This is a great credit union! I came to Southland to open up my first ever auto loan, I shopped around for a bit, as I was looking for the best rate. They were giving me a rate I couldn't refuse, I was told over the phone to do it online, but since this was my first ever loan I truly wanted to go in person so I can ask questions, and make sure I'm doing everything correctly! The person who helped me over the phone, informed me about a service they had which was CarScouts! I told her I already had a car, but I would love to hear from them since this car might get sold at any moment! John from CarScouts then called me and was giving me all the information about them, at this point I still didn't start the loan process, but I knew that I wanted to go with Southland! He told me to stop by this location in Downey and to speak with Edgar, he said he would be there and could answer all the questions I had. So I went in and immediately I sat down with Edgar and we instantly clicked! He made the process extremely quick and painless! I am very appreciative of him for helping me with all the questions I had! The car that I planned on getting was sold, so I picked up the phone and called John from CarScouts, and in the matter of a couple of hours we had a car ready to go for the next day! Everyone at this location is helpful and friendly, they work as a team. The parking is easy, the inside clean and welcoming. I was lucky to have the manager (Patricia) help me with several transactions, including a coin deposit using the machine. I have found that Southland Credit Union remains at the forefront of providing personalized service. I have been a member or over 54 years, and I am delighted with the number of well-rounded services they provide such as an interest-bearing checking account (a rare commodity in the industry), competitive rates on CSs, an increased interest earning rate on a savings account with a minimum balance of $10,000. These are the services I use. Because of my age (over 70), I am not using loans, etc. because for me, it is all about savings. However, I know these other services are highly competitive and probably better that you find elsewhere because they are focused on providing the best services because they value you as a customer! The staff are knowledgeable and always helpful in making transactions easy when you go into the branch. Southland Credit Union also has a phone service that you can call with and talk with a banker about the issue. I always find the phone services and in branch services to be outstanding. I have never had an issue! They are always willing to assist their members because they are dedicated to serving you with personal service. I most often use the Downey branch led by Rodrigo Estrada, Branch Manager, and I have used services at other branches as well. All are equal in the exemplary services. good afternoon thank you for reaching out regarding the review, I did call in Wednesday morning and spoke to representative over the phone. I cannot recall her name but she did confirm with me the debit card that was linked to my joint account was closed off by someone in the branch, I did explain the situation to her and she ordered my new debit card. There would be no reason for me to have my debit card linked to my joint account "blocked" as that is the debit card I used on a daily, this is a situation where it is what it is but branch representatives should communicate with members every action being taken to their account especially if branch representative is unsure/confused. read more

This branch has moved and the new temporary place is horrible. Starting with the people that work in this bank. Let's start by the tellers, they don't speak Spanish and have a hard time communicating with customers. The workers gossip amongst each other very loud, I can hear every story about the life they lead. Since the manager Rodrigo left this branch it has been chaotic. The tellers are just kids and are always flirting with each other all the time. It's a very unprofessional environment right now. The tellers are not dressed appropriately and look raggedy. I really hope they bring Rodrigo back to this branch, so he can take care of this unprofessional environment. read more

They have been very easy to work with which I appreciate, especially when buying a car. Terrible terrible experience! I am a new customer and they sent my card out on the 11th and it's now 20th so I have not been able to make purchases. So what I do is Zelle money to my other account and on Friday I was doing g Christmas shopping and it stopped working, called them the next morning said that it was because I had a $500 limit and I would be able to Zelle money today at 5:00. I called again to see what can be done because I was at a friends house and needed gas to get home and spoke with another rep and said that they issued a new card today and I told her that I never made that request and she then said you should be able to use Zelle at 2:30 today and it should give you no problems but that I should wait for the card they sent on the 11th (still don't know why they reissued a new card today when I never requested it) Checked the mail today to see if maybe the card was in the mail and nothing! Tried using Zelle at 2.30 since representative said it would work and nothing, tried again since the other rep said 5:30 and nothing! Tried one more time at 9pm and nothing. I had no access to my money and no way of getting home without gas money!!! I will be trying again Sunday but tbh I don't think it will work. I will be closing this account and never looking back. Just terrible experience and worst part is that we are just around the corner for Christmas!!! Very disappointed in this bank!!! I would never recommend this bank to anybody. Seems like they just give you an answer to keep you calm but the answer isn't even accurate or true. Very mad and very stressful situation! What an amazing and wonderful experience. Maricruz and Duke were simply amazing. Maricruz with her lovely laugh on the phone made this experience fun. Duke, who was the complete rock star was absolutely astounding. He found the car I wanted so fast and was quick to respond via text or was lightning fast on a phone call to answer my questions I that had during the entire process. I have been a member of Southland Credit Union for many years! This credit union helped me finance my first car purchase from a dealership. It was not costly to become a member and the accounts that I opened didn't require a high minimum balance. To this day, I still find the service to be excellent at the new location in Downey. Friendly and helpful staff members are knowledgeable in their service and banking products. Professional and understanding of their customers financial needs, and still offering higher yield accounts without the ridiculous minimum balance requirements. I am trying to send money through Zelle and I am doing it properly. For some reason i do not see the deposit or withdraw on the app. Very frustrating to have this happen when your trying to send money from other bank account and find that your money isn't appearing or disappearing. This should not be happening if there is a maintenance there should be an email about it. read more

I enjoy banking with this convenient location. The tellers are always attentive, personal and eager to help. Recently, I had a special financial transaction I wanted to do in which I had to make an appointment with a specialist. She made a comment and said "I recall reading an email where I can actually do this for you..." This was added information she gave me that was going to save me so much time and effort to complete the transaction. She asked if I had a few minutes for her to confirm it. She found the correspondence, researched it in a special book she pulled out, confirmed it and got approval with the manager to do the transaction. I couldn't believe how happy she made me! Went to use their ATM the ATM was perfectly fine I inserted my card it sucked my card then gave me an out of service message two minutes later went back to normal I called to get my card back and they said that there's nothing they can do so now my credit union is going to charge me to get a new card I told them to make a note that the ATM is out of service so other people won't get their debit card taken from them on a Friday and they just completely disregarded me and were very rude I would not go here they are terrible trash the worst customer service ever read more

I recently needed to receive money from someone using the Zelle App. Southland IS an approved bank using Zelle. After several attempts online, already having an account online, I was unable to link my Southland account to Zelle. I called Southland, spent an hour on the phone for what sounded like the service representative trying to sign me up online with no luck. The representative did not offer any other help or advice. Ultimately, I told the representative I would just use a different bank. The representative did not offer any response or offer to keep my business. SOUTHLAND does not care about your business and is not looking to service customer accounts. It's the good old savings and checking account or nothing. SOUTHLAND does not offer robust online tools, support or services. If you need computerized banking, SOUTHLAND IS NOT FOR YOU! read more

I entered a pre application requesting for a car loan and Instead of calling me to confirm that I was the actual person applying for the loan they ran my credit before giving me a call. I called asking them why did they run my credit without calling me first to go over my options and they said the application indicates they need to run my credit first. I've refinanced with different banks and I've never had this issue I'm always given a call first making sure I'm the person applying and they go over the rates/ options they have. If you're looking for a loan be sure to call before submitting a pre application because they will run your credit and not care if you have a hard inquiry. read more
