The course looks alright and appeared to have some good hilly elevation for a Florida course. The only problem is the people who work in there are liars, cheats, and have no respect for your money. I stayed on the course in an air bnb for vacation and had a Florida friend drive up for a round. We get to the pro shop around 2pm on a Tuesday. The clouds were rolling in and we knew that. Just figured we'd try our luck. They tell us from the get go no rain checks and if we decide to go out there will be no rain checks. Fair enough. We asked them ok, then can we wait it out? They said YES. So we figured we could always wait it out if we get rained on as they said. We race out there and can't even find hole one and instead start on hole 4. Play hole 4 and get to 5 and it starts pouring. We wait it out a good 30-45 min and roll on thru to hole 6/7 and they ride out telling us we have to get off the course as they're closing. I'm pissed. Get back to club house and that rude manager states it's not worth it to keep the course open for just us as we're the only ones on the course. So still no rain check. No apologies. Nothing. These fools should've just told us no, course is closed as it's going to rain. No rain checks, fine. But don't lie to us and be an a**hole about it. If he never told us we could wait it out, we would've never paid the $49/person. Stay far far away from this course as long as these clowns work there. These guys will rob you! read more

Make sure you get there early if you need to rent clubs. We got there for a 1 PM tee time and the only clubs left were old Cobra's with stiff shafts. The course is gorgeous. Lots and lots of sand and pin placements were a bit too challenging for an 18 handicap. Would love to play this course with my own clubs or a better set of rentals. read more

Good course. Nice track. Interesting. It was a little hard to tell exactly what the course is all about because it rained hard the night before. But they are iron fisted in not allowing even water brought from home. So here we are, playing Central Florida golf in July and you must wait for the cart girl. We saw her maybe twice. She even looked through our cart to make sure we didn't have any "illegal" drinks. She was subtle, but that was clearly what she was doing. The starter said the cart girl would "kill me" if he let me tee off with a few water bottles in the cart. Really? The cart girl has that kind of pull? Absurd. So low class. So Polk County. If that $0.47 the course makes with each bottle of water is SO important, raise the greens fees. Don't insult me and treat me like a child by saying I cannot bring even water. BTW, I take some prescription meds and have to stay well hydrated. It's not like I wanted to bring a case of beer onto the course. read more

Loved this corse. Beautiful outdoor patio overlooking 18th hole with fire puts and good lunch food. Course was in perfect condition. Friendly staff all anxious to please. Check in was quick. Water and bathrooms provided and convenient. Lived up to Troon course expectations. Would play again. If u miss Fairway though, give up on ball. Desert surround so snakes. Saw lots of roadrunner. Gorgeous sunrise too. Great experience for resort golf. Greens tough with little to no fringe resistance. read more

If I could give this a zero rating, I would. The service we received at this restaurant was horrible. There were bugs in the drinks, even after being made a second time. Our food came out incorrect and it tasted horrible. There were feathers on the chicken wings, the broccoli tasted horrible, the food came out cold, I could go on-and-on about the horrible experience we had, but the main thing was the customer service and unfriendliness, rudeness of the staff, especially the manager, Carlee. I sent a message to her manager Jessica Cloutier, that she claimed she spoke to while we were there and she informed her not to accommodate us and/or refund our meal after it was voluntarily suggested by another waitress Samantha. I also emailed the office manager and other managers listed on their website because this was not acceptable nor do I want anyone else to experience what we had to endure. I WOULD NOT recommend this restaurant based on our experience. They obviously need customer service training and better cooks. read more

