The staff failed to tell me that I was seeing a PA and not the doctor when I was scheduled for the appointment. The front office staff was polite I proceeded to go ahead and stay for the appointment despite not being scheduled with a doctor. The wait time was about 5-15 mins to be taken back and to see the physician assistant, PA. However, the PA Naya Araujo seemed like she was in a rush to get the appointment over with and dismissive of my melasma, that I was being treated previously for by an actual Dr... In regards to my acne concerns she was not thorough on the treatment plan and didn't even send the prescription to the pharmacy... read more

I should have listened to yelp. I went to Southlake dermatology for a known issue and saw a PA because the derm took a month and my worthless insurance covers like 6 people in the whole metroplex. She absolutely denied that I had what I knew i had. Luckily the treatment was the same either way, but when I had to come back in she was absolutely shocked that I didn't have what she thought. Now im worried she missed something on my skin cancer screening so Ill probably have to find someone else. Such a bummer, because i was really pleased with the front office staff and the speed of appointments. I paid $1,810.00 on November 15th for facial injections to improve my appearance, BUT NO! I got lumps all around and no less wrinkles at all. I went back on November 21st to show Debbie Panico, who sets up these injections, how awful it was and she agreed and said they would call me back. I made an appt here, second time. First time was last year and everything was fine. I show up this week for my appt which I scheduled in advance for them to tell me I'm out of network and would need to pay cash. So I missed work, drove out here for them to not have verified benefits before I arrived. Last year they were in network, now they aren't. I have seen Dr Bowers and/or PA Cheryl for many dermatology screenings and treatments starting in 2002, but mostly over the past 10 years. Since I grew up on a farm and had lots of sun exposure as a child, I guess I tend to have sun-related skin cancers. The team at Southlake Dermatology is very professional and takes great care of me, including identifying and correcting several different cancerous spots so far. I will never visit this place again. The PA saw me because I have a lesion on my face that kept growing instead of doing a biopsy right away, she asked me to cover it and put Vaseline on it for 2 weeks. I came back after two weeks and she said: "It looks good!" I told her that I did not think so. That's when she finally did the biopsy. Then, they said the results will come back between 7-10 days. Not a call for 10 days so I called them. That's when I found out that it was carcinoma and it was growing aggressively. I'm so disappointed with this practice and their lack of empathy. read more

My daughter visited the office today and this will be the last time we go to Southlake Dermatology. She was treated as a number instead of a patient. The doctor gave her about one minute of time without consideration. I went about a year ago for a dermaplane and did not receive the full treatment. Well thanks to Nya, PA, she biopsied this place on my forearm that 2 other Dermatologists said it was just "old age". Thank goodness as it's squamous cell cancer! Beautiful office and nice staff but really not happy with the standard of care I received. Recently went in as a new patient for a couple of different things including hair loss. My provider didn't even look at my scalp to see the hair loss...like not at all. Just recommended one of their products and said she'd see me again in a year. Like seriously; you're not even going to follow up with me to see if what you're asking me to use is working? Then again; it's not like they did an exam in the first place so they wouldn't have anything to compare it to. read more

