I was initially hesitant after reading reviews and experiencing a delay on their end in scheduling me. However, they seem to have changed their tune for Groupon sales and I was booked for last week. Upon entering, I was greeted by the man at the front desk (possibly the owner) and taken to a nice room in the back (which looked like someone's living room) to fill out forms. As soon as I was finished, my masseuse (Nikki) was ready to begin. I have had massages my whole life, at student clinics, Hand & Stone chains, and by individual longtime professionals. Nikki did not spend a lot of time on consultation, but she did ask about the lower back pain I had indicated on the forms and was very friendly in general. Most importantly, she was among the better masseuses I have ever had. Her pressure was firm, which I love, and her technique was excellent! She also put a hot towel over my eyes when I was on my back, which added to my relaxation. Next I was given a robe and cover-up and sent across the hall for the facial. I believe her name was Debbie and she was super nice. I have never had a facial before, and when I told her, she was happy to explain the materials she was using on me. At one point she worked on my blackheads which was painful but definitely effective. She must have used five or six different treatments on me, including a sulfur treatment for acne, and she knew her stuff for sure. The hand paraffin treatment was also interesting and left my hands feelings very soft. Afterwards, I was asked to pay $7 for sales tax which seemed reasonable, I'm not really sure if this is the industry standard though. The front desk man also offered me the same deal again, good for one year, but of course charged through the spa and not through Groupon! Unfortunately I was not able to pay in advance so I declined, but I thought this was a smart business move just the same. Although I am from the area, I am currently living out of state so I cannot say if I will be back soon or not. However, I definitely recommend this place since their massages are cheaper than most, and Nikki was excellent. Also, if you have a groupon, don't be afraid to call it in! Very small place due to the location in a shopping mall but it was nice and relaxing! Loved the Indian authentic style to the place and the staff was friendly. I had to post a review after reading all the bad ones and I just got home from my massage at Spa Zara. I don't understand why there's bad reviews... I absolutely loved the place- the atmosphere was nice, the staff friendly, and my massage therapist, Nikki, was amazing. They honored the Groupon and all I had to cover was tax (in Groupon agreement) and the tax was $3. I loved it so much I scheduled my next one which they gave me the Groupon price again! I arrived a tad early so I could fill out the initial form and was seen on time. I had purchased the Swedish Massage thru Groupon and Nikki did an amazing job, applying a tad more pressure based on my needs. She was quiet too. Perfect relaxation to me. The rooms were clean, smelled great, and the lighting was serene. I'm looking forward to going back and have recommended this place to my friends. My husband gave me a Groupon for spa Zara. I loved my experience there. The staff was very friendly,professional, and accommodating. The facial was amazing. I'm not sure how many treatments she used and I don't care. My face feels and looks so clean. I have had facials before but never had black heads removed or skin tone evened out. The paraffin hand treatment was great. Being a mom of three and always cleaning up after them it was nice to have soft beautiful hands again. A Swedish massage followed and was exactly what I needed. I haven't always had the best experiences with massages so I wasn't too excited about it. But! Ashley rocked it! I left there feeling relaxed and beautiful. Nothing could kill my vibe after my visit. I just redeemed a living social voucher here for an hour massage. The place is small and cozy. Nothing fancy. The guy at the front desk was very accommodating .... I had 2 coupons expiring today and he booked me with 1 day notice for one of them and offered to book a future appointment for the second - I appreciated that I didn't loose out on the second one being I waited until the last minute to try to snag an appointment. I had Brian as my therapist This one only my second massage ever but I was very thorough... Powerful and relaxing. I felt the tension coming out of my body. As I was leaving and booking my second appt the mgr offered me 3 massages at the discount living social price.. I think they took these complaints seriously because I had a pleasant experience interaction wise- I did not get a massage as I was there to leave business cards and get a gift card for my mom. The guy people are complaining about answering the phones seemed very personable and I heard him on the phone with another customer- he was nice. I heard him telling someone he could not schedule her for the day she wanted so I took a glance at the open appointment book- they really were very booked. I see a lot of people have a problem with their Groupon expiring and not getting an appointment etc. My advice would be to call and see if they have availability before buying the coupon. I am not defending them at all- its just how I would try and avoid a common issue. Personally, as a business owner I do not offer Groupon because it rips off the business by keeping 50%! I had a good experience with Spa Zara and their staff. I had no issues using the Groupon I purchased. The only issue I had was with the specific aesthetician that did my facial. I recommend Spa Zara but if you go for a facial DO NOT book it with Iffey (I don't know the exact spelling of her name but I think is pronounced iffy). She was not good at all. I could have given a better facial only because I've had so many in the