Had a lot of fun horseback riding, celebrating my friend's birthday! We all signed waivers online and it didn't take long for us to get seated on the horses. We got instructions on how to command the horses to go forward, turn, and stop. I was a bit worried about my horse, Sunny, because he kept flicking his head around everywhere but for the most part, he stayed on the trail and I felt safe even when he went through the waters. Going through the trail took about an hour and it was so relaxing! The weather was also great. Not too hot but I recommend bringing a hat.

Kate and her team were such excellent guides!!! The horses were awesome! As someone who's never ridden one, they were very clear in their instructions and were able to partner me up with one of their more "nicer" horses, Rue Either way everyone and every horse was great, thank you!!

Went there for a friend's birthday celebration. It was a 45-min horseback riding trail. They have clear instructions (get on, what to do, stop, turn) and it was my first time horseback riding. You get to experience the nature and ride a horse through the river stream. Definitely a perfect way to kick off the fall season! At the end, you may also feed the horses with some of their food. The staff is friendly and took great pictures of us. I love their waiting lounge couch. It was open air seating and comfy. Reasonable pricing of $95. Will return!

The best place for a trail ride in the Austin area! I went for a 9:30 am ride before the heat struck. The property was beautiful and the horses were lovely. We went for an hour ride around the property. The staff was incredible and did a great job guiding everyone through the horses, even when people got scared or uncertain. The property was beautiful and the trail was very green and open. There was a decent amount of shade which was nice. Jess was an amazing guide and I loved getting to learn more the property and the horses. Will definitely be returning :)

You can't live in Texas and not go horseback riding right? This trail is about 15 minutes outside of Austin. This location is fairly new so they don't have the proper directional signage. The lack of signage may lead you to believe that you're lost or going the wrong way but if you follow the route on the GPS, you'll eventually reach the destination. They also don't have an actual restroom however, the port o potty is actually clean. The cleanest I've ever seen! The parking lot is fairly small but I don't think they offer rides large enough to fill the lot. I did the hour trailride for $95. From the open grassland to the pond and cows along the trail. It's a very peaceful ride and allows you to become one with nature. I loved it! During the ride, the guide takes pictures of you however, it doesn't really benefit if you're at the back and most shots are from the front. Would probably help to have another guide at the end to capture moments for those in the back. While you have to sign a waiver as with most activities as such, it would be helpful to offer helmets to riders, especially if you are a new rider. Considering there are some uphill and downhill climbs, having a helmet would've put me more at ease.

Such an amazing and unique experience. Cadence, the girl who rode with us and assisted us, was super sweet and a great leader. I rode the gorgeous Dolly and she was a sweetheart. They truly care about their horses and that makes me so happy. I loved the trail. Highly recommend!

Absolutely amazing experience and worth every penny. It was both my first time in Austin and trying horseback riding. Guides were friendly and helpful. All the horses were nice and I was paired with a gentle horse, which made me feel more comfortable. The cow cuddling experience afterward was so nice too. I loved the barn kitty that was around too. Highly recommend this place!! Absolutely would come again whenever I come back to Austin in the future! Love from Chicago!

Had the most amazing experience here! If you are deciding on a place to ride horses I would hands down choose this one. They staff was incredible and the horses were well trained, friendly, and sweet. We had a big group and they were so accommodating!! 10/10

We had an amazing time doing the "Little Dude" ride with my 5 year old yesterday! Lexi was a wonderful guide and great with children. We got to brush our horse and learn a little about horses and the personality our specific horse prior to getting on and doing the arena ride. Lexi taught us the basics of riding and saddling. It was a first time riding for my family and I, and Lexi made sure we felt comfortable throughout the experience. I would definitely recommend!

This is one of those experiences you don't realize you need to do until you do it! I did the trail in Manor/Austin, that went around a huge estate land. The horses are so well trained and make the ride fairly easy to do as someone who has never rode horses before. The day I went was with other couples so it makes for a great date activity, but I think it would be really fun to book as a group as well. Bachelorette/birthday crew anyone? We did the sunset ride so it was very peaceful and serene, and the best way to end the day. The guides were also very nice and split throughout the group so that the trail ride could go smoothly and on time.

I visited for my birthday and had such an awesome time. Our guide Jess was training two newer guides, so there were three super cool horse girls for two of us. It was a little rainy, and I expected them to cancel, but it cleared up and we were able to take the trail. The horses were really sweet and it seemed like they could take the little route in their sleep without us. I've never ridden and it was a nice first experience. They had a little waiting area that looks to be for larger groups, my group was only two and first of the day, so we just jumped right in. I liked that the ladies let me go pet the animals as soon as I got there. I think I would even have been happy just petting and talking to the horses for an hour if I got spooked of being so high up. The ride was about an hour, and we saw some cows, too! The guides offered to take pictures along the way and were chatty and fun to ride with. All around, had a good time. My only advice to those visiting is to be sure to use the restroom nearby before you arrive. There is a port-a-potty there to use, but no actual restroom as of now.

