The Ahwatukee Farmer's Market is a great local Sunday stop. It's not huge or fancy, but it has exactly what a neighborhood market should -- local farmers, artisans, fresh bread, coffee, prepared foods, and a great community vibe. This season I especially want to call out Lorenna Gallagher from Seeds and Good Deeds. She sold me the freshest eggs I've ever had. The yolks were deep golden and rich, and the flavor was noticeably better than anything you'll find in a store. Lorenna is part of a Phoenix collective doing urban gardening in the Phoenix and Tempe area and giving back to the community. Hearing about how she carefully raises and feeds her chickens, and recently expanded her flock, made the experience even more impressive -- and you can absolutely taste the difference. Be sure to seek out Seeds and Good Deeds when you visit the market. Supporting vendors like Lorenna is exactly what makes a local farmers market special. read more

I like going to farmer's markets and have scoped out a few in Phoenix and this one is on the smaller side and only worth a visit if you're nearby. I live close by and wanted to show my mom this farmer's market and this is one of the few markets that operate on Sundays. The best one I have been to in the Phoenix area is the Uptown Farmer's Market, so if you come to this one, you'll be disappointed. Its still fun to come here and check it out and today when we stopped by there was a music artist playing a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody and that made the trip worthwhile. read more

I realized that I'm spoiled by Uptown Farmers Market... this is not even 1/5 of the size of Uptown. It's also a bit smaller than the Chandler one... The reason I went there was because I haven't had any time on Saturday, hence a Sunday morning experience. To be fair, there are vendors I don't recognize who are selling their products there, so I made a few unexpected purchases. I had a few good conversations with the business owners and staff as well, because I accidentally showed up an hour early (Google failed me) while they were still setting up. Don't be like me. October to May's hours are 9am to 1pm. Because of that, I missed the live DJ and music, which probably would have made the shopping experience better. Also, the parking lot was small, and there were no designated parking for guests, so my car was trapped for about 15 minutes by a vendor's van who was unloading and setting up. read more

This market has not grown in years. I'm not sure if it's a lack of marketing or what. Disappointing. There are few venders with only a couple that sell veggies. Too bad they don't take ideas from the Gilbert Market which is much larger and more venders providing more products. I feel bad for the vendors there since there aren't a lot of people shopping there. There really is no excuse since the area it's located at is generously populated. It's a missed opportunity for sure. read more

This is a little market but it is nice! Was super low key and not busy when I went, but I went close to their ending time. They had some vendors I often by from there like yobro and they have no filter coffee which is really good! Absolutely a delight to see all the fresh produce and the sweets. There are several vendors that bake fresh daily. One has the most delicious ham and cheese croissants. If you like authentic Polish food there is a sweet woman whose food will remind you of Grandmas home cooking. There is vegan food, gluten free food, smoothies, honey and more. Becoming a "regular" here to the point where I dragged my hungover ass there just before closing and the nice Siam Garden lady said "You're so late today!" Really wish the 'tukee market was Saturday instead of Sunday, because as I'm finding some of my favorites are long gone if you're not there early, and if there's one morning I'm hungover as hell it's Sunday Anyways, my first stop is always the Siam Garden stand at the back of the market. Need my weekly fresh brussels sprout fix. And she always has fresh thai basil, garlic, lettuce, cabbage, broc, green onions . . . Crow's Dairy sells some of the freshest cheese you'll ever taste, though my late ass missed out on the Chevre today :( Dr. Hummus has been there lately, there's a guy with good fresh bread, need to try some of the meat/fish vendors . . . Some decent "artistic" vendors . . . and there's a homemade soap vendor that was raved about, "It's the best soap ever". The bars smelled really good, though, I can't think of homemade soap without thinking of Fight Club . . . Things the market is missing . . . fresh pitas . . . mushrooms, maybe I'm missing them . . . an organic milk producer . . . ooo, maybe a small batch craft beer vendor! . . . or maybe tequila . . . be nice if there were some unbrella'd tables and chairs along the concourse to chill at and eat some of the ready to eat foods . . . The Farmers Market was so cute! We walked through while waiting 25 minutes for Hillside Spot breakfast and we purchased some chocolate chip macaroons. I really want to return to purchase some fresh veggies and local honey. I could smell the breakfast burritos and non-gmo sausage. I waited in line for Chocolates but quickly became side-tracked from the macaroon samples. Best $2 spent this weekend entirely! read more