This is a really excellent doctors office for many reasons. First they have a large selection of treatments, skin care and even makeup. Add to that it is a doctor doing the work for treatments. So if you are at all unsure of something with your skin, or never had a treatment, ie laser, botox and more-done to look younger-I would start here. This is also the only doctors office I've ever been to that has an all women staff, from the top on down. Once you become an established patient it becomes a little easier to get an appointment. But just know until you have been seen at least one time it can take awhile to get an appointment. I feel it is worth it. When you are first seen they will take a picture of you so they know who you are. They also take before and after photos of treatments like botox. Everything from my very first Botox treatment, to a serious issue where I got stung by two bees multiple times on my finger, plus some other skin issue I've gone here. It was better to be seen by these dermatologists for the bee issue then my GP. The stingers were deep in my finger and it was very very painful. Serious scraping to get the stingers out and more was needed. Plus an antibiotic ointment was needed, and a numbing ointment to help with weeks of recovery. You can't get that at the spa. I also was seen after getting bit by a grey recluse spider in Hawaii. This is a very serious and dangerous spider. At first I went to my GP since I was really sick and running a fever. Never would I have guessed the serious nature of this spider bite. My GP gave me a tetanus shot and more, but recommended going to a specialist for more care. Believe me I felt a little stupid for so much trouble over a spider bite. Even the Hawaiian Agricultural affairs had to be notified. I was told I got really lucky that I was seen quickly. In the end part of the skin on my hand had to be cut out and stitched. The doctors did a beautiful job and you can't even tell where the damage was today. Plus the care I received through all of my visits was top notch. A reminder, don't forget to have your moles checked while you are there. Skin cancer is no joke. That is another benefit to going to an MD if you want to get a spa type treatment like botox, or laser treatments. This outstanding office can have do a full body check of the places you can't see, or the moles that might be an issue. When you go into this very nice office don't forget to check out the beautiful display of skin products. They also have excellent brochures of all the treatments offered. They also have a makeup artist on hand, so if you want to really know the type of skin and makeup you should be using this is the place. You can also order your products online. They even have a frequent user points system. Bottom line, this place has it all to keep your skin health in order, and to make you look even more beautiful then when you walked in. Note:remember some treatments take time before the effects start to work. For the men out there, don't be afraid to go to an all women staffed office. You not only will get a very complete and honest exam, you will also know that these women will tell you the truth on what you need. I know this isn't the cheapest place to get treatments done, but if you want to make sure it is done correctly-look no further. Another reminder, if you want any type of refreshing done before the holidays book an appointment early. These types of appointments fill up especially when all the parties are about to begin. read more

The Doctor I saw was very nice and friendly. However, the IPL treatment I went to see her for was a disaster. Absolutely no results. I've had IPL twice a year for 7 years. These results were not even close to what I'd expect. I called the office to let them know and they called me back three days later. They scheduled a follow up with the Dr but when I arrived there was a 45m + wait and I was told there had been a "problem patient." I was told that "Southlake is a world of its own (by their office manager) and I shouldn't expect good service or value. Hmm.... They are expensive, which I don't mind but they are not value, they dont treat patients like valuable customers, and its like a puppy mill for skin care. read more

Unfortunately, I can't say that my experience here was a good one. The office looks and feels nice aesthetically, but once I was ushered past the waiting room doors I felt like nothing more than a heifer in a cattle call. The young gal who was designated as the physician's assistant was completely unprofessional in the way she talked and interacted with me. She was completely distracted from what she was doing and even admitted it. She also gave me the impression that she'd rather be home watching MTV rather than working. When Dr. Beth came into the room, she spoke so fast that I didn't even catch half of what she was saying. She did a quick skin check and then went on her way. I felt kind of dazed and confused as I wasn't quite sure what I was supposed to do next. The PA insisted that I not worry, she would write it down for me. When she handed me the piece of paper it simply stated that I should buy diaper cream for my lips. I was also told I would have a prescription for a cream for my lips, which the PA would call in to the pharmacy for me. I left, somewhat in a state of shock, and just figured it would all work out. Days later, I never heard from the pharmacy, so I knew the PA never sent them. When I called to have my records and prescriptions mailed to me, the receptionist INSISTED that I did not have anything prescribed. Of course she even checked with the PA, who told her that the doctor never prescribed me anything. When I told her I had the samples of the cream that was prescribed here at home, she checked with someone else, who came on the phone and said that yes, I do have a prescription and that they would mail them to me. I proceeded to tell her exactly why I was asking for my records too as I wouldn't be returning, and I got the most unapologetic sorry I've ever received. I left feeling rushed, frustrated, and uninformed, not mention that my concerns fell upon deaf ears. I will be looking for a new dermatologist, one who cares, and with a professional staff. read more

