I came here for dinner on Saturday night. It's part of Wintergreen Resort and has beautiful views of the golf course and the mountains. To start, we had fried oysters. I thought it was good, but not amazing. For my main, I got the cast iron with seared tuna and shrimp and for my two sides, I got mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. It was quite good. The portion was solid, but the blackening seasoning on the tuna was a little too salty and the shrimp wasn't too flavorful but the red chimichurri sauce helped cut the saltiness and add flavor at the same time. This beautiful restaurant is located in the wintergreen resort area. I went in for dinner, and despite the website saying a reservation was required, I was seated promptly. The good? Our waitress was great, very fast, attentive, and friendly. Unfortunately, that's about all I can say. I got a fried oyster appetizer. These were good, if a little greasy. For my main, I went with a NY Strip steak with a side of mushrooms and vegetable kabob. I had asked for the steak to be rare. It was more on the side of medium well, and pushing well. I can handle that, but it was also surprisingly bland. I had to add salt and pepper just to eat it. How do you strip a steak of flavour? The mushrooms were salty, and mostly breading over cheap buttons. Chewy and bleh. The vegetable kabob was singular. Literally two mushrooms, a bit of bell pepper, and an onion, maybe six pieces. But, hey, I got my vegetable for the day, right? Also, honestly, it was not an inexpensive dinner. Even ignoring pricing, it wasn't good. Ambiance and service? Great. Food? No, thank you. read more

Unfortunately Iron and Ale missed the mark for me. I expected this to be more brunch vibes, but it was more like a clubhouse restaurant. Service was great, staff were welcoming and helpful, just that the menu missed the mark for me. I settled on the tatter tots tops with pulled pork. It came out, the presentation was amazing. 6 Very large house made tots with a small scoop of pulled pork on each one. The issue was that, the tots were either made way early in the morning or the day prior. I typically don't send food back, but I really couldn't eat it. They were hard and inedible. The server thought they were overcooked, but I think many people know an old tatter tot when they have one. So I sent it back and got the Cajun lemon pepper wings and it completely redeemed my trust in the kitchen. My husband had a chicken sand-which and in his words it tasted like a frozen breast that was cooked in the microwave and made as a sand-which thereafter. He said it didn't have much flavor either. I think referring to the options we had as a brunch menu should be reevaluated. Other than that the views of the golf course were amazing while we ate our lunch. The Brussels sprouts were perfect, the fries great, the waitress very capable and friendly. But the roast beef sandwich was just above lousy. They clearly are using something like "Steakums" for the meat. Very disappointing. We will be back but we sure won't order the roast beef sandwich. read more

Whether for a glass of wine, a beer or a cocktail waiting for your golfers, this is a nice 9th hole. We've also polished off the day with a great meal here. Beautiful scenery as well. We were disappointed that 3 different beers were not available despite being on the menu but our server was quick to offer substitution suggestions! read more

This review is coming from me being there three times, I have a buddy that enjoys the sides/drinks from iron, so I always end up stopping there with them most of the time! I got two entrees from here before and should've stopped at the first, First I got Chicken Tenders which looked burnt and tasted like the chicken was sitting for a week unopened. second time I went, I wanted to give another chance and try the seafood but nope, received a Salmon filet that was overcooked and had 4-5 bones in it from someone not cutting the salmon right. I tried to get a refund for the salmon, but I can tell the owners were drunk so I didn't even bother, I constantly saw the owner's wife keep sneaking solo cups of who knows what and drinking it behind the bar so just everything about this place is wild. I know a licensee in the Nellyford County, so I hope they changed for the better! read more

Just came here for dinner and it was awesome! We told the waitress we were quick on time and they were so nice accommodating us! We tried the ahi tuna and pretzel bite appetizers, and then we ordered the tequila mango chicken, the flat iron steak, the salmon, and one of the burgers. The food there was awesome, and the ambiance was great! read more

Big fan of iron and ale! I only had apps and desserts at the bar, and all were wonderful. Favorite appetizer was the potato skins and favorite dessert was bread pudding on special! Service was excellent. Gorgeous decor. I'll be back! read more

The menu has lots of options. Homemade Tater Tots are not much potato. Mostly filler and some onion. Tasted more like a hushpuppy. Chicken dish was just ok. Not great. Stopped for lunch with a friend. Handicapped accessible spots close to entrance. Regular parking a small hike away Ambiance...nice views of golf course. Bar small with locals frequenting. This includes mostly middle-aged and senior citizen men. Service fair. I ordered a salad with blackened chicken...the chicken wasn't blackened. Nice place to meet a friend for a simple meal with nice outdoor scenery...do not expect anything special regarding food or service. read more

As a plant based eater, I wasn't blown away by the options at Iron and Ale. I ordered the pomodoro pasta and a side garden salad. The pasta was good, a hearty serving with a tasty sauce but I came here to rave about their side garden salad. If I had known how good it was, I wouldn't have bothered with the pasta at all. It was easily twice as big as most "side" salads and beautifully filled with lots of veggies: a delightful surprise! read more

Very disappointed. My daughter & I ordered bagel platters, my husband ordered a breakfast platter. It was obvious the eggs were powdered, and tasteless. My bagel platter was not as described, but I was hungry. My daughter's platter was supposed to come with eggs, which we had to ask for. By the time they came, we were ready to leave. We complained to the waitress, so they gave us 20% off. read more

I went to Iron and Ale today to check it out. There were 3 people there including me and my wife. I was talking to THE (only) other guy at the bar, and the manager -Tabitha- came up and interrupted our conversation- we were deep in it- and asked the person I was speaking to if he was ready to leave. Not wanting to lose his train of thought he continues speaking to me and held up his hand to say "not yet". I was meeting a new friend and he might have another so we kept talking. When my new friend asked for his bill he was told by the bar tender (Tabitha) "dont you ever silence me again- I am the manager." On my way out I told the person at the front we will not be back.... We will never go there again if this is how the leadership of this organization allows their team members to behave, much less their managers, in a service business. I was so looking forward to a new great place to go do food in the rockfish valley. We have been by there for months in anticipation of their opening.... This is no way for a business to treat their patrons. When that happened, we were done and left, in solidarity for our new friend. I am 60 years old and lived everywhere. I have led people for 30+ years. Never have I seen such a poor display of a manager. She obviously has no understanding of how to behave. And for that Iron and Ale at Wintergreen management should be accountable. We will not be back. read more

I had the pram-crusted fillet. It was absolutely amazing! 10/10 recommend! It was a bit noisey inside but the staff was very friendly.

We arrived on time for our reservation and were told there would be 15-20 minute wait plus the bar was full so we could not even get a drink. Great to see the crowd but just setting expectations. Fortunately it only took 5 min. Hurray for reservations! Initial service was great, but boy it took a while to get our food. At least 45 min. But hey, there are plenty of seats at the bar now. Food got here after 50 min. Looks great but wish we had utensils. Food was really good. Worth the wait all around. BLUF is I&A is a great addition to the area where finding staff is difficult. This is a new restaurant, still in the soft opening phase due to need to hire staff. The mother ship is in Lynchburg. Food is excellent, venue fresh and contemporary with great views of the mountains and golf course. Prices are very fair for the quality you get! read more
