The hotel is also located very close to the docks where our Viking Rhine River cruise boat docked, although it is very difficult to walk there due to busy roadways in the area. The back of the hotel overlooks a dozen railway lines, with the docks in the background. The front of the hotel overlooks the river, and center of the city. We used Hilton honors points for our May 26-May 28, 2024 stay, and got upgraded to a fourth-floor suite, on the corner. Got the usual fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookies. Place is shaped like a triangle due to sharp angles of the building. Our unit had a spacious bathroom with separate tube and shower, a separate bedroom, and separate living room with a mini bar. Floor to ceiling windows in bedroom and living room. The living room had a sofa, desk, multiple sitting tables and view of the river. Closet without doors, as is common in Europe. One of the quirks of having a corner room is that the unit was shaped like a triangle. Opening the bathroom door would block the main door from opening. Very quiet, as we faced away from the railway tracks, and no vehicle traffic on the combination bike/pedestrian walkway in front of the river. We are Hilton Diamond members and had access to the top floor Executive Lounge, but didn't eat there. Ate downstairs at the free breakfast buffet for Hilton Gold and Diamond members, and free happy hour appetizers/snacks at the bar. The airport is accessible by surface train from the nearby Centraal Station, although if you have check-in luggage, you should take a taxi, as the train cars have very limited room to store oversized luggage, and no overhead storage compartments like airlines. They also make a large number of stops. Rated 100/100 on the walkability scale by Tripadvisor, with 174 restaurants and 67 attractions within 0.3 miles.

Service at the hotel was super friendly and helpful. We had a room overlooking the canal which was great. Room clean bed great and of course free cookies on check in. You could even rent an umbrella for a couple of days. Self serve well stocked Convience store in lobby. Don't forget rooftop terrace as well as a smaller one on floor 10. Walk to the highest room number on that floor and bring you key to access to terrace. I will review restaurants separately

I brought it up with management, and they gave me the option to upgrade to a room on the first floor, which was excellent. Very pleased they were able to do that for me, and thanks to Geoffrey for helping facilitate the move. Staff in general is prompt and helpful. The hotel is old and has a lot of that vintage charm. I believe it will appeal greatly to a certain personality type that appreciates things antiquated. The hallways evoke David Lynch and Stanley Kubrick vibes. The rooms have an imperial feel to them with the beautiful rouge wallpaper. The beds are extremely comfortable. Volume from people talking in the hallways does drift into the room easily, but luckily it seems as though most of the clientele is not the noisy type. Street noise varies. I did not add on breakfast during booking, but you're able to use your "deposit" to purchase breakfast on only the days you decide, and I would highly recommend it. Not only is there a full buffet with all breakfast types, but you can also have certain dishes to order, such as Benedict, included in the breakfast rate. Morning dining staff is attentive and friendly. As for the claims of the hotel being haunted, other than the whispering in my ear in the middle of the night, I did not experience anything paranormal. Maybe next time.

I was planning to name names but I will go ahead and leave that off. It got so bad with the customer service that I got to the point where I did not want to spend one more single cent at the hotel (which I did not). I do however really appreciate the concierge staff! They were able to help me ship my bag of priceless souvenirs from Amsterdam back to Los Angeles Angeles. I want to especially thank Andrzej for all his help and impeccable customer service! There is a safe available in the room as well, though there was no fridge. Loved all the snacks they provided, from the gummy bears in the room, to pastries and coffee in the communal area downstairs. They also provided a snack goodie bag on checkout though I forgot to pick mine up when I went back to pick up my stored luggage at the end of the day. The free coffee machine tasted amazing and had lots of options, and it saved us so much money from not having to buy coffee at cafes! The room was beautiful and you can play all types of games in the lobby. Dami at the front desk was super helpful and helped us navigate to everywhere we wanted to go. She made our trip so much better by being so helpful and telling us all about the transit and giving us lists of restaurants, events etc. She was super sweet and has incredible customer service skills! Definitely recommend this hotel.

