I have been one of Alisa's many dedicated clients for over a year and a half. I cannot say enough positive things about her. She is passionate about what she does, knowledgable, friendly, and always has my best interest at heart. My brazilian waxes are quick and PAINLESS. Alisa doesn't use painful cloth strips. Wow oh wow. I have worked in the spa industry for 10 years before changing careers and I have never seen/experienced anything as bad as Spa Josephine. Let me count the ways in which she ruined my weekend 1. She called on Friday to confirm a Saturday appt for 11am. She showed up at 1130am. 2. In fear that I would be charged for my appt, I did not leave and was met with not an apology, but rudeness about my calling about my appointment. 3. Further in fear that I would be charged, I actually got on the table only to experience one of the worst facials of my life. She was sloppy and use abrasive products and then proceeded to go on and on about my roseasea, which I have never been told I have. 4. She also made super creepy comments about me being a "ginger" and how she's read all these books about "gingers" and how we are extinct. There was no relaxing in this treatment, she wanted to talk and talk about why I wasn't married or what I did for work etc. 5. I asked for a brow and lash tint + the european facial (95$ --I'll get to the checkout later!) and during the brow tint, she asked "do you want me to clean it up" assuming she meant pluck a few --- no, the next thing I feel is full wax on my eyelid- after she destroyed my eyebrows and took me back to the 90s (RIP eyebrows) she started the lash tint and had the worst techniuqe getting most of the dye in my eyes and not properly rinsing them out. 6. After this horrendous part, she starts the sloppy (literally felt like she was slapping products and not paying attention to where my eyes or mouth were) facial. It was abrasive and uncomfortable to say the least. Finally, she finishes and we go to check out. I'll admit this part is my fault becuase I should have spoken up but she then charged me $40 for some "custom" treatment which I assumed was my unwanted brow wax- then she charged me for the signature facial ($135) instead of the one I asked for so my bill was amost $100 more than I was expecting. 7. And this is an important one- SHE BURNED MY FACE with her wax or something and now I have a scar on my eyelid just below my eyebrow! WTF?! I cannot encourage you enough to stay far far away from this place! read more

I've been going to Spa Josephine on a monthly basis for 2+ years and seeing Alisa for 3+ years for waxing (bikini, brazillian, brows, upper lip), facials and airbrush tanning. Alisa is the greatest! She knows what she's doing, knows the products and the science behind why one works better for one skin type or the other. She was even able to help me get rid of my sun-spots / pregnancy mask, which my dermatologist had had troubles with. Most importantly makes you feel very comfortable and relaxed (even during not-so-fun bikini waxings!) The salon is very clean and well kept and quiet as I make appointments after work. Parking is metered street only and can be tough after work .... but I hear they're moving down the street to a bigger salon with parking! Very flexible with appointment times and very reasonable pricing!! I'd never go to anyone else and highly reccomend Alisa and Spa Josephine! read more

Awful, awful, awful customer service experience!!! My wife and I went to get a nice couples massage. At our appointment time my wife's massage therapist was ready to go but mine had not yet shown up. She was apparently "running a little late". Ok, she's now gonna be late, fine we'll deal with it. My wife goes off with her therapist. That was our mistake: never again will I fall for that one: if you're having a couples massage or massage at the same time, wait until both therapists are there and ready or nothing doing--because in the spa's business eyes, the have at least one of us in the bag. At the point where my therapist was not there and going on 25 minutes late, the not-at-all-concerned person overseeing all of this, Cecilia, says, "She is still stuck in traffic so..." I immediately, visibly angry then said, "well, forget it, then. It's obviously too late for an hour massage" and all she says in return is, "yeah"...sort of a sucks for you attitude. Never offered any other plan and this is the part that is the worst: my wife was lied to about the whole incident by Josephine herself! Was she passing on misinformation or was she trying to cover-up without verifying what was happening. She tells my 7-months pregnant wife: "sorry about what happened to your husband". My wife, shocked, asks what happened. "His therapist hasn't shown up and we offered him a complimentary 30-minute massage and he