past. It really seemed like she had no idea what she was doing or just didn't care. However, my mom had an excellent experience with the other aesthetician named Zubi. So if you do go for a facial DO book it with Zubi! She has years of experience, is professional and friendly :) Also, I had the best massage of my life with Brian!! He is amazing! It was not just a massage - it was an experience. Surreal how good he is and how relaxing it was! I will definitely be going back for a massage with Brian! I really did have a good experience here and hope that others give it a chance, especially with the great Groupon deal! (Just make sure you don't book a facial with Iffy!) I used to love this place. I only come here for their male masseuse, pascal. He's worth the mediocre facial you get beforehand. I used a birthday gift today for a massage and facial. The facial was first. It started more than 30 minutes after my appointment. All I heard the receptionist say is "it's been so hectic today". My appointment was even moved yesterday from 2PM to 11AM by spa Zara. I agreed without an issue. The facial was started by one woman who seemed annoyed she had to give me a facial because she had to leave in a half hour (facial was a full hour). She did a great job. It was extremely relaxing for the first half hour of a 2 hour treatment. Then it was continued by who I think is the owner. She was aggressive and fast and definitely rushing. I come to the spa to relax. And this was not relaxing. Then I had my massage by Pascal....no. It was a female masseuse, even though I had specifically requested a male upon appointment. I'm assuming because the spa asked to change my appointment time, they also thought my male request was also void. This female masseuse started me on my back massaging my chest and shoulders. Her breath smelt extremely gross of cigarettes. If the second half of the facial didn't make me tense enough, the smell of bad breath and cigarettes will do it. The massage was mediocre and not enough pressure but I was so over everything and just wanted to get out that I didn't say anything. I should have, so I'm writing this review. In summary, Spa Zara has seemed to have bitten off more than they can chew with all their Groupon deals. If you like relaxing in a McDonalds for spa-like experience, then its great. But if you truly want a relaxing spa experience, this is not the place for you. read more

This was a very disappointing experience all around. I bought a Groupon and tried to use it in a two month window and they were unable to accommodate me with an available appointment until a month AFTER the Groupon expired. Seriously!? I do not work, so I was very open with my scheduling. I was not limited to just a Saturday or an evening. This was Very fishy and I should have just quit. Even worse, they have a man answering their phone and scheduling the appointments. He is brusque and boorish and should not be the first interaction with clients. He is the absolute antithesis of the genteel, gracious first impression most such businesses provide. I finally decided to suck it up and pay the $80 for a facial mentioned in the promotion and just have them subtract the $39 Groupon price. I arrived for my appointment 10 minutes early for my 10am appointment, and was asked for the Groupon. Now this is where I really have a HUGE problem with them. This is UNFORGIVABLE. I was told that the facial I am getting is $99 and that they will subtract the $39, so I owe them $60. This is bull. Of course I bring up their website on my phone and tell him that the facial is listed as $80. Then he says that I can have another facial for free if I cough up the extra $60, "tax-free" he adds like he is doing me a tremendous favor. All this is done BEFORE the appointment. Really? I have never been asked to pay for my facial or massage before the service in any other salon ever, including Gentle Healing and Wellness just 10 minutes away (go there instead!). I adamantly refuse to be up-sold. I am waiting and waiting and wondering what the heck is going on. They offered me water and brought it to me in a cheap plastic 9oz cup like you use at the dentist's office! Seriously? Lame. The decor is pretty laughable, too. It used to be a real estate office. It looks exactly as it was left, with desks, the lamps, curtains, everything exactly as it was left. Then they added all these ridiculously cheesy decorations to make it appear more posh and upscale. Finally the aesthetician rushes in clad in her winter coat, clutching coffee 10 minutes after 10. Really? Now I understand that anyone can have a bad day and have an issue to cause them to be late for work, but she told me that she lives 5 minutes away. We aren't talking about getting stuck on a subway or heavy traffic. I was already pissed, so this just made me even more angry. The service goes on and is fine. Since we started so late, we ended late. On one hand I do not want to complain I was shortchanged on the service, but on the other hand, if the appointment is at 10, I expect to begin with a reasonable time, not 30 minutes later. Bottom line, if you are willing to fork over $80 to $99 for a facial in the area and aren't trying to get a deal on Groupon, then the actual service will be fine, but take all my other comments into consideration. read more

