Food is always good. Got 2 rib sandwiches; $10 each. Didn't notice I could have gotten a half slab for $16 until after I ordered. lol. The rib sizes were worth the price. Then, the guy working the drive thru was in intense conversation with one of the other workers, he never looks up to take my card. This is the original location so the menu is a bit more limited but equally delicious! It's a small place and always busy so maybe go off peak hours to be sure to get a seat. Counter service was good. I ordered the rib plate with Mac n cheese and baked beans. My hubby ordered the pulled pork plate with same sides. We both agreed the meat was tender and full of nice smoky flavor and finished off with their tasty bbq sauce. The sides were good , the Mac n cheese was more dry than I prefer and the baked beans were good. We were blessed to meet the men who make it all happen - the smoke masters. read more

Full Moon BBQ is one of my favorite barbeque restaurants in Birmingham. I have visited the Hoover and Southside restaurants as well as the 280 restaurant. Their cole slaw is to die for. I have even ordered it to share at parties. I also like their baked beans. When I go, I order the sliced pork plate (inside and out). It comes with two sides, a hamburger bun, their chow chow slaw which is delicious and pickles. When you go, you have to try their full moon cookies Half of the cookie is covered in dark chocolate. Even though I love this place, there are some things I wish would change. Sometimes their pork can be fatty and I wish that the southside location was bigger. Birmingham is full of great BBQ and Full Moon is high on that list! Love the chow chow, pulled chicken, and half moon cookie. This location does not have smoked wings but those are very tasty. My coworker and I each got a pick up order of the chicken and rib combo with mac & cheese, fried green tomatoes, and a slice of coconut pie. It was amazing and served us almost two meals. Full Moon BBQ downtown is walking distance from my home. My family and I have been keto and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their Chicken and Ribs. No sauce needed. Sometimes I go three and four times a week I like it so much. THEN, I go off my diet for a day or two. I say to myself, "I can have anything I want. What do I really WANT?" I do a bee line to Full Moon for a Jumbo sliced pork end sandwich, fries, riblets and their chocolate chip cookies. I can't help myself, it is my favorite thing of all time especially for lunch. When the days are hectic and there are long hours between meals, Full Moon offers diverse flavors with filling and long-lasting food. While the line tends to be long, the employees quickly get everyone through the line with their correct order. If you know me, you know I love me some BBQ! Whether it's dine in or getting it to go, I love BBQ. Full Moon is one of those spots. I particularly like the brisket here, and love that they always have heated BBQ sauce for their quests. Recently had this catered in for a 'working lunch' meeting. I wish they hadn't put the chow chow on by default on all of their sandwiches, as I am not a fan and always ask for it not to come with the meal. But the sandwich was good, and helped us continue on. I'm sure we'll cater it in again for another meeting sometime soon once all of the social distancing ends and work resumes meeting normally. I love BBQ. Full moon has always been one of my favorites. I've eaten at all their Birmingham locations and have been pleased with their consistency across restaurants. My usual order is the sliced pork plate with mixed inside and out. My sides are usually the baked beans and slaw. My other favorite food is the slab of ribs. This location is the original and is an interesting spot. It is small cramped and festooned with sports memorabilia and photographs. It is a nice place to visit because of this atmosphere. My advice is to avoid this place from 11:30am to 1:00pm on weekdays. It gets extremely busy with lines out the door. Which brings me to my second recommendation during the winter get a table on the far back wall as every time the door is opened there is a cold blast of air that comes in and chills the tables around it. On this visit I ordered my usual pork plate and enjoyed it tremendously. However, I was disappointed to find they no longer had Tabasco sauce at this location. read more

I had Full Moon BBQ that was catered for a work lunch. As much as people said how good it was, I thought otherwise. Perhaps having it catered didn't do Full Moon BBQ the justice it deserved. Well, I wouldn't have it again if I had the choice. I tried the chopped chicken, chopped pork, baked beans, and mac and cheese. The chopped chicken and pork were not bad in terms of flavor, but I thought that they were both dry. The baked beans were standard - nothing particularly special about them. The mac and cheese was gross. The macaroni pasta was overcooked and mushy, and the cheese had watery consistency. I will say that the bbq sauce and chow chow were pretty good. They were the saving graces to the meats, for sure. The house bbq sauce was sweet, which I tend to like for bbq sauces, and tasted great on the pork. I've been to different parts of the South many, many times, but I can't believe that I've never had chow chow before! I guess it's a type of condiment that's like a sweet and spicy pickled coleslaw and relish. It was delicious and paired quite nicely with the chopped chicken. read more

