It's definitely a nice getaway in Knoxville for those that like to game in a lively environment and enjoy time with friends and family. And on top of that, it's also great that this and the other parts of the same chain (Bit Burger, Space Bar) are near each other in the same area as well. Makes for a lot of great food service for what you can order (that will be similar at the other spots). The staff has always been (10+ visits) nice and responsive to any requests. The drinks are fun but I like to personally stick to some snacking. I have found the buffalo wraps and mini hot dogs to be the ticket. The pinball machines have a lot of variety and art to admire in them. There are also other board and video game options for those that don't like pinball. I love the Space Bar next door, so it's clear these people know how to create an experience. Token Tavern is a blast from the past, including favorites from the 80's like pinball and Ninja Turtles. The food for me feels like an afterthought. The corn dogs were fine but likely frozen. The salsa with the chips felt canned. I didn't try the other food but did order a burger from next door Bit Burger with an extra service charge. I ordered the Mega Man, a burger with cheddar, caramelized onions and white BBQ sauce. I didn't taste much of the white sauce and thought the side potato salad was okay, but I did like that they make them smash burgers. This was a super fun place to grab lunch with our kids. They enjoyed the playing the arcade games and even got to play some Pac-Man directly on the table tops. The burgers were pretty good and although very salty, the tater tots, cheese curds and waffle fries were all good. As a bonus there was lots of quirky and creepy decor to promote the upcoming CreepyCon. That just added to the interesting atmosphere. I can definitely think of some things I'd change, so this isn't a true 5 star... but a 4.5 will still round up. Came here with someone, and we ordered pretzel bites, a fig and goat cheese flat bread, and the Hot Dog Sliders. My partner also ordered a Strawberry Cream Soda which was tasty. The Pretzel B ites were good, but didn't include enough queso for all of the pretzels. Even if you went light, there wasn't enough to go around. Not super thrilled about that. Otherwise the quality was good. The Slider Dogs were also satisfactory. They were exactly what I expected, and I'm not going to complain about them at all. However, they didn't blow me away. The Goat Cheese and Fig Flatbread though was excellent. It was much bigger than we expected, about the size of a small pizza, and was wonderfully flavorful. If/when I return I'm going to get another flatbread. Overall, just as a restaurant, this would be a solid, albeit unspectacular restaurant. Nothing bad, just not a must visit. The arcade ringing the perimeter of Token Game Tavern though is a lot of fun! It's now leaning very pinball heavy, but has a mix of consoles, retro arcades, pinball, and some more modern titles. Things work off of a token system of course, but the prices aren't what we grew up with as kids. Closer to modern pricing, so it doesn't matter. I did note some oddities... the jubeat machine tries to connect online every time which makes the games take way longer. One of the light gun games doesn't register hits on the left fifth of the screen. But overall, this is a very fun place that's a solid way to spend a few hours and get a good meal. read more

EXPLOSION of nostalgia coming at ya! Most of my childhood was in the 90's, so this place really feels like home. My husband and I arrived a few minutes before Wednesday night trivia (every Wed. at 7 pm) and were greeted immediately. The place was packed and lively. We sat at the bar, used a QR code to look at the drink menu on our phones, started a tab for the super creative and fun drinks, and soaked in the ambiance. Most of the drinks are quirky, colorful, and fun. Someone next to me had one that released "smoke" and my Revenge of the Nerds was coated in Nerds candy. I was initially impressed by the "action-like" video games on the TV's in front of us until I looked around and saw people were actually playing video games on them from nearby tables. SO cool. It looked like anyone can come in, grab a drink and a game controller and have at it. Huge amount of board games near tables inside the door, accompanied by the many pinball and arcade games littered across the room makes for a very fun outing for all. Trivia was fun. A tad slow-paced, but still fun and challenging. They hand out the answer booklets before they begin and then get rolling with several different rounds with differing themes. We had a great night out at Token. The location is convenient and there is plenty of parking. It was fairly busy because it was a weekend night but there were available tables and plenty of games open. We stood at a bar height table and a friendly server greeted us immediately and had our drink order to us quickly. They have a fun drink menu with non-alcoholic options, too. We ordered our drinks and a roll of coins to play the games. Oh the nostalgia! The old school arcade games and pinball machines are reminiscent of fun times growing up at the arcade (minus the adult beverages.) Unfortunately, not all the games were working but that's understandable because they are vintage machines. We didn't get any food because we came to play and have a drink. But we saw lots of people eating and everything looked amazing. There are also lots of board games to choose from as well as console games with tvs on the wall showing the action. Not what I expected! But man the place was packed early on a Saturday. You could see all ages of people playing pinball or video games but also board and card games at their table. I thought the $1/pinball game a little high. Almost every table was taken. Service was spectacular!! The have an amazingly different drink menu. You can also order burgers from their sister restaurant a little way down the strip mall. Hubby had the Chicago dog and the San Francisco dog (sounds like a BLT on a dog). They are a terrible place, they don't clean what needs it and ado not prep food well. Many of the cooks dont even wear gloves. I accidentally went into the kitchen looking for the bathroom and I found them making An order without proper equipment. Servers have been rude and when asked to talk to manager he was petty and his replies were smart. Not a good experience at all. The only thing they have going for them is the arcades and the fact people don't care when drunk. read more

