    Deer Creek Cemetery

Cemeteries. I like them or dislike them. Usually for the same reasons. It's only a matter of…read moretiming. I recently lost a long-time friend to ovarian cancer. I stopped by Deer Creek to pay my respects and say my own goodbyes. Deer Creek is much bigger than I expected. It may have been the lack of trees or tall bushes that can break up the long site-lines in a typical cemetery, but the gravestones seemed to go on forever, up and down the small slopes. The grounds were spotted with dashes of color from the flags or flowers placed near the markers. I noticed the well-paved, large roads that take visitors to all corners of the grounds. There are street signs and street names on the intersections. I've not ever noticed that before in a cemetery, but it gives it the feeling of a small town. If I consider, also, the other markers designating areas within those blocks, almost like house numbers, I suppose it is like a mini-town. A well-laid out town. Bittersweet. As I roamed, looking for the one place I needed, I saw the well-groomed grass and nicely maintained grounds. You can move from the older to the more recent without noticing. Deer Creek obviously chooses not to save money by letting things becomes overgrown. Good job. After several minutes, I gave up and stopped by the office to ask for directions. The man working that day found the information on the computer, gave me the location, and pointed me in the general direction. Fewer than 5 minutes. Efficient. It's a nice cemetery. Next time I'm in the area, I may like it. But right now, in this moment, at this time: I dislike it. Cancer sucks.

Many families choose to meet on their own time at a special place to scatter the ashes. If you would like a memorial ceremony after the cremation, you can plan it right away or weeks in the future. Traditional funerals with burial services are a popular option. And if your family is more casual, you can choose a life celebration format. With music and dancing, this party atmosphere is sometimes preferred. There are a variety of funeral products offered for purchase, including vaults, memorials, keepsakes, caskets, urns, thumbies, and pendants. You may choose to transfer the body to another state for burial, and the funeral home can take care of the transport process. Families who have used the funeral home rave about their compassionate care and attention to detail.

He was NOT in the least consoling or comforting at a time that is so deeply hurtful. He only added to my stress. A meeting with him to address these issue was met with distant and some inane explanations for his actions. At no time did he offer any semblance of an apology. Subsequent meeting with the owner was very much respectful and empathetic to my dismay and anger at Jeff's demeanor. There is a problem with communication policy/practice at Slater's. Events must be conveyed to bereaved individuals in a thorough and specific manner. This led to much confusion and stress for me. My husband had a grey/black mustache which became a black smudge for his viewing. I could understand if there was an accident but just be honest. Slater's as whole was good BUT the Funeral Director needs to find another career choice. Simply believe he has been doing this for 30 plus years and lacks empathy and common courtesy when interaction with his customers. Truly truly a sad state.

I have been to many many funeral homes, and not one of them can compete with Slater's. You will never hear one bad review of Slater's.
