Came last weekend as I was exploring the North Fork and I was so happy I decided to stop by! As others have said, it is the cutest little store. I came right at opening and there were already several others waiting. They didn't have their oatmeal cookies yet, so I got a slice of a blueberry lemon tart, which was incredible. The crust of the tart was buttery, crumbly, but crunchy. The tart was super fresh and the blueberry and lemon flavors really shined. I should have gotten more things! Highly recommend! read more

Heading east to Orient I was feeling peckish and searched online for someplace serving something quick that had a breakfast-y vibe. After a stop at The Candy Man (the woman behind the counter was LOVELY!), I headed basically around the corner. On street parking was plentiful. The store is on Village Lane, which has the most charming houses on it. Very quintessential North Fork/eastern Long Island feel. When you walk into the Orient Country Store it really is like stepping back in time. They sell everything from freshly prepared foods and baked goods, souvenirs to band-aids to ice cream. I could not decide what to get from all of the lunch options, so opted for a bacon egg and cheese on a hard roll. It was going to take a few minutes so (I think) Mariam suggested I go two doors down to the linen store, walk around for a bit then come back and my breakfast would be ready. Before heading to look at linens, I took some pics outside the Moonflower Café next to the post office. Such tranquil vibes. I'd love to sit there on a day where I can sit and enjoy a meal. OK back to breakfast . . . There is seating on the store porch which is nice, but hang a right and you will see some picnic benches set up. Further down and there is a swing set. Super cute for kids. I found my way to an empty table and now after my prologue, I begin my review: I am an ex-pat New Yorker and have very high standards when it comes to a good BEC (pass on the K for me). This was BEC nirvana. The cheese was perfectly gooey, the egg had that crispy, crunchy brown lacework of egg white on the edges, but the yolk was still just slightly runny. Oh, and the bacon! Odes should be written about the bacon. Perfectly cooked to the right amount of crisp. This is the Platonic ideal of bacon. I started out planning on not finishing the delicious sandwich, but could not help myself. I would hate sitting here today wishing I'd had those last few bites. I also just could not bring my plate back in to the store with anything left on it. It would have been insulting. So I did the only right thing. I finished the sandwich and now want another. Straight shot from my house is +/- 3 hours. Maybe I'll show up for breakfast tomorrow? If I can't get there, go for me! You will be happy you did! read more

Ah, the Orient Country Store gave me a nice warm nostalgic feeling as soon as I opened their screen door on a sunny Sunday afternoon to place my lunch order. Owners Miriam and Grayson couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. I chose the tuna salad sandwich, Yelpers thanks for the positive tip on that one! Miriam's tuna salad is far removed from the pedestrian bland version swimming in mayo available at other places; no this delicious tuna salad was enhanced by tumeric, fresh squeezed lime juice and homemade pickles that gave it a rich golden hue and uniquely bright flavor. Took a slice of Miriam's homemade blueberry pie and some almond cookies to go and was on my way. Bakery items were flaky, fresh and tasty without being overly sweet. It was nice to see locals sitting on the store's porch swapping news and good vibes too. Great experience, will definitely return - The Whatevers. read more

Made a quick stop here for an early lunch on the way to the Orient Point Ferry. What a nice quaint place with real friendly staff! I had the Quinoa Salad which was wonderful as it was freshly made with excellent greens and a light salad dressing. Nice quantity and reasonably priced. I remember when I first walked into the Orient Country Store some 30 years ago. I had just moved into town. My wife and I needed a lemon. We didn't want to trek into Greenport. So... I walked into the OCS. There were a bunch of mustached old local cronies sitting around a wood burning stove towards the back of the store. They were drinking stale coffee from their own personal mugs. Yaking in a New England accent. Regulars for sure. If you needed the local plumber you would find him there. He didn't have a phone. The same for the local electrician. The store's shelves were rather empty. All package and can goods had expiration dates way in the past. There was one shriveled up tiny lemon in the refrigerator near the counter. Some packaged Boers Head ultra processed meats and cheeses joined the lone lemon. It was a scene from a David Lynch movie for sure. I asked for the lemon and the owner got up from his stool. He put his mug down on the counter, stared at me, and said the lemon was $2. Lol. $2. In money now that would be about $20! I declined. Never to return until recently. Well, needless to say there is a new owner. I think they took over a few years back. The new owners have left the layout of the place pretty much the same. Except all package and can goods have not expired. The shelves are full. The refrigerator is full of fresh farm eggs and other fresh local produce. The counter is full of homemade baked goods. Snickerdoodles... muffin doodles...bread doodles. The place smells as if someone just finished baking. There is a lending library outside on the porch. Books!!! The old local cronies have been replaced by gobs of fresh faced non local summer time renters out of town families. If you needed to get in touch with an asset manager, well you would find them sitting in front of the wood burning stove eating some wonderful organic breakfast sweet thing or whatever talking on their cellphone. In the winter months the summertime people are replaced with house hunting, apple picking, pumpkin picking day trippers. It is bad. It is good. I don't miss the old version at all and I am not really attracted to the new version. Anyway... the place seems to be more of a hobby for the owners versus a service to the people of Orient. They are closed mid week. And when they are open, they close at 3pm. Though I feel that if you phoned them they would open the store just for you! They actually seem to open and close at will, going away for weeks and then returning. There is a chalkboard outside announcing the dates of departure and return. All that being said, the food is absolutely great, the service super friendly. It is a happy place. read more

