to take it slow and enjoy the summer evening. Portions are a bit smaller than what diners have been programmed to expect through the super-sizing movement at national chains and steakhouses. This point arose when our dining companions remarked that the asparagus salad ($9) didn't resemble the heap one would find at, say, Applebee's. Yet the salad was a pleasant appetizer. Ditto the Seared Sweet Onion salad ($8.50) which is composed of several nicely grilled sweet onion rings, fruit, micro greens and blue cheese. Indeed, I think that diners have forgotten that an appetizer isn't supposed to be the size of a main course. Then again, I believe the economic climate has refocused our attention on attaining value (read: plenty) for each dollar we spend. One miss was the crispy vegetable tempura (8.95) with green goddess dip. The veggies had a "pigs in a blanket" doughy coating that was anything but crispy. And the dip was neither green nor flavorful. Not sure whether this is indicative of how the kitchen interprets tempura or if their fryer was off during our visit but the dish was lousy. My wife's grilled hanger steak ($25) was delicious and a perfect medium-rare. The accompanying white truffle-parmesan fries, however, were pedestrian. Moreover, there was no evidence of truffles nor parmesan; rather, they were topped with raw garlic. My moonfish or opah ($29), a delicate Hawaiian white fish, was outstanding and served with risotto, crunchy summer squash and a delicate sauce with bacon. I wouldn't have guessed bacon would pair well with fish, but it worked beautifully. The kitchen was also flexible in kindly agreeing to pair the pan-seared cod ($23) with the sides offered with the roasted chicken for our dining companions. There are plenty of wines by the glass (it's so much more cost-effective to just buy a bottle, but when others in one's party won't or don't drink, it's a nice option to have) including New (West Coast + Virginia) and Old World selections. The restaurant also offers interesting cocktails (but watch the prices on those specialty cocktails - their twist on a mojito was expensive and not an improvement over the original). Finally, the bar serves a good variety of after dinner drinks and cordials as well as flavored dessert coffees. Curiously, espresso is not an option. Huh? All in all, Devil's Grill remains a lovely and casual spot for good and creative cooking. read more

This is the worst restaurant I've been to. I'm 48 yeaars old and come to wintergreen several times a year. My family went tonight on Valentine's Day. It was the worst experience ever! We waited and waited. Two hours for our food to come! Talked to Walt, the "manager" twice. Nothing got better. Meal was $65/person. Never even received our desert! We got ripped off! Avoid this restaurant! Called my credit card co. to challenge this charge! What a joke! Never read more

Our server was excellent and the atmosphere was quiet and fairly upscale. We had the gnocchi as an appetizer and it wasn't what we expected from the description. We didn't really care for it. For dinner we had the seafood paparadelle. The dish was somewhat bland despite the mix of spices and saffron cream sauce. Everything about this place was an amazing experience! Our waitress, Raf, was phenomenal. She was pleasant, knowledgeable, and seemed genuinely happy to serve us. The food was delicious and the servings were huge! (We all had to-go boxes). We had mac-n-cheese, lamb chops, and the shrimp and grits. As full as we were, we couldn't pass up dessert! I ate one of my top 3 all time favorite meals at the Devil's Grill tonight. The other two were also from this restaurant about 5 years ago. I ordered the Parmesan crusted beef filet with mashed potatoes and a basil cream sauce and it was absolutely delicious. It wasn't just a meal, it was an experience. I really enjoy great food and it was all I could do to not go full on Meg Ryan from When Harry Met Sally right there in the restaurant! My other two favorite meals of all time were beef filet steaks with wine sauces served at the Devil's Grill maybe 5 years ago. They change their menu frequently but I wish they would keep this recipe for future years. I would order it again and again and savor every decadent bite. read more

Lovely location, beautiful views great kitchen that turns out some very nice dishes. I've had the salad With seared sushi grade tuna on several occasions for lunch before golf. Always excellent. Once in a cool cloudy day before golf, I had the special soup of the day: Borscht. It was very spicy and much meatier than any Borscht I've ever had in Ukraine or Russia. Today I had the Blue Cheese Burger with fries for lunch. It was excellent, tasty blue cheese and the kaiser roll was perfect with the burger. My wife had the meatball sub, which she said was excellent. The only downside to The Devils Knob Grill is the service: if can be slow and very spotty. But for the service and over priced liquor, this would be a five star review. read more

Had dinner last night at the newly renovated Devil's Grill Restaurant. It is spectacular, taking full advantage of the views. We were seated and it started to pour. A lighter rain and we would have been ok, but we did have to leave the lovely covered patio. The food for all four of us was terrific. We all shared everything...which is unusual for us. Standouts? The chicken...tender and tasty, the s'mores creme brulee...dark chocolate and teeny marshmallows...I could go on and on. Go there now and take advantage of the cool mountain evening...even if it does rain! Oh and smooth service as well...people like working there. read more
