The manager at Spa West, Jill Gunthern, was completely unprofessional and completely unsympathetic to a situation that my daughter experienced with Spa West. She was gifted a couples massage in which it was put in her name per a text message. The classless X-boyfriend asked for a refund and was given the entire package back. When my daughter tried to get her part of the massage, they said it was refunded to him. After calling the manager, who is supposed to be in the service industry felt no compassion nor did she offer her a complimentary massage for their error they made in returning the gift to him; they sent the confirmation to her account. OVERPRICED, UNDEWHELMING, AND UNPROFESSIONAL When I was given a $300 gift card from my boss I was ecstatic. I mean, Spa West has always seemed too luxurious for my budget. I've known countless people who have raved about their experience. After looking at packages online I decided on partial highlights $100, basic mani $33 ($10 upcharge for gel) and signature pedi $75 ($10 upcharge for gel). When I arrived I was so excited to be pampered and have a relaxing spa "experience". The place looked beautiful. I was greeted by Cookie and he checked me in. Very standoffish and I didn't feel welcomed. He asked me to sit in the reception area. I was not offered any beverages. Cookie then returned to reception area and started a conversation with 2 employees considering another guest's bad experience. I SHOULD HAVE RUN. RED FLAGS. But I stayed. Cookie finished complaining about the situation and then came rolling back to me to take me for highlights. His shirt was visibly dirty as was his dimly lit work station. We picked colors. He gave me a used cape. And I did not need my hair washed as I came in clean and dry. He asked me to hold his foils and hand them to him. How is this relaxing??? Color came out ok. Not disappointed with that service. He then took me back for pedi. Overall a basic pedi. I do a better job at home with my own tools but I was excited about getting my first gel polish pedi. Rinsed hair, wrapped it in towel and then took me back for mani. All the time my hair was dripping down by back. Mani was rushed and application was poor. 3 days later, large chunks of polish were missing from both hands on multiple fingers. In total I spent $255. I've reached out on their site to ask to speak with someone concerning this 2x. No replies. I've read other reviews and the Spa is not receptive to fixing dissatisfied customers. This spa is a total scam - poorly managed, unhygienic, and overpriced. My wife and I routinely get SPA services in the US and around the world, and this was the worst spa experience we've ever had. - They charge $25 for sauna, but turned it on when I got there, and it wasn't throughout my appointment - I asked my masseuse to apply medium to firm pressure - she said she couldn't. Makes sense, because the poor lady was likely in mid to late 60s (Won't reveal name to be respectful to her) - no hot water in the shower, locker room had black hair all over the place. When looking for massages, I always check reviews. I am putting this out here to help others avoid the same situation by providing honest feedback! Going into a spa weekend, you expect relaxation... We got unprofessionalism, poor quality (seen in pictures), unsolicited political conversations... and everyone who had the same technician left with BED BUG BITES. This is not OK! We had the same masseuse and were in the same room for our "Deep Tissue" ( def not deep tissue, more of a Swedish) massages. These bites started showing up quickly after our massage and are of significant concern. We tried to call immediately after. As soon as they opened, the spa was contacted, and we attempted to escalate to the owner, who has yet to return an email or phone call as promised. We all came in healthy and left extremely disappointed, stressed, disgusted, and had bites all over us. Upon arrival, I was checked in, given a tiny glass (espresso cup) of cinnamon vanilla tea and a warm Scented wash cloth. I did the intensive facial with Priscilla. It was a good facial, but I was pretty disappointed to learn that their light was broken so she couldn't see my skin under it. Most places that I've gone for massages are places where you go in and out solely for the treatment you've purchased. It's a more clinical experience. Here however you get the true day spa experience just like if you were on vacation. The interior of this space resembles an old monastery complete with a long arched hall and big wall lanterns. Upon arrival you get a welcome tea and hot towel. We were addressed by name by everyone; in fact the receptionist guessed our names when we arrived. We were led back to the locker room to change into robes and flip flops. We were then led to a private room that basically had a hot tub in it. There were candles around the tub and himalayan salt with chocolate flecks had been added to the bath water. We got an hour in here to relax. This was perfect