10/10 YES. It was my first time in Texas and horseback riding and Bailey was the absolute perfect guide. The service was very informative, they took the time to teach us what we needed to know for the ride, shared the horse's unique personality and even answered additional questions we had to ensure we were comfortable and prepared. They also provide sunblock if you plan on visiting during the hotter seasons :) Nothing but amazing things to say about our experience on the impressive 88 acres of land. She was able to take photos throughout so we could really enjoy everything. Bear was such a gem riding along his buddy Whiskey. Would recommend this place to anyone in a heartbeat. If we're ever back in town, definitely have to request Bailey!!

Kids had a great morning learning about and riding horses. I highly recommend Southern Trails. My kids chose to do the arena ride since they are younger (6, 7, &11). The staff were knowledgeable and worked great with my children. They were set up with everything we needed- bug spray, sunblock, water and helmets. My 7 year old daughter is already asking if she can work there. read more

We went here for Valentine's Day for a private trail ride and it was so fun! The land is beautiful & Misti (our guide/owner) did an awesome job showing us around. She's a total sweetheart & even took several photos for us! The horses were well mannered, beautiful, and rode well. I'd recommend this place for group activities/a fun weekend getaway! My family and I recently went out to Southern Trails and had such a great time. We did archery, axe throwing, and skeet shooting. None of us had ever shot a bow or gun before and the staff took the time to really show us how to properly shoot and made us feel really comfortable with it. Even my 13 year old brother handling a gun didn't make me nervous because of how well the staff instructed us in gun use and safety. I felt completely safe the whole time and we all had a ton of fun. I highly recommend this company and we will definitely be going back. read more

I was there with a group of girls and we were doing multiple activities for the day. We were doing skeet shooting and multiple members of the group were concerned about how lax they were with gun safety. The only reason I felt somewhat comfortable was because we were all timid and not experienced with the guns so we were all being very careful. They did not take time to properly show us how to handle the guns, gun placement, etc. the gun I had was way too big and I could barely reach the trigger but it did not seem like a concern to the man overseeing the group. If he was paying attention he would have told me to use the smaller gun. We had a nice time but they need to take more time helping each individual making sure they were doing it properly and safely. read more

We had a blast with the fam here at Southern Trails. Our kids were nervous first time riders but they were GREAT with the kids and gave them simple instructions that put them at ease! There were fun terrains with up hills and down hills and even areas where they teach you to trot. They even have an area were you go through shallow water (depending on if there's been rain). We had a great experience here! My son wants to come back for archery and ax throwing next time. Can't wait to come back! read more

Our family of four had a wonderful experience with Misty at Souther Trails. With a four year old our options were limited for any horseback riding or trail rides. Our family did the little dude ride (10 and under) and it was great to see the kids with the horses before just hopping on and taking off. We spent time getting our little one's horse ready and saddled and it really helped her get comfortable. She felt confident to ride, but Misty was right there leading her the whole time so we felt the kids were safe the entire time. After walking around the arena we headed out for a short trail ride. It really was a great combo for younger kids, they were asking to come back before we left the parking lot! read more

These folks were very accommodating! When I found out my niece from Florida had never been on a horse, I called and they fit us in the same day!! Our trail guide was a young lady of high school age that was very kind, sweet and patient. We had an amazing ride and were so thankful that the owners went above and beyond to get us in the same day. What an awesome experience! Took the family to Southern Trails for a horseback trail ride. The horses were so gentle and the trail ride was beautiful. I highly recommend Southern Trails. I would definitely book a trail ride again. Misty our guide was super friendly and attentive. The price was incredibly reasonable. Located just 15 minutes from downtown Austin, We ride on one of the most beautiful 120 acre ranches in all of Texas! This property is unique for it’s open green pastures, beautiful tall oak trees, and relaxing serene environment. There is also some adventure as well! We will pass by ponds, creeks and cows! It was also a shooting location for the famed western movie Lonesome Dove! We are just up the road from the Tesla factory so you can stop by and say “hi” to Elon after your ride. We loved this property so much we had to buy it and call it our home! We can’t wait to host all of our new friends who want to make a memory and connect with nature. We know you’ll love it!

History

Established in 2018.

We are passionate about providing a way for everyone to experience the fun and thrill of ranch life. Southern Trails' owner, Misti Parsley, grew up surrounded by animals and horses and has worked in this field her whole life. We had the idea to make ranch life more accessible to the average person no matter the skill level. We opened in May 2018 and have had a blast connecting and making memories with families and corporate events. Come see us for a great time!

I grew up around horses and they have been my passion every since I was little. I started riding when I was 5 years old and have shown horses and competed in all sorts of riding competitions for years! I grew up in the country surrounded by shooting and horseback riding and it was such a blast. I want everyone to be able to share the unique experience of country living through our activities such as horseback riding and skeet shooting. Come on out to the ranch! Our ride was scheduled to start at 4:00, but it got delayed with no explanation and we did not start until after 5:30. The sun had set by that time because of winter and we couldn't see any of the views. Also, we didn't do a true trail ride, they took us to the city park and we rode around there at night, it was absolutely underwhelming for what we paid. Lastly, there was this little girl who is the daughter of one of the instructors. At first she was cute and sassy, then it just got old. She spoke to the adults like she was one, telling them to "move" out of her way.

