Best Chinese in HHI! My family ate here last night and we eat here at least twice while on vacation on the island. The food is so flavorful and plenty of it. This may sound strange, but the water is amazing IYKYK. I swear I want to try all the items on the menu. So far my favorites are the Lo mien and the walnut shrimp. The pricing for the spring rolls (just 2) was priced at $8.95. I felt that was a bit too high for only getting 2. The scallion pancakes were delicious. I ordered the pineapple rice and without asking what it consisted of was my own fault. It had shrimp, beef and chicken along with fried egg, pineapple and peas in the rice. There were several stars to tonight's dinner including the entree of kung pao chicken and the chicken soup dumplings. They were both well seasoned and spiced without being overly hot. The serving size was pretty impressive too. The other dish i really enjoyed was the garlic cucumber dish. It was extra garlicky and crunchy. Yum! The hot and sour soup was ok in my opinion. A little bland in comparison to the other dishes. The service was slow only because there is only one person working the floor. We waited a long time between water refills and overall customer care. Our new favorite spot in Hilton Head! We first tried E-Tang in Savannah and were pleasantly surprised to see this location in Hilton Head. It's much newer but the food is just as good. Service is better than the Savannah one. We ordered the cumin lamb (it's not on the menu but the server got it done), and the flaming beef. The kids had the dumplings and Dan-dan noodles which were both great. The inside is very cozy and comfortable and has a very relaxed vibe. Prices may seem high upfront but the dishes are meant to be shared and you'll likely go home with leftovers so you should totally do it! read more

My family visited E-Tang tonight. This is a cute restaurant, which had zero wait. We were seated right away. They serve beer and wine only. We ordered hot and sour soup, which was flavorful, hot and full of vegetables as well as a wonton soup, which my husband enjoyed. He ordered the egg rolls and we all tried some and enjoyed them greatly. We ordered two orders of the pork soup dumplings, which were nice but not the best we have ever had. We also ordered chicken lo mein, which was more flavorful than the average lo mein elsewhere. We also ordered Mongolian beef. The beef was well prepared. I would prefer a more balanced ratio between beef and onion, but it was all very good. I highly recommend checking this place out while in Hilton Head. read more

I went around 5pm and the place was empty. The service was fast and I ordered a cheese wonton (crab rangoons) at the resturant and they were really good! The server was really attentive and the resturant looked nice. However, I ordered the House Special Lo Mein, Wonton Soup, and Egg Drop Soup togo. I would not recommend the lo mein, the beef is low quality and has no color or taste. The noodles are really starchy, a little too greasy, and not that much flavor. They are flatter denser noodles. The wonton wrapper in the wonton soup was so thick and floury, again not flavorful. The egg drop soup was standard and nothing to complain about. The entree prices were just as I expected, however $6 for egg drop soup is a bit expensive in my opinion. For the quality I got, the price was not worth it. read more

This is a second location of a place in Savannah that promises food that is more Chinese than Chinese American. The crowd here was very Hilton Head, but the place has quality food. The menu is slightly different than the other location, but the ma po tofu is a staple that I was happy to find. The version here is clearly of quality, with visible fermented beans and the bright contrast of spicy chili oil with the tingling, numbing sensation that can only be produced by Sichuan pepper. I got some lightly flavored tea to wash it down. The surrounding island has plenty of natural beauty, but despite its excessive development, not a ton of interesting, vegetarian-friendly restaurants. So finding this place here is a boon. read more

First time here, at the suggestion of my sister, who lives on HHI; I was a little underwhelmed, but I could have ordered the wrong things, or it could have been that I'm used to very excellent Asian food elsewhere. The cheese wontons (essentially crab rangoon) were excellent--very fresh, very real ingredients and hot; the spring rolls, however, were more like a vegetarian egg roll--the wrapper was not translucent rice paper--it was an egg roll wrapper, something I was unfamiliar with for a "spring roll". The scallion pancakes were doughy and not flavorful. Ditto for the pork bao buns--they were good size and the filling was tasty, but the dough was a bit underdone. My BIL had the spicy cumin beef, which he very much enjoyed and Sis had the house lo mein, which was delicious. I ordered the orange chicken (I really wanted some Udon noodle dishes, but none were on the menu), which came with white rice and some broccoli. The sauce was pretty thick and orangey with fresh orange peel and had pretty good spice that kicked you after a few bites; if you don't like spice, ask for it without or you won't be able to finish the dish; portions are huge. Again, I'd go back a second time if only to try other dishes that appealed to me. Note: no cocktails (I was hoping for a Mai Tai), as they only serve beer and wine. We were the only ones in there after a round of golf (around 3:15pm) but several take out orders were streaming in while there. We've been here twice now -- once several years ago when they were new and recently because the reviews were very positive. The first time, the food was terrible. We also ordered steamed dumplings and received less than 1 tbsp of the sauce. The dumplings were below satisfactory and after two, the accompanying sauce was gone! This last time, I ordered beef with garlic sauce and my husband Generals Tso Chicken plus steamed dumplings requesting extra sauce. The food was subpar and the beef w garlic sauce was the worst ever. They told us they gave extra dipping sauce for the dumplings, but once again, there was less than a tbsp of it. I do not know where the rave reviews come from unless they are made up but the owners. It's really the worst Chinese food we have ever had and we will not ever go back. We prefer Asian Bistro on New Orleans Rd where the food is delicious and has been for the 15 years we've been going there. Plus we get plenty of sauce for the delicious steamed dumplings. read more

