To say this place wins the award for the 3rd best hibachi (teppanyakj) restaurant in Statesboro GA is not the compliment many would believe it is. There is a misconception in that people pronounce Soyumi as "so yummy" but after tasting the food, I think it should be pronounced "soy umi". (Umi in Japanese means sea or ocean) because they douse all their seafood in soy sauce or teriyaki so much, it kills the flavor of what you're eating. This place is nice but it close from 1-4. I really wanted to try this place so I stayed. Until it open at 4pm. This is pricey. I paid $20 for this rice with shrimp/steak. The crab salad was really good. It was all crab now this is worth it. The soft crab was even better! I walked in looked at the sign for directions to go. I order my food. My friend and I went to try this place on a Saturday at lunch. Samara was our waitress and she great. She was friendly, attentive, and took great care of us. She got our drinks right away and brought the table these little fried wonton strips (I think) and this really yummy dipping sauce. I got the cheeseburger egg roll and the bento box. My friend ordered the Korean wings and the pineapple rice bowl. Everything came out fast and the food was fantastic. We were just so impressed by everything. The sushi here was good. Presentation was beautiful, but menu options lacked. We ordered a variety of rolls, some were really good, some I would never order again. Something with mango in it had this cream in it and was way too sweet. Also, the volcano roll, had a smoked fish tasting fajita seasoning on the top. This was highly unusual. Im used to volcano rolls with spice crab meat on top. I wish they had traditional sushi and sashimi combos. I think I would've been happier with a bento box and just ordered the simple rolls. Those were really good. The yellowtail was sooo fresh! I would eat here again! Just would focus on the simpler menu items. read more

Best sushi in the Boro. Always trying new things. This is my regular spot in Statesboro for sushi. Why do I prefer this place over others? Quality of the fish (I eat raw sushi) and rice vinegar seasoned rice. These two things are crucial for me in a good sushi place. My favorite roll is the tofu skin avocado roll. Creamy and always a hit! They also have gluten-free soy sauce in to go packets! I also appreciate that they are always trying to spice things up with new menu options and events. To my knowledge they were the first place in the Boro to have a Poke bowl option (huge sushi trend recently). They have good happy hour drinks and specials. They also do sushi roll events and tap takeovers. My favorite new menu item however had been the Vybes drinks with CBD oil. They are expensive and run out, but if you can, check out the blueberry mint or strawberry lavender flavors. Those are our favorites! Next time: I'm trying the Hawaiian roll, as seen on their IG. There aren't a ton of nicer restaurants in the Boro, so my boyfriend & I often come here for our celebratory dinners/anniversaries/birthdays, etc. We love the unique menu & the sushi menu is incredible. I have a hard time comparing it to anywhere else around because it's on another level. We love the pineapple fried rice. Something about cracking your own egg on the skillet makes it that much more delicious & fun. The fried noodle baskets in lieu of bread or chips to start are a nice touch. I've also had the ramen, which is also outstanding. I've been to Japan & to me, it's pretty authentic! We've tried a variety of the sushi on the menu & have never been disappointed. 'Some of the flavor combos are a little different, but to me, that's what makes this place so special! It's such a fun fusion & progression of American Asian cuisine. The only menu item I'm not a HUGE fan of is the sushi pizza. A little too much cream cheese for my taste, but I recognize that's subjective which is why it doesn't affect my review. Service is always friendly, they're great at accommodating any food allergies (avocado for me), & overall we leave each time full, happy, and looking forward to our next return. read more

Whenever I see a restaraunt flouting a "best of" award, my immediate response is "I'll see". So, when my eldest daughter recommended Soyumi Asian Kitchen for lunch, my sceptical side was stoked upon noticing a similar designation, so named by none other than fellow Yelp users, proudly displayed at the entrance. Game on. The atmosphere was pleasant and we were promptly seated by friendly staff members. My cell phone refused to download the menu when I scanned the icon at our table (my daughter had no such trouble); however, our wait staff promptly provided a paper menu, which seemed more appropriate for my old dad self, in any case. While making our decisions, we snacked on complementary fried won tons with duck sauce, which did indeed inspire us to order the Korean BBQ wings as an appetizer. And, that turned out to be a good choice. The crispy chicken wings, coated in a honey and lime sauce, were worthy of a main course, let alone the harbinger of a full meal. So, what to choose, what to choose? The Traditional Pork Belly Ramen caught my eye, and piqued my curiosity, if for no other reason that I wanted to see what could possibly be done with the lowly, 98 cent at any supermarket, Ramen noodle. And, see I did. Trust me when I say the flavorful broth was something you likely won't replecate at home, just for staters. The pork strips were at least five inches long, slightly thick, equally crispy and packed with flavor. Added to the mix was genuine crab meat (not monk fish, a.k.a. immatation crabmeat) , seaweed,(unwrinkle your nose and just try it already) which provided a delicious, salty accent, broccoli and a hard boiled egg (which normally I avoid; but, it worked very well here) and, of course, plenty of Ramen noodles that, yes, in the final analysis, I was more than happy to pay $14.00 for. My daughter chose the Bento Box, raved about everything (which doesn't always happen) and let me sample the chicken and soup. Although I had only one piece, I was amazed with the juicy, tangy, chicken that had a slight crispy exterior. Both meals, and the appetizer, were just under $40.00, before the tip. This was a true bargain for a meal that more than lived up to that "best of" award I mentioned earlier. Five stars, all around. read more

