If you're heading to a Buffalo Sabres game, Southern Tier Brewing Company is the perfect place to stop beforehand. It's literally just steps away from the KeyBank Center, making it an ideal pre-game spot. The beer selection is excellent, with tons of options to choose from. My favourite was the Raspberry Wheat, it was super refreshing and packed with flavour. The ladies behind the bar were also kind enough to let me try a couple of different samples before I made my decision, which is always appreciated. For food, I ordered the Blackened Chicken Sandwich. To be honest, it wasn't quite the style of blackened chicken I'm used to. It felt more like grilled chicken with Cajun seasoning than a true blackened preparation. That said, it was still a very enjoyable sandwich. The chicken was juicy, full of flavour, and not dry at all, and the bacon was cooked exactly the way I like it. The fries were nicely seasoned and paired perfectly with the meal. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere with plenty of seating and lots of TVs, including some absolutely massive screens, making it a great place to catch other games while enjoying a beer. Great beer, good food, friendly service, and an unbeatable location for Sabres fans. I'll definitely be back! The interior is impressive and I like the LEDs built into the bar tops. They ask how you want your burger cooked, and most brewpubs don't bother. First time I've eaten here even though I occasionally go to the arena for events in the evening. After visiting Explore & More children's museum downtown on a Friday we (six adults and one almost two year-old) went here for lunch. Luckily they were open (they're closed for lunch on Monday- Wednesday). Everything was surprisingly good. I say surprisingly because sometimes brewery restaurants don't have the best food. First things first - I forgot how delicious the house dressing is. Oh my gosh - so good. I'd eat cardboard if it was dressed with that tangy, garlicky dressing! I had some time to myself recently and I found a seat at the bar upstairs, amongst 100 or so of my new friends. Pumking Imperial Ale: Although I've become less of a beer guy since my college days, I couldn't resist the urge to pick this up. Even though I find them to be real hit or miss, I like to try at least one new pumpkin beer each fall and though it has been a few years, Southern Tier's Pumking is my reigning champ. The artwork on the bottle shows a cool illustration of a pumped-up pumpkin king cackling as he shows off his guns in a sleeveless royal garb with an eye-catching pumpkin orange colored background. My bottle poured a slightly hazy deep copper color. Pumking's aroma is described by Southern Tier as a combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, allspice, vanilla, and buttery crust. As Southern Tier likes to say, it's essentially pumpkin pie in a glass! I wouldn't go that far, but in the land of pumpkin beers, it is good enough to be king in my opinion. I detect pumpkin the most in the aftertaste, but it's pleasant and not burning/too spicy. There's also a nice combination of vanilla and cinnamon that help contribute to the illusion of pumpkin pie. It's sweet (for a beer) and not overly bitter with an IBU of 28. Being an imperial ale, it's a bit BOOzy at 8.6%ABV, but the aforementioned flavors mask it well. Is a quiet Friday evening in the city, the perfect time to visit Southern Tier? Yes! This place is always busy during bandits/sabres game so it was pretty nice going there when downtown was a little quiet. We were seated immediately and within moments our waitress was there to take our drink and food requests. She was extremely helpful and welcoming during our visit. The misses got the beef on weck, a good sized portion and I was told the beef was "ok" so I'm interpreting that as "average ". The horseradish though was definitely on the mild side but I'm sure that changes each day. The little yelper opted for her go to which was the kids chicken fingers and fries. She gave them two thumbs up, they were a good size and super crispy. I opted for the buf burger. It came and I was questioning how to bite it, but it only appeared that way because of the giant onion ring on it. I was told it's a "smash burger" and couldn't be cooked to temp / I prefer medium ( it was kind of dry for my liking). But definitely wasn't as spicy as I was hoping for based on the description. Cool place a block away from key bank center. We went here before a hockey game and it was packed. Place is huge with two levels and a bunch of TV's and a gigantic tv behind the bar. Honestly, I'd give it 5 stars for the creme brulee stout alone. So yummy. My husband and I shared a flight last week before the Sabres win. I also tried the hazelnut stout, which was great, and Old Man Winter which wasn't bad but tasted like early fall to me. My husband was less happy with his apple and pomegranate ciders. He was very happy with his wings, however. They were perfect. I overdid it with carbs. The giant pretzel and loaded cheese fries were yummy, but the beer cheese wasn't my favorite. It was good, just not great. Service is excellent. We arrived before our reservation, but they were able to seat us right away. What a great dining and drink experience before the Bandits clinched the 3peat! We only waited about 20 minutes for a table and got drinks at the bar while we waiting. I had a Bold Rock Hard pineapple cider, it was crisp and refreshing. Once seated and ordered we waited about 15-20 mins for the food. We ordered the cobb salad and island tacos, it was the perfect amount of food for two people, nothing too heavy. The waitress was wonderful and went above and beyond for us as our party forgot a jacket at the table. She placed it behind the hostess stand and we were able to retrieve it after the game. On St. Patrick's Day 2024, Southern Tier Brewery Buffalo was a wonderful spot to wind down the day with some excellent drinks, tasty food, and great customer service! After catching an afternoon show at Shea's, family and I were going to brave the crowds along Chippewa St. to experience St. Patrick's Day in downtown Buffalo, but upon approach we saw how busy (crazy) it was and so we nope'd out of there. We walked to another Buffalo-cal brewery and enjoyed a flight and an appetizer and had a great time, but we decided to hit up one more bar/restaurant before calling it a night. We walked in around 5:30pm on Sunday and were easily able to get a table and started off with some waters and their new Perry's ice cream collab-beer-ation on draft, Orange Twist. There were plenty of TVs going with several different sports and music playing over speakers but we never felt it was too loud and we were able to enjoy casual conversation. It helped too that the crowd in there was way smaller than I have ever seen it. Our waitress was wonderful, incredibly personable, and did a great job checking on us and ensuring we were taken care of. I wish I would have taken her name, good customer service deserves to be shouted out! For dinner, I ordered the Short Rib Grilled Cheese with a side of fries along with a specialty cocktail that was called something like Pumking White Russian. Everything was phenomenal! The white cheddar and American cheese were perfectly melted and tasted with the short rib, while the candied jalapenos and tomato preserves added some heat and extra flavor, all sandwiched between two buttery, toasted slices of rye bread. The fries were cooked nicely and a great compliment to this handheld. The Pumking White Russian was so good! Nice and creamy with the right level of alcohol thanks to their The King Abides Crème Liqueur. We ended up ordering another cocktail and closed the place down. Food prices were pretty in-line to the quality and quantity we received, so we were satisfied. We made sure to be out before they officially closed but we never felt pressured. Southern Tier Brewery Buffalo is such a good, fun spot! The few times I have come in, I always have a good experience. I love that I can find several beers on their draft list (and in-stores) that I have no problem ordering and their food menu pairs nicely. I cannot wait to come back again for another pint or two, maybe order myself a Pumking White Russian! read more

We've always been a fan of their beers and I've been to the original Brewery location but never here. The bartender was great and the variety of beers were vast and tasty.
