My Dad and his Dad worked for Ford, wow how things have changed. This time around I decided to go with another brand and today spent two hours in the showroom trying to turn in my lease with my salesman, once they found out I wasn't buying from them again I was treated very poorly. With Ford I had to return to this exact dealership because it is my originating dealership so everything ends up on their terms. So after three hours plus driving I have accomplished nothing today other than learning to avoid this place at all costs. My Mother took her car in for an oil change. She uses a specific type of oil so she brought it in. They used her oil but after she reviewed the bill when she got home she realized they still charged her for using their oil. She went back and had difficulty getting a refund for the extra oil charge. Shortly after she realized there was something hanging down under the engine. The person who changed her oil only put 3 of the 8 screws back into the fiber shield which they have to remove to change her oil. My husband fixed it as he didn't trust them to do it after leaving it that way. They thought they could take advantage of a 88 year old woman, shame on them. Don't trust them. read more

After having warranty work done and an oil change the plastic shield under the vehicle fell off about 30 miles away from the shop. When I brought it back in to have the issue corrected, I was told that I would have to pay $150 to have it replaced and would have to wait even longer. This is not acceptable, having to rearrange my schedule for work and having to wait hours for something that should have been done correctly the first time. when expressing my concerns to the service advisor Bryce, my concerns fell on deaf ears. New car buying experience. I must be getting more experienced, age does that to you. I decided to follow my salesman from his previous location. I had purchased or leased cars from him for many years. Once you get that salesman you feel comfortable with and treats you good you want to go back. I now have a problem, Mark B. is the new sales manager. Since I trust Mark he refers me to one of his people. Now the new guy, Dave Clawson. Very helpful. Nice. Time to turn in my wife's lease car, new program, earlier than term. She's not with me. She wants a new Escape. She's not a techie so she doesn't want a lot of extras. She knows what color she wants. So Dave gets an SE model. He works out the price. Okay, I'm happy. Then Dave suggests a fully loaded version, the Titanium package. l tell him "no way", she doesn't want that and it will be too expensive. When he ran the price it was only $10.00 a month more for a Titanium package vehicle. What a beautiful vehicle. The reason it's only a few bucks more is because of the higher residual(resale) value. Now what do I do???? It would be nicer to have a fully equipped car with all the new toys. She's going to hate it....Too bad, she's getting one. Now the rest of the story, she loves it! Once she got used of the keyless auto push button start and all the Sync buttons she likes it. The only reason I didn't give this store a higher star value is because the sales area needs to be more modernized. They need the new dealership store frontage and warmer and cozy amenities (free coffee, visitor friendly appeal). read more

I had been searching for a 2013 Explorer Sport that wasn't loaded to the gills. After about 6 weeks of no luck searching dealer inventory online, I decided to stop in and talk to a sales person. I soon was helped by a very friendly and knowledgeable salesman named Roland. As I had suspected, to get what I wanted I needed to order it. No problem with that at all, Roland was awesome and had the order in the next day. 1 month later and my new beast was in! There was one mis-step by the Ford Credit lady on staff. She made a mistake on my loan paperwork that I had to return a month later to straighten out. Sales staff and service staff are great but double check all your info with the loan dept. Do not lease any Ford vehicle!!!! I have leased Fords for over 25 years and never had a problem turning the vehicle back in at lease end. Until today! A new company Ford has hired to handle their lease turn ins. This company is nothing more than a way to make money. After turning in my 36 month lease they found $250 in damage and is now charging an additional $395 for turn in fee. This vehicle was reviewed by my salesman when I first turned it in and purchased another vehicle. The salesman advised me everything was fine my turn in looked good and put me in a new vehicle only to find out I now owe $$699!! Run from Ford leasing. GM doesn't treat long time customers this way. I'm heading back to GM when my second lease comes due, a F-150, in August 2021. read more

Had my daughter go there to lease a NEW Edge. Not a month old and been in twice. 1st time was for some wiring hanging from under her dash near the brake pedal, said there was nothing they could, she argued that it was obvious that the carpet was cut short and she wanted it fixed.. finally they fixed it. Took it in today for a tail light thats fills with water when she washed the car then fogs up... the service man tells her there is nothing he can do unless its shorting out the light or is full of water when it gets there, also through in that his truck does it to! UNREAL... that makes it right because yours does it also. Will get this fixed one way or the other. Not a good way to treat people who up until now bought cars from you. read more

When I picked up the van, the van smelled like cigarette smoke, oily footprints were all over the carpeting, plus the mechanics had left French fries on the floor and other left overs from lunch. A portion of my wife's tailpipe fell off on her way to work today. She drove to Southgate Ford where we purchased the Escape. $97 for the tech to tell her she needed a new exhaust system (middle and rear sections) = $1267. She took it to Southgate Midas instead for their estimate. No diagnostic fee and out the door for $208, no need for a new exhaust system. Tailpipe replaced SAME DAY at Southgate Midas (thank you Midas for honest service for a fair price). Purchased 3 vehicles from Southgate Ford, won't be buying my next one from them. Service department multiple times has had charges 2 to 3 times higher than others and today's experience makes my mind up to not return there. read more

