I yelped spas near me and this one was first on the list. I left a message a little while before they opened and the owner called me back shortly after their advertised open hour. She gave me two time choices and I snatched one up. I'm new to town and didn't know what to expect. Very pleasant surprise to find such a quaint, clean and exquisite spa experience. It is housed in an historic home and the owner (Starla) has been very careful to stay true to its origins. The creaky hardwood floors are beautiful and Starla has even commissioned a line of candles with names that are tied to the various inhabitants of the home and adjoining carriage house. When I arrived they offered me wine but discovered the last client drank all the red. They literally drove to the store and bought some for me. I kind of felt bad about this but took two sips of the wine while getting a phenomenal mani/pedi and I got over it super fast! Mani/Pedi details: Disclaimer- don't go when you are in a hurry. This is a true spa experience. It is luxurious but not quick. I.am.a.wet.noodle. I don't even know all the things that she did to my legs and feet because I was in a massage-induced stupor. But, my feet look amazing and I kind of want to buy new flip flops to celebrate. My fingers look great and as a treat for a first time guest she included a complimentary hand/arm massage by Dana. This lady has SKILLZ. That was an amazing few minutes of heavenly kneading! I will be going back for more of that- definitely! When I was checking out, Starla informed me about their monthly membership. Drop Stitchfix, eat at home more often, forget the pricy lattes and sign up for the membership. Brittany was looking for a place to spend our 4th anniversary. She had in mind a massage, facial, and pedicure. When Brittany reached out to the Spa at Bell House, she was told that the aesthetician might be unavailable on the Saturday we were requesting but that she would call us back in 10 minutes. 10 minutes later we received a phone call confirming all services could be offered and that they would see us as on the date and time requested. We arrived with a bottle of Prosecco in hand and were given the standard health questionnaire for first-time visitors. We were then led into the main floor couples massage room where I started with a facial and Brittany was given her massage. My first facial was strange. For anyone that has ever had a car detail and paint correction that is the only way I can compare it to. You start off removing all the old impurities - soap, astringent. Then you move through all the grades of "removal agents" Think sandpaper or exfoliants. Then it's buffing/waxing and polishing - hydrating, lotions, etc. I thought 1 hour of this, and I'm going to look like I was in a wind storm in a desert. Surprisingly I had a hand massage, shoulder massage, scalp massage and my face thoroughly worked on. I don't know if I'd seek another one out, but that's because of the service I received, it's just not my thing. I do have to note I was so relaxed during the facial that I passed out and was only aware of falling asleep when I snorted myself awake. Back to back massages I'm sure is taxing for any therapist and while I like deep tissue massages this one was more for relaxation, and I enjoyed it. We then went to get our pedicures. One of the chairs was broken so we had to hop back and forth during the visit. We managed to get through it and had an excellent time. The conversation was great amongst ourselves and the staff. Summarizing the service - this place is a day spa - think of it like that. If you want a quick pedicure or an in and out massage see Massage Envy or any nail place that dots every strip mall across this state. If you want to be pampered, get away from the hustle and bustle and just relax. I wholeheartedly say to check out the staff at the Spa at Bell House you won't regret it. read more

Really enjoyed the Spa at BellHouse, I was booked for a Swedish massage and my cousin got a facial. We were greeted outside and asked to complete a questionnaire and have our temperature taken. (COVID procedure) I appreciated the extra step which told me that they are taking precautions for their employees and clients benefit. I can't remember the therapist name, but she did an excellent job. The amount of pressure was just right and she checked in with me regularly to ensure that I was comfortable. It was a little different than what I'm used to (she starts the massage face up) but it was still very relaxing and stress just melted away! Really enjoyed that she wrapped my feet in hot towels and that she massaged my face scalp and ears while my feel were getting the warm towel treatment. The room was dimly lit, with soft New Age music playing in the background. Once my service was over I was able to relax in the treatment room for a few minutes without feeling rushed to get out. After I was dressed and paid up I was invited to sit out on the porch for a few minutes and enjoyed a nice glass of wine and some fruit. It was a nice and unexpected end to the experience. Though I am not from the area I have been getting massages for years and I'd say they measure up to many of the bigger city spas in service and atmosphere. One advantage over the big cities - their pricing is well below what you'd pay in Durham Chapel Hill or Raleigh for the comparable service. When I am back in the area I will definitely come here again. read more

Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me. I've been to Spa at Bell House twice now and was disappointed both times. I've had a manicure and a pedicure at other salons in half the amount of time this place takes. The first appointment took nearly THREE HOURS for a manicure and pedicure. Today, I was very clear that I needed to leave within an hour and the staff told me no problem... an hour later and I was still not finished! I would avoid this place at all costs. read more

The staff is polite, friendly, and professional. If I am ever under any time constraints, I communicate them clearly when I check in, and have never had an issue. I couldn't even get them to honor an appointment that they set with me. I think that they did not want to honor the gift certificate that I had so they claimed, "Honey, that appointment was yesterday." Instead of offering me another appointment or saying that she was sorry there must have been a communication problem, she just showed me the door. I've been more than twice- the first time, an endless 3-hour leg wax that didn't seem to "take" for some reason. They didn't charge me for a full-leg- only a half-leg- and the technician was apologetic so I didn't stress. During that visit, I paid for some product that was out of stock and would be coming in "soon"- waited three months, never came in. Wasn't offered a refund. I went in and took another cream, rather than the one I had ordered (ridiculous). Another time, went in for another leg wax (different tech), and a brow and lash tint. Technician aced all three, and was pleasant, but I was overcharged for the services by 20 dollars. Didn't realize this until I went home. Over the phone, I was offered a 20 dollar "credit" for my "next visit" rather than a refund for the overcharged amount. Frankly, that is nuts, and not professional- but I didn't fight it, because I tend to be a wuss and avoid conflict most of the time (ha, and I make mistakes repeatedly, apprently). And really, no decent spa would split hairs over 20 dollars- I was a bit stunned. So I called recently- today actually- to schedule a quick brow and lash dye (use my "credit"), and they couldn't work me in (would have cost barely 40 bucks- not a costly service). So, here out I will just take my money to Durham for that service, and anything complicated, for that matter. But I have been getting an **amazing** fast full leg wax at a local Pittsboro nail salon (near Lowe's Home Improvement) for about the same cost, but so much better (she doesn't miss a thing); not to mention, these guys also do a fabulous, flawless, FAST, *autoclaved* manicure for less money (although it is more expensive than a very cheap, non-sterilized nail salon, which will also give you MRSA or nail fungus free of charge). And they are friendly, good people. If only they dyed brows and lashes, right?! So, if you want a really good massage, I suggest trying local independent therapists until you find a great match (I did). If you need a wax, check out the place I mentioned above. But surprisingly, this "spa" does not meet any of my needs, I feel I've wasted at least a little cash, and I would not recommend them. I would much rather tip the extra money directly to my technician, rather than pay more to spend more time than necessary in rather unremarkable, if attractive, place to get basic services. read more
