I had no problem with the store till I got to register number FOUR. The lady there was really rude to me and would talk smack about me in Spanish to the register next to me. The register lady named "Maria" raised my prices and charged me TWICE for my croutons which I find ridiculous. The atmosphere and food was great though. Not only to mention she made me bag my own grocery's and was very rude when I wasn't fast enough to bag stuff. The rest of the place was great though. read more

A mid-size small-town supermarket that attempts to have a bit of everything. Pluses: have prepared sushi that's decent and fairly priced, have some higher end items (cakes, fresh Italian pasta, prepared foods, cheeses, specialty items & some meats/fish prepped for easy cooking) , run some good weekly specials, deli is better than King Kullen in Cutchogue. Minuses: some staff not friendly, meats can be improved - they're a hit or miss (with many misses on the sale items). In general items are overpriced as the North Fork now caters to city folks with 2nd homes and charge city prices (higher priced than Nassau & western Suffolk Counties). North Fork markets have yet to realize they can retain more business which they lose to towns west of them as many people who would otherwise shop here, choose to shop elsewhere when they travel westward. read more

Wow. Where to start? 1). Do NOT ask anyone in produce anything in English. I am not being racist - but unless you are fluent in Spanish the "Do you have Thyme?" will be met with the blankest of stares. I mean -THYME - you'd think that would be kind of known about. 2). There is a check out person who loves to diss customers to their face in her native language, thinking we do not know Spanish. Classy move. 3). Depending on the time of day the piped in 'music' is at the whim of whatever manager is on duty. This means anything from the Carpenters to songs I cannot repeat here due to obscenities and references to various female parts. And it's loud enough to hear - trust me. 4). No matter what time you are there -if you use Verizon, you're screwed. No signal. They will NOT spend the 49.95 for a booster box to install about the ceiling so customers can actually use their phones. Call Verizon in Rocky Point yourself and they'll confirm the need for these boxes in the Southold area. Not here though. There's an IGA in Greenport, and a King Kullen down the road. Great small town market. They have just about everything you would expect to find in a larger supermarket. Aisles and aisles of things you need and people you know. The owner is a very philanthropic and has contributed to many of the communities needs big and small. read more

I just got a amazing hoagie from the deli, as a native Philadelphian I've been missing good sandwiches because they just aren't that great in LI, but Gus who runs the deli section makes a hell of a sandwich. $10 for a huge sandwich with a side of deli salad. read more

Conveniently located on 25A in Southold, the Southold IGA is a great place to stock up for those jaunts through the vineyards or spending the weekend on the north fork of the island. Clean, decently laid out, and with a very good variety - you should be able to find something for everyone here. I've been a customer here for years. I'm in the store about 3 times a month and overall it's a good supermarket. If you need it, usually IGA has it and the staff are helpful, even if they don't know your first name (If you're a local they usually do). The deli counter has been consistently reliable through the years but recently I had a bad experience. During a visit there were two women behind the deli counter that really seemed like they'd rather be anywhere else. Let me say that I'm not particularly hard to please. I'm always friendly to people who handle my food for obvious reasons. So a few weeks ago I waited for my turn, said hello and placed my order. Just a half pound of meat and half pound of cheese, a small order. There was no eye contact, no communication, both employees seemed miffed that I was even there. It took less than 3 minutes to finish my order and then the bags were slapped on the counter, again with 0 communication, not a 'here you go', 'thanks' or a 'is that all?' all of which usually happens here. BTW- it was not crazy busy at the time, there was one person ahead of me and a few people behind me. I was there a few days later, saw that one of the same employees were working at the deli counter so I decided to go across the street to Wayside to get my cold cuts. read more

The store itself if fine and fair . The issue i had was with a cashier. November 7th I came in to buy a few things. I noticed the local food donation was being held outside of the store. I decided to buy food to add to the donation. I got to the register with a young boy last register away from the door. He scanned my items and asked if I needed any bags. I told him I need 2 bags. I told him the items that I want to take to the drive , I wanted in one bag and the other items that I separated, I need another bag for. The boy filled one bag and said "if there's anything in this bag that you don't want in here ,you can easily take out ". I told him no everything looks good but I need another bag for the other items that I was taking with me. He shrugged his shoulders palms up and looked away from me. At that point I was confused so I mentioned it again that I asked for 2 bags because this large bag im taking to the food drive. He then responded with the same response. "If there's anything in this bag that you don't want in here , you could take it out". He shrugged again and ignored me. I was confused assuming maybe he didnt comprehend what I was asking. So I decided to just grab the other items I was taking home with me and adding them to the bag . When I got outside I had to remove everything that I was taking before leaving the bag with the food drive and carry everything else in my arms.I was disappointed with the customer service that day. I dont go in often but the few times that I go in, off and on, I have not had this issue. I hope the boy gets better training when it comes to working with customers that need assistance at his register. read more

The Southold IGA is my go to spot for groceries whenever I'm in the area. It's a relatively small store that packs in the food items and the produce section is kinda small. It gets very busy especially during the summer months and I prefer the Greenport IGA over the Southold one. Someone needs to build a larger grocery store East of Matituck/Cutchogue...however, when I'm in a bind and need something quick, this is my spot. It is convenient if you live on the north folk. This stores take advantage of you by prices gouging-their prices are extraordinarily high! A lot of items you will pay double the price than down the road in Cutchogue!. Some cashiers are rude and will actually start gossiping about the prior customers that just left. This I experienced multiple times! So, if you are in a pinch go there, if not, it's worth going somewhere affordable especially at this time when people are financing struggling! read more

This is the best grocery store on the North Fork! I don't know how they keep such a huge inventory in such a small store. Whatever they don't have they will get for you! The meats are the best- and so often at great sale prices. The people who work there are all so nice. Makes you feel welcome and well-cared-for. Visited Southold IGA last night, that was my last time. There overpriced as usual, I purchased a bunch of items when I got home I started slicing up some sopressata that felt slimy I looked at the expiration date and it expired in oct of 2018, Just like everything else in that store you have to check the dates. take the milk from the back because they put the expiring ones upfront, Last time I'll visit that store I'd rather drive a few miles west and head to King Kullen. read more

For weekends when I'm hosting a large group, I always call Gus at the Deli counter to book a 'big sandwich'. They are priced to compare against King Kullen and Wayside Market, and throw in sides of potato salad, pasta salad, and cole slaw - and closer than the rest. Impressive beer selection too. I've been coming here my whole life and I loved the friendly atmosphere and small town vibe of the IGA. However, within the past year, when I do go to IGA there is a woman named Maria who has been working here for 15+ years who is not only rude to "tourists" but now to the locals. Making fun of older folks, yelling at costumers and making rude comments to people. I usually don't write negative reviews regarding specific people but on my last IGA trip it was completely awful...she was loudly making fun and mocking an older man with dementia.
