A reasonably priced hotel with a friendly welcome and a good breakfast. It is quite old fashioned, as you might expect for a seaside B&B. It is off the main street in Gt Yarmouth, so close enough to get to everything, but far enough away for it to be quiet. If you have a drink in the bar, it feels like you are sat in someone's living room!! read more
The Southern is a 4* Guest Accommodation with 20 bedrooms all tastefully decorated with guests comfort in mind. The property is over 200 years old and therefore retains its character. If you want somewhere to stay that is impersonal and has no character this is not the place for you. As one guest complained in a review we have two taps on some of our sinks and we have the odd squeaky stair !! All our food is locally sourced and home cooked and for the early starters we do a breakfast to go which will be ready for you no matter what time you have to leave.
History
Established in 1920.
The Southern was once a Merchants House and has been guest accommodation for years the earliest information I have is it was bought at auction in 1947 for £1350 !! We purchased it in 2002 for a lot more! Since we moved in we have done a complete refurbishment and like the Forth Bridge we continue decorating every year
Meet the Business Owner: Sally J.
An accountant most of my working life, until we bought our first premises 20 years ago. The Southern is our second place as the first was smaller aand we needed more rooms. I am a very young great grandmother !!
