Sova is a terrific food pantry source. Sometimes you get to pick something additionally on the way out you didn't expect, some non food item. I love those times! They give you so much food you have to bring a cart, something with wheels it will be well into 40 pounds of food. Canned food, veggies, fruits, meat, rice or pasta, enough for at least 2 weeks! You have to register and wait in line until your next visits you can book appointments online and avoid the line but you will need to park your car on the street. So, even though they are a terrific resource, it is like excercise for people like me who are elderly and disabled. But Sova is great and so are their people. Definitely like fam! and worth going. read more

I've been going to Sova and all the times were great except yesterday I had a bad experience at the new location. I saw a long line blocking the traffic and I did not realize it was the line for Sova as each time I go there's no line. I passed the place then had to come back so by the time I made it back it was 2:45 and they close at 3. The security guard told me they are done to come back tomorrow at noon. First I called Sova before leaving my house and they did not answer. I drive from northridge ended up wasting my gas and time. I will not go at the drive by location until they move to the previous location. Also they say they are open from 1 to 3 then they should be open I called Sova again and left message about what happened but no one called me back. read more

My wife and I have been going to SOVA for years. SOVA is now located On Sherman Way just past Kester if you're heading east. Since they've been at this location My wife and I have been there four times. Each of the four times there has been a car accident because of people cutting in the line. My wife and I get there an hour and 15 minutes early so that we are at the front line, and there's not as much stress. What people are doing now, is waiting till they start the line and then rush with their cars to the front of the line, cut people off, and cause accidents. The last time my wife and I went there I had enough. I got out of my car and told the lady that had just cut me off, that It was Not OK what she had done. One of the employees from SOVA came and yelled at me. Telling me to get back in my car and that it doesn't matter that she cut in line causing an accident. The lady said she was the Director of SOVA, and then her name was Britanny. My wife proceeded to film Britanny as she was telling us this. Britanny said we can't video her because it's a HIPAA violation. The last time I checked HIPAA had to do with the privacy of patients and medical records and things like that, Nothing to do with Food bank stuff. Needless to say, my wife and I have not been back to SOVA and it's really sad because they have the best food. But my wife's and my safety are more important than food. I will say this though, the two security guards named Lamont and Kenny are really great and I will miss them. Hopefully SOVA can figure out a new process to make it more safe for people To get food, and hopefully they get rid of Britanny! read more

Not baby friendly this place denies help to a sick 1 yr old lady told me to go home because my baby has been sick wanted us to sit outside in the cold. Now how do I feel my other children. They help homeless with other illness but not families in need looking for a place to report them. read more

This organization is a great way to help low income families get free food and a little of other stuff. I would definitely spread the word out about Sova organization and make sure that families in need of help and other financial problems know about this place and go there to get assistance. Sova is also help people find jobs and give out free books and some toys for kids. The staff are very helpful and sweet and they would try their best to get you what ever you need and make sure everyone gets service for their needs. read more

One of a few FOOD BANKS run by SOVA, since I decided to post a number of resources for low income and homeless people on YELP, I thought I'd include this one, which I know has been of help to others I've met in recent years. Just like the Saint Charles Borromeo North Hollywood Service Center has no requirement that you be Catholic, SOVA, run under the Jewish Family Services umbrella, does not require that you be JEWISH. But if you are JEWISH and keep Kosher, they may have more food for you than other Food Banks. This place does not provide showers, hot meals, or clothes on site. Ask them about a voucher for clothing at one of the thrift shops if you're in need. This is also a home of Bet Zedek, the legal advisory. SOVA, and some other food pantries, have split up territory by zip code, so you may want to confirm that you're in a zip code they service. But remember they have other locations as well. read more

It is a great place that helps you get back on your feet. There is a lot of resources that one might need you will be directed to the right place. This review is regarding my 2nd visit to SOVA. Unfortunately, this visits rates lower than the inaugural visit. The food I received today was so sparse and of poor quality, that by nightfall, I was so hungry that I was miserable! Among the items I received were bananas that were so overripened, that they were mushy and open. Also, muffins and bagels that were thrown together in a plastic bag and resembled mush! Of the non-food items, I received a pack of CVS face wipes that were bone dry! There were other non edible food items in the bag as well, and seriously, they were truly not edible. I know that SOVA means well, but it is not helping when the items that you give away cannot be used. read more

Horrible treatment toward clients there. I can generally say they do not care about your well being, A little old lady spoke to me in such a disrespectful, dehumanizing tone it was utterly heartbreaking. They do not have respect for the poor and view them as a nuisance to society and lower than their " rich class" yes ..it's true. They like to bully their poor hungry clients. Both done it to myself and I've seen it done to others. I've also heard them mutter under their breath to me before "get an education" when they have no idea what's going on in my life. And I have a BFA. How dare they judge me. I've also noticed no black people go in there. Why is that? ?? I think we know why. They're racist. read more

This place is an amazing place for a food bank. A lot of the items I have gotten from here came from trader joes. There is no guarantee you will get that product every time. You have to arrive early. Parking is limited. read more

Hi! Sova .... I must say I generally love your food service but you treat some of the homeless with less concern and greater attention and better quality of food is given to the address one's. You even give homeless people food and drinks from 2014 and 2015? I am asenior and need fresh food to maintain my health and energy. Everyone should be treated eq where their health is concern. I care extra about my health because i am trying to locate a good place to live. Water, juice, sandwiches etc. Your people tell some of us we don't have any sandwiches etc. When the food truck just left the facility! This is not the first time it's regular and routine. Please, as a civilize human being STOP! This kind of unfair treatment of homeless people because we still need good food and not a lot of cangoods. I came to SOVA to get help enrolling for Medi-Cal and I walked into a packed office and stood at the front desk where two people sat and didn't greet me or speak. In front of them was a sign in clipboard. My mom slid the sign in clipboard towards her to sign in and an old man whose nametag read "volunteer" snatched the clipboard from my mother and he exclaimed "JEEEZSUS!". He was extremely rude and another volunteer/ employee saw it and said "yeah, he's funny" ..etc.. I didn't know "funny" was interchangeable for RUDE. I kindly asked for instruction for those who are enrolling for health insurance and a woman swooped us up and directed us to the proper office. What a nasty old man. Why volunteer if you're not going to reflect the warm, kind and caring attitude the SOVA claims to have?? I can't imagine how he treats those who are HUNGRY and need the food drive, bless them! I give 3 stars because Katie in the Medi-Cal office was kind and knowledgeable. read more