before a massage as it warmed you up nicely. Water was provided and wine was offered. From the private hot tub we were taken to a very large couple's massage room. The room had a couch in it and two comfortable heated tables. The massage therapist I had was very good. I just booked a relaxation massage so the pressure was light, but therapist did focus on a few knots in my shoulder. The experience was definitely relaxing. There were a few nice touches such as an eye mask for when I was lying on my back to block out any light. And the massage included the laying of several hot towels on me - my back at one point and both feet were wrapped towards the end. Afterwards we were allowed to relax for as long as we wanted in a comfortable room with dim lighting, water, snacks and couches. I can only think of three cons. First, is the size of the locker room. There were just me and two others in the locker room when I was in there and it was very cramped. It was not possible for all three people to change while standing in front of the lockers and the rest of the locker room lacked hooks or benches. Another con would be the lack of a call button or someone checking on us while in the bath. An hour was a bit long to not have the water pitcher refilled and a second round of wine offered. One final con would be the towel placed under the heated blanket during the massage. it was the roughest sheet / towel I've ever had laid on me during a massage. read more

We had a bad experience here about five days ago. Three of us had a gel manicure at the same time and one of us had to wait an entire hour to be seated to even begin. They apologized but didn't seem to understand that this was a problem and partially ruined the experience for us. We booked it at the same time so we could all be there together. The second issue is its been less than a week and part of my gel manicure just fell off. I don't even know how because I did nothing unusual but one of my nails the entire polish must have just fell or slid off. Overall this experience was not good. Update-- one week from manicure. I recently received a gift card for my birthday and scheduled my first facial here. It was done by Helen who was professional and funny and also from West Virginia and just my kind of lady. I got a lot of tips and tricks on how to care for my finicky skin! Nothing like being told after I voiced my skincare routine of leaving my makeup on constantly, "you have nice skin, you should take care of it!" to get my now-in-my-30s-unmotivated-ass taking that seriously. The facial felt nice and my skin was glowing for days. When I had a hair appointment a few days later, my stylist even noticed my brighter skin. I have sensitive skin and am prone to breaking out in hives randomly. So I was a bit concerned about anything new on my skin. I had zero issues during or after the facial. I will return to see Helen. And I will take care of my skin until I do because she will totally be on my ass if I don't. read more

I booked a set of Venus Legacy treatments for my face and neck after speaking with the manager, Nicole, and I was told some people fall asleep during as it's like a warm face massage. Well, my technician Ashlee started and it was incredibly painful from the first swipe. All I could hear were zapping sounds like my face was getting constant electrical shocks. I relayed my discomfort and described the pain and she totally disregarded me and kept going. Since it was my first treatment I thought maybe this was what was supposed to happen. I was told by Nicole the appointments would be 45 minutes. After about 15-20min Ashlee said she was done(which I was very thankful for!) . I was told there should be no pain and the redness would disappear after an hour or so. My face was stinging and sore to the touch like a very bad sunburn. Upon arriving home and looking in my magnifying mirror I realized my entire face was burned. Singed all over but a few deeper burns on cheeks, chin and forehead. My neck was fine - just red. I called and Ashlee had me come back in so she could see it. I went and she looked and said she didn't know why that happened and it would eventually heal. So I emailed Nicole to cancel my next appointment for the following week as I knew my face would not be healed by then which she did. I then decided I did not want to go through any further treatments and went in to the spa to talk to Nicole. She was "in a meeting and would be in meetings all day". They said she would call me ASAP. This was November 10th. I have still had no call as of today - the 22nd. So after not getting a call for 7 days, I wrote Nicole another email asking she get in touch with me as I wanted to cancel my future appointments and get a refund for the remaining appointments. Absolutely no response. AND she never cancelled my future appointments as I received a confirmation call the day before my next appointment would have been. So I am pursuing other avenues to try to resolve. Unfortunate I have to deal