First time here, weather was great, the smell of food being cooked was delicious as well!! Quite a bit of various farmers here as well as independent food shops! We picked up a great haul from homemade polish perogies to homemade fig jam and a bag full of grown veggies; green beans, honey Mandarin oranges, cucumbers, lemons, Meyer lemons, and a lot of root vegetables that are grown during winter :^) It's kinda small, but the turnout was big for an AZ farmers market. Cute little farmers market, probably the smallest I've ever been to. This was the only market open on Sunday during summer so we wanted to check it out. We stopped by around 9am and it was not crowded at all. There were only about 15 vendors so we got through the whole market in less than an hour. I noticed about half of the vendors can be found in the other AZ markets. We were looking for more unique vendors and there were a couple, but not as much as we'd like. There was only 1 shaded table but we were lucky to have found some space to eat. We ate really good tacos & empanadas on site, and came home with homemade tiramisu and farm-raised sausage & chorizo. We had a good time but we wouldn't go out of our way to come back during summer hours. We live about 20 minutes away so it's kind of a drive for us. Maybe it gets better in the fall when it isn't so hot?? Not sure, but I'm willing to check it out then! read more

Love this farmers market, have gone a few times even though I live in Apache Junction. They do accept EBT and are a part of the Double Up program, which is excellent. Eating higher quality produce while supporting local farmers is great and all income levels can now participate. I find the prices very reasonable and the vendors are all very friendly. They even do Yoga/Pilates classes if you want to participate. read more

I'm trying to buy more locally grown food. The tomatoes looked awesome today. Big melons in abundance, pears, apples, peach cobbler with a big hint of cloves, pita chips, baked breads, large salsa selections, even purple horseradish. Fresh eggs, burritos made on sight, huge zucchinis, local honey and so much more. I haven't been to this market in over a year and it was so nice to see more produce vendors and less craft vendors. I have a question though - Why Sundays. Why not Saturdays? Suggestion to the Market - Would love to see an eating area... table and chairs. I like to buy and then eat. I like this market. I have been to the bigger farmers market and I like this one best of all. It is close to where we live so I am not driving far to get here. The market is small, but adequate for the crowds. The entertainment is the best. Each time we have visited here, there is a guy playing guitar. He is by himself and does an amazing job. He plays all the 80's songs I remember! He only plays guitar and does not mess them up by singing. I do singing part to mess up the song for the enjoyment of Brad. The prices are good. The produce is fresh. There are a few vendors who need some people skill lessons, but in all this is a great market. There is also a knife sharpening vendor who I am going to take my knives to be sharpened. He does it right there in front of you. The Empanada guy is good too. He offers samples knowing we will buy the product. At $4 a piece it is not a bad deal. They are quite tasty as well. The lady that was there selling bread has great product as well. I really liked her prices too! The bread is delicious. This will be something we go to every Sunday to pick up fresh fruits and veggies. read more

Meh... this farmer's market is a-ok. I've not been to many in the Phoenix area and this one was better than the last I'd been to but, I think I may be too spoiled by Missouri and California farmer's markets. In Missouri, farmer's markets are actually much less expensive than the stores are. In California, they offer tons of selections. Here, I didn't see either of those bonuses so other than just wanting to support local vendors, there's kinda no point to go. I'll give it another chance before I make a final decision but so far, I'm not so impressed. Might see ya there. read more