We looked at…read moredifferent hotels and chose The Lloyd Hotel based upon price, availability, and that its dog friendly. Plus, the Lloyd Hotel was an old prison turned into an art project and 1-5 star hotel - who wouldn't want to stay there? Location: The hotel is located in east Amsterdam in the docklands. This area is an up and coming area. There's not much other than a couple of grocery stores, other household stores and a couple of restaurants. Arrival: It's a very simple arrival process. The hotel entrance is very non-descript and could be missed if you're paying attention. There's no place to park your car in front of the hotel except for the street. Bellman: There are no bellmen at the hotel to help you. So be sure you can carry your own luggage. Parking: There is a parking garage separate from the hotel. You have to push the "Lloyd Hotel" button upon entrance for your ticket since they share the garage with other offices in the area. Follow the "Lloyd Hotel" signs all the way down to the end of the garage to park. There's a stairwell that leads up to the ground level and the backside of the hotel across from the restaurant terrace. You have to pay for your parking at the hotel reception. Reception/Front Desk: It's a very small front desk which has two people. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Lobby: The "lobby" area is small, long and narrow with some couches spread out in a couple of areas. You can sit in the restaurant/cafe which is right across the reception. Room: There are 117 rooms which range from 1-5 star rooms and every room is different. We decided to go with a 4-star room and ended up with room 217. The room was long and rectangular at the end of the building. You walked into a small entry room with a table for two and a couch. You then walked into the bathroom and then into the bedroom. View: We had massive grand windows in the bedroom which looked upon a walkway. Bed: There were two twin beds which were pushed together to make a queen. The bed was comfortable. Bathroom: The bathroom was big and simple with a shower which had good pressure, sink and a toilet. Hair dryer: The dryer wasn't very strong. I'm particular about hair dryers because I have a lot of hair. Products: They had their own products and only had two bottles of shampoo and a small bar of soap. If you're staying in a 4-star room you should at least receive the basic toiletries of shower gel, conditioner, q-tips, etc. Closet: There wasn't a traditional closet in the room, but along the wall of the bathroom there were hooks with hangers you could hang your stuff. Safe: There was no safe in the room. Control Panel: N/A. Just a remote for the TV. Minibar: There was no minibar in the room. Mirrors: There were two small mirrors in the bathroom. Housekeeping: Poor. This is where I had the most complaints. 1) They didn't change the sheets and 2) They only have us one bath towel on day two. When I asked for another one they said they ran out, but very rudely said "we gave you one big towel and two small ones" and 3) We had an empty bag of potato chips and they left of on the floor. Wifi: The wifi was free and the speed was ok. Dining: We tried all three meals at the hotel restaurant cafe which were all fine. Please see my separate review of the restaurant. Spa: There was no spa at the hotel. Concierge: There isn't a traditional concierge at the hotel, but reception/front desk is very helpful and can answer any and all questions you may have. Style: The hotel is very quirky and artsy. Pet friendly: Dogs are welcome at no cost. This is the first hotel we've stayed at where our dog wasn't charged a fee. There is no bed, bowls, etc for the dog in the room, but you can't expect that since you don't have to pay. One thing though, dogs are not allowed in the room unattended which is good and bad. Good because your dog is allowed everywhere in the hotel, but bad because you have to find dog friendly places to go (other restaurants, cafes, etc) to on your trip. Luckily if you go to Amsterdam when the weather is good there are plenty of places with outside seating. Service: Overall the service is excellent (minus housekeeping) at the hotel. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Two instances: 1) Robin from reception was not only super helpful with all of our Amsterdam questions, but also found us another bath towel and delivered it personally after I shared the information I received from housekeeping. 2) Ann from the restaurant tracked me down before checking out and found a t-shirt I wanted to purchase from the hotel store when we thought they were sold out. Would I go back? Yes, depending on the price since the pricing of the rooms fluctuate. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay, but I do think it depends on your room and whether you're ok with the range of clientele in the hotel.

Considering the proximity to the train station it's fabulous that the hotel is situated off the beaten track on a lovely clean quiet street. The beds are quite comfortable with extra length, which my 6'3" husband truly appreciates. Also, we noticed that there are many tall people in the Netherlands :) The hotel has good strong WiFi connection. The hotel staff in general are efficient throughout our stay at all hours. Breakfast is included with your stay, either buffet, or with waiter service which costs extra, in the cute restaurant and lounge area near the lobby. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants in the immediate area as well as the wonderful cruise tours connecting to the many canals in this beautiful picturesque city. Bedankt voor het lezen!
