Let me remind you that not so long ago in the 2000s, Geoff John's Green Lantern was one of the top selling books published by DC! This shows the sheer tragedy of the Ryan Reynolds GL movie. Best themed bar I've been to! Perfect sci-fi theming with aliens from Mars Attacks!, Darth Vader, Alien's Facehuggers, and more famous creatures. You're greeted at the front door with a funny line like, "Hello Captain, are you ready to greet your crew?" Then smoke surrounds you as the room "air locks", then a host brings you into the bar. It's great to have this alongside Token and Bit Burger - these establishments all offer different variants of food that are quite tasty, offering a comforting experience. My personal favorites I've had are both bacon-based: bacon on a clothesline and bacon-wrapped figs (my personal favorite). A quirky, fun place to go for drinks and light bar fare, especially with a group. You don't have to be a fan of sci fi/space things, but it helps. It's in a weird, kind of out-of-the- way shopping center, next to a movie theater that's been turned into one of those odd evangelical worship centers (I wouldn't say "church"). That adds to the appeal I think. The staff are friendly and fun, which is what you'd expect in this kind of place. Some of the customers were cosplaying the night we were there, which again added to the fun atmosphere. Even the backlit menus are fun! We had 2 of their most popular cocktails: the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster (named for Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) and the Turing Test. The former comes with a buzz button, which is a seed that makes your mouth tingle. They tell you to take a drink, then chew the buzz button, then take another drink. I found the initial taste of the drink sort of one note. But after the buzz button, when I took another drink, I could taste the many layers of ingredients they use in this drink. It was definitely better. The Turing Test was supposed to have a walnut-ish taste. It was good, but the walnut ingredients were pretty low key. We had a huge lunch the day we went here, so we ordered some of their light bar fare as dinner. The Orbital Cheese was surprisingly good: crunchy parmesan pesto crostini bread that was wonderful on its own, but also really good with the melted feta cheese and tomato dipping sauce. The Rack of Rhynark included bacon, sausage, a few roasted potatoes and a (bland) slaw sort of thing made with radishes or cabbage or something along those lines. This dish was okay -- the bacon being the best thing about it. You don't really come here for the food though anyway, it's the weird drinks and the atmosphere. It's worth a visit! read more

What a fun experience! I came here on a Thursday night with a friend who was in town, and we were both in awe of the whole experience. We were immediately immersed in the space theme upon entering the doors and it felt like we were in a literal spaceship. The menus lit up when we opened it, which was a nice touch, and our server was so attentive and gave us advice on what to order. We only ordered drinks, no food, but the pizza looked good at a table nearby. The drinks came out smoking, adding to the space illusion, like a rocketship was landing. This place was so much fun! My wife took me here for a date when we went on vacation. I was so surprised by walking into this atmosphere. One of the best speakeasies I've ever been to. Holy unique, Batman. If you are looking for strong drinks, great service, and an incredibly creative and immersive experience, Space Bar's got you! I can't get over how creative these owners are. Between Bit Burger, Token Game Tavern, and Space Bar...they are like mad scientists of awesome. There is not yet permanent signage on the building for this bar. Just know that it is to the right of the AMC Theater off Seven Oaks. Note that they are currently only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays and that reservations are recommended. Speaking of reservations, we made one for a "Flight Cabin" AKA table, versus bar, but upon arrival were seated at the bar. This was actually a fabulous error, as we got front row seats to the creation of these wild drinks. The bartenders were fabulous, especially Brittany who led us masterfully (and patiently) through our voyage. While waiting on service, we took in the atmosphere. Drink creation was a show, as were the black lights, fog, and the zillion murals, art pieces, signage, and TV screens imitating space ship data, etc. So very cool and detailed. You could tell the servers and bartenders get asked for their recommendations ALL.THE.TIME. and they are all still very kind and patient. Even when everyone, including me, wanted to take pictures galore of this adventure. Everything on the menu is themed and named after space travel characters, movies, and shows. We ordered: -Rack of Rhynark (dangling candied bacon dripping onto a bed of green beans and a few potato chip thingies). The bacon was the star for sure. -Turing Test (like a super unique Old Fashioned, served from a smoking box!) -Medusa Merger (tasted like a Cosmo and served with a giant berry bubble that pops and turns into fog) -Glitch in the Matrix (absinthe shots with a whole show, burning and dropping sugar cubes inside. These are STRONG proof-wise, and taste like black licorice. Definitely down them as a shot to get the sugar cube. Not a sipping drink). Space, the final frontier... and the first space in