turned it down." !!! Total lie, never happened. I would have completely accepted that. Cecilia not only never offered me anything of the sort, she did the exact opposite the whole time I sat there fuming as I waited for my wife--she just completely ignored me. And to be clear, she never offered any words of apology to me, never offered anything--a drink? Some more water? A discount on my wife's massage, NOTHING. So that's the part that gets me the most. Cecilia was disgusting. She says she just helps on weekends but this was no help. I don't know if it was racism, I am a dark haired, tanned, younger looking Mexican-American. I resist resorting to thinking that racism was involved but I don't think this would have happened to a starchy, middle-aged Caucasian man. And oh, yeah, went to Athena Spa and got treated with great respect and had a wonderful massage. My wife says her massage was good but said the therapist never touched her feet or arms and hands. I have been using Josephine's Skin Care line for about 1 1/2 years and have seen fabulous results!! Prior, my skin's appearance was showing signs of aging. I was noticing dark spots, definitive creases, sagging skin, and overall poor skin coloration (blah & spotted coloration). Since using Josephine's Skin Care Products, dark areas and fine lines have disappeared, prominent areas of facial creases have lessened dramatically. My facial skin and neck has become firmer, while also becoming hydrated and "alive". My skin once again has a natural, healthy glow. I have always attempted to use a healthy, well known line of skin care products, along with practicing a daily skin care regimen, however, signs of aging still crept up on me. But NOW - I can say, I have found a line of skin products that seriously improved my skin, and continues to improve my skin, even though my skin is 60+years !! I've been getting facials regularly for over a decade. I found Josephine about a year and a half ago and she changed my life. I feel so much more confident about my skin. If there is ever an emergency or event I can go and get her N-Oxyfusion facial and see results the same day. It doesn't take a night or two days - you literally walk out of the appointment glowing. Josephine is a true artist and I trust her implicitly. She applied permanent make-up on my brows, lips and upper eyelids and her work has honestly changed my life. Spa Josephine consistently provides an amazing experience for me. I am from California, but am currently a student in New York. Every time I come home for break I have to stop in! Most recently I had eyebrow tinting done by Josephine which I highly highly recommend to everyone coming in for a treatment. She is so meticulous with the application and has an excellent eye for following the shape of your brow or altering them according to your face shape. I absolutely loved them- so much that I had them done twice while being here! I have also had a facial here, which is unparalleled to others I have had in New York or elsewhere. To be clear, this rating is more so for the overall experience, rather than the quality of the actual massage that I received, which I would rate as at least 4 out of 5. My husband and I went down to Laguna Beach from LA for our babymoon. We stayed in town for the holiday weekend and were looking forward to our massage appointments at Spa Josephine, which was down the street from our hotel. I was particularly excited because of all the wonderful reviews that I had read here on Yelp. When we arrived, we were greeted nicely, and about five minutes before our appointments, which I had scheduled at the same time, the receptionist said that they could start with me and that my husband's therapist was running late. I assumed that maybe she was running late with a massage that she was in the middle of. So, I went on in for my massage while my husband waited in the waiting area to be called in. My prenatal massage was great. My only complaint is that she didn't go anywhere near my feet. She did a fabulous job on my shoulders and lower back, but I just thought it was a bit odd that she never got to my feet. I'm 31 weeks pregnant and was very much looking forward to my swollen feet and ankles being worked on, and assumed that someone skilled at prenatal massages would know to target feet as well. But, again, great massage overall. As I was leaving to return to the waiting room to meet my husband, I was greeted by a lady, whom I assume was Josephine. She inquired about my massage and apologized that the massage didn't work out for my husband. I was confused and all kinds of thoughts ran through my head-- "did he really not like the therapist and stop it mid-massage?" (I thought that was unlikely) OR "did the room in which the massage was supposed to take place in all of sudden flood?"