There wasn't any steering from a walking pace which honestly was a little slow for me. I enjoyed my ride but probably won't return. If you ask me the ranch should do more for their workers.

Very few crowds if you arrive right at opening time. I was happy to see there were no lines at all for the slides. They open a half hour early for season pass members; general admission is 11am. Definitely worth checking out for a day of family fun in the hot TX summer!

I did not like the portable restrooms strung though out the park, and the road could use some repairs.

I had a disappointing experience with Southern Trails horseback riding. The ride was essentially a slow, monotonous procession, where we followed one another on horses without the opportunity to ride faster or side by side. This made the ride quite boring. When we asked our guide for a trail section where we could pick up the pace and add some excitement, she seemed unhappy but eventually led us to a brief minute of faster riding. However, this was far from what we were hoping for. Moreover, I was concerned about safety, as the guide did not check the stirrups before we started. Mine were too long, and when my horse started to trot, I nearly fell off the saddle. This lack of professionalism and attention to safety is alarming. My family was visiting me in Austin for Mother's Day weekend and I wanted to take them on an authentic horseback riding experience. I've personally ridden quite a few times, and my goal was to find a company who would let us unleash the horses and do more than a trail walk. After calling several companies in New Braunfels and Gruene, I decided on Southern Trails' "Rodeo Ride," which was the perfect experience that combines a beautiful, windy and slightly hilly trail ride followed by an arena barrel riding session. We all got our horses up to a trot on several sections of the trail, and my more adventurous family members ran the horses around the barrels during the arena session. Our guides, Misty who owns the business, and Callie, who is an experienced rider, were amazing guides and taught us a lot about riding, which boosted the confidence of the less experienced in our group. Over all, this is a legitimate 5-star experience and I will definitely book with them again. Thanks, Southern Trails! read more

We loved our experience with Southern Trails! We brought our whole fam. We have two girls 12 and 9 and a boy who is 10. This time we did archery, skeet shooting, and ax throwing. Even though we didn't have much experience, the staff was very helpful and led us through everything we needed to know to look and feel like pros out there! Even our youngest daughter was confident with the bow by the time we were done and felt very accomplished after hitting the targets. So fun! The ax throwing was great, it took a bit of practice but my son hit a few bullseyes. My husband and I tried skeet shooting. The hubs is much more familiar with it than I but the instructions were great and I felt comfortable shooting. I actually hit one! They provided ear plugs which was nice. We will give the trail riding a try next time. If you're looking for something different to do with your family or friends this summer, check it out, we loved it. read more

As a beginner horseback rider, my experience exceeded all expectations! Our guide was truly exceptional, ensuring everyone felt safe and comfortable throughout the ride. The trail offered breathtaking scenery at every turn, making for an unforgettable journey. Stumbling upon a small grave site with prominent Texas figures buried there added a fascinating historical touch to the adventure. I highly recommend the Little Dude Experience for anyone considering it. It was the perfect choice for my son's 4th birthday. Our guide, Cadence, was simply phenomenal! From brushing and saddling the horses to riding in the arena and on the trail, every moment was memorable. It was worth every penny! I couldn't be happier with our experience. The horses, especially Dolly and Bob, were incredibly friendly and responsive, unlike any other horses I've encountered before. read more

My family and I were so happy we chose to go to this horseback riding facility on our vacation to New Braunfels. Callie helped us from the beginning to the end. She was polite, kind and extremely personable. The facility is beautiful and well cared for. I grew up riding horses as a child but my children have not had the same experience. They loved it. Took my 12 year old granddaughter for a archery. Misty and Callie assisted us. My granddaughter had a very nice time. She enjoyed the archery as well as the ax throwing and ninja stars. Both girls were welcoming and focused on us having a positive experience. I give them 5 stars. I had expected a little more of an archery lesson, and while they did offer guidance, it was not a formal lesson. We will go back for more fun there. read more

We had an AWESOME time riding horses in Texas! This is our second trail ride we have done with Southern Trails and is always the best experience. The horses are extremely well trained which makes you feel very confident...even for someone like me who has never rode! And our guide Kate was super friendly and really knew her stuff! My husband took me on a surprise ride for our anniversary! Best surprise I've ever gotten! We went on the sunset ride, it was PERFECT! The horses were amazing and so kind! Our guide Lacey was very knowledgeable and not only kept us safe but made us have so much fun! We will definitely be back! My husband really wants to try their skeet shooting next time we come. Awesome experience! I've gone on a lot of trail rides before and this one was my favorite. Beautiful scenery, lots of wildlife and the horses were extremely well trained! Love this place! It's only 15 minutes from downtown San Marcos and Misti, the owner, is super sweet! She paired me with the perfect horse that was very responsive and easy to control. The terrain is varied, so you get to ride in the shade as well as out in the sun. I'll definitely be back for another trail ride! read more