I received a Groupon gift for a massage with facial and paraffin package deal (for amount $85.00) for Spa Zara in Monroe NJ for my birthday and called to schedule the spa visit. The attendant who took the call indicated that massage, facial and paraffin were to be scheduled on the same day and made the reservation. I received a call from the attendant the day before the visit to confirm. Then he called me back a few minutes later asking me to prepone my visit to an earlier time the same day. He called back several times and finally the time was confirmed. Once I arrived the manager was at the front desk and had me go for the massage. I ended up feeling pain in my back. I then was provided a robe and instructed to wait in the back lobby for my facial. A few minutes later the manager came in and told me I need to reschedule the facial and parafin treatment as this was not scheduled earlier. I advised him this was my first visit there and that I was not advised of this and that in fact the attendant indicated these are always scheduled as a package on the same day. I advised him my time is limited and I was unsure of the day to reschedule. He then said "you got the massage, just go ahead and reschedule the facial and paraffin". "There is a person here to do the facials but she is all booked up. We can't reschedule our other customers for you." I then asked him if this has anything to do with the fact that I was using a Groupon. He just shrugged his shoulders and kept trying to reschedule me. After I was rescheduled, he then told me I need to pay the tax of $6.00, but seeing as I was still upset, he agreed to waive this fee. I decided to cancel later on as I never was treated this bad at a spa in my life. The manager was very unprofessional and doesn't seem to respect customers who use Groupons. I had such a horrible experience here. I purchased a Groupon for the holiday spa package that included a facial, massage, hand treatment and eye treatment. The day I scheduled got the facial and massage, they were good but the guy giving me the massage smelled like smoke. The woman doing my facial didn't know about the eye treatment so I had to make another appointment and when I was there for it they didn't have anyone to do the treatment. I waited for 40 minutes before complaining and then the woman they had do it complained the whole time about not having time to do it... not very relaxing. And I just got an email about the Groupon and noticed they didn't do the hand treatment. How is it possible that they offer a package deal and then not do half of the deal? I found this place via living social. I was very happy with the environment the place wasn't big, but staff was very welcoming. I absolutely loved my facial. Lady was very nice and knew what she was doing. The negative was that the massage I also got there was not good at all. I didn't enjoy it one bit and couldn't wait until it was over. The man Jose that did the massage didnt seem to know what he was doing. He couldnt really explain to me what technique he was using when I asked. So glad I was recommended here by a friend of mine! I opted for a couple hours of spa treatment - a facial, massage and hand/foot scrub all during the same visit and was very pleased with the results. Luba was my aesthetician and I really liked the products she used on my skin during the facial. It's one of the only times I've left a spa and had my skin not overtly red/irritated/reacting to some form of product used. I expect it with some more aggressive forms of facial treatments but not your standard facials. The hand and foot treatment was done during my facial which added a nice layer of relaxation to it. I was surprised by the difference I felt after the treatment because I usually have rougher hands and feet, but I left with them feeling very soft and luxurious. I certainly don't feel nervous about getting a pedicure after that! Finally was the massage and it was a nice way to end he treatment. I frequently get deep tissue massages to actually treat body aches from my job, but I opted for an aromatherapy massage this time to keep up with the relaxation aspect of things. The pressure was right in the middle and yet she still worked the muscles in a way so that they relaxed even without near-painful pressure. The pricing was fantastic as well. They are able to create custom packages, which was what they did for me, that many places don't offer so it was great getting exactly what I wanted and nothing that I didn't. I was a regular customer until recently. I overlooked the poor service, they never record your appointments and almost always make you wait to sort it all out. This happened more than once. I put up with poor service since the facial was good the first few times. However its gotten worse, you never get service from the person you requested even though she is free and is busy chatting in the front while a "newbie" works on you. No apologies or even an excuse provided as to why she cannot attend to you especially since I made a specific request at the time of appointment and went when she was available. It was a slow weekday & they only had 1 other customer. If she didn't want to take me or wanted to attend to only some elite customers, they should have canceled my appointment and refunded my money. Spend your money elsewhere, there are several spas in the area for lot less. You shouldn't have to take this from anyone when you pay for the service! read more

I don't understand some of the previous negative reviews that focus mostly on scheduling and groupon issues. This is a small family run business and not associated with a hair salon. Folks IMHO should be generally more patient with small businesses like this and understand that these coupons can overshoot the anticipated demand causing problems the first time round. I used a coupon for a two person spa visit with facial, massage, hand&foot scrubs, wine, cheese and fruit about two years ago. Scheduling was no problem. I left a message and they called me back to schedule promptly. The services were GREAT and the coupon price was very INEXPENSIVE. They extended the same offer at the same price with a one year time limit if I prepaid and I have done that several times since then to take my daughter, my husband, and my son for special occasions. I generally think facials are a waste of time but the facial at spa zara was far superior. I was so happy on my last visit because the new