A lot of updates are going on with the entrance and drives BUT don't let that discourage you from checking this place out for your home! I have been happy with Barb and the office staff since I moved in. And the updates are going to be marvelous when finished. During the summer the pool has been a great cool down spot. Each of the apartments have a pond view and a very colorful fountain. They have a catch and release policy for fishing and my grandkids love it Keyless entry, Amazon thingamajig next to the office for pickup (The blue mailboxes you put a code in to get your Amazon items) If my review really helped let them know Kelly helped out!! They are certainly lacking in the customer service department. I send emails and it seems like they don't know how to read or chose not to. I've been waiting over two months for them to fix this ugly ass balcony they left me with. They agreed to do the bare minimum at least, and even that hasn't happened yet. I get if you're busy and have a crazy schedule for repairs. But learn how to COMMUNICATE, Southport. Barbra is not helpful or good at communicating back and forth. She will ignore questions and give vague ideas of when they will come out to fix things. This should of been fixed before I moved in, my unit was empty for two weeks before we got here. If I could leave a zero star review I would. Front desk girls are wonderful and Jennifer Rogers has been helpful, Barbara on the other hand is very hostile and rude when speaking to her on the phone. We are leaving our lease 2 months early because there has been constant mold growing in our apartment, on doors, windows, bathroom, laundry room, you name it. Somehow we have to pay to leave early when it should be on them since the apartment is not being taken care of by maintenance. The maintenance team is told to cover up the mold by slapping paint and mud over it. How is this helpful? It's absolutely disgusting. We are in the process of speaking to cooperate and someone higher up and this will be taken care of properly. Maintenance is a joke! Had a leak in the bathroom ceiling and it took over two months to get them take it serious and to find and fix it! Then another month to have to holes filled in and painted! I could have done a better job myself! The workmanship is pathetic at best and unacceptable! Barbara, is interviewing for positions at Southport Apartments. She's very disrespectful over the phone. She doesn't allow the prospect a chance to speak. During the phone call she asked if my salary requirements were negotiable and I replied yes. She went on to give the details of the position. Average Maintenance Supervisor make around $25-28 per hour. She throws out that the position is starting at $18 per hour which to the apartment industry is the salary of a high seniority maintenance technician. If we are negotiating the salary, after I informed her that was too low, before I could come back with a counter offer, she immediately ended the call as if I rejected my interest. The maintenance staff always have an attitude about coming out, they don't inform you of when they'll be coming, it takes DAYS for them to finally come and "attempt" to fix anything, the property manager Barb is really rude and will not listen to anything you have to say but interrupt you if you try to talk, they will try to scam you with emails stating you've violated a lease agreement rule and want money. I've been here for 9 months and will definitely say, IM HAPPY IM LEAVING. If I could give zero stars I would WORST rental conditions ever. My toilet constantly is stopped up there is clearly a plumbing issue they refuse to fix. My washer continuously stops mid cycle they've been out several times and gave BS reasons. This time said it's a latch issue and something with the timer being bad a week later I still don't have a washer. Not to mention the maintenance man left dirty water in the laundry room all over my kitchen floor and thought it was a good i to bring a nasty plunger into my kitchen. I loved my apartment and neighbors in building 16. However, the manager (Barbara) is rude and disrespectful . After several run ins she used her position to offer me a non renewal because of a ring door bell that I had placed on my door for safety. I've had the doorbell since 2020 and it was never an issue as well as a wreath that was affixed to my door since I moved in in 2015. The wreath was no an issue but my ring doorbell camera was since I was able to monitor the comings and goings of the staff. Edward Rose do yourselves a favor and find new management because the current one is NOT a good fit for the community. Obviously NOONE at the corporate office reads these reviews and addresses the concerns of the former tenants because this seems to be a ongoing issue with Barbara. Truly, truly, unhappy. We have had to call maintenance over 10 times because I swear they did not inspect this apartment before letting us move in here. We've only lived here since the beginning of May. Bug issues (all they did was spray and put down little ant traps that don't work), plumbing issues, we had black mold on our ceiling that took them nearly an entire month to fully fix, mind you we have a newborn baby. The staff is completely rude, they'll sell to you with a smile and then they're completely rude and condescending when there's an issue after you move in. They'll tell you all the time how they have other residents and that's why they can't resolve issues in a timely manner. Our doorwall has been needing to be replaced since we moved in here because it looks disgusting and I can't clean it because its inbetween the 2 glasses that it's nasty. They'll send maintenance and not call first even though you ask them to several times. They've made me late to work because of this. I love the apartment layout but the personnel are absolutely terrible and not on the same page ever. They don't care about you, they just want your money. Some of the maintenance crew is nice but others have severe attitudes and I've given up on getting things fixed. They also close the pool all the time on sunny days but on days it storms they don't. Southport apartments is a complete joke of a complex. My air conditioning unit was broken for the first year of me living there (Literally the whole summer I had to have several fans blowing throughout my homes and had to rub ice on my cats paws due to him overheating) I lived with black mold for over a year, they claimed every unit has black mold. I had to clean up garbage from past tenants including dog feces because they never checked behind appliances for trash. I lost several belongings due to the black mold spreading in my laundry room and after a night of heavy rain a drain FULL of black mold pumped all over my floor. They made me clean it myself with bleach and water (I am asthmatic).My fridge was broken for over FOUR months and had to use a cooler to keep drinks in my home. They continued to have excuses as to why it wasn't working instead of just simply correcting their faults. Southport continued to enter my apartment without my knowledge and claimed it was to fix their mistakes but it was never fixed. They never did the preventative maintenance they claimed they entered my apartment for either. They also are trying to charge me back date fees of an animal that wasn't even in my apartment. The property manager is a complete joke and she's unprofessional. She doesn't know how to talk to people and it's disgusting. They claimed insurance would reach out to replace my belongings that I lost and still to this day no one has reached out. Not to mention they entered my apartment for a "Pre Walk Inspection" without notifying me, and didn't mention anything about any type of damages when legally they are supposed to and now a month later they are trying to come for false claim charges. I just received a letter from them claiming my carpet was damaged throughout my unit and I had stains all over my walls (Not true) and now they're attempting to try and pull more money out of me when they had me living in inhabitable conditions for months. Southport will try and gain every single dollar out of you and not care about your well being in their apartment units. I would not recommend to ANYONE. I'm not the only past resident that has complained about their lack of care or them breaking laws. I've also talk to several past residents who also agreed their "property manager" Barb simply does not know how to talk to people and is extremely rude. I felt extremely harassed because of the amount of calls and fees they tried tagging along towards the end of my lease once I had explained to them how frustrated I was with their lack of service and how I was living in unhealthy conditions. I lived in Southport for two years and they are trying to charge me $13,00.00 for carpet and paint (Yeah OKAY). They caused me extreme emotional distress during a pandemic and I advise anyone who is looking into moving here to not be charmed by their fake customer service, because soon as you move in you will regret it. read more

