The gajar is a blend of carrots slow cooked into water and milk, it's nice and light. Would recommend, better than some of the already tasty Indian buffets in the immediate area!

The interior is very spacious and welcoming, with a lot of tables inside. One of my favorite Indian dishes is Chicken Tandoori. The description for this dish at Sattva read: chicken legs (with bones) marinated with yogurt and Indian spices. I've had this dish before at other restaurants so I had an idea of what to expect. I ordered the Chicken Tandoori online and it was ready for pickup when I arrived. The employee behind the counter was very friendly. The one thing I don't like is that they don't offer meal combos for dinner, only for lunch, therefore you have to add rice or sides if you want something to accompany your entree. The chicken tandoori was $16.99, which I thought was a fair price for the amount of chicken that I got. I also ordered a side of plain rice for $1.99. The chicken tandoori was good, but not the best I've ever had. First of all, I had selected "mild" but it was definitely a bit too spicy. The chicken was tender enough and the flavoring was good but different from other chicken tandooris that I've had. I would consider returning to try their lunch combos, as they seem to be a good deal.

The interior actually looks really nice. Clean, modern, good layout, good lighting... it feels like a place that should be delivering quality food. Then I ordered the Tandoori Chicken "Panini Sandwich". First of all... $15 for a sandwich like that is wild. And if you're going to charge $15, the food better be memorable in a good way. This was memorable in the worst way. The flavor was just off. The chicken didn't taste like tandoori should. It didn't have that smoky, spiced kick you expect -- it tasted bland and kind of weird, like the seasoning didn't know what it wanted to be. The whole sandwich felt thrown together, and the "panini" part didn't add anything except disappointment. And what really got me was the value. No fries. No chips. Nothing on the side. Just a sandwich. For $15. During lunch hours. That's crazy. For that same price, I can go to Curry Hut, Curry Time, or other grab-and-go Indian spots and get a full combo plate that actually fills you up and tastes like Indian food is supposed to taste. This wasn't even in the same league. This wasn't a "maybe I ordered the wrong thing" situation. This was a "how did this make it onto the menu" situation. I hate leaving negative reviews because I understand how hard it is to run a small business, and I'm not here to tear anyone down. But the food needs a serious reality check. The presentation and the space are great -- but the kitchen needs to match that same standard. If the owner sees this, I'd honestly love to talk. Feel free to reach out. And for anyone reading this: you know I don't throw out 1-star reviews like that. The only reason this isn't a 1 is because I genuinely don't want to hurt a small business. But this experience was not good.

This was easily one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. We ordered Chicken Chettinad and parotta. The chicken took 40 MINUTES to arrive. And when it finally came, it was already lukewarm. The parotta never arrived at all. After waiting another 10 minutes, I had to physically go and ask the staff why it still hadn't been served. By this point, the chicken was completely cold. But the food was honestly the least of the problems. The attitude of the staff was absolutely unacceptable. We had a baby with us who was hungry and starving, and instead of showing even a little understanding or empathy, the staff were incredibly rude. When I went to ask why the parotta hadn't been served, I was met with these responses: * One server said, "I don't have 4 hands." * Another told me, "You can cancel and go away." * Another said, "I don't have any control over the kitchen." Imagine speaking to a customer this way -- especially when they have a hungry baby sitting at the table. When I finally asked them to cancel the order, rather than apologizing, offering an alternative, or trying to resolve the situation, they simply shouted at us and took the food away from our table. There was zero apology, zero empathy, zero effort to fix the situation. Restaurants can have a busy kitchen. Orders can get delayed. Food can sometimes come out cold. What is completely unacceptable is treating customers with this level of disrespect. We came here expecting a nice meal and left feeling completely humiliated and frustrated. South Spice -- this is not how you treat paying customers. If you're looking for good food and basic customer service, I would strongly recommend going somewhere else. There are plenty of restaurants that deserve your money more than this place. read more

It is with some disappointment that I must comment on the diminishing quality and service at Southern Spice, which used to be a favorite Indian restaurant of mine. During a recent experience, I ordered Chana Masala and a dosa through their website for delivery, only to discover that the dosa was missing from my order. I tried to resolve the issue by calling the restaurant, but the phone continued to ring without the option to leave a voicemail. In addition, my attempt to reach out via email went unanswered. Two days later, when I finally managed to speak with someone, I requested that they deliver the missing dosa, yet they informed me that this was not possible and offered only a refund. This interaction has unfortunately altered my view of the restaurant, leading me to remove it from my list of preferred dining options. Furthermore, I've noticed a downward trend in the quality of the food, leading me to suspect that there might have been changes in the kitchen staff. read more