We have been here in Phoenix for almost five months now and have been trying to find time to go to a Farmers' Market. This one was conveniently open on a Sunday, which was the only day off we had together for the weekend, so we gave it a shot. It was definitely on the smaller side of farmers' markets, but they had some really interesting booths and there was plenty of fruits and veggies to choose from if you prefer the local scene for your food. Great selection of fresh produce, flowers, plants, etc. Always get the beef tamales from The Tamale store..best in the Valley.. Lil' Sassy's Salsa has a great Green Chile Sauce.. Pork On a Fork pulled pork is sublime. Frawg n'Turtle has interesting sauces.. Hot n'Horsey Apple Mustard, would be killer on a ham sandwich. read more

Farmers markets here in AZ seem to be more of a craft fair. Very limited in the produce department. But what they do have is good and those working their booths are polite and helpful. Like the tamales. Tasty variety. Parking was the pits, but it seems they've modified that situation a bit. read more

I went for the first time today and I really liked the Ahwatukee Farmer's Market. There were more vendors than I had anticipated and many were selling fresh produce from their farms. Most accept credit cards but some only accept cash so be prepared and bring cash if you can. I purchased quite a bit including wild caught salmon, freshly made guacamole, mint, tea, macaroons, eggs, juice, vegan tamales, goat milk body butter and dark chocolate. I plan on going back for sure, I just won't purchase from one of the vendors who was extremely condescending and arrogant. The rest of the vendors were friendly and helpful though. read more

I've been trying to shop locally more often to support people in the community and was pleasantly surprised at the choices at this small farmers' market. It's not as big as some others in the valley, but there was a nice variety of fresh produce, baked goods, and fresh roasted coffee. I came home with a bag of mesquite flour (it's gluten free!) and can't wait to try baking with it. Hopefully there will be more vendors next time...the rain was coming down pretty hard today so I don't think there were as many booths set up as usual. read more

This market has plenty of variety to keep a market hound happy. It is a little bit smaller than the Downtown Phoenix Public Market. I went because I missed my market on Saturday, and this one is open on Sunday. I got a lovely loaf of French peasant bread, some homemade pomegranate jelly, and a bunch of produce. The only downer was that it seemed standard practice for the produce vendors to bag their produce and charge accordingly. I prefer to get as many of an item as I would like. There are some grocery store chains that do the same thing, and it always bothers me. There must be some kind of money reason for them to do it. Otherwise, I was very happy to make the trip for this market. A note for future trips: it is off the same I-10 exit as Ikea. :) read more

My first visit to the Ahwatukee farmers market was quite nice. It really can't compare with other farmers market I visited in the past as the other ones are massive. But it had a several booths to browse, with interesting, quality products. There was produce, which in reality I didn't checked out. Cooking in my house has stopped until further notice as I don't have time! I got delicious tamales, tasty hummus, and a yummy crepe. I also tasted salsas, whipped flavored honeys, apple cider etc. Everything tasted very good, not artificial. There even was home made dog treats! Since it's a small farmers market, I don't think you could make a whole morning of it but it's still worth checking out. read more

Love: Dr Hummus--best pita and tzatziki we have had since Greece this past summer. They sell his stuff at AJ's, but much fresher at the market! Crow Dairy: mmm regular and bacon chevre. awesome on spinach salads! Love the pics of all of their farm animals! Pork on a fork: pulled pork. Need I say more?! Amazing. I enjoy this Farmer's Market for a few businesses whose products I enjoy: - Horny Toad: this lady is a real farmer; no frills, just great pesticide-free, local veggies and fruits and she's actually NICE and great to talk to; I love her selection of heirloom tomatoes and her kids are a welcome sight (they actually are well-behaved and seem to be very helpful in her farm productivity) - Crows Dairy: they are from Buckeye and have great tasting goat cheese from their Nubian goats. - Circle Key Farms: they have excellent goat (and beef, etc) selection and the guys that run it are great to talk to and learn more about goats.. which I LOOOVE! - FIshhugger: I like talking to these folks as they are very educational and I have become a convert of their honey selection. I also get my fish from there. - Alaskan Pride Seafood: I like these guys because they do the fishing for the fish you buy (all Alaskan Wild caught) and their selection is always great. I get my fish here also. - Red Mountain Cattle Co: I like to get Ground Beef from these folks, thought haven't because we are eating more lamb and goat these days. I've bought from a ton of other vendors there (salsa, pita chips, hummus, oils, facial cremes, eggs, melons, etc), but these are the ones I go out of my way to buy from. read more