masseuse named Brian happened to be one of my favorites from a previous salon that was for expensive. Their previous masseuse was fine but Brian is the BEST. I am scheduling my next visit and highly recommend spa zara particularly for a pleasant spa package. This will be my first and last visit to this spa. The layout of the spa is far from comfortable and relaxing. Your walking in a robe between rooms right in the main common space/fromt entrance for all to see. The loud TV in what's supposed to be a relaxing waiting room wasn't what I needed or expected to see in a spa. People go to spas to relax and turn themselves off from stress and the world. Both my services ran over 20 minutes late and no apologies or warning. I mentioned almost 10 times I needed to leave by 5pm to pick up my son. I finished late. Also, masseuse hands were incredibly rough! I had short services and she first refused to discount the price and in the end took only $10 off after back and forth. The owner/manager had the audacity to say we dont need you back here again, we have plenty of clientele!! I had the extractions done during my facial, and the pressure was fine, not sure what previous reviews are talking about. Spa Zara just needs to close down already. I agree with previous review that Sammy, the "owner" should not interact with clients at all. My session was to start at 9am.. they told me come 15 mins early, so I did. I waited and waited till finally someone showed up to open the so-called "spa". My facial was fine, but got started so late. Then onto massage where it starts out the therapist telling me they were going to cut me short because the facial ran overtime (which was because the spa was closed when I was supposed to start my treatments!) This infuriated me! Here I am ready for a relaxing massage and I'm being treated like cattle. I complained to the therapist and she agreed to give me my full time. I got a great groupon and a great deal for a spa day at Spa Zara that included a facial and a massage. The waiting room wasn't the greatest. Some dark curtains, dim lights and some candles could've done wonders to fix that. Other than that, the services were great. My massage therapist was wonderful and even did extra for my sore hands and wrists. The facial was great and even included blackhead extraction. Finally after a week calling daily he stood on the line he said he didnt have anything available until after my groupon expires. Scheduled a couples massage after buying 2 groupons, only to arrive and find out that we would not be in the same room. Arrived there on time because I had a busy day, scheduled the 60 minute massage for 10. The masseuse did not arrive until 10:15, not starting my massage until 10:20. The massage itself with Pasqual was excellent. Massage ended at 11:05, making it a 45 minute massage instead of 60. When I asked about it, I was told i needed to pay extra tax for full groupon price, when I complained about the time of the massage, the owner said "go to talk to the masseuse and figure it out yourself." He just kept trying me to book another massage, and said he would add on a "free" 15 minutes extra if I booked again. While the massage was wonderful, the spa is a total rip off. read more

The day before my January appointment, the spa called to cancel due to predicted bad weather. Okay-- not their fault. The next available appointments were not until March. So we took appointments for today (March 23) at 3:00 p.m. At 10:45 this morning, someone from the spa calls to tell me that the massage therapist's car broke down, so they needed to cancel our appointments. I bought a great groupon for a 60 min deep clean facial. There was an honest miscommunication about the scheduling. I got there and they had moved my appt to a couple hours later that day without my knowledge or consent. I couldn't do that so I rescheduled for the next week. The woman there was sweet and insisted I be scheduled with her and that she would take good care of me. Okay. Annoying but whatever. They were apologetic and those things happen. The following week I get there about 5-10 minutes early and I sit in a waiting room in the back. I could overhear a woman that was in for a facial complaining (but also being overly dramatic and rude) about the steamer having spit hot water at her. At this time I should be getting called into a room but I patiently wait knowing that they need to deal with that situation. I finally got called into a room 15 minutes after my scheduled time. The aesthetician was very nice, but also not the original woman who insisted I be with her. Fine. Whatever. The facial starts and I'm saying that my face is breaking out and I think it has to do with the change in weather. After a lotion and some steam the aesthetician uses the extraction tool on my nose for a minute and then massages something else into my face. Then she put a mask on me. Meanwhile I am realizing she is done with the extraction part of this deep clean facial. Call me crazy but I always thought it was job of the aesthetician to assess the needs of your skin and go from there. My whole face was ignored besides my nose which wasn't even an area I was concerned about. I want my spa experiences to be conflict free so I treaded lightly on the topic of "Hey, what about the rest of my face?" but to no avail. Basically I went there and got a mask put on me for half of the visit. Then the lights come on. It's over. She steps out so I can get dressed and when I look at the time I see I was cut short by 20 minutes! I didn't get the service I wanted and the experience was rushed. Received a spa package as a gift. The hour massage was very good, but the stone foot massage was included in that hour, not an extra 10 mins. The facial was suppose to be $60 minutes, it was barely 30. The strangest facial I've ever had - and I have had many. Extraction tool is rough, didn't