NOPE...... And here's why.... I was in the market for a new car. I went here about 4 times to browse the lot and get some facts on a Ford I was interested in. The 1st time, I went to browse and possibly see a sales rep. It was a Friday and they were closing as I pulled up. A salesman was leaving so I asked if they were going to be open the following day (Saturday). I assumed they were normally open on Saturdays but since it was a holiday weekend, I asked. The sales guy assured me they were going to be open and that was that. I went home and got up early the following day to head back over to their lot. I was excited to get info and go for a test drive. Boy, was I mad when I pulled up and their gates were locked. Ugh! Seriously?! They were closed. Apparently all Ford Dealers were closed. I didn't find that out until I started calling around to other dealerships while in their parking lot. Yes, it was a holiday weekend but I was told they would be open. First bad experience complete. Next bad experience....here we go.......I emailed their 'contact us' link from their website. This was a few months later as I had put my car search on hold for awhile. I was messaged back, made an appointment to go over some questions and discuss my trade-in. I met with Chip. Immediately, I felt a vibe of cockiness from him. I ignored our personality clash and tried to focus on the car itself. I asked questions, discussed my credit (which was good, btw), and asked about my trade in. I felt Chip didn't take me seriously at all. He was very aloof in his answers and had the typical car salesman personality. Then he took my current car to the port to get it appraised. He did not tell me I would be sitting there waiting for a friggin' hour. I had no idea where he drove my car to so I was just stuck twiddling my thumbs. When he finally returned, he offered me $5,000 for my trade. My car was worth $10,000. I knew I would take a hit on a trade but I expected at least $6,500 at a minimum. He also told me I would need a few grand to throw down on the new car. I was expecting to put some loot down but not several thousand dollars. I was insulted! I was also discouraged by this experience and put off buying a new car. It was depressing to be honest. However, a couple months later, I gave them another shot. They had some good incentives being advertised so I stopped in and found a completely new sales guy. This guy didn't give me a sleazy feel but he seemed totally disinterested in selling me a car. His laziness was a turn off. I left and vowed not to go back no matter how good their newspaper ads looked. And just so you know, I did buy a new Ford. I went to another dealership that wasn't as close to my house. I received $7,000 for my trade. And I only put $1,500 down. Had I went to Southgate Ford, I would have been screwed out of $2,000 for my trade and money out of my pocket for a deposit. So yeah.........NOPE! read more

Service Department. Brought my Ford F-150 in to have the power running boards repaired because they stopped retracting. Was told there was NOTHING that the mechanics could do, that the whole assembly needed to be replaced. Cost. Over $1,600. So I tell them to simply remove them all together. Which was to be about $200, but would be performed when other parts came in for a recall. Fine. In the meantime, I do some research, and find a fix on Youtube. Sprayed the joints on the running boards with Rust remover and then a lubricant. They now work flawlessly again and only cost me $30 worth of spray. So tell me Southgate Ford....HOW DO YOU JUSTIFY A REPLACEMENT COST OF $1600 WHEN SOMEONE WHO IS NOT A MECHANIC JUST FIXED IT FOR $30?!?!?! So I guess you tell your mechanics to replace everything instead of perhaps fixing the problem. My old High school Auto Mechanics instructor told me years ago, that the problem with many mechinics, is that they are no longer "repairmen", they are "replacemen". Well, Southgate Ford. Brought my 2013 Edge in for brakes on 7-12-18. After inspection it was determined that I needed front and rear brakes, along with 4 new rotors, because they couldn't be turned. Ouch! So I had no choice and had it done. I did have service coupons from the ford website for Ford/Motorcraft brakes which helped a little. I also had a $30.00 per axle rebate from the same site. I mailed the rebate in the next day. On 7-23-18, I received my rebate back with a letter telling me that I didn't qualify since the parts used were not Ford parts. I went to the dealership on 7-26-18, and spoke with the service manger, who did not know what to say except that we will make this right. I asked him if the parts were Ford/Motorcraft, he answered NO. I asked him if the rotors were Ford/Motorcraft, he again said NO. He then asked if I could bring my car back in tomorrow, and he would again put all new Ford/Motorcraft parts on my var. He also stated he would be giving me a free loaner car. This is outright FRAUD, they sold me Ford/Motorcraft parts and put an inferior product on my car. This time they got caught because of the rebate. The service manager told me this is the first time this has happened. Inferior parts will mean they will have more business. However, not from me or everyone I tell. read more