I had a terrible experience at Southern Spice in Irvine and would never go back. The food came out at completely different times, so no one at our table ate together. My sister has severe allergies to nuts and eggs, and despite us telling the staff, the server kept carelessly throwing all the dishes down in front of her without concern. To make matters worse, I found a hair in my tandoori. When I pointed it out, instead of apologizing or offering to make it right, the staff was extremely rude and even told me I was "stupid" for thinking there was a hair in my dish. No refund, no apology, nothing. Later, my sister had an allergic reaction after leaving the restaurant, which makes me question how seriously they take allergy concerns. Overall, the service was unprofessional, the staff was disrespectful, and the food was not safe. I absolutely would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

I am so blown away by the depth of flavor that I get from these dishes. The husband and I walked in loving the vibes that it gives off. You can tell that there was a lot of thought put into every detail. The tables with the swinging benches make the restaurant so unique and it is just fun to sit on. There were four of us and we had a ton of food! Prawn Mango Curry - this is so yummy if you like a slightly sweet flavor! If you're familiar with Thai food you'll get some Thai vibes from this entree Chettinad Chicken Pepper Fry Chicken Dosa Garlic Naan Parotta Butter Chicken Gobi Kempu Bezule - this is a must order item - I never knew cauliflower can taste so flavorful! I am sure we are forgetting something! Be sure to get some of that mango lassi so you can cool your mouth down from all the spice and reset your palette to keep on eating! :) Happy to find a new go-to Indian spot for us! read more

The food is not bad but the online orders process is horrible. Tried the breakfast for Mother's Day , got a confirmation for online order. When I arrived the restaurant at the specified time they were prepping for lunch buffet. When I asked for my order , the owner looked so surprised as if I was an alien from another planet and wanted to kikc me out as soon as possible. I showed him the order and told him it is for mother's day and can't miss it. He was oblivious and said I will refund the money. I told him it was not about the refund it was about the timing and promise you guys made. If you can't keep an eye on online orders please discontinue them and stop sending sms or emails confirming it. Beware this is not the first time they have done it and looks like a repeated beahviour. I will never eat or order from here. (In addition to it the food is super expensive) read more

Really strange experience. The place was new so I thought I would try it out during lunch hour. I walked in and all the employees were seated at the tables having lunch at the same time. Nobody got up to help me or offer to wait on me. They gave me the feeling I was just bothering them just for being a customer. It was like being an unwelcome guest at somebody else's dinner. I asked a seated employee and picked up a menu and sat down. Nobody got up or looked my way for a good while so I got up and left. With so much competition at that shopping centre I don't know how they hope to stay in business. I've never seen a business doing something like that. read more

The restaurant was extremely busy. The wait staff was trying to keep up with cleanliness. The quality of the food was decent. The biryani was good, but the two mild vegetarian curries we ordered were unexpectedly semi-sweet. The takeout packaging consisted of plastic and styrofoam, which isn't ideal for hot food. I love the ambience; great food, they have varieties of food to offer, Gives you an experience of how the food tastes in India. The Naan was fresh, pillowy, and tasty enough to eat on its own. The Chicken 65 was prepared with the exact right amount of spice--perfectly balanced and making me wonder what happened to chickens 1 through 64. The Dahl was fantastic, but the absolute showstopper was the Biryani. Take it from someone who has spent time working in Hyderabad: this is the real deal, highly reminiscent of the city's absolute finest. We finished things off with the Shahi Tukda, which was so incredibly rich and tasty it probably needs its own tax bracket. Beyond the food, the logistics are a breeze. It's right off El Toro Road with ample parking (a true Southern California miracle). They also offer catering if you want to be the hero of your next event. We didn't get to try the lunch special this time, but it's an incredible value--two entrees, rice, naan, and a drink, neatly sidestepping the usual buffet trough. Bottom line: Go here. I am a senior and I have hypertension. High blood pressure. I love your food but in the last month it has been come saltier and saltier. Did you change your chef or recipe? Your salt was lower two months ago and it was good for me because I am old. Can you reduce the salt? I tasted my wife's korma and tikka masala and it was not as salty. But mine was too much.
