Originally I found STB through Yelp because I was tired of going to the chain spots; Matadors and Sports Clips mostly. After trying about 2-3 barbers I ended up really liking how Josue was able to take very little input (which is my fault) and turn it into a result I'm consistently happy with. This continues to happen close to a year later. I really like the old school and Southtown feel, as well as the vibe of the staff and clients. If I'm going to be out of town, I either make sure to stop in prior or I'm going to be looking shaggy while out. Won't be going anywhere else anytime soon; pandemic or not. I have been a client of Josue for about a year and half and have enjoyed every cut. The entire shop is amazing as everyone is friendly and willing to explain how they will cut your hair. They are appointment only but it's totally worth it as the cuts are about 45 mins so you'll get a high quality cut in a high quality amount time. I found this place on yelp. I drove by, second guessed yelps assessment, and then drove home. I don't take chances with my hair - its a miracle I have any in the first place coming as I do from a progeny of baldness. So I looked for other local options (which were mostly mediocre). Finally, before committing I looked through each and every review, clicked the reviewers picture, and judged. "Are these the sorts of people I want to take hair advice from?" I asked myself. So this was MY first time taking my nearly 2 year old son for a haircut. He's had his haircut before and allegedly he did not enjoy it. This place was recommended to me by another stylist I trust. I made an appointment with Martin. Even though my son was terrified, Martin was a straight-up pro! The guy wasn't phased one bit by the crying and showed patience and compassion. There were even 2 other female stylists who stepped in to assist! I couldn't have been any happier with this business. Relocated to SA a few months ago and I was a bit concerned about where I would get my hair cut especially after going to the same fellow for close to a decade. I was probably closer to my hair cut dude then I am to my wife and basically he knew my head so well I could plop down in his chair and just say 'shorter' and I'd walk out 45 minutes later with exactly what I wanted. After doing a bit of digging stumbled on Southtown and decided to give it a shot, hey... hair grows back and I was about 2 months over do. The spot was walking distance for me and when I got there was immediately into the vibe. They were blasting reggaeton and hip hop the way my old spot in NYC used to blast Danzig and old punk records so felt right at home. Choose Veronica and I am happy I did. I asked her to trim the sides with scissors instead of clippers like my old dude used to, in my mind this gives you a nicer look then just clippers. 55 minutes later the cut was done and have to say came out so great my wife now wants to go to her to get her hair cut. Definitely going back and now that I know my hair is in good hands wont wait as long. read more

Worst fade I ever got in my life. These dudes do not care about cutting other people's hair I would've tried fading my shit up if I knew I was gon walk out with a half assed haircut. Friendly barber shop. Super clean. I was welcomed with smiles and plenty of jokes as I had my cut done. Vee did an outstanding job with my hair. She was also kind enough to fit me in her schedule on a busy day as a walk in. I was unaware of appointments needed on thurs-sat, but she accommodated. Those of you who only carry debit or credit cards, must know this barber shop only accepts CASH ONLY. Parking is either up front down the road a bit or directly behind the building. I have repeatedly tried to schedule an appointment during COVID. My appointment is then moved around multiple times before it is inevitably cancelled. Either this is an extremely incompetent owner who is denying themselves business, or the owner is employing others who refuse to perform their job. Don't waste your time. The cut might be good, but they charge more than most shops and apparently, don't even want to be there. read more

Wow great place for men or women barber styles. The proprietor is friendly and updated me on what services he is providing and will be offering in the future for customers. He is to have a make up artist soon.... Wow that's so groovy!! The atmosphere is calming and relaxing sounds of pop culture and beatbox mellow sounds. This location can be difficult to find as it's located on St Mary Street and Jacobs Street next to Eagle's Corner Ice Cream Shop. Parking in the back of Barber shop. My 15 year old grandson had his hair trimmed up by Daniel one of the barbers' and his comment was yep GMa this totally works for me.... and wants to go back again when his bangs get to long. read more

These folks are AWESOME! I travel full time across the United States and have a new barber for every cut so I'm always very skeptical of each barber I visit. But Frank did a fantastic job! The shop was super clean and the whole staff was very kind and welcoming. They played some great music, were really sweet with each family with kids that came in (I was there Saturday morning and there were lots of families coming in), and they were very quick and orderly (I hate when barbers are super chatty and take forever with the cut. They were courteous and conversational, but not over the top). HIGHLY recommend Southtown Barbers to anybody from San Antonio or visiting like me! read more

I was looking for a barber since I'm new in town one knows how difficult it is to find a good barber and I got it right the first time. I was greeted as if I was an existing customer. The barber that cut my hair was good but I'm sure all the barbers at this barbershop are great as I noticed all the customers who walked out with a great haircut.