As everyone has said, it is a wonderful and challenging course and always well maintained. Greens were reworked with Champions Bermuda last summer and are undoubtedly the best around, very fast and true. It is a hidden central Florida gem. If you are in the Orlando area on a golf-trek, do not miss this one. Stay for dinner at the Club Rest. if it's a Friday or Saturday, there is usually a steak special but all the food is good. Very disappointed not up to it's reputation! Pace of play was very bad. Hit the ball and wait all 18 holes. Over 5 hours to play a round. No ranger and when the group ahead of us called the pro shop no one addressed the slow group. Another group was blasting music that was very loud even three holes away. The winter rye was dying and the fairways were all tight lies. Greens were hard and you could not get a ball that landed on the greens to stay on the green. This often results in your ball rolling off the green into a sand trap. You had to chip off the green and hope the ball rolled onto the green to keep your chips on the green. I will not play this top price course again if conditions do not change and if they don't have a ranger. read more

Overpriced for the horrible service. Rude, crude, racist and unprofessional. Actually put her hands on my belongings going through them like I didn't belong. Inappropriate at any time but especially during COVID. Luckily I was very mature and did not follow my first mind. The starter John saw the incident and made no comment. He was wittingly complicit in the entire incident. I also will never return and urge all golfers to seek better accommodations. Do not go there unless you are ready to be accosted and have your day ruined by this rude behavior. She is the one who does belong. This review is for the golf course only, with some additional commentary. This golf course is really exceptional. Played it for the second time last week, and it was just as fun as I remembered. The dunes are everywhere! Add some wind, rain and cold and you'd be in Scotland. However, it's fairly wide, so it can be forgiving, only if you can manage to stay out of the bunkers. The condition has always been good, all aspects of the course are well maintained. They do reduced rates after 1pm, then further reduced after 3pm. Rental clubs are nice and in great condition. Staff is international and very helpful. The sandwiches "to-go" at the clubhouse were surprisingly pretty good, but the chips were stale. Beer cart girl didn't come round as often as she should've but oh well. Now the negatives..this place is in the middle of NO WHERE. The menu at the club house is traditional crap: fried appetizers, club sandwiches, burgers and domestic beer in cans or bottles. The houses for rent here are very dated with very small pools. Other restaurants in this area, fast food crap. Generally, just lacking in amenities. Golf here, then get out of this area without looking back. read more

I have to agree with Lynda! This course was great! I played it during the vacation portion of my honeymoon. It was in '99 and Hurricane Floyd decided to come in and wreak havoc on the Orlando area. Disney shut down everything except the Animal Kingdom (this was the first time Disney had ever shut down their parks). So my father-in-law (I said this was the vacation part of it...) makes a couple phone calls, throws our clubs in the back of the rented Sebring convertible, and we show up to Southern Dunes. We had a great round, although, I too found at least 100/183 bunkers. But that was because the winds were tricky, and the moon was out of alignment, and, and... Okay, but I quickly learned how to properly use my sand wedge! If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely be going back! Good time!!! read more

The course is in good shape, it's a little pricey at $90 a person and the cart boys as well as the ranger needs not to chastise people for playing at a slower pace while not holding anyone up. Completely uncalled for after a nice day of golf. read more

We stayed at Southern Dunes Golf Club and it was great, the condo's were very well built and had lots of space. It was a very nice place to stay in for a week!! But the only thing that i didn't like about Southern Dunes was when we had taken a trip over to the playground area, the entire thing, yes the entire playground area was infested with ants, the wood was just rotting away. But, other than that interesting feature. This might just be the place for you! I know that i will return in the future! read more

Southern Dunes Golf & Country Club is as good as it gets. The golf course is really nice. I played there recently and the greens were near perfect. They were beautiful and rolling really smooth. Their practice putting green is one of the best in Orlando. If you want to practice on amazing greens and feel what it's like to play on tour-like conditions, this putting green is where it's at. The driving range is nice too. Good balls, always hitting off real grass. The golf shop is nice and all the professionals are very knowledgeable. The 19th hole is solid and the entire clubhouse is top notch, but the golf course is really why you should go. It's one of the best golf courses in the Central Florida area and I recommend it to any golfer that is looking for a super nice course that is challenging. read more