Buyer Beware! In 2013 I purchased a 2012 Ford Focus SE from the used car lot at Southgate Ford. The salesman told us that it was a Dealer car and had only been driven by one of the salesman since it drove off the new car lot. The other day my car bogged down and nearly stalled, the console read Transmission Malfunction service immediately. I called Southgate Ford Service and was told by the woman who answered that even though I only had 31,500 miles on my car it was not covered under warranty because it was over 36 months old. To add insult to injury the service woman was not only incompetent but she had a noticeable rude tone in her voice from the time she answered until her final, We can give you an estimate of how much it will cost you to get it fixed but the estimate costs $90. I hung up and called another dealership and was told immediately that it was covered under the Powertrain warranty. I went to that dealership and it was fixed that day and it was free of charge. The service woman at that dealership was pleasant to speak with and competent. While I was at the other dealership I asked about the equity I had in my car. I was absolutely shocked to find that the car had 2 previous owners and had been in 2 accidents. The Southgate Ford salesman blatantly lied to me! I would expect as much from some cheesy used car joint but I never expected a Ford Dealership would lie like that. I've contacted Ford Corporate but nothing has been done yet. I had a bad experience in the part department recently too. Southgate Ford had my VIN and sold me new lifts for my hatch. I went to an affordable place to have them installed and found that Southgate Ford had sold me the wrong lifts. The lifts had come wrapped in paper, when I drove back to the glass shop to pickup the wrong lifts and take them back to Southgate Ford I never thought to ask for the crumpled paper they were wrapped in. When I got back to Southgate Ford the parts manager walked away from the counter when he saw me set the lifts on the counter. He must have messaged the clerk on the computer because the clerk went through the same doorway the manager had just gone through. The clerk came back like 10 minutes later and said I couldn't return the $100+ lifts without the crumpled paper they came in. I had to go back to the glass shop and dig through the trash to find the paper they came in. On the paper was scribbled some part number in pen. I went back to Southgate Ford again to get my money back. I did get a refund but I very upset that I had to go there 3 times to get lifts and I still didn't have any. I asked if I could speak with the parts manager, the clerk went to get him and then came back 5 minutes later and said the manager couldn't come to the counter. I ended up having to call another dealership much farther from my house to get the correct lifts, it was well worth the drive though because they sold me the correct lifts the first time. Great place to purchase vehicle and POOR place for service. This the second new vehicle purchased at Southgate Ford in the past four years. This vehicle has been back for warranty issues five times in less than six month. I purchased a 2014 Ford Fusion and have had seat rattles, gas tank noises, and now windshield wiper failures. You would think a safety issue would get the attention of the dealer. But the issue would not jump out for them to fix so they fixed nothing. We will see if NTSHA feels the same about the issue as the Ford dealer. As a buyer you do have options ... ALL safety issues should be reported to the proper government agency. Then the car company and dealer will think twice about putting it back on the road. I would never purchase another vehicle from this dealer ... and would need to think twice about a Ford product. read more

I have had my car in for service twice since April and both times I was contacted that it was fixed and ready for pick up but when I get there to pick up my vehicle I find that it was not fixed! I ended up having my car in the shop longer than needed if they would have done the job right the first time. I normally despise car dealerships...everyone always try to get over on the females..and that is not cool. However, I must say I had a great experience with the team at Southgate Ford. It also helped that the salesman's wife worked with my mother :-). I am now leasing a Ford Fusion, which is pretty decent for a Ford car. Mr. Miller (the car dealer) was able to work out all my issues before I got to the dealership... they didn't say no to anything. Although I preferred a dark interior, he showed me the light interior only because it had the voice-activated Sync inside. One of the best inventions yet inside of a vehicle. He made sure I was taking advantage of the Ford deals at the time, which is not something all dealerships do. This location is south of Detroit, and was honestly a little distance considering all the dealerships around me. However, it was worth the trip and great customer service. read more

Terrible! The least customer service focused service department I have ever had to deal with. I have had two leased cars and nothing but problems trying to work with their service department. My 2013 had 4 or 5 recalls on it and I had to beg and change my schedule to finally be graced with an appointment. When my car was in the body shop after an accident last winter I had to make several phones and left several unanswered messages to try and find out what the status was. Yesterday the same things-- Another recall on a 2015 car, no return call and they can't fit in service on "their" recall until August 19. I'm very disappointed in the lease program through south gate ford. Not one week ago I called to discuss the process for returning/releasing my vehicle through south gate ford and asked if, as a returning lease holder I would enjoy a lower price and I was told, "absolutely yes". When I got there today to speak with someone in person I was told that there were no incentive programs for returning lease holders at this time so the price of renewing my lease will be the same price. With that information I called the dodge dealer to see what the lease price would be for a similar vehicle and it was 100 dollars cheaper for the one with leather seats and the same features that we currently have. I'll be returning my lease to the ford dealer and driving away in a new Dodge Journey. I highly recommend that anyone thinking of leasing through south gate ford look at a comparable vehicle from the dodge dealer. You'll get a better deal for sure. read more

I took my wives Flex into the service department to get the brakes worked on. They said they greased the slides and turned the rotors. I drove the car after my wife picked it up and the brake pedal almost touched the floor to stop. I took it back and they looked at it and said the fluid way bypassing the rear calipers and they needed to be replaced. That isn't possible, there is no return line on brakes, anyways, I took it to another mechanic. He replaced the master and it was fixed. He also showed my the rear rotors were not turned. So Southgate ford diagnosed the problem wrong and stole money form my wife by lying about turning the rear rotors. read more
