Horrible Spa Experience - First off, seem like almost every time there was a neighbor with a Chainsaw going to town next door, not very "spa like and relaxing" lol. We went back because she seemed nice and we like to support local business so we overlooked the flaws of a small house spa operation. Well my wife booked a massage this time for two, she said ok I'll see if the other massage therapist can do it. We hear nothing for weeks and all the sudden she calls and text my wife today stressing her out "The massage therapist is here and I'm going to have to pay him and charge you if you can't make it" What?! Lady first off you didn't give my wife a time or confirm????????? Does that make sense to anyone to just call a message therapist over with NO TIME SCHEDULED......So we were just supposed to show up and guess when the guy is going to be there and that he's able to do it? So she responds with sorry it's been a bad winter and I have three jobs. I said yes I understand it's been a tough winter for all of us around here, that' doesn't make it right to want to charge us for something you didn't confirm and even give us a time for. I tell her we were busy and can't drop everything and make it to something we didn't think was happening and want a refund. Of course she says no and it says in her waiver that she doesn't do refunds. So your going to not give a refund for something that was YOUR FAULT that you didn't confirm or even give a time for? Ok, so she basically got free money for two massages and did nothing, but screwed over local customers. Ya congrats, well done, smooth. So I would be careful if there is ever a mix-up that is even her fault ,don't expect to get your money back "because she has it in her waiver". We had an incredible 90 minute message followed by a startie package with sauna and hot tub. It was three hours total of pure bliss and relaxation. We arrived at this oasis and were very warmly greeted to a message studio in the back. The studio was warm, tranquil, and inviting. It was raining and the noise on the roof paired with the soothing music was the perfect ambiance. Melissa is an incredibly gifted message therapist. I highly recommend adding the sauna and hot tub after the treatment. We had the whole place to ourselves for another 90 minutes and enjoyed going back and forth between sauna and the hot tub under the redwoods. It was private and romantic. We enjoyed the beautiful redwood ringed hot tub, the luxurious outdoor shower and a wonderful infrared sauna. We had tea and cucumber water waiting for us, too. Masks are required, Signs are everywhere, an outdoor sink to wash hands, many places in her lovely, peaceful environment to social distance. Appointments are staggered, 2 per day allowing for one to easily relax, read or meditate. Melissa also wore a mask and gloves during the entire massage. Spa Santangelo is a magical retreat in the redwood forest! I did the spa circuit one beautiful evening and felt completely rejuvenated. The outdoor hot tub was my favorite. It's outside surrounded by trees. It was so quiet and serene. The infrared sauna was also incredible. Missi is fun, funny and totally awesome! I booked Missi for a very special evening for my boyfriend and I, Missi came over to my house and gave us an on-site couples massage. I even did the foot detox...which is actually kinda trippy! Ask Missi about it! I'm pretty healthy as far as eating mostly organic and taking a shot of organic wheat grass in my fruit smoothie every morning so this detox didn't really do much for me...but still an interesting treatment. If you are looking for a nice massage and don't want to leave your home...this is a good deal! I do however suggest setting up a timer or clock around so that you make sure you get your full hour in... Also, I have never had my shakras balanced before and Missi helped me with that. After looking at a variety of different options, my girlfriends and I chose Balance Studio for our friend's bachelorette party recently. And we sure are glad we did. Upon arriving at this serene home studio, we were greeted warmly with lemon water, a tiara for the bride-to-be and a "bride" champagne flute before being ushered into a gorgeous HUGE studio we had free roam of for the entire day. The owner, Melissa, allowed us to bring in outside food and drink, and she even walked us to a swimming hole lake for residents of the vacation homes there rather than braving what would have surely been a crazy beach given the beautiful weather. The price was incredibly reasonable. We all received manicures and pedicures along with an hourlong massage while having use of all the amenities including a sauna, hot tub and back cottage on site for what would have been the price of a massage at a corporate or large cookie-cutter spot. Being blown away continued throughout the day, especially when it came to receiving a massage from Melissa who (I later found out) specializes in energy work, otherwise known as reiki, which I had not even previously heard of. As I told her after the massage, it was such a surreal experience that really changed my mindset. I am a very science-driven person but having felt what was happening (without her even telling me what she was going to do) absolutely blew my mind. After finding out I had a bad knee, she said she would focus her "energies" on it but I didn't think that this was exactly what she was going to do. It truly is hard to explain in words, which is crazy for me to say given I am a writer. Skeptic or not, it is worth giving it a shot. We first checked this place out for a spa day for a friend's Bachelorette party and from the very first phone call we were impressed by the friendliness, willingness to help and work with us. Went with my husband for a couples massage. He had the services of Melissa while I had a another on call therapist. This place is so cute and tucked away, with a very serene vibe. Not a day spa, but a place you actually go to and let Melissa take care of you! Loved that we could have our service dog in the large cabin room with us..(she is well behaved and just snored on the floor while we were tended to)..My husband was quite happy with his entire service of 90 minutes and left feeling relaxed and a few of those nasty tight muscles worked out. I had a 60 minute massage then read my book by the fireplace while he was finishing up his time. Cozy with lots of tapestry and rugs strewn about, light filtering in from the bamboo shaded windows, relaxing music played the entire time! aahhhhhh..yes, somewhat Zen like,somewhat a throwback to a calmer time..santa cruzs style!!!!!.. Things to work on or improve? The glaring overhead track lighting that could be diffused a bit more( yes, they use a smoothing mask over your eyes when laying on your back but it was not put on early enough. Maybe l ight the candles even in daylight?? My therapist started out with cold hands which was a bit unnerving...the massage table was heated but her technique left lots of sheets/blankets flapping which caused it to be drafty...I would rate her about a 5-6 nothing memorable or distinctive.. Next time I'm going alone and getting Melissa! ( heh it was his birthday so he deserved the best!) You should try this place out, I don't think you'll be disappointed. We weren't I did not use a groupon, could have ...but I know that most places limit how many of those they can afford to accommodate in a week and I wanted specif appt date and time.. I called only 2 days in advance and got a Sat appt at the time that worked for us. read more