(also unlikely). I mean, really, what wouldn't work out? I asked what she meant and she said that the therapist had been caught in traffic and never made it. She said that they offered my husband a complimentary 30 minute massage during the week but that my husband had told her that we weren't from the area and we would be back home by then. I confirmed that this was the case, and she apologized. I was still a bit confused as to how this was handled so I went out to the waiting area. My poor husband, who had been looking forward to a massage (after an especially stressful month), had been waiting for me in the waiting room that whole hour. I could tell he was upset/annoyed, but was trying his best to keep his composure. The recpetionist also told me that they could offer a complimentary 30 minute massage during the week, but I reiterated to her that we weren't from the area. She just apologized and that was it. It wasn't until after we left that my husband told me that they never offered him anything directly. So, apparently, all they did was apologize to me. Honestly, I'm not sure how else this could have been handled other than to have been more honest about the circumstances of why the massage therapist was running late so that we could have decided for ourselves whether to reschedule for later in the day or cancel altogether and try to book appointments elsewhere. To just have an "oh well, sorry" attitude isn't really the best way to ensure that we would ever want to come back here, despite the nice massage that I was able to enjoy. That wasn't the point of scheduling appointments for both us during our special babymoon trip. We ended up booking an appointment for him on Sunday at another local spa (Athena) and he loved it. read more

I live in Boulder, CO and have only used Josephine's skin line. I cannot believe how good her products are! I used to use Yonka and have switched after using these serums and lotions. It can get very dry here and most women/men look older than they are. I receive compliments daily on how fresh and moisturized my skin looks. All thanks to her serum for dry skin. It leaves my face moisturized, but w/o feeling oily or greasy. That's what ever other product has made me feel like. I wish I lived in Laguna so I could get regular appointments with her. My husband and I spent a few days in Laguna Beach last week and we decided to pay Spa Josephine a visit to recharge after our wedding. I had a 90 minute massage with David, and I have to say it was one of the best massages I've ever had in my life (and I've had a lot!) David greeted me in the waiting room, and presented with a very calm, caring demeanor. As soon as we got into the massage room, he asked about my preferences (pressure, etc.) and made sure he knew exactly what I had in mind and expected from a massage. David's technique is very fluid and deeply relaxing. He asked me during the massage how I was doing and if I wanted any changes in pressure. Even though the massage was very relaxing (I even fell asleep at one point), David also threw in some deeper strokes to work out some kinks in my back, but the strokes were not painful or uncomfortable. It's a shame I live in LA. If i lived in Laguna, I'd get monthly massages from David. At least I know when I go back to Laguna, I can count on him to help me reach a very relaxed state of mind and being. Thank you David and Spa Josephine for exceeding my expectations. The new location is absolutely beautiful, and although I now live in L.A., I still make it a point to make the trip down to get my services here. It's that good! To say that the owner, Josephine, is a professional is an understatement. She is incredibly knowledgeable about all things related to beauty and skin care, and she gives the most phenomenal facials - particularly the microdermabrasion. All of the women in my family go to Josephine for their services and we could not be happier with our results. She is one of the sweetest people I know and it's always a treat to see her. In addition to the services all being incredible, the thing that I really love about Spa Josephine is her line of all natural skin care products - JoJo Brooks. My skin has never felt so good in my life, since I started using these products. I've used everything in the past - LaMer, Esente, Dermalogica, Bliss...everything, and I've never seen results like this. The Microdermabrasion Scrub is unbelievable and I use it daily now. It contains dead sea minerals and leaves my skin looking smooth and polished. I follow the scrub with her Menwe de Millie botanical repairing serum, that helps with fine lines and wrinkles. Then the cherry on top is the Carrot Cream. It's a rich, beautiful cream that my skin soaks up like a sponge. You just need a tiny bit and your skin glows, without feeling heavy.
