I went in around 4pm Sunday and not a long line. They took my order fast and got started on my drink. I'm only giving 4 stars because it took a while for the drink. I guess I got the last of the tapioca because someone ordering after me or wasn't able to get it and had to wait 28 minutes for new tapioca to be made. I wasn't told that I would have to wait for new tapioca so I thought my drink would be done fast since I got a brown sugar Boba, but we waited quite a bit. So only 4 stars because of that. Spades Tealife is the first thing you'll see in Park to Shop grocery store's little food hall area. Bubble tea is all the rage, and you're certainly paying for it. Fortunately Spades does a pretty good job at mixing a good boba tea. The variety of drinks is decent without being overwhelming, but I have to say that I prefer the fruit drinks at other places since they mix in real fruit. Spades is mostly dealing in mixes and tea, and you need to be a tea connoisseur to truly enjoy it. Even then, it's a bit pricey for tea. I was greatly looking forward to having a Taiwanese bubble tea shop here in the Naperville/Aurora area, but sadly, the shop isn't that impressive. Service is really slow, and it can sometimes take at least 15 minutes to get your drink prepared. The drinks are also pretty expensive compared to other similar stores, and to be honest, I could spend the same amount of money for a much higher quality drink at Starbucks Reserve or bubble tea shops in downtown Chicago/the northern suburbs (some of which offer homemade boba!). I downloaded Yelp solely for the purpose of writing a review for Spades. The server was snippy, short-tempered and rude. There was no one else in line, yet he was rushing us through our order and would cut us off while speaking. The staffs were friendly, they even had time to explain the grades of Tea that boba shops often used for their drinks, and i learned something here! So usual boba shops often uses lowest grades of tea to make more profits, to be honest, you wouldnt know unless you love drinking tea regularly. Because the sugar and milk and boba often kills the true tea flavor. This shop uses higher grade tea leaves for their boba drinks, so if you are a true boba enthusiast, ask for no added sugar, so u can taste the define aroma from different types of tea drinks. I ordered the brown sugar milk tea, and asked for no sugar (syrup). Drinking from top to bottom, strong red tea aroma clashes with the thickness of whole milk, making it silky smooth yet strickingly flavorful to the mouth. Then as i drink deeper, the density of sugar works gravitationally, creates a more fulfilling representation of Milk Boba, ahhh! At the bottom, the boba is freshly made, still chewy but not too soft nor hardened, gives a final contrast to the drink, so satisfying to my craving! I finished the drink in 5 min lol. Posting this breaks my heart because I had previously given them four stars. The drinks really are delicious but the service needs a lot of work. I ordered two medium drinks and as I was paying, I mentioned that I have a loyalty punch card. He said that he could not punch the car because it is only for large size drinks. I explained that if I knew that, I would have ordered large. When I asked if he could avoid the transaction and just have me pay for two large drinks, he said that it already went through and there was nothing he could do. From the service standpoint, you would think he would try to accommodate me but he did not care...at all! I ran into the store to pick something up while he was making my drinks and when I stopped by to pick them up, they were sitting on the counter and he was on his phone. Please, don't go here. Extremely rude worker. 3 different customers went up to the self order kiosk screen at different times and each of them got yelled at by the worker saying, "We're not open yet. Can't you see the sign!" as he points to an unlit neon sign all the way to the top right where clearly no one can notice. And proceeded to say, "Why does nobody in America know how to read?" Store is located in the food court and its the first shop, easy to find. We went when the whole food court was practically empty so our service was pretty fast. The person taking our order was very stern and was rushing us to get the order in for some reason. If you're trying to order on Yelp and save time by just running in to grab your stuff, don't go here. Also it's in the food court of the grocery store so it was hard to find. I ordered on Yelp and when I ran in to get the 4 drinks, they weren't ready and the guy acted like I was an idiot. Most boba places I've ordered from have the option to do a percentage of sweetness etc or none at all as an option...not this place. Apparently there is sugar in ALL of it and made into the tea already. I waited 20 more minutes for my order and they weren't even that good.