Thankfully, at the time of me writing this review, I'm fully moved out of my apartment. I was there for two years and by the way I started this review, you can infer that it was the antithesis of pleasant. The first month was the only decent time I had there. Once I first moved in, I was prioritized in regards to maintenance and really anything I needed. After the first month, all of my maintenance issues were recurring and deemed to be my fault. A few issues I had were the washing machine continued to make noise and shake uncontrollably to the point where I had to start then stop multiple times per load, the garbage disposal didn't work the ENTIRE time I lived there, the refrigerator had the most uncontrollable temperature gauge to the point where I waited months for a brand new one after having much of my food destroyed in the waiting process, I had no kitchen light for months due to the high ceiling, the air conditioning was not working for at least a month then when inspected was deemed my fault due to how often I used it, then continued to malfunction requiring multiple more maintenance visits once again blaming me. Lastly, on my way out, I was certain to clean as best I could and with no surprise there happen to be some type of damage to withhold my deposit. The carpet just so happened to be stained. This "stain" just so happens to be in the pathing in which was taking to walk from the door to the bedrooms. Seems like perfectly normal wear to me. This normal wear has prevented us from getting our deposit back. My solution was maybe I can go back in and attempt to remove the dirt from the carpet. Come to no surprise, the room is now being rented out to a new tenant almost as if there was no issue with the carpet, or no intent to allow us to fix the issue. Ultimately, this complex is all a facade. They prioritize you in the early stages of moving in, but ultimately leave you behind once they have your money. DO NOT RENT HERE!!! The properly may look nice on the outside but don't be fooled ...... The water gets shut off a few times a month for what they say is "an emergency". There is no notice when it's going to get shut off or how long it'll take. Moved into my unit with a yellow jacket hive right on the balcony and about a dozen of them flying around in my apartment. The shelves, fridge, bathroom hadn't been properly dusted nor cleaned properly. Most of the staff in the club house seem to hate dealing with tenants and always have a horrible tone of voice. 3.5 stars because I actually like my apartment and so far my interaction with staff has been okay . I'm writing this review because it will be a year since my apartment was broken into by a staff member who worked in Maintenence at southport . I lost thousands of dollars in stolen electronics. After I filed a report with the police I emailed and spoke to management about this incident . No one has reached out to me to speak on this or even tried to compensate me for my loss seeing it was their staff on duty with key access that went into my apartment and stole from me . Months after this incident I was contacted by the defense attorney who was going against the southport employee to inform me that they had him in custody and he confessed to what he had done . With this information I went straight to the office and asked them what what will be done going forward given I'm now at a loss but no one can ever give me a straight answer and always said that it's a Co operate issue and is under investigation. It's going to be a year since this incident and I'm still out of thousands due to a crooked employee and management still has not reached out to compensate me for my loss or even apologize for the indiscretions of their employee . I will not tell you not to rent from this place because I currently still reside there . It's just disheartening to know that I don't have the freedom to leave important and expensive stuff around my apartment when I'm not around . Now I have to lock up everything in a safe in my own apartment . My apartment was not the only one broken into because when I was at the police station filing the report there was another tenant writing a report about someone taking money from her apartment . And we all had the similar story that it was not a forced entry that person had access to the apartments with a key . I honestly hope that something is done about this . The apartment and view is beautiful. And it's close to plenty of great places. Love the washer and dryer in unit... All that said, the staff is the worst I've had to deal with out of quite a few other places around this area. They're very nice when you're looking for a first time lease but are rude to current residents. Every time you need to go to the office for a question or concern, they are rude and pick up an attitude in their voice. Even when I was just there to pick up a package I was treated like garbage and felt yelled at. And most of the time when I call the office, there is no answer. The maintenance had to be called out multiple times for the same reasons. Was also charged extra for something that was not my fault and they didn't even tell me about it until it was now 'too late to do anything about'. Would've recommended it to anyone for the first 6 months but now... Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