I've been going to Dr Bowers and PA Cheryl for 7 years...they were always helpful and had great bedside manner. Last month, I missed an appointment (which they used to confirm via txt) and they sent me a bill for $50. I'm never going here again. After my last visit, I was given a prescription to fill. I went to get that at my pharmacy, and it was $160. I laughed and told the lady behind the counter to keep it. It was just a topical cream thing for a small wart I have on my finger. I thought there was some kind of mistake but also didn't really care because I know that warts are caused by a virus, and no cream is going to help get rid of that. So that was a sticker shock but not the real reason behind my one star update. - I went back today for a second appointment. I waited for 1/2 hour after checking in, which was unusual given that many people to arrive after me were seen before me. Maybe they do call-ahead seating like at Chili's? I saw the doctor for maybe 60 seconds. I got to the counter, and my bill was $180. No joke. I had nothing done that was any different than last time, actually I had far less done this time, but for whatever reason this was $180. I asked them to check that out, because I knew it wasn't that much last time. She explained about insurance and how it only coveres a portion of the cost, blah blah who cares. I had to pay $180 for a 60 second visit. I feel ripped off. It makes me sick to my stomach that I had to pay so much for so little. What a gyp. I'm an American citizen with a full time job and health insurance. I shouldn't have to pay hundreds of dollars to see a doctor. I shouldn't have to pay hundreds of dollars for a prescription. This is a joke. Maybe it's Texas, because back in Massachusets/civilization, doctors visits were like maybe $20, and prescriptions were always $5. I give up. I'm never going here again. -- Quick update: Checked my credit card statement and sure enough this place charged me $180 for my first visit as well. Does health insurance not cover ANYTHING anymore??? I don't think they even tried here to get insurance to pay for ANY of it. What a joke. ------ Update 1/2014: I appreciate the response from the "owner" (??), but it doesn't matter anymore. Back in Massachusetts, I've had the same "work" done, and haven't had to pay hardly anything. I come to Texas, come to this office, and have the same work done - only I end up paying for it through the nose - TWICE!! I don't know if it's that my insurance is different, or Texas just stinks, but even a heads up that "Hey your insurance is going to charge you like crazy for this visit" would have been appreciated. I've been going to Southlake Dermatology for about 6-8 years. Great, clean place with great staff. I see Dr Hickey, Beth & Keaton... they take great care of their patients and have wonderful bedside manner. I enjoy coming here. I've received peels and microneedling from Keaton and love my results. She took the time to explain to me what might be best for my skin / scarring. New to the area and had a terrible rash. Called and was able to make an appointment several weeks out. Once there, I sat in the waiting room for over half an hour (past my appointment time) Nurse practitioner barely looked at me (or the rash) She was in and out in under five minutes. Felt like they did not really listen or care. Husband developed hives and had the same experience. Rash still present and will go to another office. read more

I've been to many Dermatologists for acne since I was 12 (now 23) and Southlake Dermatology has been the best. Dr. Greer was the only doctor to ever suggest that my acne was hormonal and not caused by uncleanliness or by what I eat (popular scapegoats for teenage acne). The medicine she prescribed has worked amazingly for about 3 years now. Now I'm able to look into cosmetic options to eliminate previous scars. Southlake Dermatology has always provided me with professional care. Some people complain about office wait time or appointment investments. But an office that fills the wait room is probably a place that's worth your time and investment in the long run. read more

Wait time is forever. Takes min 45 minutes after your scheduled time to be called back. I'm only 17 so I don't have much control over where I receive my dermatology treatments, but for a consult over acne, it shouldn't take 45 minutes to have a 10 minute appointment. Edit: Finally got called in. They are not sorry at all that they kept me waiting; they lie straight through their teeth saying they are sorry. Normally I'm a patient person, like in restaurants or something, but this is my mom's money they're taking for such bad service. And it's ridiculously expensive. They said my prescription would be max 25 bucks. It ended up being 75. Yeah. read more