I also had the Noodles with Minced Pork, that was okay. Wanted to try it since it was listed as an appetizer, so not upset about one item not being great. I had the stir fries spicy beef which she recommended and I really enjoyed it, my wife had the shrimp with broccoli which she enjoyed too. I will definitely revisit again. When you are in desperate need for something different than seafood, this is your go to place! Casual atmosphere, great food, and great service. It was a nice reprieve from the usual seafood pasta, and oysters found everywhere else on the island (not that I'm complaining about that!!). He said it had an underlying smokey flavor that was different then the other ones he had before. The egg rolls were absolutely delicious! Now the beef and broccoli. Blah. I won't get that again. It was so bland and the meat was tough and chewy. It just lacked flavor... salt... anything. And the broccoli was semi overcooked and chewy. Good came out little st a time Tried one on Oglethorpe it was even more nosier and chaotic Worm looking inside which included the most chipped plates I have ever seen. Staff seemed confused. I went twice while on my visit to Hilton Head. I've tried the teriyaki chicken, cucumber salad, general tso's chicken and pan fried gyoza. The only one I wouldn't order again would be the cucumber garlic salad. The amount of garlic overpowers everything and totally kills the palate. It could stand to use a little more soy and maybe mirin for some sweetness and a lot less garlic. The service is great! No complaints there. Solid stop for Asian food if you're looking. read more

Whenever I come to HH, I try to stick with the local cuisine (seafood and low country). Also being an Asian who loves Asian food, I get skeptical when I see high ratings for places not really in it's elements. Its absolutely hilarious how many say this place is 'authentic', but it wasn't even close. I know Chinese food and what all the different provinces offers, but this was typical Chinese American. I don't blame the restaurant, they're catering their food to what Americans want. Some of their Szechuan dishes are decent, but you can tell they dumb it down for certain palates. Never had hot & sour soup so thin and with sesame oil before. I love sesame oil, but it totally masks the 'sour' part which gives it so much flavor. I hate to give a place a low rating when it's not really their fault; unfortunately Yelp reviews let me down. read more

Not sure what happened the day we went, as we found this quite possibly to be the worse experience of asian flavor we might have ever had. And this was surprising due to all of the powerfully positive solid 4+ star reviews! First, it's sneaky in the way it looks like the establishment closed a while ago. Secondly, while clean inside it does look a bit like they forgot what they were doing with the decor halfway through design concept. Thirdly and perhaps most importantly, food lacked luster, flavor and warmth. We were starving and continued to eat because our hunger blinded our common sense, and that was about the only good thing going for the dumplings, bao, and mongolian beef. Maybe it was an off time or day, or just our own tastebuds....but we wont be back. The waitstaff was delightful, however, and a star for that alone. read more

We ate a meal at E-Tang Okatie a month ago that was above average and decided to give this location a try as it was closer to our home. The experience could not have been more different. It is less pleasant as it feels older and uninviting. We ordered the Cashew Shrimp which was below average. The sauce was too thick and bland although the food was well prepared. The Orange Chicken was dry with a thick unpalatable sauce with the orange peel added. Not a dish I would order again. The Mongolian Beef with fried rice consisted of 90% onions and very little beef. When we addressed the matter with the server and hostess, the reply was that this is the way they present it. No effort was made to even rectify the situation. $22.95 for a plate of onions is a a bit rich and to boot, it lacked flavor. The Pepper Steak with Lo Mein was the best of the four dishes and if I were ever to return, which is pretty unlikely, I would order this. As a side note, the dish had too too many red and green peppers in it. As a rating it would get a two and a half at best but I will not be spending my hard earned cash here again. read more