Going out to Orient Point State Park, and there was nothing on the main road that was close to the park. I opened Yelp and found the Orient Country Store! It's a full operating, old fashioned General Store. They had coffee and baked goods alongside anything you needed for home. You don't see a general store in most places on Long Island. We ordered a bunch of sandwiches, and some baked goodies for our picnic on the beach. The sandwiches were delicious, we had a cold roast beef, grilled cheese deluxe, and chicken cutlet. We also got the oatmeal and chocolate cookies, as well as the apple walnut cake/bread. The sweets were all fresh baked and really good. It was packed for a little mom and pop store, so it took longer than we wanted, but otherwise the service was good. Everyone was courteous and sweet. Absolute best food anywhere on the North Fork. Hands down. Get a BLT, add avo, and then grab a baked good and an iced coffee. The muffins are amazing but don't sleep on the snickerdoodle cookies. So walked into the store to grab milk and they only had a half gallon of organic milk. Not really picky with milk just give me whatever. They charged me 6.25 for the half a gallon of milk and for a 4th of July weekend you would think they would be stocked up? Not that great. Wish they had more options. read more

We stopped off at the Orient Country Store after getting a ferry from Connecticut to New York. It was a wonderfully quirky, friendly little shop which clearly caters much more to locals than tourists which was very nice. We got there right for store opening and there were already people waiting when we got there. They have hot sandwiches as well as cakes and pastries for sale and we were pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive their food was. We ordered some hot breakfast sandwiches and a grilled cheese to snack on while sitting outside the store and taking in the old world atmosphere. read more

I am super picky about food. My wife frequently comments that she dislikes going out to dinner with me because I enjoy critiquing the dishes and many times I do wish that I had just cooked for us myself at home. Not at the country store. The food is perfect and I don't use that word lightly. In the egg sandwiches the eggs yolks are always perfectly cooked. Never to runny but also never fully solid. Best Ruben I have ever had, and if you haven't tried the tuna salad the addition of turmeric is genius. Home mad hot sauces! And this perfection continues to the baked goods. I mean you haven't had a blueberry muffin until you eat the one at The Country Store. I secretly think that their baked good put four and twenty out of business, they are that good. You must stop by. "This is the best Reuben Sandwich I have ever eaten!" Exclaimed my almost son-in-law. We also loved the homemade pesto, mozzarella and tomatoes on a French baguette and large bowls of smooth, flavorful Gazpacho. Even our drinks were special: ginger beer, Sound's all natural Rose Soda and Coke with real sugar not corn syrup. We were not too surprised as we have been eating here regularly for two years now and have never been disappointed at breakfast of every imaginable egg sandwich or daily lunch sandwiches and specials. All their cakes, pies and muffins are delicious and home baked by Miriam. The atmosphere of the country store makes you want to hang out all day. It's full of staples such as eggs, milk and fresh French bread along side of local newspapers and the NYT; and there are one off things like old charts and maps and unusual brands of beer and sodas. What a gem of a place! We stumbled upon this place while driving around Orient Point. As soon as you step onto the front porch you are transported back about 60 years...so cool! The inside is exactly how I would imagine an old time general store/lunch counter to be! So quaint an cozy. And the owners are so very welcoming...as if you are in their home. Great baked goods. I had their apple cake which was so moist and fresh tasting. My hubby enjoyed their huge chocolate chip cookie which was delicious and buttery with a slightly soft center...perfect! For what it is, I have to give it 5 stars and I shall explain. It basically what I expect from a small town general store. nothing fancy at all but it is not supposed to be...it is what it is and I enjoyed. I stopped in after arriving on the ferry from CT on a Sunday morning, knowing that we would stop at a few vineyards on the trip back west, I had to get some food in me. Such a friendly staff and I was greeted outside as I walk in. It is a small shop and you have to order in the back. I had a really good bacon, egg and cheese sandwich, while my wife had one egg, tomatoes, avocado and English muffin on the side. Also, had an homemade iced tea which I enjoyed as well. After ordering we grabbed a seat outside and our food was bought out to us outside. It was about $12 for everything. I will definitely return if I am in the area. read more

This place is delightful. I'm not a resident of Orient, and was just in town visiting a friend. She took me to the Country Store, which is perhaps the loveliest place I have ever been. Fresh sandwiches, cold drinks, homemade baked goods, North Fork postcards, and tons of memorabilia hung up all over the place. Everyone who comes in here walks out with a smile on their face, and the owners really seem to love what they do. I had a Nutella cookie and a Salted Oatmeal cookie and they were both fantastic. Still thinking about the oatmeal cookie a couple of weeks later. Can't believe that no one has reviewed this place yet! Please, someone with more knowledge do it justice!