Ehhhhh.... I feel like i'm the only one that didn't like this place? First of all, the pinball ate my tokens and it didn't work which sucked, but I moved on. They had a lot of board game selections but they were all crusty. We looked at two different uno games and they were moldy and smelled disgusting. I'm not exaggerating, there was mold. Then I went to get the game of sorry and it also smelled, plus the board was literally broken in half... they really need to go through their board games because it was extremely disappointing. read more

This is a great local game centric bar/restaurant. The place is lined with pinball machines, classic arcade games, and several free modern game systems like PS4. We enjoyed Pac-Man, tekken, TMNT, and many other favorites. Bartender was friendly and eager to accommodate our group of 15 for the birthday we were there to celebrate. We were never without service- he did a great job. The food was pretty good too, reasonable prices and nice variety. My wife and I got the balsamic chicken sandwich with loaded wedges. Very tasty and would order again. The bar is loaded with all kinds of different nostalgic mixers etc. Cereal shots, and nonalcoholic mock-tails and a creative menu will be fun to decide on. This was my first time here with my husband and my sister. After seeing another yelper recommend this place, I knew we had to check it out! This is a place for all ages to come and have fun with video games, arcade style games and board games of all kinds. The drinks are so fun and on theme with candy rims, fun colors and interesting flavor combinations. The waitress we had was so kind and gave some really great suggestions! She also said the the owner of this establishment also owns the Space bar and Bit burger that are also in the same strip. While your tab doesn't cross over to the Space bar, you can order food from the Bit Burger and it will be delivered to your table at the game tavern so that was pretty cool to know! I tried the rainbow road drink which was very light and refreshing while my sister got the espresso martini. She also enjoyed her drink and said it was flavorful with the espresso and liquor without being overpowering. We shared the pretzel bites with queso and mustard. The pretzel bites were very soft and warm--all the things you look for in a pretzel; the queso was very good as a dipping sauce but let me warn you about the mustard--don't dip too much because it's not your usual French's mustard, it's got a kick to it! We also shared the pizza bites which were also very good and the portions were perfect sharing sizes. My husband ordered a double cheeseburger and sweet potato fries from Bit Burger. No surprise they were also delicious! While we were only there for about an hour, we could have stayed longer playing games and making a night of it. Last night we stopped in for a later bite and quick drink. They were just finishing up what seemed to be a VERY fun trivia night (Bob's Burgers themed). Trivia happens every Wednesday at 7pm. Our server was even dressed for the occassion. If I remember correctly, her name was Amber and she was a complete joy. She was so kind and helpful with a little bit so sass. She could have sat right down and joined our table! I loved the game tavern theming and thought they had an great selection of food and drinks. We enjoyed seeing the lego head beer buckets! There were people of all ages. I believe its 21 and up after a certain time, but kids are welcome earlier in the day/evening. I can definitely see coming here and hanging out for a while and playing games, or just catching up with friends. I wish I had gone sooner. Really fun place. Took my 18 year old brother and it has so many games to really help you and your friends hang out and enjoy each other's company. The music's a little loud during the day for games, though. It's got a more bar-type volume. Still! SO much fun to let out your nerdy side and there's tons of games to choose from. A couple were broken, but the amount of board games and Switch games made up for it. The drinks are so fun and I wish you could order more non-alcoholic but still pretty versions for the underage crowd (they have popping boba drinks, but surprisingly they wont make drinks with the cotton candy and rainbows that are non-alcoholic). This is definitely a new type of spot for Knoxville and I applaud them for it. The idea is just so completely different to the type of bars that Knoxville offers that this place is definitely worth to take a look into. If you're into old school pinball, arcades, and along with new games this place offers it all. Even though they don't have a ton of beers on tap, well at least good ones, I would definitely suggest that you check out their craft beer selection as it's pretty extensive. And while you down those down, you can gather around a table and play a round of cards or board games that they have or maybe go for a race of Mario Kart! I think also that this place is great as far as if you're not looking for kids, because most likely kids won't come here to play old school games. Ms. Pacman or Galaga... I remember playing galaga when I was a kid, as they had an arcade of that at a vietnamese pho spot that I went to when I was younger. It definitely gave me a blast to the past. Their food wasn't bad either. We tried to stay ourselves away from the big meals and just got an appetizer, and it was pretty tasty...I mean loaded nachos...how could you go wrong? A throwback kind of bar that has arcade and video games lined up against the walls. Came with family friends AND our kids. Service from our waitress was excellent. She was very attentive and even swapped out a beer when the tap was lacking. Knocked off a star from our experience because we ordered food from Bit Burger and it took over 30 mins to receive our food when the rest of our party only took 10 mins to receive theirs. Albeit their order was only a basket of fries. Next time I'd be more apt to order from Token's actual menu...just faster service. Very kid friendly. Our toddlers had lots of fun playing the games. They do use real fruit and squeeze the juice on site. The food is good and portions are generous, but that was little pricey. The staff seemed friendly and helpful. The walls are lined with old arcade games, pinball machines (my favorite was Stranger Things Pinball), TV's that are hooked up to gaming console, and as many card games and board games as you can dream.
