Before you get on the entrance ramp, there is a Rv dump, so humans, pets, and the rig can all use the facilities. Though there's no commercial spots or fast food, you're only a few minutes south of them in Cromwell and Rocky Hill. The entire rest stop is beneath Mount Higby and faces other peaks in the Hanging Hills section of the New England Scenic Trail. Though there's no trail access here, come back another time (parking off Route 66 in Meriden near Middlefield). Enjoy the foliage in Autumn. In winter and spring, as you drive north and descend Mt. Higby, keep an eye out for the waterfall off 91 after Country Club Road exit.

This place is really just too small with not enough restroom capacity and inadequate parking availability. We stopped in while travelling for a restroom break and to fill up the gas tank. Parking was the first challenge as there was not one single available parking space. Because of this, people were parking at the gas pumps which made fueling our vehicle pretty time consuming and tedious. There was a line at every pump but half the pumps were occupied by unattended vehicles so we waited about fifteen minutes just to get to a pump. After gassing up I just circled around the lot until a parking space opened up. Besides the gas pumps and restrooms there is a convenience store, a Subway restaurant and a Dunkin' Donuts shop. We were only interested in the restrooms when we entered. There was no line for the men's room which was reasonably clean and stocked. The women's restroom had a lengthy line so our quick gas and restroom stop ended up taking us well over half and hour. I appreciate the location of this service plaza right along the highway but a lot more thought should have gone into the layout, design and capacity of the facility.

Of course, they have a two hour limit for parking which makes it challenging for the RVers like me who don't want to stay in an RV park overnight. But we make do. This plaza includes Dunkin and Subway and a convenience store as well as a gas station. There is plenty of parking, even if you can't sleep here overnight. The restroom is busy and could have used some attention, but I am guessing they try as much as then can. There is plenty of seating inside and there is a wifi. I didn't try connecting to it. There is also a Starbucks directly across the street and several other stores within close proximity, like a Target and Longhorn Steakhouse about two blocks away. The interior of the hotel itself is nice enough, although some things appear a bit outdated, like the creaky elevator. I stayed on the 3rd floor and when walking down the hallway on the 3rd floor, the carpeted floor itself was extremely creaky to where you could hear me coming from all the way down the hall. The room was nice and the beds were comfortable but what I found odd was there is one master light switch which has to be flipped on, otherwise no lights will turn on in the entire room. I forgot about the master switch one night and could not figure out why the lights in the bathroom weren't turning on in the middle of the night. There is a small gym area and an indoor pool, both of which I did not use on this trip. 3/5 stars for a beautiful location with lots of trees surrounding it and a Dunkin' in the same parking lot. But the slightly outdated interior, creaky floors and unusual master light switch situation brings the rating down.

The king suite was a carbon copy of our prior room, well maintained and satisfied our needs though we were disappointed that photos of the room showed a walk-in shower while ours had a shower/tub combination. There was a light fixture in the living room that was not working so a call was placed with the front desk and a staff member arrived within 5 minutes. We did note that the pool was unavailable throughout our stay due to maintenance though we never saw anyone performing any maintenance. Having remembered the issues encounered during a prior stay at another location, we brought food that did not require an oven and our own toilet paper. The breakfast was once again quite good with a variety of choices including make your own tacos and burritos.
