Loaded Mac and cheese - Went skimpy on the Mac and cheese this time.
Chip C.

They came back to our area recently and we tried them out again. Not only had they raised their prices, but they drastically cut the portion size of the nachos (which we loved) and the loaded mac only had about 1/2 the container full. It was very disappointing since we liked them so much the first go-around. You can raise prices, or you can shrink portion sizes, but to do both in a matter of just a few weeks? That's just bad business. I don't think we'll be back. We'll support other businesses I think.

I'm from out of town, and was using Yelp to locate another spot, but this place was the only one that I could find in the area. I'm glad because it was great food and service. Clean and neat as well. Short wait. Out of smoked chicken wings, but the special looked great though; hamburger steak with onions, mash potatoes with gravy, turnip greens, a roll, & dessert of choice. I chose the smoked ribs which were charred on the outside but tender inside. Cajun fries with ranch and baked beans were tasty. Took off with a slice of orange cake to go. Staff is very nice. BBQ smells amazing walking in from parking lot & leaves a great taste in your mouth too. Just a short ways off the interstate. Decor is country and sweet. Extra space in the back for larger crowds. Clean bathrooms, (1 @ a time) including a changing table in the women's. Would come back again when passing through. Better than expected!

Inside the building looking towards the outer door. Not a fancy place by any means, but great food.

This place is a hidden gem, located in a rural are between Trussville and Springville. It's located in a strip mall with just a handful of stores. The front of this place is unassuming, with just a simple sign and not much thought towards marketing. What they lack in pizazz, they certainly make up in good food. Their pork BBQ is very good. Smoked with hickory wood for hours, the flavor is deep and powerful (but not overly powerful). Their chicken is likewise delicious, and was not too dry. I liked the chicken, but the pork was better in my opinion. One of their signature dishes is a BBQ nacho. It's a mound of nachos with pulled pork on top. I've also had their wings...and these were probably my favorite menu items. They are smoked and then flash fried. With a kicking sauce dripping off, I was tempted to eat the bone and all. Their staff is laid back and super friendly. It's also a place I wouldn't hesitate to bring children. Chances are, you won't disturb the crowd that I've seen in here. I definitely recommend this place. Happy dining

Horrible! I got the pulled chicken and it was dry and tasteless. I'm sorry, bug it was also cooked too long.

We ate off the food truck. Would have been 3 stars if the nachos were remotely warm. Like the cheese or BBQ heated. Just couldn't do it.

I'm in the Trussville area often and have noticed this place for a while, but today was the first…read moretime I finally had the chance to try it. For context, I'm a certified KCBS BBQ judge and run a small BBQ catering business. That doesn't make me special, but it does mean I know BBQ. Rodney Scott is well-known in the BBQ world for whole hog, so I've been looking forward to trying his food for a long time. Today was the day. I ordered the 3-meat plate with ribs, pulled pork, and turkey, plus two sides. Ribs: Excellent smoke flavor and seasoning, but very undercooked--they needed at least another hour on the smoker. I received three bones, managed to eat most of two, and left the third. Big disappointment. Turkey: Tender but dry, and it tasted like it had been sliced a while earlier and held. Very neutral flavor with no smoke or seasoning coming through. Just okay, but I'd skip it next time. Pulled pork: Completely underwhelming. Tender, but almost no flavor and none of the smoke I expected, especially after tasting the ribs. Mac and cheese: Grainy and not enjoyable. There are several reasons mac and cheese can turn grainy, but either way, I'd pass on it next time. Collard greens: Surprisingly good, but I was shocked they didn't have pepper juice available--a Southern staple with greens. I'd eat these again, but I'd bring my own pepper juice. Overall: I left disappointed. I mentioned to the staff--who were very friendly--that the meal wasn't good, but it was brushed off. With the level of anticipation I had for Rodney Scott's, this visit didn't come close to expectations. I don't see myself returning.

Today's review is Rusty's BBQ located at 7484 Parkway Drive in Leeds, Alabama. They are a family…read morerun business and have won several awards over the years since opening in 2009. Rusty's is hands down the best BBQ in Alabama, I drive over 50 miles at least three times a month or more to eat here. They offer up pork sandwiches, plates, ribs, brisket, cheeseburgers, a vegetarian BBQ, chicken, sausage, world famous collards, homemade pies and more along with a variety of sides. I don't eat vegetables so I double down on the fries, I cover them with their sweet BBQ sauce, which I also love on the meat. The serving size at first glance looks a little small but don't be fooled, it will fill you up along with the generous helping of whatever side you order. The last time Julie was with me she ordered the ribs with okra and mac & cheese, both were enough to feed a family of four. The ribs were fall off of the bone and cooked to perfection, not burned like some rib places around the area. As for me, like I said, I always order the pulled pork plate with double fries, sweet BBQ sauce all over both. I have tried the spicy BBQ sauce and at first taste it was a little hot for my taste buds, but over time I kept dipping my fries in it and once I got used to it, it was pretty good, I would not put it directly on the meat or fries. I also tried the house sauce, it was just a sauce, kinda like if you didn't want your BBQ plain, best I can describe it is like drinking water instead of anything with taste, it's something to wet your throat. They offer a white sauce but I did not try it. The sweet tea is also very good. The service is good as well, someone came out and checked on me as I was eating, they play the blues on the radio but not too loud, the decor is local with lots of hometown football and area sports decor. The only thing I did not see that makes a great BBQ joint a legendary BBQ joint is a picture of Alabama football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, all of the legendary BBQ joints in Alabama have a picture of the Bear. Rusty's offers ample indoor and outdoor dining and plenty of parking with handicap parking available. Now to the only negative, when I order I always emphasize that I want NO pickles on my plate, I can't stand pickles or pickle juice. Several times they have put pickles on my plate, it's just a couple of small pickles and I remove them but it's the fact that I point it out plainly when ordering and they still get it wrong. I don't let little things like that slide when reviewing restaurants. If you are a local and eat here alot be sure to put your phone number in when paying to earn points for your reward, it's only 5% off, but every little bit counts. Overall Rusty's hits a home run when it comes to BBQ in the state of Alabama, it's worth the drive. 5/5
