Cajun lemon pepper wings.
Quawnishia M.

Unfortunately Iron and Ale missed the mark for me. I expected this to be more brunch vibes, but it was more like a clubhouse restaurant. Service was great, staff were welcoming and helpful, just that the menu missed the mark for me. I settled on the tatter tots tops with pulled pork. It came out, the presentation was amazing. 6 Very large house made tots with a small scoop of pulled pork on each one. The issue was that, the tots were either made way early in the morning or the day prior. I typically don't send food back, but I really couldn't eat it. They were hard and inedible. The server thought they were overcooked, but I think many people know an old tatter tot when they have one. So I sent it back and got the Cajun lemon pepper wings and it completely redeemed my trust in the kitchen. My husband had a chicken sand-which and in his words it tasted like a frozen breast that was cooked in the microwave and made as a sand-which thereafter. He said it didn't have much flavor either. I think referring to the options we had as a brunch menu should be reevaluated. Other than that the views of the golf course were amazing while we ate our lunch. This is a one and done visit for me.

Big fan of iron and ale! I only had apps and desserts at the bar, and all were wonderful. Favorite appetizer was the potato skins and favorite dessert was bread pudding on special! Service was excellent. Gorgeous decor. I'll be back!

Burger and fries.

Enjoyed the food, service and ambiance. A very welcome addition to this community. Looking forward to trying more of the food here.

Service and food were top notch. Really good for a golf course and the servings are huge! Affordable prices too.

I had the pram-crusted fillet. It was absolutely amazing! 10/10 recommend! It was a bit noisey inside but the staff was very friendly.

Very garlic-y in the best way -chili cheese fries were good Only complaint: -my friend wasn't a fan of the brisket grilled cheese bc she said the brisket was a little too fatty and not the 'melt in your mouth' kind of fat, but 'chewy hard to swallow' kind of fat Overall good experience!

My husband and I split the nachos, and I ordered the tomato bisque and grilled cheese. The nachos were HUGE - like 6 people could have easily shared them - but they were so good, completely loaded with cheese, salsa, pickled onions and jalapenos, beans, and grilled chicken. We barely put a dent in them but not for lack of trying. The grilled cheese and soup were also really tasty. I wish I was less full and able to enjoy it more. Our server was great, and the outside area is lovely. I definitely want to try more of their alcoholic options, and other food options, next time I am in the area.

But the beer had other ideas. As expected, it was excellent--cold, confident, and clearly in no mood to be rushed. Everything was clean and orderly. The burger arrived and did not disappoint. Honest, well-made, the sort of meal that reminds you why you ordered it in the first place. My wife's brisket sandwich, meanwhile, was everything brisket ought to be--tender, rich, and just indulgent enough to feel like a reward rather than a mistake. Fries came alongside, hot and crisp, doing their job without complaint or ceremony. And then, on the way out--as these things tend to happen--we stopped at the bar. That's where we met Vance. What followed was less a quick cocktail and more a conversation with drinks attached. The cocktails were excellent, but the company made them memorable. Vance makes a great adult beverage. All in all, Devil's Backbone isn't just a place to eat and drink. It's a place where a simple plan quietly turns into a better evening than you expected.

We visited around 3:00 p.m., well before the dinner rush, so we weren't expecting service delays or other issues. Unfortunately, the food was bland, overly oily, and significantly overpriced for the quality. We used to come here regularly and always enjoyed it, but it just isn't what it once was. The dining area was also uncomfortably warm, as the air conditioning didn't appear to be on. The only relief came when the kitchen door opened. Service felt rushed and impersonal as well--we were greeted with a curt "Where do you want this plate?" when our food arrived, which didn't make us feel particularly welcome. The property itself remains a lovely place to spend some time outdoors, but based on this visit, we wouldn't recommend it as a destination for dinner. We hope the restaurant can return to the level of quality and hospitality it once offered.

The setting was exceptional: perched beside the cidery with a pasture stretching out nearby, it had that perfect mix of open space and laid-back charm. For a first outing, I don't have much to compare it to, but it's hard to imagine a better start. Connectivity was surprisingly excellent--we were pulling 5G UW, which felt like a small miracle and made everything easier. The location couldn't have been more convenient, with trails, venues, and restaurants all close at hand. The cidery itself offered around two dozen options, and the Imperial Peach quickly became our go-to libation. And yes, they've got a happy hour at the cidery--and you already know that's my favorite time of day. Within three miles, you've got IGA, the ABC store, and Beltie's, while Devil's Backbone sits right across the street. The on-site BBQ Beast delivered exactly what you'd hope for--no surprises, just solid, satisfying fare. We lucked into something special during our stay, landing right in the middle of a migration path. One morning alone brought the sights and sounds of over 25 bird species--nature putting on a full show. All told, it's a fantastic place to boondock. We enjoyed it enough to tack on an extra night, which says plenty. Here's hoping the rest of our adventures measure