Wonderful bowls of Miso soup, followed by excellent Tuna poke bowl by Adam and next the delicious sushi pizza! Then for dessert an over the top tempura cheesecake to finish things up! Wow folks! This was a wonderful meal with the family at a great new place in Statesboro. Thank you Adam for preparing amazing food and Rachel for taking care of us like family. This was our third visit to Soyumi and each visit is better than the last! The Tuna Poke was new, delicious and a fresh and flavorful treat. My husband and I decided to try this restaurant Despite the reviews. It was horrible but excellent service. Started off ordering edamame it was so soggy that the out side shell was falling off. How in the world can you mess that up . Then we ordered the Steak and Shrimp it was disgusting. The steak did not even taste like beef and we travel a lot and this was the worst steak we have ever had. We could not even think what it taste like. The shrimp also had a funky taste like it soaked in some kind of salt water like the veggies that was served with the meal. The bar area was some what busy so they must make good drinks. Walked in and was greeted by a very nice hostess and seated at a table with a great server who was attentive and helpful with my special requests. The ramen: disappointing maybe 2 stars. The broth tastes instant. The noodles were stuck together. The pork was tough and chewy. Sounds horrible. It wasn't. It was average fast food. Needs some work or take it off the menu. The nigiri: I ordered 4 nigiri selections. Yellowtail was great. Salmon was great. Ikura was great. Eel was small, had some pin bones and was not sauced/grilled well. The rice on all of them was not sticking together and broke apart when I lifted the pieces. The maki: I ordered a Honolulu roll but didn't want salmon in it and the waitress suggested spicy tuna instead. It was great. Well fried, not greasy or tough. read more

This was our first visit to Soyumi. Took our granddaughters for a special meal. Bad mistake. Service was bad, server was as very nice, but must have had friends at another table as she spent most of her time standing at their booth talking to them. When we finally got our order, the steak was cold. However worse was my wife's and granddaughter's pineapple rice with grilled chicken. The chicken had the taste and texture of processed chicken. Service was nice and I prefer a sushi bar so it was nice to have a nice large and open sushi bar. I was treated to a nice appetizer on the bar. The chef was nice and helpful. All of the staff seemed on their game even being so new of an establishment. I really like the atmosphere and the soft but trendy background music. He asked if this was my first visit there and after I told him it was my second we got to talking about a couple things. He mentioned that he remembered me from before which I questioned in my mind but when I left his response was if they had taken the spicy off as requested this time. When management reads reviews and then makes adjustments to the establishment and then months later makes sure that I had my needs met from a review..... I can assure you that the place will thrive! I had good things to say before this visit and have sent people to eat there but I'm absolutely convinced that this place will be a favorite by many including myself. This place is good and generally is consistent with flavor and quality. The only reason we didn't give 5 stars is because for one, our order has been wrong several times, when you get takeout they don't put the lids on the sauces tight enough and it spills everywhere and therefore becomes unusable, they up charge their prices when you order on doordash. They basically add $1-$2 to every item you order. You can compare the doordash menu to their online menu and see that it's the truth. But if you're ok with all that the food is good! We love the sushi and the bento boxes are a good deal. The serving sizes aren't huge but they are generous. We are returning customers here and will continue to be so long as the food stays good and the service is kind. read more

However, when I ask them to "make it spicier than you'd feel safe serving, then make it even spicier" it's never been quite as spicy as I'd like, but that's a personal thing. Received a very friendly greeting from the bartender as we came in the door. Nothing against Georgia sushi but being from NY the sushi was fair or maybe I should say different. That doesnt mean it wasn't tasty. Service a fair too. I would have ordered a second Saki but the first took 15 minutes to heat up. The portion was very good. The sushi dinner came on a boat with all the fixins. The sushi was cut generous. Some places you'll get very thin sushi with little rice. Not here, large cut of fish with just the amount of rice. I would definitely go back but order my Saki on top of each other or sit at the bar. read more

My husband and I came here with a college friend of his to give it a shot. Walking in the atmosphere was nice and calm, the staff was friendly and explained when questions arises and the service was great. Sadly, that's where the good things about Soyumi began to end. My husband and I ordered a starter platter of Gyoza as well as our entrees: mine a steak rice bowl lunch and his a pepper steak plate, both with a side of miso soup. Our soup arrived soon after, but when looking at said soup, it didn't look right to me, everything separated easily. It tasted very bland, I could hardly taste the onion and seaweed. We were then served our Gyoza, which was alright, but the dipping sauce was a tad salty. Then, we received our entrees, and right out of the get go there were problems. One of them being that the waiter neglected to ask my husband how he wanted his egg cooked, resulting in his egg being runny and still mildly raw. His steak was too salty as well as his noodles, which were also a bit undercooked. My bowl of rice and steak with steamed vegetables looked pretty, and the meat was cooked medium well, but that's where the good stopped. The rice was overcooked, under seasoned and tasted old, the sauce on it felt like it was an attempt in hiding that.About halfway, if even, into the meal my stomach started to hurt so I had to stop. After reading the reviews and seeing the back and forth I decided to try for myself. Wonton chips are a great addition that's brought to the table to snack on while waiting. Our server Ian was awesome and I'm not just being biased because we share the same name. The food was so so. I had the Japanese ramen with chicken. The broth is great as was the chicken. The noodles reminded me of microwave ramen. My guest had the general Tsang's chicken with fried rice. The order was slightly off arriving with regular white rice but we were hungry and didn't want to wait. The dish was rather bland for the most part.
