When I think about going somewhere for some ice cream, quality definitely comes to mind. Why would I go to an ice cream shop if the ice cream tastes like it's store bought? In fact, the brand that is used here is Mayfield. I was not impressed at the fact that there are no options for toppings. I literally felt like I paid $4.75 for one small scoop of store bought ice cream in a basic cone.... (waffle cones were $1 extra) I can't knock that the store is very colorful and inviting. It would make any child's day to head here for ice cream and candy. (There is an entire wall full of various candies that can be selected and weighed. I noticed it was $10.95/lb. There are also a few tables where you can sit down and eat and a TV playing kid appropriate shows, but no sound. In my overall opinion, this place is extremely overpriced but cute. It will probably generate good revenue because of the location, but there are much better ice cream shops in town. read more

I really enjoyed Southwood sweets! Got a slice of cake and a cup of Moose tracks ice cream my favorite. The girls behind the counter were nice. I love how beautifully decorated they have the store. If I had children could definitely see myself hosting a children's birthday party in their space in the back. read more

This place is awesome! They have a ton of candy you can mix and match and pay by the pound. They also have a bunch of ice cream flavors and can give you a bowl, cone, shake or whatever you want. They also sell cake by the slice and banging cupcakes. There's also a Great Wall for any selfies you want to take, and a separate party room. Staff is amazing. You have to check them out ! read more

Wonderful little place to stop in for a delicious ice cream cone or a wide selection of candy. They have a couple of tables to sit and enjoy your treat, a large screen TV for entertainment and a separate room for private kids parties. This trip I was able to sample a waffle cone with salted caramel ice cream and a scoop of cookie dough ice cream. Both were incredibly delicious! I love that they are being creative with their cake desserts... One option was Keylime cake that looked interesting but I chose peach cobbler cheesecake, no turning down cheesecake lol. Everything I tasted was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was upbeat and cherrie. Perfect place for a kids party, they have all kinds of kids play area fun equipment and an area set up for hotdogs and hamburgers etc., in other words real food for parties. A friend brought me to Southwood Sweets for a birthday treat and it was absolutely wonderful! We split the two-scoop Ice cream that came with the yelp special and it was some of the best ice cream I've had. They have very unusual flavors there like caramel and chocolate with pretzels in it and several variations on moose tracks ice cream. In addition this is just about the cutest dessert store that I've ever seen! They have fun dispensers of M&Ms with all different color choices and they have a separate party room where you get to play kid games and still get to see what's going on in the main part of the store. In the store itself they have vintage games for kids and also modern takes on games that I haven't seen before. The woman who owns the store is also an engaging and interesting person who works there with her sister and also supports a local bakery that provides their beautiful cakes and cupcakes. Definitely a place to try if you're anywhere around Southwood. It's right in the heart at merchants Row and 4 Oaks Blvd. read more

I stopped in here to see what they offered and was pleasantly surprised at the variety. It's rare to find a local candy shop like this with hours that fit my schedule let alone that can compete with larger companies that drive the prices down and put smaller companies out of business. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the home town, locally-owned experience you get. The shop has a variety of candy--new and classic styles. There are a few tables to sit at as well as a party room. They have several different types of ice cream and cones. It doesn't look like they make it there, but most places don't anyway. It's great to be able to get an ice cream cone after work! I tried one of the moose tracks flavors in a cup. It was delicious. They also have cake from a local bakery so I tried the red velvet. It was moist and tasted good. The young lady behind the counter was very sweet and polite. The store is very colorful, and when you walk in, you'll get that "kid in a candy store" feeling. I am always a butter pecan fan, so this was my initial buy. I liked the subtle saltiness and nice chunks of peacan. The only angst was there is no creaminess to the ice cream. It's light, needing...MORE cream. Good atmosphere--something new for this area. read more

This might be lengthy, so here is a summary for those who dont like reading: They charged me $1.18 for TWO small gum balls. My family went in for the first time the other day. I had two of my children with me. I told them that we were going to look and not get anything, so not to touch anything. This place has self dispensary candy along the back wall. it is super cute inside and my children get excited and run over. My son touches the gum ball nozzle and it dispenses two small gum balls. Fast as can be, he pops them in his mouth. I scold him and tell him that what he did was stealing and that is wrong. I went to the clerk and told her what happened and asked how much I owed, expecting it to be like $.25. The lady tells me we have to put the gum balls in a bag and weigh them.... Then pay based on the price..... I go along with this, still thinking, this will be well under a dollar, and kind of surprised that she was making us go through this whole procedure since my son had all but consumed them. She weighs the two small gum balls and rings up the total.... IT WAS $1.18! I'm shocked by this and say how crazy expensive that is. I pay. We leave, saying we won't be back since this place has outrageous prices. The sad thing is that my initial plan in going in was to check it out and then come back after we had dinner to treat everyone to ice cream. If this clerk had any customer service, they would have invested that $1.18 into future business. They throw away at least that amount of candy every time they fill those containers up. This place is......AMAZING!!!! I walked in and the entire ambiance was so inviting and friendly!!! The cupcakes are to DIE FOR!!! The hours are great too! Definitely the place to take kiddos for an after school treat!! Highly recommend!!! read more