Knoxville that's fully themed from the time you enter until the time you leave. Every inch of this place was thoughtfully designed. And every item on the menu carefully crafted. It's the first menu that features items that are prepared by a true craftsman and gastronomist. This place is fun, simple and an experience. Thursdays all ages are allowed to go and we took our 9 year old daughter. The walls, bathrooms, waitresses, everything is themed from the minute you walk in! The waitresses stay in character the entire time. The drinks, including non-alcoholic are fun and include things like dry ice and pop rocks! We ordered the shrimp cocktail, the presentation is awesome with the dry ice. The pretzel was huge and the added sausage and pickles were a treat! At the end, everyone gets a lemon sorbet, alien ice, palate cleanser that is a wonderful extra touch!! This is a very cool place and experience. We were not sure what to expect so we did not reserve a "boarding pass" time, however there was a cancellation and we were seated quickly. So, you need a "boarding pass" or reservation in advance to get a table. Once you enter this dark, black lit, spaceship themed bar the decor and employees are literally glowing. I believe they are basically reservations only, as it is a small bar. Highly recommend making reservations as it is a small bar. However, the reservation is limited to a time frame, depending upon how many people are in your party. The drinks were very cool and creative. The food menu was short, but also very creative. The entire bar had a space theme. I believe there are even drinks with CBD as well. Tonight we got the Medusa, bio- luminescent, ginger beer and CBD, and the pan galactic. There all super tasty and cool experience. The Medusa has a big smoke bubble, bio luminescent is in a neat mushroom cup on a forest platter and the pan galactic is a MUST try, it comes with a buzz-button that makes your mouth tingle and the drink change flavors immensely. We also ordered the charcuterie board which is super tasty and had tons of different snacks and textures. This time we had the Buffalo dip and bread, it was super flavorful and bread was super soft, we also got the berries crostini which came with whipped goat cheese and berries and it was such a new but tasty and complimentary mix. 100% recommend to come here on a date, with friends, family, anything. Space Bar is such a unique and fun fully immersive experience in West Knox. Their self descriotuon is a "geek-easy". When you arrive you let them know how many are in your party, then they have to "pressurize" the cabin before you get escorted behind a curtain to your table. The atmosphere is dark. Wear your black light friend clothing and accessories for an extra good time. There are booths and table of varying sizes and a bar top. They do use a fog machine in the room, so if someone in your party is sensitive to this you just need to be aware. We stuck to drinks this trip to space. Drink prices start around $12 and do increase according to what is in it. The drink prices are not unreasonable for craft cocktails. If you want a $5 margarita go to a chain down the street. Every single drink you order has its own party trick. I had a rum based drink first. It was dark blue with little edible confetti stars and a giant, perfectly clear and round ice cube. So fun! I will say it was a little complicated to get the drink at the bottom of the glass under the ice. See pictures for details. My second drink was their take on an Old Fashion and it easily became my favorite old fashion in town. Don't @ me. It was a mixologist perfection. I began with the Passenger cocktail which I was surprised it even caught my eye because I usually don't enjoy drinks with coconut rum because they tend to be overly sweet with that fake sugared up coconut taste; however, this was well balanced to where I could taste some coconut but it wasn't overpowering AND it wasn't too sweet! My husband got the Pan-galactic Gargle Blaster drink. We had gotten it the last visit and it was such a good drink that he wanted it again. My friend got the Bioluminescence drink and loved it; especially the glass it comes in. Her husband doesn't drink so he ordered a soda but they do have a mocktail menu you can ask for for anyone in your party who doesn't drink or is the DD. The space bar is tucked away in a strip mall area. There is not a sign, but it's the blacked out windows. 100% recommend getting a reservation ahead of time. The first time I tried going we were quoted a 30 minute to 2 hour wait. Ultimately I went elsewhere but received a call after two hours. With a reservation, I was able to partake in the experience. It's very on theme the whole time. The food was good but for the price...I wouldn't come here for the food (plasma berries shown in photos $6). We also tried the xeno dip (Buffalo and blue cheese dip), rack of rynark (candied bacon), and the galactic gastronomy (pretzel with dips). All were fine but I would eat dinner before hand. The drinks are what steal the show! Each beverage is served with some theatrical element. It's fun ordering a different one each time to see what you're going to get. Between flashing lights, smoke, bursting bubbles, glitter, and dry ice it's quite the experience. The reservations are timed, so once your time is nearing the end, the staff will let you know. Our server took great care of us and the staff go out of their way to emphasize the space themed experience.