with this around the holidays, but I will def make time to attend their cocktail party on Dec. 1st. Maybe I can speak directly with the manager at that time. I have included pictures immediately after and 1 week after. Now, at 2 weeks after, the deeper burn marks are lighter but still visible. As someone that has been in customer service for over 25 years I would not chose to come here again. There is nothing relaxing about the experience and when I had issues with my service i was back within 12 hours and they told me it would be fixed. They made several appointments for me (3) and never called to tell me that one by one they would be canceled. each time I drove from the other side of the city as well as finding a baby sitter 3 different times to reschedule my canceled appointments. If they didn't want to fix the issue or if my appointments were canceled, they should have called me not made me come back 3 different times. It was a waste of my time, money, gas, babysitter pay, and overall life. Thank you Spa west for being one of the most careless companies I have ever spent money in. I would not recommend. This is my first time ever writing a negative review because I feel THAT obligated to warn others of my terrible experience here. I came in about a week ago for a gel manicure. My appointment was late afternoon on Thursday and Friday morning around 11am I looked down at my hand and a full fingernail was bare. The entire gel nail came off in one sheet less than 24 hours after the service. I called in to report this and was told I could either come in to have the ONE nail fixed (not the whole manicure redone) or have 50% off my next gel manicure. I explained that with my work schedule I wouldn't have time to come back in for the nails to be redone and that I also will not be coming back in the future so the 50% offer is not helpful to me. I asked if I could have a PARTIAL refund and she told me they cannot offer any type of refund because 'their system won't allow refunds'. Sounds like BS to me. Nonetheless, I did not go back in that day to have my one nail fixed and it's a good thing I didn't waste my time because later that same day another full nail came off. I have never had gels come off so easily before in my life, let alone less that a day later. I have had many gel manicures from many different salons and never any this bad. I even have a gel lamp at home and when I do my own they last at least 2 weeks. Now I am a week out from my service and have 3 nails left between both hands, with the right hand only having one nail left (see attached photo). Biggest waste of $40 dollars. And shame on them for not trying correct the mistake in an appropriate manner. As a side note, the manicure experience itself also wasn't great. I was at a small table that was almost blocking the salon door so whenever someone came into the salon I felt like I was basically being pushed. Also, the manicurist actually at one point BLEW ON my nails to dry them. That is unsanitary to say the least and it made me extremely uncomfortable. DO NOT GIVE THIS SPA YOUR BUSINESS! I can't believe I didn't read these reviews before I threw $200+ down the drain, but hopefully I can save some of you the money. This place is a joke. Overall, just a terrible vibe... From the lack of towels in the locker room, not to mention other amenities like lotion, kleenex, styling products and a working hair dryer. The massages my boyfriend and I received were mediocre at best. We spent all of three minutes in the relaxation room, after sitting on the ceramic tile floor in the sauna, waiting for them to come get us. Afterward, I sat on a foot stool in the changing room, as I waited for the one and only shower to free up. Every possible detail that makes going to a spa so wonderful was completely overlooked. Best yet, upon checking out, I was waiting for the woman behind the desk to ask me how my time there was, and she didn't. When I expressed how displeased I was, she told me she was a manager. Ummm... Any place that employs management that doesn't immediately ask how things went is clueless and doesn't deserve your hard earned money. In complete contrast to how I was hoping we'd feel, I was pissed off, stressed out and dehydrated, because not once did they offer water (after sauna and massages, really?) I had absolutely no problems with this spa. Perhaps they've upped their ante recently? Customer service was outstanding. Maybe 9:30 on a Sunday morning is THE time to get a massage. Some other reviews complained about the pedicures being too overpriced and not that good. Well, I don't ever rely on a spa for my pedicure for that exact reason. The spas don't do as good a job as the salons that specialize in manis and pedis, and they charge too much. So I just get a massage or a facial. I had an hour-long, MUCH needed "Relaxation" massage. It was excellent. My technician was extremely skilled and also checked in with me regarding the amount of pressure, and adjusted it accordingly when I asked her to. She also didn't make fun of me for forgetting to shave my legs. Oops. The bed was heated, the lights were nicely dimmed, there was peaceful music playing, they offered water which I enjoyed while sitting on a couch by a fireplace enjoying my US weekly...what else could I ask for? Just two things I'd like to have differently: 1) the room was a bit chilly, which was ok when my whole body was underneath the blanket, but not when limbs were exposed. 