I live close by and wanted to show my mom this farmer's market and this is one of the few markets that operate on Sundays. The best one I have been to in the Phoenix area is the Uptown Farmer's Market, so if you come to this one, you'll be disappointed. Its still fun to come here and check it out and today when we stopped by there was a music artist playing a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody and that made the trip worthwhile.

This season I especially want to call out Lorenna Gallagher from Seeds and Good Deeds. She sold me the freshest eggs I've ever had. The yolks were deep golden and rich, and the flavor was noticeably better than anything you'll find in a store. Lorenna is part of a Phoenix collective doing urban gardening in the Phoenix and Tempe area and giving back to the community. Hearing about how she carefully raises and feeds her chickens, and recently expanded her flock, made the experience even more impressive -- and you can absolutely taste the difference. Be sure to seek out Seeds and Good Deeds when you visit the market. Supporting vendors like Lorenna is exactly what makes a local farmers market special.

I stopped by closer to noon, so I missed out on the free morning yoga in the park but there was still plenty to be found from fresh vegetable, eggs, baked goods, sweets, soaps, art, jewelry, and more. You can also grab breakfast from a food truck and listen to live music as you walked around - I enjoyed hearing the drums from Beats by Marilyn. The best part was I saw so many dogs!! To say this farmers market is dog-friendly is an understatement. It seemed like many of the vendors are dog lovers themselves. There are tons of water bowls out and you can even pick up treats for your furry little ones from Pet Wants. I ended up bringing home some hummus and pita chips from Doctor Hummus and a jar of raw, unfiltered honey from Phillip's Honey Farms. Because the market is still small I wouldn't drive across town for it but if you are close by or in the neighborhood definitely check it out and support the local community. On my first visit, I tried the free community yoga at 9 am (bring your own mat!). Then I got brunch from a food stand and a food truck. I shopped at the vendors and bought some gourmet dog treats for my pups. My friend bought HUGE locally grown lemons and I was tempted to buy some local eggs, but I have a full dozen in my fridge at home. There was also live music, massages, and an art project! A great place to shop, eat, and hang out on a Saturday morning.

It was held at the Scottsdale Civic Center, which, if you have been to the area, you know there isn't that much shade. On a warm 93°F day, this could be a problem. Wear a hat, slather on some sunblock, and bring some water! The Merchantile Market is a free event, and there are more than 100 local vendors you can support. The full list is on their website, and you can see when their next event is. Last month's theme was Boots & Blossoms. This is a fun event, but I do wish they had more beverage vendors. It would have made the event a little more bearable. It's dog-friendly, family-friendly, and don't forget to bring your appetite and wallet. There are so many great things for you to buy!