really concentrate on any problem spots. She seems to be obsessed with the nose. I would recommend the massage, but not the facial, and I guess you get what you pay for with Groupon - You are not really getting any deal. I am pretty disappointed with the facial massage I just had. I had an groupon voucher for an hour customized facial. The facial only lasted for 35 minutes. The reason that I was offered was that I came couple of minutes late and then filling in the form took the rest of the time. I had an unexcuseably bad experience in November relating to a living Social deal for a deep cleansing facial. I called for an appointment, and was told there were no weekend appointments available for November or December (my certificate expired in December), so I decided to book a weekday appointment and took a vacation day off from work on November 21st, the day before Thanksgiving. I received a phone confirmation of my 2pm appointment on November 20th. So imagine my surprise and disgust when I arrived for my appointment, and was told I didn't have an appointment...to quote the woman at the desk "there must be some mistake". , as if it was my mistake. I still had the recording on my answering machine confirming that they did call me to confirm my appointment. Bottom line - I was not given a facial that day. They did book me a weekend appt and added 15 minutes to the facial. They tried to sell me a package of 3 facials for $115 which I declined. I do not have trust in the people running this salon. My technician Lana was wonderful. She needs to find a reputable salon to work in. What I think happened - they booked a full price facial for the time slot - and the heck with me. read more

The first time was great, bought a groupon for couples with deep tissue, facials, foot scrub, and cheese and wine. Second time was offered the same deal (so I thought) for the same price...to find out the deep tissue was not included (day of massage). Third time, same price, was not offered a robe, we both finished waiting on our cheese and wine, only to be told it wasn't included...but paid 193.00 (just like the other two times). I left a 20.00 tip and was called back to leave more of a tip because they used three different people on two of us and have a sign stating a minimum of 10.00 tip is required. For my birthday, my son and his wife got me a voucher through Groupon. I was looking forward to a relaxing facial. I was truly disappointed. As I entered the facial room for 10 minutes the owner tried to sell me a holiday package. When I asked her to make her recommendations after the facial, she got upset and proceeded to tell me to leave. She said she did not feel she wanted to give me the facial. I should have left! New spa, service was average, but not very flexible with scheduling. I had scheduled a facial for my mom and unfortunately couple days before the appt, she got terribly ill and was admitted at the hospital. With all the craziness i forgot to reschedule till an hour before and they basically charged me for the appt. I could have provided more from the doctors to prove that she was admitted in the hospital. BUt the folks are not very open to life changes. Will not go there. read more

I came here for a 2 hour session of massage, hand paraffin, and facial, and was here for nearly 3 hours. I was never rushed. I was encouraged to relax, take my time, and enjoy my treatments on a busy Saturday afternoon. Rosa gave me the most relaxing custom facial. I need to force myself to stay awake! Fabulous. Then, my masseuse, I think his name was Brian, was a bit unconventional, but gave me a terrific therapeutic massage. He did a great job trying to make me feel comfortable. I find the 1st session with a masseuse a bit awkward. I admit, I was a bit nervous when he lifted my leg almost over my head to stretch me out, but once I got past it, I realized it was for my benefit. It was the first time I had a massage that I felt invigorated rather than sluggish after. I though I would be sore the next day, but it was the complete opposite. I felt refreshed and well rested! My husband bought me a groupon from here without reading the reviews so I made an appointment and thought it was wonderful. I had such a good experience that I took my mother there for mothers day. We both got a facial from Zumbi and massages from Cory. I wound up being a bit late due and they worked with us to accomidate us. I did book in advance but I find that with most spas I need to do that. I used Groupons and had no trouble in that area either. I was kind of suprised by the reviews. What wonderful spa, what a great experience, totally love them ! I found this place via groupon and initially didn't expect much, simply because I didn't pay the full price for their services.I must admit I was wrong. the massage was AMAZING, the facial (done by the owner) was EXCEPTIONAL. have no words to describe it. I've had massage/facials done at the Borgata, Ceasars and many other local spas, but they nowhere near as good as at Zara. The lady who did my facial was great, you could easily tell that she loves what she is doing.I would also like to acknowledge the young fellow that did my massage. He is very talented, extremely professional, and most importantly, he knows what he's doing. The place is pleasant, nicely decorated and very clean. The soft spoken gentleman at the front desk is very accommodating and welcoming. I had no problem getting an appointment, even on a short notice. I was hesitant to make an appointment due to negative reviews. However I was given a Groupon as a gift. I called and they took me in two days later massage facial and hand treatment. Massage was great the facial was the best I've had. The best part was they don't try to push over priced skin products which is a first. They offered the same price on a return visit. I will definitely go back. read more