Let me start by saying that I LOVE farmers markets. In my opinion it is the way to start a great weekend day. That being said...I was really disappointed by the Ahwatukee market. Maybe it was my high hopes going in, but I felt the variety was less than awesome, and the number of booths set up was much less than i was expecting. The reason I go to Farmers Markets is to support the local farmers, and for the opportunity to buy produce that is more fresh than most grocery stores carry. I was really turned off by the Jamba Juice stand and the booth from the bread store...these are both chain "restaurants" and in my opinion have no place at a local farmers market. If I feel like a smoothie, I'll go home with my fresh fruit and make one! I also felt the prices were a bit high, but can imagine the costs go up here just like anywhere else feeling the pinch right now so won't include that in the rating. Overall...I'll go back but certainly don't make it a weekend ritual like I did with markets back east. Bummer ;( read more

I love this market! The only complaint I have is that it doesn't open early enough. It's super hot and sunny in the summer and early fall which makes coming to the market during those times unbearable. I wish it opened at 7 am every Sunday and I would be more likely to go to it more often. Right now, it opens at 9 am during the Fall/Winter hours. Other than the opening time, I think this market is fantastic. It is big enough to where there is a lot of produce and products to choose from, making it worthwhile to go there, but small enough to where it doesn't take a long time to walk through. It does tend to get busy, though, so I like to go when it is first opening to get the first choice in produce and beat the crowd. Definitely give this market a try! read more

This was my first experience at a local farmers market and I was disappointed to find out very little of it was from AZ. Isn't that the purpose of a farmer's market? If you aren't a farmer why are you there selling goods from Asia and South America? There were 2 booth that specifically advertised locally grown. I bought some decent items from them. One of them was selling a bunch of eggs but the cartons were from Hickman's (enormous commercial egg producer) which isn't what I envision at a small market. Maybe they just bought the cartons from them, who knows. There was a person selling salsa (locally made) but it was more expensive than Whole Foods where it is also sold. I have only been once and plan on trying other markets before going back. read more

Visited here last Sunday after a trip to Ikea. We saw the signs and decided to check it out. It was OK.. just OK.. Pretty small and half of the vendors were selling crafts and jewelry. Not what I expect at a farmer's market.. more like a swap meet. We did buy some yummy pickled jalapenos and some apricot butter. YUM! read more

The Ahwatukee Farmers Market, while smaller than other markets, is a great addition to the 'Tuk! Selection depends on the day so I suggested coming multiple times. Vendors pick and choose which days they want to set up shop so the line up is consistently changing. This market is a mix of goods and food, both produce and ready to eat/take home items. While I respect that people are passionate about their items, some booths can get a little pushy when it comes to sales. I'm looking at you, Candle Guy. I also like that this market listens to its shoppers as well as hustles to promote the vendors. Their FB page is also a good source for information on what vendors they have and the types of items they are selling. EBT and Debit/Credit cards are accepted as well. read more

Made my way over to the Awhatukee Farmer's Market for the first time last weekend and was quite pleased with it. I love that it's on Sundays because I'm usually busy with other things on Saturdays. It's not huge but it had plenty of yummy foods to tempt me. Like the lavender pepper. When would I ever use this? No idea. But in that moment I thought it seemed amazing. My only complaint was that I got there late (noonish) so they really wasn't much left in the way of produce. Partly because there were only maybe 2 stands selling produce in the first place. Maybe because it's winter? Or I guess I just need to get up earlier. But there were lots of grass-fed meat stands which was cool. I'm definitely going to go back and try some out. I walked away with a loaf of bread and a jar of strawberry honey that is really, really good. Expect to spend money. This place ain't cheap. But at least you know you're getting quality food. read more