Full Moon BBQ is not called the best little porkhouse in Alabama for nothing! It's the real deal! Every Full Moon has great BBQ, but this location is my favorite because it has the oldest pit of all the Full Moon's. And arguably the nicest servers too. I like the pork plate, but they have other meat options, if that's what you like. The mac and cheese is probably the best I've ever had, and the desserts! I love the cakes and the iconic half moon cookies, but my problem is that their meal portions are so big, I can never even eat dessert! So, I usually take a piece of chocolate cake home to enjoy later. It's a win-win. I decided to stop by The Hill Student Center at UAB to grab some lunch in between classes.I chose to eat Full moon and noticed that their menu options are limited, they do not have everything like an off-campus Full Moon would . I only had a 30 minute period between my classes so I needed to pick my food up and go straight back to class to sit down and eat .I got there around 12:07 pm and the line was moving quick but I did not get my food until 12:16 pm. I purchased the Buffalo Fried chicken tenders with a large sweet tea and it cost me $12.54.They also gave me a buzzer to let me know when my food was ready. They did not follow any Covid precautions all of the plastic forks and spoons do not come with plastic coverings.Overall, the food was great with just the right amount of spice, and the sweet tea was perfect ! Other than having to make a return trip for my tea, it was great. The tea was indeed sweet and Perfect. This is a solid barbecue joint. It is popular though so parking and wait can be an issue. It is a small place, but the cram in a lot of seating. You order at the counter and then take a seat. They will call your number when your food is ready. It is crowded, but they turn tables fairly quickly. That means your wait for a table may not be that bad even during the lunch or dinner rush. For my meal I ordered the pork plate with potato salad and baked beans as my sides. You get quite a bit of pork. You can even get it with a grilled bun on the side for toast or to turn the pork into a sandwich. The barbecue sauce had great flavor. I did not get a chance to taste the pork without the sauce, but with the sauce I can tell you it has good flavor. The baked beans had good flavor as did the potato salad. You get a good amount of each. The grilled buns had a nice butter flavor on their own. I chose to just eat mine like toast. This is a good barbecue option for lunch or a casual dinner. I went to this place only because my cousin suggested and said how "good" the hamburgers were. I initially wanted Rally's due to not having one in Dallas, Texas and really wanting a good tasting hamburger. I took her suggestion and tried this spot. I ordered 1/4 lb burger with NO ketchup, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, extra onion, (bacon/cheese, extra fee for each). There were three cars in front of us ordering. When we paid we were told to park over to the side, because hamburgers take longer. We parked for almost 30 minutes before my single hamburger was delivered to the car. I checked my burger and this is what I received. A partially burnt burger that was hidden within the bun, NO extra onions, NO cheese, NO bacon. I advised the employee this burger was not worth the time wasted and I need a refund. We waited another 10-15 minutes and she didn't return. As I was walking into the building she was coming out stating I needed to come in. I went to the counter and requested my refund from a white male. He seem discombobulated. I advised him of my issue and my dissatisfaction. He explained it takes 10 minutes to cook a burger. I advised him it was three cars in front of us, the burger should have been done by the time we got to the window. I advised him I've never waited that long for a burger that was smaller than the bun and partially burnt. He then asked if I paid cash or card. I told him it should be coded on their receipt. He then appeared to be irritated with me and said he didn't know. I told him he has not right to appear irritated with me when I've wasted nearly 40 minutes on a poor resemblance of a hamburger. The small-shackish location of this local chain serves up some really good barbeque! I ordered the standard pork sandwich, chopped with alot of outside brown. So much was piled on that in order to eat it without dropping half the meat, I opened it up and split the meat between the buns - basically 2 open-face sandwiches. The meat was moist and had a good smoke flavor. The spicy chow-chow slaw they put on top was tasty, albeit not as much as I would have liked. The bun held up to the vinegary sauce that was provided on the table. Kudos to them also having tabasco on the table too. Service was pretty slow though. It was late for lunch (1 pm) and the place wasn't that busy, so I was a bit surprised. But the food was worth the wait. The only downside to this place, is the facilities. It's extremely small. Maybe 12 tables total - some 2 tops, most 4 tops, 1 6 or 8 top. There are no standing counters. I would imagine you'd have to wait for a table to open up at peak times. read more