Me and my foursome have visited this course every year for the past 15 years. It was a diamond in the rough until two years ago. NOW, the fairways are cut very tight and the greens are not worth trying to read as they are all chopped up. The pro shop staff is not friendly at all. I was never asked if I needed help when looking at pro shop items. The pro shop staff parks themselves behind the desk and waits for you to ask a question. Customer service is not in their DNA. With that said, the restaurant at the course is always consistently on par. Lupe, the waitress, is especially spectacular! Sorry to say my 15 year run has ended. The manager of this course needs to recognize what is transpiring. Leadership starts at the top. Someone is not doing their job or, they are just complacent. Fix the greens, allow the fairways to be a bit more plush, and work on the disposition of the pro shop staff. The word is out that you are failing. Maybe you are just relying on your previous reputation. If you are good luck!!! read more

February 4, 2018. Simply on of the best public courses in Florida. Greens running 10-11 on Stimpmeter. Putt well, very large and undulating. Tee boxes and fairways in outstanding condition. Tee to green, fairly wide, but fairway bunkers are deep. Areas around the green are tough- many greens raised 2-3 feet above level of fairway. Bunkers are immaculate, and numerous. Played 5 rounds in 5 days here. Played in afternoon and paid $69- a bargain for this quality of golf course. read more

Great course, a little pricey! $109 on a Wednesday? The greens are in great shape and will challenge your putting. The greens are verrrrry fast and have a lot of undulation. The fairways are good shape, they have been over seeded. The staff will go out of their way to help you. The only aspect of my golfing experience I believe could have been better was the on cart GPS. The units only give yardage to the front and back of the green. I prefer GPS units that give you distance to bunkers, water, hazard... I will definitely play another round here soon. read more

Played the course at the end of July, with a mixed day of weather it was a beautiful and challenging 18 holes for me. Great value 18 holes, club hire and buggy $60. The staff in the bar at the end of a very long day for them were exceptionally helpful with helping me get back to my villa, to the extent of giving me a lift home. Maybe it was that I went in with too high of expectations. Maybe the course just didn't live up to my memories...but for some reason I was not overly impressed. I had played this course back in 1994 soon after it opened. I remembered it being one of my favorite courses that I had EVER played. When you add all of the awards and accolades that it has received I was expecting something great. Well...it just didn't live up to my expectations. For $119 I expected better customer service and a little more of a country club atmosphere instead of a muni course atmosphere. The course itself is a fun and interesting layout...but when I played it the greens had bare dirt spots. Maybe if I had gone in with lower expectations...or if they hadn't charged so much I would have given them 4 stars, but because of the "muni" feel I don't think I would ever give them 5 stars. read more

As a PGA Tour caddie, I'm given perks that I never ever take for granted and I'm very appreciative of these perks. One of them is that I get to play golf courses at either a discounted rate, just a cart fee or at a comp'd (free) rate. When I go to a course hoping to play, I'm always prepared for any and all of these rates. I went into the Pro Shop and showed them my tour caddie credentials and they allowed me to play for the PGA Golf professional rate plus a cart fee which came to $65. This was a little more than I expected to pay but the course looked really nice from the street as I was driving up to the course. Unfortunately, the course didn't live up to my expectations. The greens were some of the worst I've ever played on! The "members" that I was paired up with were constantly apologizing for the conditions. Afterwards, the outside service personnel asked me how I enjoyed the course. Before I could even get a word out, he started apologizing for the condition of the greens also! He said that for the last 2 years, that's all he's heard about. I feel that the pro shop personnel should've been forthright and told me about the conditions before taking my greens and cart fee. I can not in good conscience recommend this golf course to any golfer of any skill level! read more

Great layout, greens in nice shape and a good speed, however there were putts that broke over 20 feet, too crazy for our group. The starter gives you a long talk and a printed note that they will not tolerate slow play , after nine hole we commented to the starter that play was very slow 2 1/2 hrs, he shrugged us off and said we allow 4 1/2 hr round, needless to say it took us five painful hours.