I contacted the apartment office to inquire about the price of renting the clubhouse for August. I am fully aware that we are under the executive order to stay home due to Covid 19. Being that I am a police officer I know what the order says!! The woman who answered the phone was very rude, when she stated, "WE ARE IN A STATE OF EMERGENCY". That is why I called and didn't show up there!! Then proceeded to tell me that they will not be renting the clubhouse out at all! The executive order doesn't that you have to be rude when answering the phone! My son is a tenant there but she never gave me a chance to state that fact. After leaving multiple messages with the leasing office with no return phone call, I came in and spoke with a leasing office associate today. I explained that i was having ventilation issues (smelling everything from neighbors' fried chicken to weed) in my apartment. She listened to me and explained my options clearly. However, the leasing manager had a very nasty attitude, essentially told me she has the same problem in her apartment and nothing could be done, and walked away from the conversation because she didn't like my response. Dealing with customers who have issues with their apartment is a part of the job! Nonetheless, I have worked with the assistant manager in the past and he has also been very helpful. read more

Pay good money to live her just to be harassed by management and have our mantance problems ignored for weeks. IM PREGNANT on third floor apartment in the mid of July they made us go without air conditioning for over a month. Kitchen sink backed up with food and and filled with water reported on a Friday and wasn't fixed for days. I couldn't even cook for my children and the smell was horrible. They don't care about their residents they just want to take every penny you have and provide no real services. read more