I arrived on time and had all paperwork completed, but had to wait 25 min after my arrival to be called back. They should respect patient time as we respect theirs. I booked an appointment in JULY to see one of the two Dr.s on staff and the soonest available for Dr. Grier was Monday November 14th (that is FOUR months in case you were wondering). This past week I received multiple texts messages AND emails to confirm my appointment, to which I responded "yes" to all. Imagine my surprise when I received a phone call on Friday the 11th (1 business day before my appointment that I made four months ago) from a receptionist saying Dr. Grier no longer works for Southlake Dermatology... Ok, my initial thought is, "oh wow something crazy must have happened today for her to up and quit like that" NOPE! She had left a week before but I'm just now being informed basically the day before... I feel like there was no sense of urgency in regards to reaching out to her patients if they had this information for an entire week. I've been to this office seeing various assistants as well as Dr Platt. I've had very positive encounters with all the staff including PA's and office staff. Over all very good customer service including leaving samples in a designated spot for after hours pick up and providing additional coupons for drugstore items. My only complaint is the preference for name brand specific prescriptions over generic options. This has happened on nearly every visit and is a huge time consuming ordeal to to get insurance pre authorizations or request a generic option. Otherwise Love them! read more

I had a terrible experience at Southlake Dermatology last year, and really want to caution others about this practice. We had been using Southlake Dermatology for about six months when we had to switch our insurance from United Healthcare to Healthcare Marketplace's (Obamacare) United Healthcare. Just after that change occurred, I had a relatively high sticker price procedure planned at Southlake Dermatology, so I called their accounting department to make sure our insurance would still be honored. I was assured that I was still covered for service under HM's United Healthcare, and went ahead with the procedure. About a month later, I got a bill for the full cost of the procedure. Horrified, I called the accounting department, and the same woman who had confirmed my coverage a month before told me that she had "goofed", and that Southlake Dermatology did not honor my insurance. The practice was not willing to clean up their mistake, or work with me on pricing in any way. They held me responsible for the entire bill, which I paid for fear of being sent to collections. Also? The procedure in question failed, and the issue came back. So I was out a fairly steep bill, for absolutely no positive result. Southlake Dermatology may very well be a good practice, and I hope my experience was the exception instead of the the rule. But just in case it's not... read more

I went in for spider vein removal. I was told by a nurse the charge would be $500. for a 45 minute treatment. I was required to pay $100. deposit when I made my appointment. When I had my treatment, I was told, I owed $500. I told them about my $100.. deposit, and was told the treatment was $600. My fault, I should have got it in writing in the first place. My spider veins shows absolutely no improvement after my "SCLEROTHERAPY" I was told I may have to have more than one treatment to completely remove the spider veins, but there would be a full charge for each treatment. That is a pretty good system. Maybe car mechanics should try that. I can fix your car, but it may take a few attempts, and by the way, you will be charged full price each time. It has been three years now since my treatment with no improvement. I completely wasted my money. read more

WOW!!! I'm shocked about the negative reviews! I have never seen a dermatologists before but been to plenty of doctors offices. And I will say this was one of the BEST experiences I've ever had! I arrived 30 minutes early since I was a new patient... But I had filled out the online paper work BF hand so I was seen 15mins BF my appt. awesome! The PA was funny and sweet. Made me feel completely comfortable. Doctor Sara Greer came in very quickly and answered all my questions. Even asked me personal questions about my life. Had a Great conversation! I had a skin tag that Insurance wouldn't cover to remove... So they just did it quickly for me. No charge! What?!! That was over and beyond wonderful!! My appt was for 10:30 and I was out the door by 10:45! Then came to billing and I have met my deductible for the year... Ask them to bill me and she said no problem just needed a CC on file! I have been to this practice on and off for over 5 years. I have 2 family members that have also been patients here for this long. I had not been here since last summer and when I made my appointment for skin cancer concern, I didn't know they had moved again. I showed up to my appointment 25 minutes late because I couldn't find the new office. They refused to see me even though there was one patient still being seen. I asked if I could wait and they refused and joked about how late I was. I explained again that I didn't know they moved. I will Never go back to this office.