2) I would have liked the option of getting a nice robe and/or a shower, as I've had before at other spas. Maybe this is reserved for those who get more than one service. Also, if you book your next appointment before you leave, you get 10% off, and even if you have to reschedule it later, they still honor the discount. I have been getting my nails done for 15 years & this was by far the worst manicure I have ever had. The technician was pleasant but the quality of her work was absolutely awful. This was the only manicure I ever received where my nails weren't first soaked in a bowl of warm water. She merely rubbed some lotion on my cuticles and then started to trim them. Next, when taking off my old gel manicure, I had to implore her to continue to soak off the old polish because it was still on my nails. She repeatedly disagreed and tried to start my French manicure polish over the remaining film of metallic grey polish from my old manicure. When I finally gave up on her getting all the polish off, she sloppily and very slowly applied the white polish on the tips of my nails. After three nails (and 10 min) , I finally asked her to stop and just put some plain light pink polish on. The white tips were goopy and completely crooked, as if a young child had painted my nails. To make matters worse, my long, natural nails that had been perfectly shaped by my regular manicurist were completely ruined by the shaping and buffing of the nail technician who I will not name because I think she was a nice girl, just completely inexperienced. As another dissatisfied yelper mentioned, the spa manager failed to ask me how my experience was, and I have a feeling this is protocol. I will never come back. read more

Helen has been doing facials since 1977, she worked for a plastic surgeon, and I could tell she loves what she does. With this kind of expertise I know I got an optimal care from her. They did not change the sheets when I went for my hot stone massage and back scrub. I had 3 services and spent $700. The changing area is small and subpar. Everyone has to change in the same area. The girl who did my facial came into the room and did not wash her hands. They had a creepy old man do my hot stone, so I was afraid to get comfortable and he talked my ear off during the massage. When the skinny girl hostess at the front asked me about my experience, I told her. I told her I do not care to speak to the manager today, but I will send a comment. This was my first time in one and I didn't think I would like it, but it was very relaxing. I wasn't in there that long before it was time for my massage. I received this service from Karen. She was great at making sure I was comfortable. The massage felt great. She was very nice and professional. Then I received a facial from Helen. I feel bad saying this because she was really sweet, but the facial was blah. She seemed very outdated and not knowledgeable about skin issues. She didn't know any of the brands I am using. She also said my hyper pigmentation was due to the sun. I told her I've been breaking out on my forehead for over a year and they have caused dark spots. She stated I didn't have any acne and my skin was perfect. Although, I loved what she was saying I knew it was not true. I have very visible breakouts and hyper pigmentation. She used three different mask on my face. She offered me no recommendations for skincare at home, but was trying to get me to buy a package deal for facials. She needs more training! Spa West cancelled my appointments 4 different times making up excuses every time when finally the truth came out the coolsculpting machine was out of service. They called me back over a week later to reschedule and said for all the inconvenience they would offer me the Venus legacy treatment at no charge. When I originally booked the coolsculpting appointment with Nicole she said they would throw the Venus legacy procedure in for booking the coolsculpting treatment. Today is the 2nd time I have made a 50 minute round trip to Spa West for an European Spa Experience, apparently that means showing up for your appointment and being told the masseuse you requested is out sick for the day. After the first time she notated my account that I should be called to reschedule my appointment incase my masseuse was out for the day. Today I walked in and was told they didn't not have my phone number on file, which I'm pretty sure they looked me up in their system before with my phone number. They clearly don't care about anybody's time or realize that time is money.