They have to call the manager Barbra for everything. Once you speak with her she just talks loud and lies. No one knows what they're doing. They make up new policies and rules every other day! Since when is air/ heat not essential? My air hasn't been working for 2 days, maintenance won't even come out to look at it and there's some "imaginary waiting list." It's too hot not to have air. I came to these apartments after living in another complex owned by the same company. I moved in here about 5 months ago. First the good parts. Having a "lake" view is nice. I haven't been here in the warmer months yet, so I am looking forward to being able to sit on my balcony and enjoy that more. The apartments (for the most part) look very nice from the outside, but I have had a lot of problems since I moved in. Management has decided to do some community events to meet neighbors. I do feel safe here (even though I did come home one day to a car engulfed in flames right outside my apartment), and the view is pretty. I do like how it is so close to the expressways, and how there are a variety of restaurants and shopping. BUT, the appliances are about as cheap as they come. Upon moving in, my oven was turning itself on every 45 minutes by itself. It took three weeks and several maintenance workers looking at it before it was fixed. That is 3 weeks that I could not use my stove. My fridge could not handle the defrost cycle, and dumped a bunch of water from my freezer into my fridge multiple times before it was fixed. I was not given any discount or compensation for having a stove that I could not use. read more

Do not live here. Lived here for 28 days. Apt was supposed to come with a working washing machine and dryer. They installed them new in week 3. During installation I overheard maintenance workers say they forgot the new hose and deciding to use the old hose. I called the office after the workers left and shared my concern. Maintenance manager said he would check with the workers about their work. He told me it was fine without physically checking the hose in my apt. A few days later the hose broke and flooded my entire apt and damaged my furniture, Southport would not let me out of my lease after tormenting me. It took a 2 years for me to sue for rent/ damages. Southport had given me mixed customer service when I first moved in. Felt like I waited a long time for small ( but important) things to be fixed for example my screen door that was broken and would not budge when I first moved in. ( still is not completely fixed but I may try again to just get a new screen). Recently I was having a lot of issues with my washer/dryer and my washer was staining my clothing with black spots . After having multiple maintenance workers come and look at it, it was still staining my clothing. So I made it a point to take my clothing up to the office and explain that I had been out of a washer for over a week in fears that more expensive articles of clothing could get ruined. The workers were extremely apologetic and helpful and within a week I had a need washer/dryer unit and am being compensated for the clothing ruined. I think that the staff does care for their residents but sometimes you have to do a little more work to get things done. Id recommend Southport! read more

I spent two days between seven different people (three from corporate and four from Southport) just trying to get an application cleared up. My wife and I chose Southport because we had it recommended to us by some close friends. We loved the vast majority of our stay here. The maintenance professionals were timely and courteous whenever we needed assistance. We loved the location and the atmosphere. But after we moved out we received a letter from Southport management stating that they were not only going to withhold our security deposit, but also charge us another $250 for pet damages and carpet replacement (a $550 total cost to us). The problem? My wife and I don't own a pet nor did any animal ever set foot in our apartment while we lived there. They claimed to have "evidence" of pet urine stains all over the carpet, which they had conveniently already replaced, and were threatening us by sending our bill to collections. We wrote letters disputing the charges trying to state our case, but we were simply threatened with collections. My wife and I were unable to fight the charges because we had moved out of state where we couldn't afford the time go to a Michigan court. The worst part is that we received a discounted rate on our apartment because it was one of the few that didn't get new carpet before we moved in. They wanted to replace it anyway! We loved our stay until this little fiasco after we moved out. I recommended Southport to everyone I knew who was looking for an apartment while I lived there, but I'll be making the opposite recommendation from now on. read more

It might look good from the outside, but after moving in everything goes downhill! Management sucks, and is very cheap on everything they do. There isn't a way to complain to the main company either. Snow removal is virtually non-existent. In fact they sent us a letter telling us essentially we are responsible for our own snow safety which to me sounds like they are trying to shed liability. They only allow AT&T in to provide tv and Internet or you can buy theirs which is terrible. The U-Verse is good but the lines can't handle the load so the internet is very slow no matter how much you pay for. The A/C is just barley enough to keep the third floor at a comfortable temp. Most of the neighbors are quite but have a very hard time parking inside lines. There are no assigned spots so if you come home at the wrong hour you have to park buildings away from yours. I've heard they take people to court just to keep the pet deposit and then try to force the renter to pay for new carpet. Even though they've payed an extra 20 bucks a month for a pet fee. I would never recommend an Edward Rose property to anyone! read more
